This song is the reason why I got into silent hill at all. It's haunting and melodic, I loved it so much the first time I heard it back when I was like 14.
Actually, Deftones covered two Duran Duran songs; both songs from the same album (the debut). The other one was "Night Boat". Obviously Deftones have a lot of respect for the band and these songs. Same goes with other bands/artists they covered like the Smiths, the Cure, Jawbox, the Cardigans, the Cars, and Sade.
ortem000 I veryuch agree, a decent cover is easy, but a great cover like this one is difficult to pull off, you want to dust your sound in while keeping the spirit and tone of the original. This is one of my favorite songs, definitely top 100
This cover is on par with their treatment of The Smiths "please please please" or Weezer's "sweater song" Chino is so fucking amazing and the loss of Chi Cheng is nothing short of a tragedy.
I first heard this version on the Duran Duran Tribute album in the late 90s and loved this cover so much then (even as a die-hard fan of the original). I love that there's new life through the movie Drive. Well deserved for an amazing song!
This is actually my favorite Deftones song (even though it's a cover). Their B-sides & Rarities being my favorite album by them. I'm not a big LS fan, but they do a great version of "Simple Man" as well. Impressive covers!
tThis whole album "B Sides and Rarities" is just fucking brilliant, its a cover album, Deftones covring from Duran Duran to Sade to even covering their own music!!!! Awesome!!!
Wish there was something I could do To make it turn around Before the tricks roll up his sleeves N he walks and taps his sticks To leave brisk Like a simple disease That you need to be aware Sit down in the chair Wear warmer coats next year I'm gone I was almost never anywhere You playing Alice again would no of Something about a thought of her behind a red tie He has made his decision I knew he would be difficult and strict It's early and I haven't risen But I'm going to acknowledge I don't know why he is acting sweet and calm With underlying units of anger and sadness with me But he's got something planned out That gives me chills I cover my heart and my ears From the ware Ever take the hand Even scratching for black blood Ever leave the other name out your mouth When dividing moments to where we stand now And knowing I don't know nothing Everybody transitioned in the opposites of my battle ground They have friends with messages He happily whips back up into the conversation As long as there's pain for me Both drama and trauma There's a way for me in his honor Ever just brush and braid a ladies top Kiss her brown shoulders And let her perfection drop And ignore it happened It's been 7 days And you've crept away with her to silent masquerades Then I'm assuming that's where you want to be I know yet soon Broken fragile on the ground floor No one ever comes around like this no more Hope I didn't completely ignore I was trying to do things That hotel didn't work for me Or you standing me up again And now you have it all figured out now right And there is nothing left for us Just riddles in the phone Collecting debt on license plates All the new media car commercials Sending you to Texas after catfish games Me sunken in an Oblivion Searching out what mom needs done around the house While wearing her blouse Thinking of angel names I know you got me doing something I know I have lost direction All this dust in the air And tension Last weeks fakeness led to exhaust And I'm a couple pennies short of a smile now If only I could wake up and remember That feeling of not caring just feeling good But not 24/7 But moments like this All day digging Death smiling coming in With his many weapon Belittling my time And now it's been a week and I cannot find u I'm irritated now with truth The injustices of everything The way you don't forgive And can just move on So easily But would if I've done nothing wrong in my eyes Even when all the world has the right ways As a thinker and a writer I sometimes sit and think to myself That's not the way it goes Like u n her Unless u want that and if you do I have deceased and I know no one But it's not like you To not wait I was so perfectly off Raised bars and all that Still things were not going that great Way over here at mom's Where You disappear And come back If you want her Don't let me hold you back Just don't blame me On how I act I'm living Good choices, and mistakes All jumbled up together Forever more Now where is that Leading Left behind Waiting Or in agony Collecting dust on a shelf in the world Coming close to you last week was sweet I was catfished but at least it was over someone like you Then judge me if you want her too All is fine
For me, it's always been a stalemate between Deftones & Tool. (Then Maynard formed A Perfect Circle and made it even harder considering RATM was already third for me...) No matter what I love them with every ounce of my being and always will.
The song isn't from the movie. Deftones covered this back in the late 90's. Someone just took clips from the film and synced it with the song. They did a great job.
