Oh to live in a climate like yours where cars don't rot before your eyes! My split screen moggy didn't have any jacking points, or decent place to jack it up left! It was like net curtaining after I stripped it. Sadly, never finished it, had to let it go for various reasons. Always good to see the Mrs involved 👍
That would be a sad ending. I'm very lucky that this is in such good shape even with our favourable climate. I'm glad I've finally found a project the Mrs is interested in. Cheers
Well Mr B, this is taking me back over 30 years to the first time I restored my 1970 Traveller, I'm now in the middle of doing it again! Believe me, so far you have been extremely lucky firstly finding such a decent car to start on and secondly with a relatively easy strip down. I ran out of juicy swearwords struggling with all the badly rusted nuts and bolts---that was in the UK---salty roads in winter. Great series, enjoying it immensely, thanks for sharing.
Fantastic, I'm glad this series is bringing back fond memories. Stripping the driver's side is proving more of a challenge, the nuts and bolts seem to be a lot more difficult to get out. I'm getting there slowly though. Thanks for watching
Good job there, and with good assistance! Overall the car looks super solid. Glad to hear that parts availability is good, but even if you had to make some of those panels by hand, they appear to be mostly flat and easy enough to create. I'm jealous.. I live in the SMA part of the world, where rust is usually a bit more extensive.
I'm glad there are some rust spots to help me develop new skills. It would be a boring project if nothing needed fixing! I couldn't cope with SMA amounts of rust. Cheers
Blimey mate that bodyshell looks pretty sound. You can hear the quality of the metal when you ding it. Its why they were pretty heavy for a small car. It is certainly worth getting the shell and all the panels to a shotblasting outfit and then etch prime it. Beats hell out of wire brushes and you end up with a sound base for paint. I am doing a '78 Mini 1000 and it worked for me.... Nice work though and I hope you have fun but you were VERY lucky with the wing bolts!
It's very impressive how well it has held up. Shotblasting is an option but I don't like outsourcing work! I'll probably start doing it by hand then get fed up with it and send it to the blasters... The rear wing on the other side is proving a bit more stubborn to get off. Cheers!
Badgertronix Yeap i did thanks very much has Been hard not to munch on anything, waiting for another sticker to arrive and I’ll do a mail call video 👍👍👍
How much did the body flex after the doors were removed? (This car looks reasonable sound, but if the chassis's a filigree of rust, the doors may be the only things keeping the car from folding in half.)
Just a thought, use stainless nuts and bolts for putting back the cill finishers, and MIG welding just takes a bit of practice, I found gasless, flux cored "MIG" is a bit too fierce for bodywork, I use a cheap outfit and a pub cylinder and it always works fine for me. Good luck.
There will be stainless nuts and bolts as well as plenty of rust proofing on the finished product! I have a few welding friends so I should be able to get hold of a better setup and some hands on advice. I will definitely be doing the work myself though, all part of the learning and enjoying. Cheers!
She’s in amazingly good condition , the ones I used to work on the rear springs were always in the back seat , ie gone through the floors ! Great cars though , used to get mine upto 92 mph how far the clock was out I don’t know !
All of the important bits are nice and solid. Hopefully I can give it some performance with the engine rebuild. Not sure I'd want to do 92mph with drum brakes all round!
Unless you absolutely have too, I would not recommend you removing the rear windscreen, they are a pig to get out and an even bigger pig to put back. The problem seems to be caused by the screen rubbers being thicker than the originals, so you have to exert a lot of pressure to push them home, original glass is getting harder to find. The rusty panel on the inner wing is called the flitch. Welding is not the dark arts that many will have you believe, practice makes perfect and cleanliness is king. If it helps, this has to be the best example I have seen, solid inner wings? unheard of in the UK. Good luck, looking forward to more.
Thank you for the advice. I had heard about the issues with the replacement rear window seals. The current one is cracked and perished and I think it would spoil the look of the finished car if I didn't replace it. I shall consider the options. As for welding, I can make metal stick to metal but I only have a gasless mig which is less than ideal for bodywork. I'm working on a better solution. Even for an NZ car I'm amazed at how solid it all is. I have a late 70s Holden that has been on the road more recently that is in a far worse state with holes everywhere.
Do yourself a favor Johno and get a proper impact universal...I've seen those ones do ferocious damage when they let go..All in all that old bugger doesn't look in too bad of shape...Someone was real pleased with that repair at the time I'll bet...Time for some sneaky product placement mate.?.
Push and peel the windscreen rubbers from inside out use a screwdriver to help move the rubber as you use a bit of pressure on the glass with your feet the glass is pretty strong but just pressure don’t kick it
Just a tip don’t grease the steering lower trunion if they are badly worn they may pop out causing the wheel to fold under the car actually had this happen luckily at a very slow speed
Just another tip to remove windscreen and rear window ,remove chrome insert in rubber this should make rubber pliable enough to squeeze rubber into channel where chrome strip was and loosen glass
Good job Jonathan! Digging the music lol I feel like I was at a strip club for cars which is apt 👍😂😂😂 Oh and that was a quality repair right there lol superb workmanship ☺️😂😂
Haha I didn't think of it like that but that's exactly what was happening! I'm not sure who could do work like that and be happy with it at the end. Cheers!
Make sure you check out the rest of the videos on the Morris Minor restoration. Thanks for watching!

