In this video, I'll show you how I put up some shelves without drilling or nails into walls or studs. By using 3m Command picture frame strips, you can remove the shelf without damaging the wall. The shelf attaches via the command velcro-like strips and can easily be detached for re-positioning. The strips can then be removed from the wall without leaving any holes.
I use this method to put action figures and other small items. Heavy items are not recommended. I estimate it can probably hold up to 5lbs of stuff.

I honestly can't tell if we're on the same page bc that was a cryptic Evanescence joke, but..

1 pt Me: I have a therapist, coping skills, and a good attitude
I used command strips to hold up a Dyson stick vacuum as well ... its good for very light weight items only ...
This shelf holding is better than my relationship
Woah
Cheer up buddy👍
Stay blesd
FYI the shelves have been redesigned, they now have a full recess on that back no place to mount strips
Adam Hatfield yup. I was wondering why it said ‘new’ on the site. Went for pickup and got home and realized they don’t have the little block that makes it flush with the wall.
😥
Very nice and I hope you are doing well and wish you all the best.
Thank you.
Strong enough to hold plants?
...or you can patch up the holes when you move out...it's not as expensive as them there strips.
This is my idea
what is the total weight that able to hold?
Good for decoration not for putting something. It will cause u sudden nervous when it drop off!
Does this hold up?
Are these still holding up 6 years down the track?
Yes they are. I haven’t taken them down yet.
I bought an ikea lack shelf and noticed it doesn't have that little chunk in the middle that you can nail the 3m strips into. Is there different kinds of lack shelves? I got the exact same square white looking one but the back part just looks different.
Hi. I think the newer ones have a gap now. you'll have to add a piece of wood to make it thicker. Some reason Ikea changed it.
I need mirror u hv
can u do it without a corner if ur adding one thing on it?
does the adhesive peel paint?
you're a cuber!!!!!
is it okay if not in a corner?
+Franshine Peñalosa it has to be in a corner.

The way he tells us to not put the shelf not on a single wall but in a corner, kinda sounds like he learned this the hard way...
+Daniel Russell lol you caught me. ;)
I have then in both ways in another and just one side. If u do it right, you at good to go.

😂😂😂
damn I was about to ignore all that.
This is awesome!! TY!
Another tip: 3M says that the strips are designed to be vertical and they are MUCH STRONGER that way. They suggest cutting off the tops of long strips to use them vertically instead of rotating them 90 degrees.
Can you link to where they say this?
Wait why? Genuinely wondering
I’ve used these strips for a very heart picture and it’s been successful for over 2 years. You have to purchase by weight suggestions. They have the as much as 70lbs in weight and think even heavier
In IKEA right
@@toxicteezy8310 walmart
what do you call it? the strips
I've never thought to nail the strips. Very good idea!
Before you do this hack, do a proper assessment of the surface you are mounting the strips to. The strips are rated to hold a certain amount of weight adhered to a solid surface, but you're most likely mounting this on painted drywall. The wall surface may rip off well before the mounting strips. If you are renting, definitely make sure to take these down before someone else moves in. The next person will not necessarily know how you mounted these to the wall and they may assume its stronger than it is.
All my velcro adhesives fall off the wall after a month or two lol. No matter how light the item is too. I have one 9kg hook holding a novelty hat that weighs less than 500g and it’s fallen off multiple times. Dont use these on painted drywall, it just doesnt work
@@csk2248 THE TRUTH THEY ARE NOT READY FOR! seriously, velcro strips suck ass...
Hello
Where did you get the middle wood on (1:47)? When I bought the shelf from ikea the middle part is missing I don’t know if it’s separate
I am so happy I came across this video!
I live in an apartment on rent, so basically I can't really do anything to the walls.
This has helped me a lot.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
Just get a matched quart of paint at Home Depot and a small container of joint compound. When your ready to leave the apartment repair it yourself. If you have hardwood floors, these could potentially fall off and damage the flooring, and that is a much harder and more expensive fix. Plus you will have extra paint around if you need to touch things up for peace of mind.
From where I'll get these item?
zafar iqbal Hardware stores , I don’t know which country you live in but in England it’s places like B&Q , screwfix etc
Same here.
Those strips can fail. Depending on the room temperature change.
😲
*No Buddy never just a glue or command strips instead screws studs and anchors - have a nice day now*
Adhesives? Dam ballsy. Good for you.
Just bought these thinking the Lack's had the same central rectangle out piece to attach the sticky tape too, but they don't, so annyoing @1:54
No one ever mentions how expensive these strips are.
because its the wrong thing to use regardless, the entire point of the strip is its removability, which requires you to stretch it using the tab like chewing gum so it loses its grip, so the tabs have to stick out, and the strips can't be nailed.
When his shelf fails its going to pancake world trade tower style, its just a bad idea.
Plus the adhesive strip rating is for weight pulling straight down from a hook, the levering force of a shelf reduces the hold rating to nothing. Any double sided tape strong enough to make this work would cause more damage to your wall than a screw would.
francis chow no the velcro wirk different
francis chow all you need to do is pull them off...then you can see the strips.
He mentioned it is 7$
Ramu Bommisetty shelves are $7
Your LACK shelves are different than the ones I have here. The ones I have do not have that middle piece therefore don’t have a place where the tape can be placed on the non colored side :/
The shelves don’t have that block of wood in the middle of them anymore.
Good looking out! They don’t, I don’t think this method can work anymore 😩😩😩

