I have a stock Xterra, gone over way more challenging terrain than this, and with zero damage to my truck, the problem with this Xterra sits between the steering wheel and the driver's seat. These little trucks are super capable, you just have to know how to drive them, crawl it, don't hammer the throttle every time you get hung up.
I think those obstacles are bigger than they look on camera to be honest. Manuels are a pain for rock crawling, the gearing isn’t low enough and you’re constantly riding the clutch.
All the people saying why. It's right in the title. To see what a stock Xterra can do on a hard rated trail. Salute to the Xterra...the most under-rated suv 4x4. I imagine after this his plans are. 2" lift or more. Steel front bumper. Etc,etc. And if that's the Off road addition...like the Pro 4x. It has under armor aka skid plates.
Glad I just found this -- great video! I have a 2015 Xterra (the third one I've owned) w/186k miles and it has been the absolutely most reliable and dependable and maintenance-free vehicle I've owned, and that includes 3 XJ Cherokees, 1 Mitsu Montero, one [original] Rover Discovery, and two FJ-40 Land Cruisers -- all bought new and all drivernover 100k miles -- in LatAm, Australia, Africa and the US. And all used hard off-road and all showed the trail damage -- but sheet metal doesn't affect mechanical performance and all were carefully maintained and not mechanically-abused. To Alan, don't worry about the sheet metal: have fun, but don't deliberately abuse the mechanicals and from my third watching of the video, you didn't. As for spotters, they're nice to have but the guy behind the wheel is the key -- including spotting which line to take, which to abandon, and what to switch to. Great video -- love to see more of them!
I have a 2005 Manual Trans Off Road Package too. Modulating the throttle and rock crawling is super hard since we don't have a very slow low range like a Rubicon 4:1 ratio Our enemy is ground clearance, but having the rear locker is very very helpful. Thanks a ton for the video. It's good to know what limits my truck has since I'm stock at the moment too. Cheers!
@@gkoverland having the rear locking differential on demand makes slow speed control so much better and technical rocks. The xteras could definitely use more ground clearance, but they do fit a 285/75r16 tire with out having to lift the truck. That adds a bunch of clearance under the whole vehicle and the axles, and a budget lift is like $200 to $700 depending if you go for just spacers and shackle lift, or a cheap set of coilovers and shocks all around. Next time you need tires or if your suspension shocks are starting to go, upgrade.. that's my plan
That's just stupid. That truck looked like it was in good shape before that run. When you get hung up, whatever you do don't back up and pick another line, heck naw, lets just mat the gas it'll tear it's way through, rockers be damned... 0 effs given is what caused all of that damage.
I just picked up a stock 2014 Pro-4X and one of the first videos I saw with regards to off-road prep for this vehicle was to remove the "mud-flaps" (especially in the rear) and nerf bars (if so equipped). Now I know why. 🙂
oops still had the mud flaps i see, at least the stock side steps were removed lolz Xterra gang in da hooooowse, oof just finished the video, poor xterra
Tell us you've never wheeled before without telling us you've never wheeled before... good lord this hurt to watch. A lot of that could have been tackled if you would take the right lines and not try and throttle out at every obstacle. You could have done this trail with almost no damage. TBH, you're lucky you didn't snap a CV Axle trying to throttle out. Those R180 front diff's are weak
The obstacles are so much bigger than they look, there’s no avoiding underbody damage on this terrain. The xterra stock is just not high enough for some of the rock ledges. I’ve wheeled a pro4x and the clearance just isn’t enough and the skid plates are useless
I've owned 7 nice jeeps and they all sucked in the reliability department, Thanks Chrysler shitty electronics, all jeeps have them. The Xterra is 10 times more reliable and alot nicer driving and with mods just as capable as the jeeps !
@@beardumaw24 You got that right. in the last 22 years, I have owned 3 jeeps, 3 explorers, and one Xterra. The jeeps all had weird electric problems. My old 2005 Xterra has over 175,000 miles and still runs like a new one. When it needs repairs, parts are reasonably priced. It is not hard to fix, and a local shop can fix it without a dealer only programmer like a Jeep needs. It has cold AC and it still gets just over 20MPG on the highway. I don't do any rock crawling but I do a lot of dirt roads, gravel roads, bumpy back roads, and exploring where the urge takes me. I am an old retired guy and many mornings my wife and I jump in the Xterra and see where the road takes us. It is as comfortable on the interstate as it is on a gravel road back in the hollers. Nissan needs to bring back the Xterra!
It's still stock from the factory with those options. No aftermarket. Not stock would be lift, locking front, swear disconnect, bumpers, oversized wheels/tires.
I imagine they hold up just as well as the M226 axles. You often see more complaints with the M226 axle compared to the C200K. Both are pretty good axles, they do leak from the seals because the vent gets clogged very common on both.
This is a Jeep trail. This poor X was being trashed. At least get a lift and run 33" tires. Maybe a steel front and rear bumper and rock sliders too! I'd never take my X here and abuse it like that.

