I thought about buying the regular version of this for the last year but wanted a more sportier car similar to my GTI 4 door hatch but in search for more sophistication and a mature non-SUV crossover, I was going to test drive an Audi S5 sport back but saw this on a random drive and took it for a spin. Love at first drive! Watched your video and am now buying one this weekend. If a non-committal car enthusiast is still loving it, you’ve done your job.
really great review. I I only kept my gla 45 for around 18 months too. The boot was too small. From 2017 at least, the gla had 3 modes, comfort, sport and sport plus. Or if you got the drivers pack you had race mode too. Sport mode is that bridge you are missing on yours. SPort plus is the mania mode . Ido miss the engine sound from the GLA 45. I went for a c63s estate because of the biger boot. The C63 is sort of like a mix between a GLA and an M2. It gives M2 thrills but gives you an epic engine . I do miss my gla a bit sometimes!though the amount of fun i have in the c63 is on another level because of how it struggles to not spin the wheels even in comfort mode. If the tyres arent fullyw arm and you do anything but feather the throttle , you will spin the wheels. I used to spin the wheels on the gla when it was cold and wet or when I floored it on the roundabouts but never like a c63. the gla has this ability to put its power down flawlessly. you can put your foot down in any gear and rev it up to red line and get your pops and crackles and whip like sound on upshifts. the c63 you simply can't rev it up at low speeds. it won't go anywhere , it'll just spin spin spin it's wheels. that's the big difference. the c63 engine does sound great but the opportunities to rev the car up are quite limited. you have to be going at a decent pace and then can't floor it in anything lower than 5th gear unless you want the rear end to be cut loose from the asphalt. the car does go straight though and the traction control and lsd are epic. But that's the difference between the gla and the c63. the gla allows you to use most of its power pretty much all the time and you can rev high in each gear before shifting . makes for a more usable engine. I would say lastly that the ride could be slightly less firm in the gla. overall the gla is a fab car through and through. if you get a good deal on it , it is hard to beat at its price point. I got an optioned up brand new 2017 model year one for 43k with a msrp of gbp52k so I was happy with brand new but you could get an even better deal on a used , sure.
So happy you do these vids on the GLA45. I'm planning to get a 2015 next March (My 30th Bday) and have watched basically every review of them. Glad you keep updating your experience. I'll be coming from an 07 MINI Cooper S which I've loved every minute of driving, But at over 10 years old, it's starting to show its age. I live in California and have been doing nationwide searches checking prices every so often. I like the idea of flying somewhere and roadtripping back. I'm looking to get the Designo Mountain grey, it's sooo beautiful in person. Keep up the good vids and master garage collection.
Thanks Richard. i had a 2003 Mini Cooper S. I understand wanting something different. Build quality a lot better on the Mercedes. Thank you for watching and subscribing to my channel. My GLA 45 might be for sale soon, need a larger car for my new job
Great work Glenn. I’ve purchased a 15 gla45 and really used your channel for some great research. Mine is almost identical spec as yours plus I got sunroof option. CPO with 6400 miles for 43k. CPO got me 4 years bumper to bumper/unlimited miles warranty from Mercedes not 3rd party plan. Nothing I test drove gave more smiles per dollar than this little amg. FYI I have a full size Range Rover for the times I need something bigger or more capable in the mountains and snow. If you’re looking for a larger vehicle it’s a different variant of enthusiast vehicle also to consider.
David how are you enjoying your new ride? I looking at trading in my 2010 Audi A5 for a 2015 GLA45 It's been a great car but some silly little annoying things make it a pain in the ass for serious Canadian winters.
Michael Krisa it’s a great little car. At 6’4”/220lbs I fit tight in the performance seats but it’s still comfortable for anything less than 2 hours. Both my 12and 6 year old kids fit fine behind me and the hatch is way bigger than it looks from the outside. True useful family vehicle. With 4 doors. Unlike the TTrs or 911. I would have prob opted for an RS3 hatch if we could get them in the USA. Then again it’s a big price up. I almost went with a M3 but I liked the AMG interior better. C63 felt as big as my Range Rover. The only major con for me is the paddle shift. I’m trying hard to like this transmission but it lets the rest of the car down. Id rather have a true manual and clutch. In the winter I would still take my Range Rover. No comparison. Heated windshield, heated steering wheel, LOW range. I can go almost anywhere.
