    UPDATE: I am no longer running the risers, they moved around too much for my style of riding (wheelies, stoppies, etc.) Also you DO NOT need to re-route the cables if you are just changing handlebars. Thank you all for the support!

      Attention Deficit thanks for the heads up man, that cable rerouting looked like the worst part of the job. Really want the protapers, that almost scared me off if the risers were necessary

    • @Subi_doo
      @Subi_doo 5 років тому

      Attention Deficit was it your risers moving? Or was it the soft rubber clamp bushings moving? I used protaper bars and thought my clamps where loose when stopping hard, come to find out it was not the bars being loose. Replaced with MNNTHBX aluminum bushings and it’s solid 🤟

      I'm 6'4" as well, have you gone with a different set of risers? Or did you just go with the SE protapers with no risers?

    Did this to mine a long time ago, just enjoy your videos! My stock bar ends were stubborn as hell. One came out with a philips and a impact drive the other striped, had to just squeeze the whole bar end with channel locks and twist it off. Thankfully didn't have to drill them.

    for those Allen bolts.. I would have tried a allen head socket and if it was too tough. I would have went with a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter and put a 1/2" ratchet to it. But you right.. always good to use high quality allen wrenches or sockets so nothing strips. Awesome video btw.

    Great video! I've always wanted to see what a grom with some pro tapers on it would look like. You should invest in a hex head socket set. You can get them in 3/8" or 1/2" drive. I rarely use allen keys anymore. Would have made that handlebar removal a piece of cake.

    You can use an impact driver on bolts held in by any sort of thread locker. Just make sure you don't use the impact driver to tighten it because you're rip the head of most bolts with one of those or break the part you're driving the bolt into.

    I usually use Allen head bits on a ratchet, for the stubborn ones.
    Also, I saw in another vid, a good way to line the switch housing holes up was too fit the new grips on, wrap a width of duct tape around where the housing goes, maybe 3 or so layers tall, press fit the housing on, hard enough to make an indent. The tape should hold the pilot bit in place enough when drilling the pilot hole. Then just retap it.

    Is it possible to change the throttle, break cables without rerouting cables, may be bigger bike cables. After changing to the longer handle bars.

  • @Subi_doo
    @Subi_doo 5 років тому +1

    It’s called an Allen hex socket, extension and a ratchet👍 you were using “t handle” hex which aren’t to great for busting bolts loose as you found out, better use for them is low torque things.

    How tall are You? Getting my Grom next week and being 6 feet probably rising the bars. How did you like your set up? (Feel, handling, ergonomics comfort) great video

    • @AdventureDaily
      @AdventureDaily  6 років тому

      I'm 6'4 like I mentioned in the video, I loved this setup but eventually did away with the risers. I recommend removing the bushings in the triple clamp if you use the risers so they feel more solid.
