I seen this at 6 years old living in a hood filled with gang violence and horrible stuff everyday. When I seen this movie I knew I wanted to be married, have a family and to protect them. This scene has been burned into my memory for 33 years!

Thank God for this song #katebush I remember when this was happening to me and April of 1992. I had to play this song for my ex when we were having our baby. This was the first time for me but not his first time😢 he was upset and felt helpless that he was not helpful to help me😢. Even though we did not make it as a couple together we became a blended family. Our son is a registered nurse now and we are very proud of him. And I was able to meet the love of my life who I was married to for 17 years but we were married for 17 years. My husband who I met in the year loved my son like he was his own . I lost my hubby to a brain stroke in 2022. We were together for 22 years and Married for 17 years because everyone knew their status and respected each other. My ex went on with his life and so did I and I met my future husband in 2000. But it was a lot to go through in April of 1992 because I had never been pregnant before. Thank God that God stepped in because I need to go at that time because not only was my life at risk but our son was at risk . But thank God we came a blended family and realize that at the end of the day it was about the kids. Thank you #katebush. When me and my ex were going to a high-risk pregnancy and it could mean death for me and my child I played this song for my eldest son's father to let him know and to show him that we are going to make it and we prayed on it. And now that we're not together anymore it doesn't matter because at the end of the day we put our children first😊 thank you #katebush. This afternoon I watched this movie and this scene for the first time in 30+ years. No one could have captured the emotion and pain of this scene better than Kate Bush did with this song. I still cannot understand how this beautiful ballad was passed over for a Best Song nomination from The Academy (the Oscars).
This song is so beautiful we lost our daughter shortly after birth and coming into this world for a few precious moments we had with her and the Lord took her home 🕊️❤️
My Son was born about 2 months after this movie came out.... His mother passed away 6 years ago. I'm an Old Man now & I cry every time I hear that song... Miracle Baby... Tragic times.....
He’s got to be near got to be those teenage years, based on math of your post. People do see things years later, and I still want only best wishes. The teen years can be rough!
There are many fine moments to appreciate, in all of John Hughes' films. I love the little touch @ 5:47 when Jake's tear slides off his face, and then we see a slow-motion drop of blood impact the O.R. floor. Gives me chills!
There is so much good about this scene 1:32 the sound design having that nurse running from the room yelling 1:37 that 20 sec tracking shot 2:17 the doctor kicking that chair letting the audience know we’re in a full blown emergency 3:14 Jake is utterly alone 3:19 the Kate Bush drop 4:15 his father in law who didn’t like him nodding for him to be strong The fact that this movie is semi autobiographical for how John Hughes was really feeling during the conception/birth of his 1st child adds so many layers. Love this movie.
Kate Bush wrote the music for this scene, when it already was filmed. A great song fitting to the movie. Even more remarkable: there’s also an impressing official music video that she directed herself.
Something else that was one All great moments in the scene. One of the most impactful parts of this scene was at 3:11 when you hear a very audible gulp from Jake as he’s breaking down.
I agree about 4:15. Those two had a hostile relationship but they put their differences aside, FAR ASIDE, for Christie's sake. Best part of the entire movie.
As long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a Mom. The words and emotions this song and the singer expressed was all of those feelings balled up. Being blessed with 4 sons, my oldest was born with a problem no one believed me existed. I fought hard for my boy, years of not one single person in my family, his father, doctors, in and out of hospitals would help us or even run a test. Our story ended 12/27/20 as my son lost his long battle to CKD and passed away in his sleep after dialysis from a massive heart attack and failed transplant. His body tried and tried to work for him. And, I watched this movie when I was about 12-13 and it’s transcended into something special but painful after all of these years. Of all the things I’ve learned, I’ve always wanted to be his Mom. RIP Austin Dale. I hope they have guitars where you are and that your singing. Xoxo
So beautiful, why is it so hard to find love like this?....it seems like a fantasy or a distant dream but I will continue to believe I'll have love like this some day ❤
Love my wife of 30 years... yes there are regrets of past mistakes and the pain I put her through. If I could change it all I would, but would it change my Love for her and my appreciation for her now, only God knows! So I will keep on loving her the best I know how and live for the future and let go of past hurts...
I'm shocked that more of the younger "Stranger Things" generation has not discovered this song by Kate Bush by now. This is my favorite song by her and I loved it the first time I heard it in "She's Having a Baby"...I was 9 years old.
