Thanks for your comments, for the wick I used a piece of flat wick from an old oil lamp which I separated a string from it. You can also use a piece of shoe lace it will work too. Good luck in cutting your glass jar.
That's pretty cool. I'm thinking of making one myself. Might adapt the design slighty and glue two jam jar lids back to back so the base can be another jam jar
FYI: ACE hardware and Michal's crafts sells cotton candle wick. You can also buy cotton or fiberglass wick on eBay. OR... you can look up a tutorial here in YTube on how to make it yourself, out of cotton string, borax and salt. I bought 100ft of it on eBay for $7. and I think I'm set for life!
Inspiring INDEED! Thank you for this post! I am going to try this with the JB Weld to secure the parts rather than drilling the glass. I also saw a way to use cotton string and alcohol or lamp oil with fire to create the heated glass cutter instead of electricity/wire. What did you use for the wick, something like a shoe lace or cotton rope? Best wishes & thank you!
The one danger I see with this lantern is it's top-heavy and narrow. It would be easy for it to fall over and start a fire. Suggest adding a larger base for stability.
Very nice project! Just please, don't use asbestos wire, it's really really bad for you, dispose of it responsibly and find something else. Take care, keep up the good work Cheers ;)
Never mind about the cutting disk, you can draw a line around the jar with a permanent marker and put the wire on it so that the wire is kept strait as possible. The groove I cut with the cutting disk was only to keep the wire strait and does not move while it is being heated up.
+Виталий используется специальное масло для ламп, у нас оно продается под ником осветительный керосин, есть другие составы для старых керосиновых ламп. Масло растительное подойдет, раньше его и использовали но его тяжелее разжечь и оно сильно коптит

Dabs of heat resistant silicone for motor or oven seal should work too. I just might try to make one. ;)

simple and perfect thumbUp and Abo....:)
I like it, but a suggestion. Instead of a hex nut, how about a wing nut to keep your fingers a little farther from the flame?

What oil do you use?
Lamp oil preferably. You can also use kerosene or white spirit.
How long can the lamp last for a small bottle of oil like yours ...?
Well I did not try it but only tested it for two hours. I guess it should last for 8 hours.
Thank you very much for the Info

OMG!!!!!👏👏👏👏
Подскажите какой вид топлива? Спасибо!
+Виталий топливо = нефть лампы fuel = Lamp oil
+Silvio De Leonardo Какое, подсолнечное или оливковое подойдет?