Have to agree with you David - I've been driving standard my entire life - paddle shifters strike me as something for a video game vs a performance vehicle. Thanks for the reply!

Just purchased an approved used GLA45 AMG 2014 from Mercedes showroom. Its got 50k on the clock. I hope I can keep it for a long time. It is not good on fuel at all. I mean, I have seen people reviewing G63 and the GLA 45 is not far off in fuel efficiency. I will be using this as my daily car.
@@GlennsCarCollection wow!! Cant wait for it. Following your feed already. I had my GLA45 debadged to disguise it. People can still tell its not a regular car. I get strange looks from regular GLA drivers haha.

Hey Glenn the challenge would be buying a US car and bringing it to Canada. Between duties, exchange rate and taxes I could probably get a 2017 here for the same amount.
Nice video, nice car. But I'd hoped you would talk about the cost of ownership. I tend to keep a car a few years (my current car is approaching it's 5th year) so one thing I'm concerned about is reliability. For instance, I've read that BMWs are excellent cars if you lease them, but ownership can be downright $$$$, plus the cliff-dive depreciation of that marque. So how about your GLA?
Great comment. It has been 100% reliable. I think new car depreciation is steep so i would buy one slightly used. Services so far are once a year or 10k miles. They are basically a glorified oil change. Then just the cost of tires/brakes. OEM tires should last about 25k miles.

Regarding your comment on MB's marketing of the car...I actually believe they have done a phenomenal job. They market it as an SUV, but they know full well that it is a hatchback given the stance and performance aspects. The owner then gets SUV insurance premiums instead of hot hatch insurance premiums. Only those who truly know what the car is will benefit. I owned a 2015, traded it in, now I'm in the market for another one. Stupid me

Thanks for the review Glenn! New subscriber and I found your review very helpful. I've been looking at picking up a used GLA45 to replace my Focus ST in a year or two. Good to know that the engine in the GLA45 is as good as you say. Based on the fact you didn't mention much on reliability, that you haven't had too many issues? I will say that costs of maintenance does make me a little anxious moving from the Ford to the Merc.
Glenn, good job. Congrats on your new position. I’m still considering the gla 45 amg but have reliability concerns and repair costs. I know that you had the cla 45 also, combined, what is your honest opinion on the issues that you had with these vehicles especially the gla 45 amg. I know that you don’t keep cars for long, I’m just worried about the reliability and running costs after the cpo warranty runs out. I’m also looking at a golf r.
A while back, I had a mouse or something build a nest or whatever and it clogged up the blower with a bunch of debris. Made the fan noticeably loud. Mercedes cleaned it for free as part of an oil change, but said I'd have to pay the next time. Now the same thing is happening again. If anyone knows how I can clean the debris out simply, I'd appreciate it. I can remove the cabin filter on my own, but can't figure out how to access the blower. No UA-cam video on it for my vehicle. 2018 GLA AMG 45. There is an airbag or 2 in that general area, so I'm concerned about messing around and causing damage.
@@GlennsCarCollection I have to pay either way. All I was looking for was a simple response on how to access the blower without doing something wrong & blowing the airbag. A simple 20 second explanation. Then it's on me to make it happen...or not. In the Covid era, you would think they would be a bit more accommodating. I *LOVE* the car, but I'm a bit miffed by their greed and lack of help. I was originally told their is "NO WAY" to access the Mercedes technical instructions. But apparently you can pay a fee to access the same system the techs use... Condensed email response from Mercedes: "For customers that work on their own vehicles we do offer a technical website, fee based. STAR Tek Info is an official Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC site for hosting service and repair technical documentation for Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The repair process section is called WIS (Workshop Information System), which is the same system our dealerships use. We invite you to visit the website at www.startekinfo.com. We feel this website would benefit customers who work on their own vehicles. There is a nominal charge for daily, weekly, monthly or yearly access; however this is the best information you will find for your car."
