Victoria's first officially recognised gold discovery was in 1850 near Clunes, almost 40 kilometres north of Ballarat.
It is said that they announced the discovery after the separation of the NSW colony and Victoria in 1851. It was certainly kept quiet, after all we wouldn’t have wanted all the wealth to have gone to Sydney. Great vlog buddy.

If aboriginals found gold they certainly did not view it as having worth nor did they make use of it for anything. They were 'hunter gatherer, stone age' peoples, they had not made use of any metals, they had not progressed as humanity on every other corner of earth did. They did not so much as plant a seed and grow any food stuffs to sustain themselves. Even coconuts that they treasured when they washed ashore that they never allowed a single coconut to go uneaten long enough for it to have germinated, not one single coconut tree grew in northern Australia before white man settled here. Think about that, they could only envisage the meal a coconut could make in the present, it was so good to eat it had to be eaten now... Think of how easily they could have had them growing on the northern coastline producing more then they could ever dream of to eat, if only they had the ability to perceive and plan for the future. Aboriginals hadn't even made crockery from clay, so they were along way from discovering metals