T SY ahh Deftones just did. Duran duran’s is kind of clunky in parts. This moves very smoothly. The outro is just such a beast but I do miss the ocarina. I also prefer Chino’s voice.
i don`t want to say any bad word of DD . But i came here for deftones . And here they are deftones at their best . Thx DD for the original song . But you can guess what version i like .
the song is about methamphetamine addiction. someone choosing the drug over a person. that's what the glass splinters are about as well as blue silver I think? besides. duran duran!? clearly on some sort of drug if u ask me
Love the Deftones version. Btw, this movie was good too, but the D2 original vid for the song is way better. Go see it now for yourself (parental advisory for the tits at the end).
I was just watching Jonathan Davis sing this live & seen a lot of comments saying that Deftones did a better job. I love Deftones but JD def did a much better job. He puts such an emotion into it. This is great too but .. yeah.
This isn't a bad cover but I just don't feel like the singer understands what he's singing about. That's not to say I do but Duran Durans version just feels more alive.
you don't really know Deftones. Chino sounds amazingly invested in the lyrics, he grew up with this song and the band as a whole and he cares a lot and to me, it sounds like he does. It's not so spectacular to take away from the original, which is exactly what he wanted. It's a homage.
I think this shits all over the original. They took a fairly clunky song, kept the general feel and tone and just smoothed it out and made a banger outro. I get it if you prefer the quirkiness of the original but this is as good as it gets when you keep the same spirit but make it your own. As for Chino this guy lives the words he sing, he’s totally invested but it does sound like he’s trying to sound like the original.
I love how the first part is Deftones doing Duran Duran and the second part feels like “we’ll take it from here” and it’s all Deftones.
That was Stef saying alright Chino, we need to rock now. Stef loved doing it Chino thought he wouldn't want to do a Duran cover. But it's great
Timeless, was just listening to Duran Duran and stopped it to pull this version
I love the Duran Duran version, but I have now discovered The Deftones.
Amazing.
It's just "Deftones". No "The" in their name.
+rosie beattie A-yo, dat's amazin'.
+rosie beattie one of the best covers i've ever heard...his voice is so similar to the Original version...
+rosie beattie first an second album increible... 3rd was pop songs... but Koi No Yokan is the best of the lot.
Actually this song (the chaffeur) is not from the debut album but from Rio.
The guitars add a new dimension to the song that I really like.
One of the few covers that I think is on par with the original. They both sound unique but still have that same emotion.
ortem000 I veryuch agree, a decent cover is easy, but a great cover like this one is difficult to pull off, you want to dust your sound in while keeping the spirit and tone of the original. This is one of my favorite songs, definitely top 100
but the Duran video is way better :D
it is like really good sex. it isn't always the same but it is ALWAYS really good. rduffus.wordpress.com
This cover is on par with their treatment of The Smiths "please please please" or Weezer's "sweater song"
Chino is so fucking amazing and the loss of Chi Cheng is nothing short of a tragedy.
Tyler Keller they also covered Nightboat by DD and it’s honestly a song I cannot get enough of. Their cover MIGHT be better than DuranDuran’s og.
I first heard this version on the Duran Duran Tribute album in the late 90s and loved this cover so much then (even as a die-hard fan of the original). I love that there's new life through the movie Drive. Well deserved for an amazing song!
January 2020 and I just discovered this version.
COMPLETELY BLEW ME AWAY!
Never knew this was even around. I must own this!
I wish the audio on all videos was this good/ Cheers to whoever did their job!!!
one of my favourite songs and one of my favourite actress (Carey Mulligan)
Oh my goodness... How am I only now seeing this?! Sploosh. Awesome job on the vid (from girl who loves her Mustang, Deftones & Ryan Gosling) :D
This is actually my favorite Deftones song (even though it's a cover). Their B-sides & Rarities being my favorite album by them. I'm not a big LS fan, but they do a great version of "Simple Man" as well. Impressive covers!
James Cory That Cure cover though.
Their simple man cover has so much feeling from Chino, you really feel like he’s singing it to his son.
tThis whole album "B Sides and Rarities" is just fucking brilliant, its a cover album, Deftones covring from Duran Duran to Sade to even covering their own music!!!! Awesome!!!
