I had a girl practically beg me to to see Metallica back in 88. I was a country boy. She promised dinner, a show and a good time later. I begrudgingly went. I have loved them ever since.

From IrishCentral: " “Whiskey in the Jar,” a song about a notorious Irish highwayman Patrick Fleming who was hanged in 1650, has become Ireland’s oldest most beloved song a true rebel air that stirs the passions."
Each generation reinterprets great older songs for themselves. Music is forever.

+@MrKastaway66: This is one of their most atypical videos, a case where the actions and the lyrics have nothing to do with each other. If, say, Guns N' Roses had made a a video depicting a wild, drunken party, nobody would have blinked. It's like Eric B. and Rakim's "Don't Sweat The Technique" video, which also had girls in bikinis at a party, though without the chaos seen here, which was not typical of their videos at all.

As I was goin' over
The Cork and Kerry Mountains
I saw Captain Farrell
And his money, he was countin'
I first produced my pistol
I then produced my rapier
I said, "Stand and deliver oh, or the devil he may take ya"
Yeah
I took all of his money
And it was a pretty penny
I took all of his money
Yeah, and I brought it home to Molly
She swore that she loved me
No, never would she leave me
But the devil take that woman
Yeah, for you know she tricked me easy
Musha rain dum a doo, dum a da
Whack for my daddy, oh
Whack for my daddy, oh
There's whiskey in the jar, oh
Being drunk and weary
I went to Molly's chamber
Takin' Molly with me
But I never knew the danger
For about six or maybe seven
Yeah, in walked Captain Farrell
I jumped up, fired my pistols
And I shot him with both barrels
Yeah, musha rain dum a doo, dum a da, ha, yeah
Whack for my daddy, oh
Whack for my daddy, oh
There's whiskey in the jar, oh
Yeah, whiskey, yo, whiskey
Oh, yeah, yeah, oh, go
Oh, oh, yeah
Now some men like a fishin'
And some men like the fowlin'
And some men like to hear
To hear the cannonball roarin'
Me, I like sleepin'
'Specially in my Molly's chamber
But here I am in prison
Here I am with a ball and chain, yeah

I believe this was a real party they filmed this at.
Oh Lordy, I had forgotten until I read a few of the comments that this video was still getting airplay in the mid 90's. I remember on Compuserve's CB Simulator having a discussion about what this video was like. Some of the comments gave me flashbacks to 1995 and..... I'm just going to shut up before I age myself any further. edited to add: Back in 1995 Thin Lizzy's version was still being played on the air as a "classic from the 70's." I freely admit in 1995 I was only drug-free a year and was still drinking.
This video came out in 1999
Alberta Rose

Making a music video like this looks so awesome... But so expensive...
in 90s Metallica had a lot of videos not like in 80s.
I'd assume they were planning on demolishing the house anyway.

This video is awful tho
Not only does this video have beer, expensive guitars, pillow fighting sluts and loud music, but also lots of destruction of furniture. I see nothing wrong here. Considering Metallica are man-children.

The Dubliners
@@NJPauly But I don't think that the earlier ones were done in a rock style with electric guitars ;)
Give Think Lizzy the credit that they are due for the one Metallica covered.
It’s been covered by everyone from Brian Adams to the violin version of the Kildares. Captain Phillips was in Cork & Carrie in 533 lol it’s a very old Irish folk song, The Highwaymen recorded it in 1962 6yrs before the Dubliners I think that’s the first electric guitar version but electric guitars had been popular for 10yrs before and it’s a very famous folk song so there is possibly an earlier recording?
definetly the best cover of metallica. phill lynott in heaven or hell for sure must be proud of this
I thought Luke Kelly did it first, could be wrong tho but the irish folk version is much better
i just know the thin lizzy version but it´s probably na irish folk song because envolves alchool ahaha
Matt Meyer Hah! As much as I love, love the Lynott version, I ask you to look to the roots. This song is old. Very old. Think "older than me great-great-granpappy". Search on Luke Kelly as mentioned above, but also The Clancy Brothers, etc. There is wisdom ... in the jar.
ok,this is a irish folk song, but i preferred the versions with guitars and drums like thin lizzy and metallica did it,there are many covers in music history way better than the original ones

Those girls are never going to make it to their 8 o'clock classes....
i love how lars plays in this song. nevermind his abilities but i think his style is just perfect for some songs. he has groove he has power he has the swing and the swagger and most of all his style is very recognizable. i like it and he is/was an inspiration for my own playing.
Agreed. He gets a lot of hate (admittedly from me as well sometimes)... But what he lacks in chops he makes up for with a powerful sound. Love him or hate him metallica wouldn't be what they are without him
He needs the more relaxed groove of a practicing individual. That’s all and he’s a better drummer.Practice groove.
A lot of people started playing the drums because they admired Lars speed and power. It blows my mind how many drum snobs there have been over the years bashing him.
I'm a drummer and far from a professional. But I really don't see any problems with Lars playing style its fast aggressive and has groove but hey ho what do i know lol

It sure would be nice to roll back the hands of time about 20 years or so. There was more of an attitude about things. WWF wrestling, what with it being the "Attitude Era, was great to watch, whether it was D generation X pulling their hijinks on everybody, the Undertaker being at his sadistic best in 1998-1999, or, best of all, watching a certain bald-headed, foul-mouthed, beer-swilling wrestler (Stone Cold Steve Austin) giving Vince McMahon and his cronies a bad time at every turn! This is also the golden time when Metallica cut their hair, changed the way that they did their music, did what they wanted to do musically (instead of letting other people make up their minds for them), and still rocked!!! Take me back to that time period, & I'll be happier than Rosie O'Donnell at a titty bar! Today's wrestling and music just ain't got that same punch to it. Take me back to the late 1990s, & leave me there. Forever!!!

Good times... even if it's a cover, this song makes me happy
This one of my FAVORITE songs by them. I love music and the video. I’d love to be able to tear up a house lol
still this song rocks in 2017
and will go on ....
When it reached 100 millions, please remaster this video in HD or 4K... this chicks deserved it!
The music itself is high quality so it doesn’t rlly matter
