Im Korean but grew up with Cambodians here in the U.S. Great people and culture! Ke Thieu, Bai Cha, Ya Hon, Cha Kreung, Bok Lahong, Amok, Kaw, Salaw Machu, and so much more. Love the food!!!!
I say salaw machew is a cambodian national dish. as a kid growing up hanging out with friends every house hold grandma or mom would make salaw machew. no cap.
@krnpowr same weather, obviously. The food was difficult to me. I think they used difficult spices. I enjoyed Thai food more however the seafood in Cambodia is to die for. Culture is similar.
@kakurakh7365 I don't know the reason why, but I loved the food in Thailand more. Maybe it's something about the ingredients used. The street food was not for me. Seim reap in Cambodia was awesome. Pub Street is a must visit. Lots of good restaurants.
Wow I'm Southeast Asian from Singapore but Cambodian cuisine has always been very off the radar and unfamiliar to me. In fact I don't think there are any places in Singapore serving Cambodian cuisine despite how geographically close we are. Interesting to see that the food is actually quite unique, healthy and very very colourful with the use of flowers. This just made me want to visit for the food. Kuy teav / hu tieu is definitely a dish likely created by Teochew Chinese migrants in Cambodia though
Correct. Cambodian cuisine is sort of unfamiliar, but its existence would be unique in its way. I do appreciate to see Singaporean cuisine comes into existence in Phnom Penh. Will try your cuisine one day in Cambodia or SG heheh. To some extent, Kuy Teav is a dish that is sort of influenced by Chinese migrants in Cambodia long time agoooo.
Yes its pretty great and similar to Thai cuisine. If you're in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap you'll have access to a massive assortment of types of food from around the world
Cambodia is easily one of the most amazing countries I've ever been. Such a tragic history which wasn't really all that long ago. People were so nice and it was the first place I got to experience Bioluminescent Plankton which i'll never ever forget. Got to try some of the best food I've ever had, but also some of the worst lol. Only complaint would've been the Cicadas, I swear they come with megaphones over there.
Man, I saw you made videos about Cambodia food in the past but I felt that’s not real Cambodia food. Now you come back with this episode, I can confirm that you are hitting a right spot ( real Khmer cuisine ). Congrats 🎉
Even if the Demand is so high given the mass tourism, Cambodia still have cheap but very delicious and traditoonal cuisines. This is what the Philippines to learn from Cambodia.
SONNY! I love your show! I lived in Cambodia for years. It’s such a beautiful and underrated country imo. Please keep coming back and showing more about khmer food culture and history which is often overlooked!
This is the 'Best Ever Food Review' style I fell in love with years ago! This is raw, talented, amazing editing and storytelling, and most of all, taking risks in conflict areas to tell a food story ... Keep up the amazing work, Sonny! 👏👏👏
I don't know how many people are aware of this but there currently is a somewhat online culture war going on between Thailand and Cambodia. They keep claiming that one stole some culture from another and I would like to use the opportunity of this video exploring Cambodian food (as a Thai person myself) to spread awareness and to say that I appreciate both Thai and Cambodian culture, each have their own unique food. I do not wish for the two countries to go to war over some cultural claiming.
Yeah, as far as I can see they're different enough already, with all the hundreds years of their own developments after influencing each others for centuries, since the fall of Khmer Empire. even if there are some similarities it can't be helped. CN, KR, JP are somewhat similar as well. if they're saying who copied who then look(far) back at India LOL
Cambodian foods are underestimated and unappreciated enough from society. We have so much more to offer! Thank you to you and your team for putting together this heartwarming video. ❤
I use to go to this Cambodian restaurant that was 30 mins away from me in Vancouver, BC, Canada. For some reason, I always felt inclined to go all the way there despite the distance even though my family wanted KBBQ, Dimsum, Sushi, Italian food or a nice BC seafood. miss that place near Victoria and Nanaimo Dr.
