That is a beautiful bass. Such a cool story. Back in the 80s my primary basses were Charvels. I always wanted a Jackson bass just like that one.

Mustaine has a personality that many just don't like, but you cannot deny the influence he's had on all metal guitarists that were learning in the 80s & 90s like me. I became a better rhythm player just practicing Megadeth songs.

In 2001 the bassist in my band bought a black Jackson Custom Shop 5 string from Mr. Ellefson (actually from the Megadeth Auctions that were held back then, possibly to recoup lost $ from Risk...?) Soon after we began playing bigger gigs further away from home. Highschool...17 and this kid had an instrument used on Rust in Peace and in multiple music videos, years of touring...all of it.
Lost touch with Greg years ago. Bummer.
That bass was something special. Hopefully still is. Hey, Greg Kenenitz originally from Ashland, PA, if you're out there, I hope you're still slapping and popping and banging that big head of yours!

Cool vid. My Army buddy donated the bass David used on Peace Sells... to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. David did a video on his webpage about it when he was at the HOF, then he talked to my buddy at the show in Greensboro,NC about donating it.

The first time I caught you guys was at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ill Nino was opening for you. Rizzo was still with them at that point. We asked Rizzo after the show what bands he liked touring with, and he said he really liked touring with you guys. Really awesome night :)
Yeah that's awesome! I remember that show! Rizzo is the man... every morning on that tour I'd wake up and stroll off the bus, and Marc would be out there perched under some tree, playing flamenco guitar! Then he'd throw some boxing gloves on and get a couple hour boxing workout in. Then anytime you'd see him throughout the day after that, he'd have a guitar in his hand, running scales and licks, constantly working on his game. The dude was an animal!

Yes I highly recommend Robs rock house dvd. Its full of great guitar techniques and just the way rob gos about things really clicked with me. I've try a bunch of other dvds and tab books that I just got Frustrated with. Then when I got robs dvd it was like a whole new world just opened up too me. Thats Rob Arnold world. What I really like that its a dvd cause if something ever happened the dvd will always be there.

David Ellefson is who got your foot in the door to make that instructional?... Wow, thats surreal. That signature bass has a real bite to it. A bit different than my Fender Precision Copy with Flatwound D'ADDARIO strings. Anyway, buying Dave's bass directly from him in the flesh is a trip man.

I really dig the low set action on that bass! That aggressive “pop” or “buzz” sound is exactly how I set mine up.
(Makes it super easy for me to control when and how I want it to come out. Geddy is a master of controlling that, and everything else for that matter!😂)

I have to say that was very interesting. Loved the story about yourself and David. And also some of the live footage from The kings of thrash. Was it only them that you got to see or did you check out some of the other band Rob ? Hariot are a cool band. If you don't know anything about them, then the bass player / singer and the drummer are the sons of Steve Zetro from Exodus.

Yeah man! It absolutely rules! Everything about it is solid. I ended up giving it to my bass player Jim LaMarca, and he used it at our recent reunion shows and loved it too!

Those have a great tone but they always seem to have just a little bit too much fret buzz going on. That said, they always sound great sitting in the mix on the old Megadeth records.

At the rave in Wisconsin. All of you guys in chimera and the machine Head guys were really cool to the supporting Acts. Just wanted to say thanks it was a great time for everyone.