Glad to know that. I just told my husband I had seen this movie and that after a traumatic birth of my oldest and feeling weak and hopeless from premature to apnea and heart defect and a bleed on his brain and then to find out my legs didn’t want to work I was ready for defeat till a L&D nurse played this and said nope momma you got this. Epidural caused mayhem after me having meningitis as a child. Dr wouldn’t even consider for my other three from complications. She saved my sanity and was an angel is disguise. So thanks for your time and patience with all the momma’s.
I love this movie. The song by Kate Bush was perfect and the remix of the song by Maxwell is amazing also. My husband brought tears to my eyes today when he told me every time he sees the movie and hears the sound track he tears up thinking about 2016 when I was rushed to SunnyBrook for for Glioblastoma brain surgery and this song and movie was running through his mind. Makes him tear up every time. I had no idea until today 😢
Can anyone NOT cry when they watch this? This really hits right to the core and is so beautiful… That music makes me cry every time. I finally added this great 80’s film to my collection. It’s a treasure. Excellent acting by Kevin Bacon, Elizabeth McGovern and the whole cast! God bless all the real life doctors who perform these miracle life-saving surgeries and to all the women who’ve given birth, especially those who had C-Sections, my heart goes out to you… and to all the fathers, cherish the gift you’ve been given. 🌹
I've never been able to forget this movie or song for 35 years. I thought of it both times my children were born... then everytime I've needed major surgery over the past 30yrs to fix damage a 3 time drunk driver did to me. This sounds is beautiful and heart-felt. Kate Bush had no idea then how much she'd impact hundreds of thousands of lives that heard her sing this song in a movie theater. I wish MTV still played songs. In the late 1980's & 1990's I would turn up the TV every time her video played.
One my all time favorite scenes from a movie . Went to see it when my wife was 7 months pregnant and I was a huge Kate Bush fan . Had me in tears . Such a perfect combination of scene and soundtrack
It's amazing that this Song never won a Oscar. So many songs were overlooked by The Academy Mama by Boyz to Men from Soul Food, It Must Have Been Love by Roxette from Pretty Woman, Change The World by Eric Clapton & Babyface from Michael.
I only saw this movie about 5 years ago. I was only maybe 5 -6 when it came out. I'm a big 80s fan I remember a lot of the music. Never heard of this film. It's a great love story.
If you haven’t seen this movie, it’s worth a watch. Seeing the film makes this scene so much more emotional. The whole movie Jake is trying to figure out adult life. Find himself, write a book, question his marriage, measure up…. In this scene he finally realized what really matters. This is Kevin’s What’s Eating Gilbert Grape or Jerry Maguire. My sister and I loved Tremors so we watched every Bacon movie and loved this one. At 9 and 12 we LOVED this movie and rented it from the video store often. Weird for young kids but hey, lol. It’s got some great lines as every Hughes movies does.
I'm a 37 year old man who is 6'1'' and coming in at 245 lbs biker and everytime I see this scene I brake down like a baby. The song makes the scene. The direction was perfection. tear drop turns to blood love it!
I have never seen this film, but I love this Kate Bush song. Even though I know its a happy ending, watching this short clip still made me have a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat. Love Kate Bush.

John Hughes asked Kate to write a song for this movie and told her the scene so the song fits to a T. i dont think any other song has done that for a movie.
Kate Bush really do know how to make someone emotional with her powerful voice and the messages she gives to the world, her voice is like an angels, let me correct. She is a angel from above.
John Hughes is/was a one of a kind brilliant, thoughtful, beautiful, humorous, full of compassion and insightfulness human being...I didn't know him personally, but greatly miss John and his Contributions very very much... but he left us so much already...so is Kate Bush, brilliant artist/singer.
I had a ruptured splenic artery aneurysm while I was 36 weeks pregnant. The entire situation was horrible. After a full code blue, ER thoracotomy, splenectomy and distal pancreatectomy and over 34 units of blood my son and I were the 14th known mother and baby to have survived. I could tell you about my near death experience or the nightmares that wake me 14 years later but I would rather tell you that a day doesn't go by that my husband and don't think of the amazing resident naval surgeon who saved my life and our sons. I've had a long recovery but I always say my husbands road was harder. I was eventually unconscious while he had to witness everything and the aftermath of my long ICU and hospital stay and our sons NICU stay.
God bless you. This is tremendous! How did you get through it? All of what you have listed are major surgeries! You are an Angel. I've worked with many residents and many do think hard on their feet.
Kevin Bacon is a Hollywood Legend! When I was younger, I didn't cry over this part. But when you get older, you get more emotional. If I do watch this movie again. I already know, I will. Because I love him! I'll have the tissues ready.