Wow, I really love this episode! Thanks, Sonny, for reviewing the food in Cambodia! I grew up in Cambodia where my family ran a wedding food business for over 30 years and I got to eat a great variety of delicious food. Love all the Cambodian cuisine! The Kuy Teav Phnom Penh, Nom Banh Chok, Bok La'hong, Amok, Numpang Bate, Cha Kreung, Somlor Machu and Borbor Kreung etc... So yum yum, now I live in the USA I'm not able to eat some authentic Cambodian food like in Cambodia.
Being from a place where myself and my brother are the only Cambodians around, this video excites me. Seeing other Cambodians is like seeing a rare pokemon.
Cambodia's got my heart. There is always a special connect between me and this country. The friendliest people, the good food, the amazing culture, the beautiful places I have been to make Cambodia my second home. Thanks Sonny for another best food tour video.
🤍 Love how Sonny collects the chefs along the way to enjoy the final meal at the end. The quality of this show continues to get better & better 🎉 The food looks delicious!!! Great work BEFRS Team 🙏🏼
I love this video. I just fell in love with Cambodia because of this. This video also takes me back to your videos before pandemic, when your following was small. Great job Sonny!
Yayyyy Cambodia, I have been following you for a long time, and I hope to see you visit Cambodia. Thanks for the visit, and showing the food! I commented and liked the video before even watching it.
Wish we could have this kind of breakfast here. Sounds more nourishing than bread and eggs. So much protein and veggies and a savoury broth to warm up. Very curious also about snail porridge, looks outstanding! This kind of videos are very dynamic and fun!
This is why I always support you, Sonny. Good introduction I like that there is a mix of humor, creating a happy atmosphere. In addition to discussing the food, you conducted interviews with locals to gain insight into and a voice for both the cuisine and the locals themselves. This effectively told the story of the food by bringing viewers into the lives of the chefs, cooks, and locals. Thank you for showing Cambodia to the world, especially Chef Nak and other Cambodians who participated.
I can't remember the first time I came across Sonny's channel but I've watched every single video and I've learned so much. The content quality is top class.
Absolutely amazing. Cambodia has a place in my heart, and your content deserves more views than it gets... Such a big and wonderful team you have, and so consistent with the quality.
Philippines is the only country that dont have such ingridients. So people just eat Pares and other dishes that even a 5 year old can cook blind folded. Cambodian food is just glorious.
I love this guy. He has a very 2000s TV, can-do kinda attitude to his narration that makes me feel like I'm a teenager watching Travel Channel late at night all over again.
The central market is right next to my house and I usually go out and eating at the market, especially all the food is so captivated and my favorite is kuy teav Phnom Penh and boil pig organ and meatball 🤤😋
You hit hard in this video Sonny! Well done! You got most of my fave Cambodian dishes. The only one missing is you need to try Cambodian hot pot. Sending love and support! ❤
Sonny deserves a lot of credit for what he does. He is so respectful with other cultures and really enjoys the culinary experience. Honestly I think he os the only person that I know bringing people together. Honestly amazing 🤩
Its amazing how clean their central market is..i cant see any flies on the food and fresh meat or garbage on the floors and on the road..unlike any othee countries that Sunny had visited! Great country👍👍
14:38 I wonder if the chef misspoke about the age of the roasted pig. I think he meant to say it was 7 weeks old and not 7 months. At 7 months, a hog would normally be 250+ lbs.

I really like the last chef's take on expensive/fancy dining. It's less about survival and more about an experience. There is a phenomenal steakhouse on the waterfront in the city where I live. But, as wonderful as it is, even if I could afford to eat there every day, I wouldn't. If I did, it would stop being a special experience for me, which is the main reason I am willing to shell out $200-300 whenever I do eat there.
YAY! Cambodia! In my opinion after eating Cha Kreung pork spareribs, I believe it could be a top contender for Cambodia's national dish. I was just totally blown away from all the flavors.

Their food must be super nutritious. I think it contributes to why Asians don't age fast and why they live healthier lives in old age.
My family live healthy bcs they ate veggies abd fruits too,i dont think eating blood cake and chicken feet are healthier than ussual meat
Also asians tend to keep more physically active until later in life, whether it’s actually like a job or just house chores
I strongly believe so. My mom is 60 and my two grandmas are 88 and 90. All of them are healthy and have no illness.
