11:51 is "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel. It's was an extremely popular album in the indie scene and with Hipsters in general, it's still a pretty big cult classic. I'd recommend it, legit pretty great album.
ahh ok thanks for clearing that up for me, i've heard of Neutral Milk Hotel but haven't really listened to them
Any 90s alt-rock list without Cranberries albums is just a joke
they had what? 2 songs that mattered?
@@DancingwithGhosts you're just a moron
Cranberris are awesome shut up of you face!!!@@DancingwithGhosts
Saw you throw it in the Don’t Know category. You GOTTA check out Doolittle by Pixies. Classic.
Yo Josh. Do you happen to know if the soundtrack from original Stack Unsolved Mysteries is availabe anywhere digitally to purchase in good quality. Maybe even in FLAC? That vinyl is badass but id like to have that greatness on my digital library aswell.
it's been uploaded online for a while, to my knowledge the only physical that exists is in record form

For me In Utero is the best Nirvana album. Amazing production (and even better than Nevermind) and great songs. You absolutely have to get back Grace by Jeff Buckley, the title track is perhaps my favorite of him :)
yeah that's definitely a blind spot in my 90s alt rock lexicon i do need to give it a spin
Steve Albini... If you don't know who he is look him up.
@@Gatorade69 isn’t he a pedophile?
@Conburgundyy in utero wasn't an official studio album, it was a rarities and b-sides compilation
@@DancingwithGhosts in utero was an official studio album and was the follow up to nevermind. The b side album was insecticide. Which is also a really cool album.
What band has that album with the werid lady head on it i always forgot who did that.
No Presidents Of The United States of America 😔
i know right? the choices they gave me were not comprehensive enough
American Idiot came out in 2004, so that one shouldn’t even be on there.
On a separate note, I’m not sure if it fits on this list, but I think one that should have been on here is Clarity by Jimmy Eat World. Came out in 1999, so it counts as 90s. Didn’t get much recognition when it came out, but is now looked on as a landmark album in the development of the whole Emo thing. Again, not sure if it fits on here, because it wasn’t big at the time, but maybe it does to some people.
it's definitely more alternative than Blink 182... especially the album that followed Clarity but ya, it definitely did help kick-start the new wave of emo in the oughts
Jimmy Eat World always reminds me of one of those all-you-can-eat global buffet-type places.
Compared to the utter shite Green Day are releasing these days American Idiot is tip top and I don't even like American Idiot.
yeah they tried to go all indie on that FATHER OF ALL MOTHERFUCKERS album and ended up just sounding like boomer rock.. very tone deaf
I'm a huge Oasis fan and i'd never heard you mention them before, so I was excited to see how you were gonna rank em'. Aaaaaand I was dissapointed, but I saw it coming a mile away. The way you speak about Brit-Pop always comes off negatively. But the 'SUCKS' category!?
I love everything you say you hate about them lol. But hey, its an opinion.
In Utero, one if the best albums of all time, a “disappointing follow up”
The fourth Nirvana album would be New wave, Kurt talked alot about how he wanted to turn his career around :)
Yup and he also talked about becoming an acoustic singer-songwriter like Johnny Cash. I feel like if Kurt had stayed with us he'd have been probably even bigger than he already was, especially as a singer-songwriter.
Superunknown is easily S tier
I highly respect your music opinion. You are very right about American Idiot. It’s very overrated. But Soundgarden’s Superinknown changed my life. Kickstand, Mailman and 4th of July are amazing b sides! Also glad you reaffirmed your GNR hatred! They are the worst band ever to me
thank you man i appreciate that.. yeah GNR is such over-hyped crap.. nothing special about them at all i guess there a 'you had to be there' moment in music history
@@DancingwithGhosts GnR were a kind of scam act. There was no real core to them.
In utero in meh is crazy
Right
It utero was not really good tbh, the replay value for most songs are bad.
@@shopan809 saying heart shaped box, all apologies, scentless apprentice, rap3 me, pennyroyal tea, and serve the servants have no replay-ability is insane
the music genre you do isn't my cup of tea, yet oddly your music I find pretty good. the quality is very good on the audio, as is the quality of the vids.
well thank you! Our music isn't necessarily "alt rock", it's kind of a mix of a bunch of different genres
You and I share the exact same opinion on Oasis. Never clicked and I always felt they were THE most pretentious band ever. Almost satirical levels to me. Great list and video, dude!
much appreciated!
@@DancingwithGhosts Great channel dude I love your vocal processor review I was JUST looking into those.
@@FreneticZetetic thanks! maybe one day i'll get a fan base :D
Not knowing The Stone Roses is pretty criminal.
It’ll be a shame if I went to the school bathrooms and saw this video(work is slow as hell today)
haha do it! do it!
No Cranberries,Mazzy Star or Hole? Really
Cranberries and Mazzy Star for sure! Hole? No way! Purely down to Courtney Love being so vile.
I can't believe I never heard Mazzy Star here in the UK until a good decade after its release? The Cranberries were big-time though to be sure!