Such an excellent cover version! :)
I loved the original version and I love this even more. Great job Deftones!
My favourite band ever!!!
Versione fantastica! Grandi Deftones😍😎
First time ever I have liked the original and the cover of the same song EQUALLY. They are very different from each other and they are both amazing
You can love two things, both give that feeling of reaching a spiffing zenith. Stunning .
Wow well done. My favorite Duran Duran song of all time.
1999 I miss you
I love discovering a song by a band that I love only to discover that it is a cover of a band that I grew up listening to
2:35 thats wicked!
You nailed it on the head. That's exactly where this song does it for me.
\m/
Brilliant cover!
Great version!
I love the song & that the deftones did it.
His voice.. God damn everything...
....I would hope to last forever This song !
If deftones didnt already get me wet, seeing Ryan Gosling in this soundtrack music video would have got the job done.
Double whammy
🤯🌊
Saucy mare....
Chino gets me wet and I don't even have a vagina.
Damn Straight!!!! Sooooooo SEXY
me too
@@k.m.382 😅😅😅 you win
Its Black Friday! Gotta get that 900 inch TV for 30% off! Outta my way!!.......cool Duran Duran cover btw

We agree that this song, regardless who plays it, is just... wow
A. J. yes Sir !
This is like the power sounds . Awesome
...świetny cover mojego ulubionego numeru Duran Duran.
Deftones, Drive and Duran. Yep.
Flawless
song is so good
Is the film any good? I first saw Duran Duran in 1982 and I'm well impressed by this cover!
Best DD cover - wow @ 2:31 mark.
VERY nice cover!!
deftones, dammmm⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I rank this version second behind Jonathan Davis and the SFA. Both are awesome though!!!
Love this video.
duranduran is great in its own way during that time it was what was "in" that's still my favorite one ..this one is really good tho
I like what they did with this Duran Duran song.
Ok guitar rift not bad deftones did a good job no body cant undo the original really out nobody outdor
wish i could drive like that
God I love Deftones version of that fucking song!!!!!!!
Wish there was something
I could do
To make it turn around
Before the tricks roll up his sleeves
N he walks and taps his sticks
To leave brisk
Like a simple disease
That you need to be aware
Sit down in the chair
Wear warmer coats next year
I'm gone
I was almost never anywhere
You playing Alice again would no of
Something about a thought of her behind a red tie
He has made his decision
I knew he would be difficult and strict
It's early and I haven't risen
But I'm going to acknowledge
I don't know why he is acting sweet and calm
With underlying units of anger and sadness with me
But he's got something planned out
That gives me chills
I cover my heart and my ears
From the ware
Ever take the hand
Even scratching for black blood
Ever leave the other name out your mouth
When dividing moments to where we stand now
And knowing I don't know nothing
Everybody transitioned in the opposites of my battle ground
They have friends with messages
He happily whips back up into the conversation
As long as there's pain for me
Both drama and trauma
There's a way for me in his honor
Ever just brush and braid a ladies top
Kiss her brown shoulders
And let her perfection drop
And ignore it happened
It's been 7 days
And you've crept away with her to silent masquerades
Then I'm assuming that's where you want to be
I know yet soon
Broken fragile on the ground floor
No one ever comes around like this no more
Hope I didn't completely ignore
I was trying to do things
That hotel didn't work for me
Or you standing me up again
And now you have it all figured out now right
And there is nothing left for us
Just riddles in the phone
Collecting debt on license plates
All the new media car commercials
Sending you to Texas after catfish games
Me sunken in an Oblivion
Searching out what mom needs done around the house
While wearing her blouse
Thinking of angel names
I know you got me doing something
I know I have lost direction
All this dust in the air
And tension
Last weeks fakeness led to exhaust
And I'm a couple pennies short of a smile now
If only I could wake up and remember
That feeling of not caring just feeling good
But not 24/7
But moments like this
All day digging
Death smiling coming in
With his many weapon
Belittling my time
And now it's been a week and I cannot find u
I'm irritated now with truth
The injustices of everything
The way you don't forgive
And can just move on
So easily
But would if I've done nothing wrong in my eyes
Even when all the world has the right ways
As a thinker and a writer I sometimes sit and think to myself
That's not the way it goes
Like u n her
Unless u want that and if you do
I have deceased and I know no one
But it's not like you
To not wait
I was so perfectly off
Raised bars and all that
Still things were not going that great
Way over here at mom's
Where You disappear
And come back
If you want her
Don't let me hold you back
Just don't blame me
On how I act
I'm living
Good choices, and mistakes
All jumbled up together
Forever more
Now where is that
Leading
Left behind
Waiting
Or in agony
Collecting dust on a shelf in the world
Coming close to you last week was sweet
I was catfished but at least it was over someone like you
Then judge me if you want her too
All is fine
... like Duran Duran with Robert Fripp on the guitar :)
Deftones pick great covers and play them just as good or not better than the original version.