I would agree with this 100%
I love mine and for being 20 years old wouldn't trade it for the world
great little beast

Are you forgetting the ridiculous advice from the douchebags screaming go go go, Jesus, it's like they hate Nissans?!
Seems like his spotters were little help too.
That was hard to watch but curiously satisfying.
Same here. Those spotters were something else😂
Them wild peaks ain’t stock but that is a very capable truck

I have a man trans ‘06 off road and this is helpful to see how it performs in more extreme conditions than I have in my area. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!

Beast mode
Off-roading skills at the finest... Poor Xterra :((

Lol! The driver was gutsy!
Ive got a 2011 Xterra pro-4x and this is encouraging but also not something I'd do to my rig!
He also has rear lock, not sure if yours came with it.

Everyone's an expert on UA-cam. You gotta start somewhere my guy.
@@JohnDoe-ej3wp Certainly no expert but that's not the smart way to learn how to wheel. You have to be properly prepared for wheeling.
ALAN GOING CRAZY
NICE VIDEO
He made it all the way through :)...lol! Thanks for watching
Alan is a gangsta
Damn that was rough 😬
Yeeouch, but faired pretty well on the torture test.
You have guts running this trail with no armor! Easy on the skinny pedal. Let the ABLS kick in and that should help you some. Good stuff though!
Yup, props to him for trying it!
We say "more money than brains"
😫 the “guides” are killing this Xterra. They should have given better guidance
To get over those bigger rocks, 45MPH of momentum might help do it like the General Lee. Try it.

This is why I have a Jeep for rock crawling. The X is for the beach and overlanding. The X is super capable, but abuse is abuse…

Oh my! It’s not a rock crawler dude!
Just cause you can do it doesn't mean you should.
So that is not a stock Xterra, that is the offroad version with locking rear diffs.
It's still stock from the factory with those options. No aftermarket.
Not stock would be lift, locking front, swear disconnect, bumpers, oversized wheels/tires.
Rock sliders would have made it easier
True!
Awesome. What size tires? Also was that a 6sp or auto?
He was on 31s and 6sp
how well does the c200k rear end hold up offroad or in muddy terrain?
I imagine they hold up just as well as the M226 axles. You often see more complaints with the M226 axle compared to the C200K. Both are pretty good axles, they do leak from the seals because the vent gets clogged very common on both.

Yes, had to be winched at one part
Oooh that’s painful 😮

Gnarly!! My goodness
First mod...take the mud flaps off!
I took my mud flaps off before I drove our of the dealer. All they (and the side steps) do is hang up on rocks and tree roots and the like.
What psi you running?
He got it down to 15 i think
Noiceeeeee!!!
WOW such bad spotters
many things CAN be done, many things also SHOULDNT be done.
Bro totaled his xterra for this trail
Nahhhh -- a few battle scars are like combat ribbons. Sheet metal doesn't count -- just the mechanicals.
Hard to watch, I also have a silver Xterra so it wasn’t easy to watch.
Xes are capable but not designed for hard core rock crawling god.
Le falto chofer
He got it for free or what? 🤦♂️
It was too late for him to turn back once got on trail :)
I would think the same with the way he was treating that truck!
poor driving, it could have made it up without damage very smoothly
You guys are horrible spotters, i would be pissed if I was the xterra drivers.
trash spotters
Awesome video guys ❤️❤️👍
