You just need to have a mixer/recorder that can record to an SD card in your workflow. Something like the Zoom H4n Pro, Zoom H6, or Rodecaster Pro will do the job nicely

Don't Overthink It!!! 1.) Practice for ONE day with recording your voice. Teach YOURSELF how to interact with your mic. It will not take more than one day! It doesn't matter if your mic costs $100 or $3,000. What's important is that you learn how your voice interfaces with the mic. 2.) Practice being close to the mic at different levels: loud, medium, low volumes. 3.) Practice being further away from the mic: loud mic volume, medium mic volume, low mic volume. 4.) Now do the same thing but instead of changing the actual volume of the mic, practice changing the volume of your voice: closely and further away. NOTE: After you find a good volume/distance, you may discover that you have distorted peaks on "B", "P", "S", & "T" sounds. This is especially true when the word starts off with these letters (as opposed to the letters being within a syllable). I.E., The "B" & "P" sounds would be much harsher and harder when the words are "Bass Player" than the "b" & "p" sounds in "lobotomy therapy". The only thing you have to do is train yourself to soften them. Not to worry, it's very simple and you can teach yourself to do all of this within ONE day, with no recording experience. 5.) Learn to "mic your B's & P's". This is basically "mouthing" the b's & p's without a lot of force and air. Why? Mics pick up easily while you're breathing so all you have to do is put your mouth in the B or P position and the sound will come out. It will sound really weak while you're doing it but when you play the recording back, it will sound normal. If you say it normally, when you play it back, you will have distorted peaks because it's too heavy of a pronunciation picked up by the sensitive mics. You will either have to edit that part out or add a telephone effect on it. It's best just to re-record it. The #1 complaint about podcasts is sound quality. You will not have better sound quality by buying an expensive mic. What an expensive mic will do is magnify your poor sound quality. Lol! If you don't follow the basic recording fundamentals, the expensive mic will accentuate this and make the poor recording more pronounced. Expensive mics have larger diaphragms created with more gold. Gold is a conductor so the more mistakes you make, the more those mics will pick it up. Expensive mics are for professionals who are more familiar with what they're doing. They have more YEARS of experience. You are NOT going to become a professional audio engineer overnight. HOWEVER< you can become a professional podcaster overnight. Just follow these simple steps over the course of about 8 hours and get started on your podcast the following day! As time goes on, you will become an audio professional. Why? Repetition breeds skill. You can then scale up to more expensive equipment. You will have the revenue to pay for it and to pay for the courses teaching you how to use it. As for now, just get started. Don't take yourself so seriously. Nobody knows you yet.
Hi there, Jason! Using a lapel mic is a great option for capturing clear, close-up audio. As for syncing the audio in post, that's definitely doable. Most audio editing software will allow you to easily sync your audio tracks. Happy podcasting!

I record my own music using Garageband and already have a small library of tunes I can use as intro music, transition themes, etc. so that will make production a lot easier. For in-person sessions, you can try Audacity, GarageBand, Adobe Audition, Hindenburg Journalist, Alitu, or Descript. our only (kinda problem) I record on logic at the sample rate 48khz but my gh5 Lumix only record audio at 50khz ... so then its a long (slightly unnecessary) process after filming - I have to take both audio files into logic and stretch the 'good' audio file to fit the filmed audio - then take that into Final Cut Pro ... then synchronise everything and it works really well ... but would love to speed up my workflow - any advice that won't cost me an arm and a leg?
That's weird that your GH5 records at 50kHz... See if you can bring your podcast microphone audio directly into Final Cut and interpolate the sample rate to match the GH5. Might save you a step
