Johnston visited Taiwan for the Taipei Security Dialogue hosted by the Institute for National Defense and Strategic Research, a government-funded organization. Yin Khvat caught up with him on November 9, 2023.
Survey showed Japan is trusted by the majority of Filipinos.
filipinos love the country that used to colonize them. Bruh😅
@@yichengzPast is Past and they already apologize. Our ancestors and their ancestors already paid for it. What is Present is more important than Past. And I think you are Chinese right?😂😂😂😂😂😂 Chinese are more greedy today than it was before.
that was a long time ago and by a Japan that was an empire dictatorship... just like china today while Japan is a liberal democracy now. Nice try wumao, to hide the horrors of yur dictatorship that pushes all it's neighbors against it just like happens to russia. @@yichengz
go serch up what happend in manila and come back
@@zehechen920lol we know our history. Well we know how brutal japan during ww2. But now china is acting like he is going for war. With his neighbors. Past is past. We moved on but never forget.
One reason why some of the ASEAN COUNTRIES (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand) are silent OR DUMBFOUNDED in the issue of the South China Sea is that they are in the pocket of China. Their infrastructures are debt loans to China while the Philippines chooses Japan.
Every man for himself. The Philippines is not getting support from the Asean, therefore she has to secure her sovereign right by all means. Vietnam & Taiwan will do the same.
Yeah, I also start to doubt the US; China and US have this bitter-sweet relationship; when comes to businesses US talks to China, but when come to its allies who want civil investments with the US, the US want to talk more about military! The heck?!
@@ninojanjeremygo463 Ok choose one, giving you "some" U.S. investments or China will take over some of your sovereign rights. Can't get two things at the same time.
Who knows, if the sovereign rights you will give up to China have an abundant of gas and oil and surpasses the U.S. investments. Think hard or you lose.
the ccp bought their leaders into accepting HORRIBLE deals. The ones in a democracy will be thrown out soon as happened in Sri-Lanka when the people learnt of the horrible deals they signed for kickbacks.
It's cute they think they have sovereignty.
@@vlhc4642 Yeah, you're right, mainland Chinese do not own any lands, human rights, and their body (organs literally), because: 'communism'...
The Filipinos doesn't hold grudge against an enemy who has come a long way to change, accepted their mistake and Being contrite ...The principles of being a Christian . If Jesus can forgive and pray for those people who punished and mocked Him! " Why can't the Filipinos ??Thank you Japan .
That UNCLOS ruling which invalidates the China 9 Dashline in favor of the Philippines have led neighbors Australia, Japan, Taiwan, NZ, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam & Malaysia to join in & support the rules based order. Peace & regional security has always been the main agenda.
This
And the actions and policies of the Marcos administration including diversifying its security alliances and economic agreements with like-minded nations is the right thing to do. Given that the Philippines is still currently building up its military capabilities and assets.
Such a great interviewer-very professional ❤
Philippines shall never forget these PROC or mainlanders china & these ROC, Koumintang chinese has an issue of snatching/grabbing the same of Philippine territory, and that taiwanese militia fisherman is trying to snatch the Mavulis island part of Philippine territory, until accident happen in his own doing. Please learn more on the history of the real people of Taiwan, for they have been oppressed, eversince long ago by these envasive chinese.
Taiwan is lucky to have Philippines as neighbours.
Imagine Philippines efforts to help Taiwan in silence.
The more Europeans and American helping hands to Philippines the lights of freedom slowly shining from above.
Without other ASEAN we Taiwan, Philippines and Japan is already a strong walls as solid as steel... maybe other ASEAN are just silent and observe the situation closely,
If Philippines be backed up by other ASEAN then Philippines be greatful.
@@anonymoustargetindividual true tho... if forgiveness exists. cannot always stay in the past
@@anonymoustargetindividual Lol you want to be enlightened what was happened that incident? Taiwanese fisherman was inside Philippines water or batanes group of islands, pcg guarded the island and tried to stop those illegal fishing in our ezz, but they continue to run away pcg was fired a warning shots, but accidentally shot the driver, this issue was solved by jailing those pcg and compensate the family of the victim.
What about china did to Vietnam? And the corals and encroachment of our islands and resources? That's was more barbaric of china compared to Phil. Right?
This already have negotiation
I know the last president of Philippines before have fault
@@arisdionela9755 the water can't be dispute with Taiwan because remember Philippines has right over Taiwan than china over Taiwan, you know why? Part of Taiwan was province of Manila
,Same with other islands palau and Guam.
Many countries raise their national security budgets as response against China‘s aggression
Philippines trusts Japan more than any other country it's because Japan has been vital with infrastructure-buildup and nation-building in the Philippines.
We do pray these CHINESE COMMIES
does not go beyond the RED LINE!
China always stays within the 9 dashed line.
There's no dashes out there in that vast sea. There's water, reefs, and other natural features a person would expect. But no 'physical' dashed line to be seen.