Thank you for the entire scene. Bacon rocks this moment - and the entire film along with McGovern. Breaks my heart, lets me know my tear ducts still work and then relieves me. Kate Bush is a genius!!
Crazy I remember watching this movie when I was a little girl and hearing that song for the first time and loved it instantly till this day if it's on cable I always click to watch it. Thanks for the upload!!!!
Loved this movie so much ❤ Of course , Kate Bush's song was so fitting for this .... she wrote it in about 5 to 10 mins after being sent a clip of this particular scene
Aug 2024 - watched this movie again. I absolutely love this movie.....one of their bests. Wish it would have got more credit at the time.....because its a timeless movie.
One of the most underrated, lesser remembered films John Hughes ever made. I LOVE this movie, my mom loved it & I can remember watching it with her when I was growing up. Obviously now that I’m an adult and a parent - I love it in a whole new way & understand everything… It has different meaning
this segment and This Woman's Work are inextricably linked. I don't know if there's ever been a song on a soundtrack that better represented the moment or mood of the scenes it was featured in.
This song, this movie... I was a kid when it came out and and I didn't know very much at that time and and this song this song still resonates in my soul... It's probably one of the most epic, most profound songs ever written
How ironic! This nurse was in M A S H. I just found out she passed away on February 16, 2020. But the reason I came to this video (from one of the best movies EVER!), was Kate Bush singing "This Woman's Work" from The Handmaid's Tale 2nd season episode 1. Elton John describes Kate Bush as the equivalent to Freddie Mercury. I totally agree! I hear it and get everlasting Goosebumps. ❤️✌️
You have to appreciate the depth of sincerity, aptly creating a overview of how life really brings you face to face with your soul- takes you to the exam room of the real, inevitable need to acknowledge the pain and layers of the soul that inform so much of our being as humans. This is very much art at its core . So poignantly illustrated. Why do we not have art pieces like this anywhere near the vicinity of music culture, you ask? It’s because a genuine character & realness , and the invaluable artful technique of unhindered , purely human expression that does not offer itself up for critique, nor does it have this in mind as a goal for those who would look into this with there hearts, as opposed to trying to extract the abstract in a “ choose your own meaning” pitch. This is a human story.
This was the first movie we saw together. Deborah H. I cant tell you how sorry i am for all the pain and hurt i caused. I miss you but i know you hate me. I remember you wanted the sound track to this movie. I was such a jerk. I wished I would have got you the soundtrack. You still mean so much to me but I know will never be. I just want you to know I love you from the bottom of my heart. We've been divorced for 12 years and there will never be another person like you you are amazing and wonderful and I wish I could go back and change things I love you a thousand times and I always will
my hubby and I were divorced for many years, but remarried 11 yrs ago. we were very young when first married, but still had that spark neither of us could forget. Todd go tell this woman how you wronged her and how you feel now. 12 years! Both of you are likely more grown up and different people now. Get to know one another again;)

There is so much good about this scene
1:32 the sound design having that nurse running from the room yelling
1:37 that 20 sec tracking shot
2:17 the doctor kicking that chair letting the audience know we’re in a full blown emergency
3:14 Jake is utterly alone
3:19 the Kate Bush drop
4:15 his father in law who didn’t like him nodding for him to be strong
The fact that this movie is semi autobiographical for how John Hughes was really feeling during the conception/birth of his 1st child adds so many layers. Love this movie.
John Hughes was an American treasure.
1988 , where did the years go I was 18 When this song was out ....48 now , seems like yesterday ....those were the days aye
john hughes was a genius he got it exactly right with this film so real to life
As long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a Mom. Xoxo
😢
So sorry to hear. Wishing you strength, peace, and joyful memories.
So sorry made me cry reading this rip
is it just me or did John Hughes' movies have some of the BEST and most meaningful music?
They sure did!
Always
I pray this song goes viral and tops the charts too!!!!!!🤞💕💕💕💕
One of the greatest lyrics ever written and deservedly spoken in the same esteem as Lennon and Macartney. She is incomparable.
The scene is amazing and gave us two amazing songs: This Woman's Work and Crazy Love!
Truly one of the most beautiful endings ever
This song/scene has made me BAWL for 14 years. EVERY TIME like it was the first.
I love how much he loves her. So sweet. :)
So beautiful, why is it so hard to find love like this?....it seems like a fantasy or a distant dream but I will continue to believe I'll have love like this some day ❤
Loved this film. Haven't seen it in so long. wow.