I have never seen one of these in real life in the Midwest U.S. until I got one. I *like* that it's rare+unique. I'm glad they *don't* mass-market it. Question regarding the winter tires... The local Mercedes dealer says you can't get smaller winter wheels+tires on the 2017 GLA 45 AMG due to the "brake size." If anyone has some expertise on the subject, I'd love to hear their take.
i got smaller through Tire Rack. if they don't have for GLA 45, CLA 45 wheels/tires will fit. I used my winter set let over from my CLA 45 AMG for my GLA 45 AMG
hello @champstar9669 I have 18" rims from Mercedes, and they also sold me the rubber, thin....215 or 225 but they are AMG rims as the tolerance is tight with the 13.5" RED brake callipers.... its a performance BEAST... you want to have the BEST since you bought the BEST....
Do you still have this car? I was thinking about either getting a 2018 M2 DCT or the GLA45 as a daily.. which would you recommend? I have a 1996 Miata as my second/track car as well.
Gorgeous car I think it’s one of the best daily drivers. I’m kind of interested between a c63, a Lexus RCF, and a gla45 amg what would be your pick for a daily driver ? And keep in mind I’d be keeping the car for at least 5 years
I think C63 or GLA 45 AMG. I choose GLA 45 because it had better handling, I also wanted all wheel drive and it also get really good gas mileage unlike the C63. If you want a GLA 45, buy mine, its for sale. Email me at GlennsCarCollection@gmail.com if interested.
Do you have the A45 Amg in the U.S.? Over here in europe the Gla is also marketed as a small suv but essentially that's because the A45 Amg is considered to be the hatch.
Glenn, good job. How do you process money transaction when selling your cars or buying one especially when you still owe money (financed/loan), is there a document kit or third party to do this? Also where do you sell/buy your vehicles online?
I usually give or receive certified bank checks or wire money, no third party, just your local bank. I typically sell or buy on forums or cars.com or autotrader
That sounds good. I am 6'2 tall, do u think this AMG gonna fits me? I drove my friend's CLA45 it was so small and I couldn't sit in very well... I'm currently looking for an pre-owned performance SUV under 36k, do u have some recommendations besides GLA45 and Audi SQ5? Thanks!
Glenn, I've been giving these a good hard look lately. Would you suggest getting a '16 instead for the improved transmission (programming or gearing?) or was that done in '17 and newer?
I think the 15 is the most value for the money. The 16 had the improved trans but I drove both back to back and honestly think the difference isn't noticeable or worth the extra coin. Mine might be for sale, I need a bigger car to take one of these real estate jobs.
Good to know, thx. I've had a deposit on an '18 Golf R for what seems like forever and I am getting a creeping feeling of pre-purchase remorse, lol. Mostly because of the de-contenting the US R's get- dearth of color choices, awful Englishtown wheels, still no sunroof option, etc. This car seems to tick all of the boxes for me. If/ when I am ready to pull the trigger, I'll hit you up. edit: Yours has no pano sunroof either! As I was...
Glenns Car Collection Hey Glenn, do you think this would be a good car for toting around clients for real estate ? I’m only 18 but am starting to take my classes for my license in California and really want something practical but also fast. I was really interested in a RCF but now that doesn’t really make sense with becoming a real estate agent. I know you are getting a bigger car for real estate so is this not big enough ?
@@ordinarygamer1353 i hate to break your heart but I would recommend something bigger than the gla for shuttling clients for real estate. But as a daily. Looks amazing.
I love how it looks. I would love to drive one. Its a Lexus, so of course it will be reliable. I think its more luxury car than sports sedan, but that could be better for most people.
KB24 dude! I’ve been looking at gsf too man , I’m not really sure what I want right now but I love the way the gla45 looks the one I found is a apple green color which is pretty nice just not too sure yet!