+Todd Ryan totally agree!
deftones drive & duran
Ehh,, he doesn't quite go all out for the siiiiiiiiiiing blue silver as good as Simon does.
On the other hand, this is a pretty nice cover....
good cover but dd just have the edge as it was an amazing tune for 1982, still well done though
Min 2:32 speed 1.25>
Mid-70's fastback Chevelle. Cool!!!
12 year old trapped in a 40 year old's body trapped in a 53 year old mother's basement.
They don` catch the melancoly, still great version.
For me, it's always been a stalemate between Deftones & Tool. (Then Maynard formed A Perfect Circle and made it even harder considering RATM was already third for me...) No matter what I love them with every ounce of my being and always will.
All these idiots on here bashing this song who are comparing it to the original....it’s a totally different song....idiots
whut no 'slosion? i bin gypped!
- Carla Satana
Can you please make this available for mobile viewing??
i guess i need to see this movie
The instrumental is great, but i can't go past how gritty and rough JD's cover of this is. His vocals put a whole new depth into the song.
beutiful hey.
here because of Duran Duran..i like there version better
mater suspiria vision does the best version of this song hands down
Alguém sabe o nome do filme por favor?
Se llama "Drive"
Super obrigada ♥
Lucya Games pelicula de culto sin importar que es reciente...
this reminds me the hunger games
Dang that’s weird, I watched this movie a few months ago and I don’t remember this song being in it. Usually I remember stuff like this
The song isn't from the movie. Deftones covered this back in the late 90's. Someone just took clips from the film and synced it with the song. They did a great job.
the old beating heart
Неожиданно хорошо)
Let's not compare and argue...
just can't beat Duran Duran's original cover. definitely.
But you can guess what version i like .
at an appropriate matchup
ALL deftones songs syncronize with this movie
the song is about methamphetamine addiction. someone choosing the drug over a person. that's what the glass splinters are about as well as blue silver I think? besides. duran duran!? clearly on some sort of drug if u ask me
Duran Duran is great! Deftones are just good boys...
This song is missing Nick Rhodes haunting keyboards...
💕💘💕
Not a bad version of it. I still prefer Duran Duran original.
tHIS SONG IS HAUNTINGLY SEXY!
Haha...Fuckin Awesome!!!
Check out warpaints cover of the same song.
Gta 6 is looking gr8
... and we dont need official video clip
Love the Deftones version. Btw, this movie was good too, but the D2 original vid for the song is way better. Go see it now for yourself (parental advisory for the tits at the end).
Not sure how this Chrysler 300 is keeping up with a Mustang but..
Not too bad of a cover.
It's so close so many parts sound like Duran Duran not deftones
Ooooo Rio Rio
obviously Deftones respect Duran Duran or they would not have covered one of their songs.
I was just watching Jonathan Davis sing this live & seen a lot of comments saying that Deftones did a better job. I love Deftones but JD def did a much better job. He puts such an emotion into it. This is great too but .. yeah.
I love Duran Duran but this right here is one of those rare moments when the cover is better than the original.
That's because you hearen't the version from the album Thank you from Duran Duran, better than all of this. The original, has the magic of the moment.
Nay! But still an awesome bersion

2:33 begins nirvana (not the band)
mmm.