The One and Only independent Taiwan.
Yes, the Taiwanese voted freely for democracy and their freedom and we must respect the free vote of the people and above all they saw how this happened in Hong Kong where all individual freedoms disappeared, replaced by the single thought of the ccp and its dictator xi.
this interview was informative
I think Malaysia and Indonesia will support Philippines silence cos new PM of Malaysia was sponsored by Jose Rizal in the past, he is well connected with Philippines. Indonesia and Brunei is our family neighbours...
😊
Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos will join the military Exercises with China next month. You can't rely on the support of these countries
no they won't. Why would any chinese neighbor participate in training with them when they are the ONLY invader in the area? @@user-wz5mq7eh7v
Don't be so sure of yourself. Majority of them are Muslims . .Muslims side with fellow Muslims right or wrong.. not the Christians/ Catholic practice 😅
@@zeniehudson7098 just a country divided them not a religions.
Actually we don't really expect them to help us as ASEAN or as family, if our efforts is not enough to save Taiwan or south east ASEAN sea from china then it's up to them. At least we are doing our efforts and resources to fight what is belongs to us. We are not afraid of china...we are fighting for our children future to secure our ezz not to become international passage in the future.
what we need is Japan, USA, South Korea, Australia now European are coming to Philippines to help as well to advance our technologies such as radars and nukes..
Infact we produce our own military assets.
Numerous of countries, alliances are donated advance assets and assistance to modernise our technologies and assets.

If China loses Myanmar , China's backdoor , it mean China will ensure that it will totally secure the South China Sea.
china will not prevail.
Taiwan would be all the smarter not to join in regarding the military stuff with Philippines, Japan and US. Remember this tip: Ex-Pres. Duterte is smarter than Marcos Jr.
secret deals would be better, yes
Duterte got played a fool by the Chinese.
How many in Philppines realize, if war breaks out and they're part of it, their entire territory becomes fair game for Chinese strikes and occupation.
The Philippines already realized this a long time ago. that is why they're aligning with their old allies to correct what was done by the former president. The Philippines knows whether they keep silent or not about what China is doing in its waters, it will still be a part on the war that will happen. Better be preparing that nothing. You will notice an increased US bases. thus making it hard for china.
….So will Japan (in fact, I think most will be surprised by how many ASEAN countries become involved if China invades Taiwan….)….Don’t be surprised if Singapore doesn’t quietly support Japan/US….
Yeah ... we're used to it often happening... but to cause harm to Filipino people just to gain Economic Dominance & Economic Relevance in the Global Power Competition... is absolutely insane move...
Clearly the Philippines 🇵🇭 is not after any Global War Instigation moves... because in the past decades... you can see that we Filipinos never increases our Military Armed Forces... but we focus on professions that supports to heal the world... that's why most of us are Medically Inclined and it is the force Nursing Healthcare Profession is what we greatly increased.
@@Abdul_JaculBuratsadorSalsalani If the Philippines is not ready to give China the West Philippines Sea, then it better pick the right side early and deter China. Chinese military resources is limited, If war breaks out, most of its military resources will be used against Taiwan and coalition forces helping to defend Taiwan. It is very doubtful China can sustain any attack against the Philippines.
@@tigerhu5469 Sure Chinese military resources will be focused against those involved in the war, but you missed the part where Philippines is part of that coalition involved in the war.
China won't occupy you during the war, no, but while Americans can run back to North America and count on their nukes, what do you think will happen to you when Americans leave and you're still at war with China?
You'll also be surprised just how long history's largest industrial power who produces 20 thousand drones a DAY in peacetime and operates 2/3 of all robots on earth can sustain an attack on you.
Japan will always seek for support, remembering how it tortures Chinese people during WW2. Phillippines was pro Japan during the war, so they have something in common
Pro japan? Lol. The philippines had the highest casualty rate and had the highest resistance.
Try to check what happen during world war 2 philippines is pro americans no japanese but now ue to bullying of china philippines is pro american and pro japanese

Dog flocks with dog..nothing new..
Friends flock, dogs run away.
It’s birds with the same feathers flock together
Dogs together strong, dogs bite baddies
It's Birds that flocks together and also sheeps, but dogs? Nah, sometimes they also bites each other for territorial control, so dogs would be like China biting her neighboring countries for territory.

People should know: It’s the Philippine Coast Guard that had shot to death a Taiwanese fisherman in 2013 in the near Taiping Island which is an island administered by Taiwan. However, China has not shoot to death anyone over the incidents between China and Philippines. In addition, two Vietnamese fishermen died in 2017 in a tragic incident with the Philippine Navy. Further, Philippines’ claims are contested by other countries, such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, China and Taiwan, too. China is not the bad guy. So, Japan and US are ganging up with Philippines to suppress and to war with China.

@@zehechen920 Since you asked for it. Let's see how you react to the rest of the comments I'm about to leave here.
In another fatal shooting in Philippine waters, two Vietnamese fishermen were killed when a Philippine Navy ship fired warning shots on their boat, hitting the bow of the vessel.
The Navy arrested the other Vietnamese fishermen who were allegedly poaching in waters off Bolinao, Pangasinan, on Sept. 23, 2017.
The Vietnamese government said it would not press charges against two Navy officers and eight sailors who were found responsible for the deaths. The Philippine government, in turn, released the five other crewmen of the fishing boat on humanitarian grounds.