I bought mine with low mileage so mainly just oil changes. If you don't modify it, I don't think it will be too bad. Find a good independent mechanic who works on German cars
Not sure if that is a good price in your country but I do like the 11k miled. CLA 45 and GLA 45 very similar, for me, GLA gave me bigger trunk and back seat head room but I owned both, and both are very similar
So I know I had said I was looking into buying this car, but as with almost anything life gets in the way. I still love this car and it's at the top of my list for my next car. Although I'm curious to see how the new BMW x2 fairs to it (I know not the same in power), I drive a really fuel efficient Mazda 3 hatch and when it dies....I'm pretty sure I'm getting a CPO 45 AMG.
I don’t understand why people like you have to make their video WHILE DRIVING? The recording of you driving wouldn’t make the video any more interesting, and all I can see is you’re taking your eyes off the road and distracted while risking other road users. AMG 45. There is an airbag or 2 in that general area, so I'm concerned
about messing around and causing damage.
Sorry to hear. Not sure how to clean it up. Try the forums, maybe someone else had a similar problem
$135 for dealer to fix. Printed out instructions for future reference at least. So I have those now.
I sold it for the Audi S8. M2 and GLA45 both make great dailys. Do you need AWD, if not M2, if you need AWD, then GLA 45
it depends where you live i live in london and bumps and potholes in the road it would be hard to live with a m2 bmw
Hi Nice User review. Can you comment on the reliability and maintenance part please. Thanks
I sold the car shortly after this video. In the 2 years I had it I only had to do oil changes
Unfortunately No, we do not get the A45 AMG here. Just the GLA 45.
Good review! Just wondering how much is the maintenance gonna be for every 5000 miles?
Maintenance so far (3 services 13k miles) has been just glorified oil changes. You can prepay maintenance at the Mercedes dealer for a discount
Glenns Car Collection this would be my daily driver by the way. Would really appreciate it you taking a look at he comment, have a good one !
@@ordinarygamer1353 i hate to break your heart but I would recommend something bigger than the gla for shuttling clients for real estate. But as a daily. Looks amazing.
Hey guys, is the gla45 amg reliable car? Say at 50-70k miles?
it should be, as long as the engine wasn't modified. Get a good prepurchase inspection at a Mercedes dealer
Thanks
dream car
Its a great car, hope you get one soon. Check out the other videos of my GLA 45 AMG on this channel
I watched a few reviews on this car, nobody ever mentions the stereo.
its adequate
Found a fully loaded 2016 gla for 47k with 1800 miles. That a decent price ?
yes offer like 45 lol
buy mine. I will need a larger car for these real estate jobs.
Glenns Car Collection gleen curious what you think of the GS F thinking of that for my next car.
I’m thinking of getting one, but what is the maintenance costs like?
I bought mine with low mileage so mainly just oil changes. If you don't modify it, I don't think it will be too bad. Find a good independent mechanic who works on German cars
Hey Glenn, I'm buying a GLA 45 2015 for £30k with 11k miles on it. Is that worth it? I can't decide to either go for a CLA 45 or a GLA 45 :(
Not sure if that is a good price in your country but I do like the 11k miled. CLA 45 and GLA 45 very similar, for me, GLA gave me bigger trunk and back seat head room but I owned both, and both are very similar
Would it fit me at 6’-8” with a car seat behind?
probably not. Could you put the car seat behind the passenger seat ?
I’m buyin a cla 45 for 27000 with 38k on the dash. Worth it ? This is before taxes
2014
sounds like a good deal. Just make sure to get it inspected unless it is CPO
Can you help me with some place where I can buy the rear wing?
you can get the wing directly from Mercedes.
How long do you think this engine will last?
It should last 150,000 miles or more if maintained property. Thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel
I think the X2 is more of an SUV, to my the GLA 45 is a hot hatch. thank you for watching and subscribing to my channel
ok
I don’t understand why people like you have to make their video WHILE DRIVING? The recording of you driving wouldn’t make the video any more interesting, and all I can see is you’re taking your eyes off the road and distracted while risking other road users. Your contents are good. Just say it with a shot of your nice car. No need to video and drive.
Unemployed and driving an AMG, drugdealer?
Watch the rest of his videos. Successful commercial real estate broker. Drug dealers tend to not post videos of themselves driving their cars on YT.
looks like video made 1997
It's better than the A class, much more useful boot
Good point