I'm very much in agreement with your opinions. Only a few things here and there that I didn't agree with. Nothing too egregious I suppose. I kind of expected to see 311's self-titled, Third Eye Blind's self-titled, and Incubus's Make Yourself albums on this list. Those are some of my all time favorites! But maybe they don't compare in sales. I would have at least thought that Third Eye Blind would have made the cut: I still hear those songs everywhere I go.
Wonderful my friend. Thanks for sharing. 😀 Stay in touch. New friend here
hello new friend
I always enjoy your tier lists videos but honestly this selection makes no sense. Should just be "random '90s albums" but already so much bias in what they exclude/include. Think these are best when you do by band or at least a specific genre.
it wasn't the best list but it pretty much hit most of the bases
please do a RHCP tier list
can do!
All under either eh or meh.
Bro please for the love of god we share almost all musical styles and bands, listen to the fucking pixies they are one of the greatest alt rock bands ever and did it before almost anyone. REM, nirvana all replicated a lot of there sound. I describe them as the proto pumpkins. You’ll totally understand my meaning if you give ‘em a shot. Where is my mind, Gouge away, hey, etc songs are all time greats
i've heard some pixie songs but i wouldn't consider myself a huge fan.. they're pretty good though just not quite my cup of tea
@@DancingwithGhosts I feel ya brother I was the same way until I sat down with there first two records and tried to “get it”. For me they grew like a fungus inside my brain until I ended up at listening to pretty much exclusively there music for months on end lol.
Is it just me who finds Superunknown by Soundgarden one of the most over-rated albums ever? Their earlier stuff was much better, even Down On The Upside, although patchy, is better IIMO.
it's all because of blackhole sun
About to drop an unpopular opinion that I’ll get grilled over: Nirvana was mostly style and had some catchy songwriting (Come as You Are is imo god-tier among catchy melodies in music history), but otherwise wasn’t all that good.
I still loved them though more than most bands. :)
haha the one Nirvana song you like was ripped off from a band called The Killing Joke. Listen to their song called "Eighties"
@@DancingwithGhosts Musicians do it all the time, whether knowingly or unknowingly!
@@cygnus_XI there was a court case with this one
@@DancingwithGhosts Also I like that you know about Killing Joke. Pssyche is one of my go-to tracks! :) And I’m definitely going to check the court case out. I know a little bit about these lawsuits with different songwriters but I haven’t heard of this particular lawsuit. Will be checking it out.
The Stone Roses is a classic, and it was 89
Kid A and Ok computer were probably the best albums by radiohead
Listen to the Pixies and Swans!
Here comes your man was the song i walked the aisle to when I married my wife. Black Francis is one of the most formative creators of the alternative rock genre about 10 years before pumpkins and Alice became the new faces of said genre.
So Bleach is a better album than In Utero?
I kinda hate to comment only about Nirvana & Nevermind since there’s so much other stuff here to talk about but even if it’s overplayed.. well the hits atleast it’s still one of my favorite albums. It made me find about small clone pedal which is possibly my favorite pedal ever. I love those echoey watery kinda gothy sounds you can make with it.
now i want a small clone! you've sold me
Incesticide…dats what real nirvana sounds like to me.
Half of these albums aren’t even alternative music…
Got some L takes in this video, but pretty good overall
curious as to what my L's were in your opinion
@@DancingwithGhosts mostly the Green Day placement and the In Utero take, I really feel American Idiot is top 3 for them personally and what you may take as overdramatic writing comes off more of a good storyline being told with the character throughout, but I can see it not being everyone's cup of tea. In Utero's brashness and almost anti album feel of itself really lends me to love it for that too. But yea like I said just those couple disagreements but overall nice vid.
lol josh dont know neutral milk hotel
LISTEN TO SONIC YOUTH🤬
ive heard some of their stuff, it's ok
Spotify messed up the list. Guns Roses alternative ? I dont even consider those 2 Metallica records alternative. Out of Time ? And they missed a lot of good alternative records.
I agree with In Utero, Blood sex , Odelay
I disagree with Pearl Jam and the British part. The Brits/ Irish/ Scots did drop some good records in the 90's by bands like Therapy , Stereophonics, Ash and the debut from Oasis is amazing. Each with their own.
Musically RATM were brilliant but i can't stand their communist lyrics/ praise and dislike rap. I also dislike the whinning of Radiohead . Placebo and Bush are way better.
Cool video, love the alternative rock
Dunno how you can accuse Radiohead of whining and then recommend Brian Molko's singing!
@@nobbynoris
Yorke is literally crying
Its not only the lyrics, but the voice as well. Dude sounds like he's about to get cut. The first 2 records were ok, starting with OK Computer i've lost my interest
I dont care what anyone says bush was awesome.
@@johnwinthrop2702
They still are
Their last album its very good
I loath the term 'alternative' you can tell its made to be look at me, I'm not a sheep I listen to 'alternative'. OK looking at 28:00 2 sonic youth stone roses and something else lets see how this ends
well pretty lame they all went in the dont know pile, ha ha ha🤣
@@judithandzedjudithandzed109 ok thanks for watching, go back to your gatekeeping now