OMG, thanks for this! I am getting into collecting a few Funko Pops, and I wanted to put a few on shelves like this but didn't want to damage my apt walls while doing so. I did a Google search, and found this video, and this is so useful. Thanks for sharing!
Check out my updated video too, I have a couple of Pops in it. ua-cam.com/video/Tr05Y1-GptA/v-deo.html
Price & availability details..plz
I literally just bought these shelves to put funkos on. Came to this video while trying to mount them
I wish I knew about these strips before I tried to put up my corner shelf up with nails and screws. What a nightmare! Came very close to throwing my hammer through the wall.
Damn they removed that middle block in the new ones
Yeah but when you pound those in they still don't look very stable, thats why the shelf has holes on the back to make it more secured on the wall....
Glad I found this video. I was thinking of using these command strips for some floating shelves but didn't realise they need to be put in a corner. Very useful video, thanks for uploading!
Deborah M
They really work guys! I have been using them for years!
MommyOf Three take it they are only very light weight tho, jus the odd ornamental
MommyOf Three do you want to be mommy of four
I used 3M dual lock for hangers on the wall where I put my drones. They seems to hold well, but one of them failed already so I wouldn't rely on it. The shelves can be used only for light stuff, one calculus book would break it.
Jr Gonzales ha ha ha hilarious!!!!!
This item not work in India 😂🤣
Are you sure they could hold? I don't think they can be used for books
I don't think this will work in the bathroom, that's where I need it the most. All the condensation over time will wear on the adhesive. Any suggestions?
for the bathroom id use nails personally. i drilled into my wall and i rent. if/when i move you can always do a simple pass over any holes with some cheap spackle
I used the command strip and it put a hole in the paint on the wall when I removed it, I returned it for refund back to hammer and nail to hang stuff up
Perfect just what I was looking for
I used them command strips to put up a bamboo magnetic knife rack above my cooker on tiles two years later it's still up and looking good.
Would the adhesive hold up in bathroom moisture? Would love to do this in my small restroom.
so it wont take the paint off the wall when you go to take it off ?
crying because I just found out that the corner of my wall where I want to put the shelves are not 90 degrees. I know most wall corners aren't, but its far enough where I can't use the command strips on one side.
Don't put your DSLR on that type of shelf .... Otherwise someday your heart + kidney will come out through your mouth ...
Good luck 👍
😎😎😎😎😎😎
This is general idea of what can put on shelf .lego, postage stamps 🤣.. i want to trust this but im scared , wil they rip paint off and fall that way tho?
How do you remove the shelves later? You can't grab the little pull tabs.
Thats really cool can you use it with textured walls?
I used super glue for my coat rack first everything was okay but 2 weeks later it fell off the wall!!!
Uhmm hi did u ordered it online I wanted to ordered online but in ig I.hope u see this comment and sorry for having a bad grammar ;)
The design to attach this squares shelves are horrible.. btw the material is also extremely breakable
I think they changed the design of the shelves they no longer have the center piece to put command strips on
Yes! I’m not sure why they removed it
If it's pulled out, did the adhesive leave the stain on the wall?
+MyMagic LouLou the 3m strips dont leave a residue
But I constantly have to worry on when it would fall
Not if you put literally nothing on them like this guys does. The shelves themselves don't weigh much, so if you don't load the shelves with anything, they'll be fine.
Must try this... I was always thinking how to do this without drilling
you can used also liquid nail
A couple of warnings:
1) I ordered the shelves from the link and they look exactly the same, EXCEPT that the side meant for mounting does not have the area in the middle that would be flush with the wall as in the video. I.e., the entire side is recessed and there's nowhere to put the command strips that would be flush with the wall. I guess they changed the design. So the easiest options are to use hardware or expose the ugly mounting side to the world.
2) Make sure your corner is 90 degrees. If both sides can't be flush with the walls then you're going to have a bad time. Many apartments and buildings have walls that are not quite at 90 degrees.