I keep seeing more tools that I have needed but did not know existed ( tool pro nut extractor ). It is getting expensive watching this channel
Nice to see Mrs B lending a hand and the body is in great shape for its age
Are we talking about the car or Mrs B? 😂😂
Badgertronix either way what makes you happy 😃 lol
😂😂
I'm currently doing this on my wife's moggy. I too haven't done this before, so I'll be watching these if I get stuck. 👍😀
Nice teamwork with Mrs Badger. Surprised to hear you can still get body parts. Good stuff 👍
There's a huge aftermarket for these cars. Cheers buddy, she has been enjoying getting her hands dirty 😊
"Surprised to hear you can still get body parts" They still make them brand new! in Sri Lanka I believe
Nice to have a Mrs Badger to help!
Defintiely! We don't always get to do much together so I'm glad she's keen on this project
It's really in good shape.
It really is. Not much welding for you to cringe at 😂
Such a cool project!
Thanks Spanky, it sure is!
@@Badgertronix And I can guarantee you it's in better shape than my 66 Volkswagon Beetle!
I can only imagine how rusty that might be. Enjoy!
What a beautiful car!
Just wait until it is finished 😎

LoL that car is almost as simple as a Renault 4cv 😏...we like it
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
My mum used to have one of those. I want one!
Good show mate.
Cheers mate

Ha!! sneaked up on ya bud
That's funny I was just thinking I have not heard from Badertronix for some time. Wonder how Morris is coming along. Thanks for another video.
Sorry mate I've been on holiday 😎 Should hopefully start to make more regular progress from now on. Cheers
Want one! So cool!
Should be a fun car once it's finished 😎
Just subbed, i may or may not have just found myself a moggie in the middle of the Canadian Prairies, no one knows yet, shhhhhh!!!!
awesome! Welcome
Nice to get an extra hand mate 😊... She didn’t look to bad for the age, apart from couple spots as expected 👍👍👍
She has offered to recover the seats too! It has a lot of potential and hopefully I can get it done in a reasonable time frame. Cheers mate
Badgertronix she’s a keeper mate 😊😉, I have to show this video to my wife 🤣🤣, Congrats again 👰🤵👍
Haha thanks mate. Did you get the package I sent?
Badgertronix Yeap i did thanks very much has Been hard not to munch on anything, waiting for another sticker to arrive and I’ll do a mail call video 👍👍👍
Awesome mate. Our post has been shocking recently so wanted to make sure you got it 😎

That is a car I could have fun with. Nice.
It's a satisfying car to work on. Nice and simple

Muy buen trbajo te felicito
If you can get new panel should be able to get screen rubbers
Unless you absolutely have too, I would not recommend you removing the rear windscreen, they are a pig to get out and an even bigger pig to put back. Ha ha I never mentioned stopping !

thats called the A post. where the bodge filler is. not much rust though as you are not in the uk. and in a drier country. good job.
Thanks for the info. It is a great part of the world to run a classic
Those sill finishers are a pig of a job. I think I had to angle grind about half of my bolts off too.
I only tried to undo the first one that seemed to be in the best shape. Quickly gave up and went for the grinder.
I was wondering how long you were going to breathe all that dust and dirt. Nice job, so far.
Just a bit of old mud from clean, green, New Zealand 😂
To remove the windscreen just cut the rubbers and then lift the glass out!
I hope it's that easy! Thanks
Push and peel the windscreen rubbers from inside out use a screwdriver to help move the rubber as you use a bit of pressure on the glass with your feet the glass is pretty strong but just pressure don’t kick it
Thanks for the tips. I think the biggest issue I'll have is getting the perished rubber out.
Cut the inner lip of the rubber off with a utility knife then push out with foot power
William Schleicher think he wants to save the rubbers
They're beyond saving, I just don't want to break the glass
Just a tip don’t grease the steering lower trunion if they are badly worn they may pop out causing the wheel to fold under the car actually had this happen luckily at a very slow speed
I had heard about trunion issues. I may well put some new ones in to be safe
Just another tip to remove windscreen and rear window ,remove chrome insert in rubber this should make rubber pliable enough to squeeze rubber into channel where chrome strip was and loosen glass
Does Morris Minors have 2 subframes like Mini's?
I don't think so
No, the Minor is unibody.
Get chrome strip out of window runner and cut the rubber with a sharp knife .tyres need changing for radial tyres
Thanks for the advice
Found you down here too, lol
Hi good stuff just subbed .:-)
Good job Jonathan! Digging the music lol I feel like I was at a strip club for cars which is apt 👍😂😂😂 Oh and that was a quality repair right there lol superb workmanship ☺️😂😂
Haha I didn't think of it like that but that's exactly what was happening!
I'm not sure who could do work like that and be happy with it at the end. Cheers!
Oh by the way try as hard as possible to remove the chrome windscreen surround without damaging it as they are not available new.
Copy, will do 👍 Cheers
You might be able to kick the windscreens out if you're lucky.
That's the plan. Cheers
Jealous of your impact gun.... have to get me one someday. There's no way the wife would be out helping me take a car to bits.
The impact gun, extractor sockets and angle grinder made this job so much more pleasant. Not to mention the help from the wife 😊
Charlie wares uk have new windscreen rubbers
Thanks. I think there are a few options
If this was in the UK it would have disappeared by now.
Very true
Lucky moggy that got away from wet UK
One of many that were built here 😀
That's not rust. It barely rates as patina!