Bawling at my desk. lol
Who’s else is coming back in 2019? First time I heard this song was watching this movie. I knew then it would be unforgettable 💖 I was correct.
This movie was mine and my wife's favourite movie. We named our son Christopher because of it. I miss her every day
I work in a Labor And Delivery area, and this scene rings so true to me. So beautifully acted. The song brings tears to me every time I hear it.
I am glad you are still with him.
🌹
Here's to John Hughes and his movies of the '80s!
This song hit me with it's beauty from day 1, about 18 years ago, when I saw the movie.
It's amazing that this Song never won a Oscar. So many songs were overlooked by The Academy Mama by Boyz to Men from Soul Food, It Must Have Been Love by Roxette from Pretty Woman, Change The World by Eric Clapton & Babyface from Michael.
Or a Grammy. I agree with you on all that you said.
Thank you so much. I forgot John Hughes did this Movie as well as Home Alone and Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

The movie was a light-hearted comedy and drama-free; until this scene. Which made it all the more dramatic and scary.
That’s how life is
Kate Bush is just the best there is.
John Hughes asked Kate to write a song for this movie and told her the scene so the song fits to a T. i dont think any other song has done that for a movie.
Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls for City of Angels is up there too.
Just watched this and there are tears in my eyes. Thanks for posting this.
Crazy I remember watching this movie when I was a little girl and hearing that song for the first time and loved it instantly till this day if it's on cable I always click to watch it. Thanks for the upload!!!!
Me too! Still makes me cry - and three children later, even more so.
Loved this movie so much ❤ Of course , Kate Bush's song was so fitting for this .... she wrote it in about 5 to 10 mins after being sent a clip of this particular scene
the most beautiful song ever
Aug 2024 - watched this movie again. I absolutely love this movie.....one of their bests. Wish it would have got more credit at the time.....because its a timeless movie.
Even out of context this scene makes me wanna cry
Two of my favourite singers back to back, the great Kate Bush and Bryan Ferry
So beautiful. Kate Bush is amazing.
This was the song that introduced me to the uniqueness and majesty that is Kate Bush.
This scene, song, etc kills me every time. Bush and Hughes were pure masters with this scene. I always cry.
One of the most underrated, lesser remembered films John Hughes ever made.
I LOVE this movie, my mom loved it & I can remember watching it with her when I was growing up.
Obviously now that I’m an adult and a parent - I love it in a whole new way & understand everything…
It has different meaning
Great movie. Fantastic actors. Beautiful song
Love that it was Nurse Kellye from MASH that gave him the scrubs to put on. One of my favourite nurses in MASH. THANKS Kellye. X
Perfect song, amazing art. One of the best 80s movie scenes EVER.
Such a beautiful song! One would never suspect what a hilarious movie this solemn video comes from.
This was the first time I heard This woman's work by Kate Bush..it was so emotional and added so much to this part of the movie.
this segment and This Woman's Work are inextricably linked.
That was a beautiful movie, along with the soul wrenching music!💕
Such a beautiful song
This part is the best part of the film. It was wonderfuly done.
How ironic! This nurse was in
M A S H. ❤️✌️
"I should be crying but i just can't let it show" ugh god that part hits. 😍
i love this movie. when i was pregnant i thought about this scene every day and the song. i played this song almost every day
You have to appreciate the depth of sincerity, aptly creating a overview of how life really brings you face to face with your soul- takes you to the exam room of the real, inevitable need to acknowledge the pain and layers of the soul that inform so much of our being as humans.
We've been divorced for 12 years and there will never be another person like you you are amazing and wonderful and I wish I could go back and change things I love you a thousand times and I always will
Todd you are a great man too show your feelings.
Go get her back Todd
my hubby and I were divorced for many years, but remarried 11 yrs ago. we were very young when first married, but still had that spark neither of us could forget. Todd go tell this woman how you wronged her and how you feel now. 12 years! Both of you are likely more grown up and different people now. Get to know one another again;)
Mandaloolu that is beautiful. make it work. be the best person you can be x
I pray Todd you and Deborah has a second chance at Love....God bless you both...
this part made me fall in love with Kevin Bacon, along with the famous scene in footloose. his love for this woman..I love Elizabeth McGovern, she rocks! she's such a great actress and so unbelievably babyfaced adorable. What is she doing now?
Elizabeth MCGovern played Lady Cora Crawley on the Downton Abbey . The entire series. She was wonderful.
Kevin beacon was such an underrated actor. Love this movie I cry every time I see this
Do ppl realize how many masterpieces John Hughes has made?