I realized this too. If you have a 3d printer you can design a corner piece to fix both the problems by re-adding the removed middle portion of the shelf then adding a bit of chamfer so if your walls are not perfectly at 90 degrees you can add a few degrees.
!!!!! I learned this the hard way
@@alexperry9276 LOL. Sure, my 3d printer is next to my screwdriver! If not, I'll borrow one from my neighbour. -_-
@@Tashyp LOL
Thank you! Nice job, glad you clarified best usage. Merci.
Someone should do a test to see how much weight they could hold before failure
About nothing...
I did this and I put my goldfish bowl onit,I’ve been picking glasss out of my face for the last 2weeks
hey man any update on how long these lasted? id like to try this
They’re still up. So for a few years now. I only use it for light items like some action figures.
Stupid product. No offence intended. It's really stupid
What do you call that little piece of metal (holder?) screwed to your shelf? 1:50
Thanks!
Iso nahan beban pirang kilo rek?
Please do a NO DRILL, NO NAILS, NO WALL, NO SHELVES, NOTHING, JUST THINGS HANGING AROUND ON THE FLOOR OR FLOATING ON THE WALL
When the wood shelves LACK suspension by having life screwed them in 😂 he he he
I also used push pins for extra support after first time it failed
"No drilling No NAILS" 1:50 Uses nails
I'm pretty sure they meant no nails IN THE WALL which they kept true to.
👏👍👌😂
Lol guess don't read it's in the title. never mentioned he would not use nails on the shelf
Lol Mcleonell your petty as hell.... ☠☠
MCleonell no nails on wall..
I think paint has to be removed first so it sticks to the plasterboard otherwise the shelf will come down.
It's 2020 ! Stop using inches as a mesuring unit
This will ruin your paint. It pulls the latex off the wall over time.
WOW 😳 good 👍
but dude, it is way more expensive and not solid than its regular fixing .
2:10, what are you fixing with nails and why?
Would these be able to support a NES, PS2 Slim, and a Nintendo Wii? Each on their own shelf
I wonder if those would work for me?! I have these terrible and cheap popcorn walls in my apartment. It's so hard getting anything on them.
They could work but like I mentioned in the video its not designed to hold a lot of weight. Mine are still up after almost year.
Or do what most people do and just screw in the shelves anyway. It's just as easy to patch a hole as it is to hang the shelves in the first place.
This is a really bad idea... potentially unsafe.
I put a small corner shelf up on a tiled wall, just as shown on video. I placed my Wi-Fi hub on it, not even a minute later it was down 😭 I tried so many straps. These are a waste of money even on tiles. Bought them after watching this video. So disappointed.
It doesn’t work for everyone. All walls are different. Mine are still up after a couple of years.
Cool idea but im wondering if he has caught all the pokemon since he has like 6 gameboys
I used command strips on some artwork that wasnt heavy but falls down after a few months with command strips fail
It have to be the velcro the ones have like a indentations and come. Together loge. A teeths
Can i put a 50 inch tv on it 🤔
Damn thats dope but how long will it last
Without drilling would render it pretty useless and not worth the price.
why didnt u use 3m vhb tape?
Shall we book this glue? Im feom India.
I mean.. Im from India. Is there any booking facility or any details of a shop where they sell these Glue packets?
I dont trust that adhesive.
Couple of things don't make sense.
1) How do you get it off? Doesn't seem possible to pull on the strips to release the glue. Also doesn't seem possible to detach the heavy duty velcro from 2 mounted surfaces which are perpendicular to each other
2) If it's not possible to release the strips or detach the velcro, why not just 3M heavy duty double sided tape?
There is a tab to pull that will release the strip.
My shelf is still up. Of course if you aren't sure use nails. But I was experimenting. Check out my 1 year update. ua-cam.com/video/w9oJfk5OpIc/v-deo.html
How about sticking something on the wall temporary?
I started with Woodprix plans.
Doesn't work. What a waste of money
Bro Thank You so much love thath kinda like a life hack i subed and liked :)
Went to check these out at Ikea, they don't have that little section of material where he added the strips, They may have updated the design to not include it.
Yeah they have changed it. Other options would be to add some wood there. But might be too much trouble.
I have sender blocks and it is like impossible to drill a brick
No drilling no nailing....whaaaat....Ikea uses Nordic black magic....I guess

How much it will cost out side USA?
Terrific job! Will you be doing more videos on this topic soon?
+Best Access Doors hi I'm trying to do more home diy videos too.
The strips are more expensive than the lack selves dude 😂
