    Great job...on the video explanation, camera work, and the bed build. You're very creative. You could market this.

    The complexity of your brilliant build is inspiring even for someone who does not do any thing fancy wood work at all. Thanks

    I don't always agree with your design decisions, but I really like the thoughtful way you approach the design problem!

    I wish I had your woodworking skills, superb build:) I found that with these types of beds, instead of putting a fitted top sheet on the mattress to sleep on, it is much easier to use a piece of very light carpet and make a cotton sleeve for it. Then just unroll and roll back up as required. kinda like a bed roll. It also takes out the foam mattress gaps.

    Lovely and informative video. I've never understood why anyone would sacrifice 30-35% of their already limited space for a fixed bed. In my opinion, a bed should come from something else - for example, by folding out a sofa. Space in a camper is so limited that things need to transform into other things to save both space and weight. For instance, it's also pretty pointless to have a bed that simply folds into the wall... you still carry the weight of the bed but don't use that weight for anything other than sleeping.
    Your futon design is smart and functional.
    And listen - it only takes 1-2 minutes to set up your bed and the same to pack it away again. So, go for a bed/sofa combo!
    Greetings from Denmark!

    Seen a few of your videos before. This is the one that got me to subscribe. Sensible van design, and sensible bed frame idea - well done! You didn't need to cut the foam mattress, tho - a 70 or 100mm thick firm foam mattress bends fine without cutting it. From experience, your slideout frame will need a centre leg as well, perhaps a removable one, or a slideout storage box the right height to support the frame.

    Thanks for a great set of videos. It's nice to see a channel that works with broad concepts, develops rationale for decisions, and then further adds high level practical methodology. It's the difference of walking a woodworker through a plan vs. teaching design and technique. Do you want to copy one piece or build a house worth of furniture... Keep it up.

    You could get a futon cover but they would be a pain to put on in the van

    Those telescoping beds are terribly complex to build and hard for elderly to operate to closed position since have to push while stooped over. Curious if it would be so much harder to operate if you just piano hinge two identical pieces of solid wood and let them rest on top of each other like a closed book when not used as a bed and an open book when used as a bed. Could add a third narrower, piano-hinged piece to use as the bench back support when closed and to get the extra bed width when open, but also able to allow the dog thru. If ventilation is needed, you could cut a bunch of holes in the three with a holesaw or CNC.

    The least little thing scratching your beautiful veneer combos, would be hard, if not impossible to repair. Are you using hide glue so you can remove and repair a damaged piece of veneer?

    What about folding the mattress differently, such that the section behind the drivers seat faces the wall with the join to middle piece is at the top, with the join to the 3rd piece is down, then you could sit on the top of 3rd section?
    There must be a reason why not, but I can't think of it? (I'm pondering on a 3 section bed the other way, ie with the joins going across rather than length )

    • @darwiniandude
      @darwiniandude Рік тому +1

      One reason I can think of that he mentions early on in this video is how the driver and passenger seats swivel and can be used for a hang out space with friends, those two seats combined with the sofa.

      @ifell3 Рік тому +2

      @@darwiniandude yes there is that point too. Trying to figure out what to do myself. I kind of like that all the water changes and other things can be accessed from the rear of the truck. Could have my clean and grey water and fuel stored all from the rear.

    • @darwiniandude
      @darwiniandude Рік тому +1

      @@ifell3 yeah exactly. Conversely, it’d be nice to stretch out on the bed at the back and have the rear hatch / doors open. So many choices :)

      @ifell3 Рік тому

      @@darwiniandude yeah, in the UK the amount of times having the rear doors open to a view will be less then having the side open I think.
