I have had a long, hard fought battle with my HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 using refilled printer cartridges. I finally got it to work!!!! I turned off the chip as shown in a video by Kevin's Ink and More, and it still wouldn't print. Then I found this video. The tip that worked for me was to simply unplug the printer then plug it back in. I was printing on cheap copy paper and the print quality wasn't good but at least in was actually printing. So I changed the paper type to HP Photo Papers and voila, it worked!!!! I've been printing every since. Thank you Kevin and Sue for your help. I was ready to throw this printer into the trash!!!

HP removed Cartridge Protection. It doesn’t exist on mine & it won’t let me use refillables, which is gross considering the fact we should be recycling.
This was quite helpful. I did everything you said but my older Inkjet 4250 does not have an option to disregard the ink levels as you were able to do with the Printer Assistant -- maintain printer -- on your software. There was no "cartridge protection" option one way or the other. I've booted the printer multiple times and even wiped the contacts as some other advisors have advised but it simply will not override. What kills me is the Internal test enables me to print just perfectly but it won't print a document that I choose!!! Such a ripoff by HP.
Hi, novice here so anything I say you can try but there just suggestions and I'm not going to be held liable.. 1. I don't have a cartridge protection either but there's an ap called HP Smart... you can try it but I made sure not to have web services unchecked (on the printer in settings. 2. I also went to Control Panel/ Hardware - devices and printers - and then "printer properties (not properties) and unchecked bidirectional so my printer isn't sending info back to HP. 3. I also changed the port. Here's a link to where it is so you can see if this will work for you... ua-cam.com/video/Mlkh4tlXcO4/v-deo.html But for me when I went back to the right port (WDS) it still didn't work so I changed the port. I cannot guarantee it will work for you, but it did work for me. Before I started I had my IP address from printer and then went to devices and printers, selected my printer, "printer properties" (not properties), the Port tab - Then I added a new port. 4. Lastly I had to make sure "Share this Printer" was selected in the printer properties sharing tab. Hope one of these things helps... :)

Ok unplugging and plugging still works but you have to unplug it for every operation. Its better to have a switch. Make sure to unplug the power cord. NOT THE USB
Some of these features aren't available anymore. My new win10 computer wouldn't print because of error saying the print cartridges weren't HP. But my win7 computer printed. Solution was opening and closing printer glass to get to the print cartridges. Didn't change anything.
HP "updated" the firmware in my printer so that now all generic ink cartridges won't work, which is supposed to be illegal, yet they do it anyway. I tried calling tech support, but they claim that they cannot reset my firmware to what it was when I bought the product and it worked. I hope they enjoy the temporary increase in revenue as I am now forced to by "HP Ink", but I swear to God that I will never buy another HP product for the rest of my life!
The only one that worked on my HP 3512 for HP61 refilled cartridge was the reset process but only for 1 new print. Error and failure returned immediately after.
Too long and wandery in the camera, but...the dry start (holding start when the power is disconnected) is a universal reset which works. Also, very important to not click on the company internet interface to your printer. That'll trigger safety features. You can clean the print heads from the machine. Don't forget to trigger system cleaning.
@@MedleyUnlimited I did find an HP Assistant to download but when I did it forced me to take the firmware update and didn't have any toggles for ink detection so I took it off. I also ran the HP Smart and couldn't find anything, What Windows version are you running? I have Windows 10.

Have an HP Envy 5055. I turn off Wi-Fi access to it and keeps reconnecting without MY permission even though I've set it up to stop from connecting. I'm going to have to reset it to factory settings and cut it off all internet as HP forces updates so 3rd party ink cartridges don't work. Unplug your printer from power supply. 2.hold down start button on printer for 10 seconds 3. click on print doc u wish to print 4. plug printer back in. If your getting message just about one colour, that sounds like more than this video can help you with. Has your printer been damaged in some way. Or is there a blockage? x

It's a constant battle between manufacturers and consumers of their print cartridges. They sell printers in general, at a low market price and expect to earn a full payback via the purchase of many cartridges over the lifetime of a printer. Guess what, I ain't playing ball anymore and have so far managed to avoid paying for any OEM cartridges for the past 4 years now, but my printer is fine. Yes,I have had to buy a new printhead bought from Hong Kong for buttons, but that's about the only issue I have had. Why can't printer companies like HP, Epson, and others wake up!, the internet will always provide a work around to their scams. Just be upfrontHP & Epson , and charge a very small cost for a replacement cartridge as replacement OEM cartridges are a complete and utter rip off!

Lol "counterfeit ink" like you can take the ink and use it as money. They are such aholes. There is nothing illegal about buying 3rd party ink cheaper and anyone who tells you otherwise is a Fkn liar. That's like buying a refrigerator and the manufacturer says you can only put Kraft brand items in it and anything else would be "counterfeit". You bought the item from them. You now own that item and can do what you please with it. No manufacturer can tell you what you can and can't do with it after you own it. It's just a tactic so you buy their overpriced ink that costs them cents to make.
From your computer, select Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes. Right-click the name of your printer. Select Printing Preferences. Select the Advanced tab, then under the Color printing section, select Print Colors as Black and White. Click OK Hope this helps :)
Most HP inkjet printers locks you if you run out of any of the cartridge no matter even if you don't use that specific cartridge. One solution is to use your printer via wifi from your smart phone. You might still get notification if you have the hp app in your phone but you will be able to print.

I have an HP 1510, the 678 cartridges are a bugger. Although one of my friend fills both the cartridges with black ink and gets close to 350 prints!

I was informed that HP keeps coming out with updates that sabotage cartridge refills. Maybe this is redundant, but that is what I heard.

I tried all the fixes and none worked It says the color cartridge is empty even though I refilled it. I only need to use the black cartridge anyway.

@@MedleyUnlimited Hi Thanks for your time but this method is not working for me theirs is no option i see except preferences and test print "Go to the general tab of printer properties, click the Change Properties with the shield > Ok, and you will be able to modify the related settings" or i maybe missing something? appreciate your time

@@MedleyUnlimited HI thanks but this options this guys talking is unfortunately none in my case. this is printer is working just fine then i ordered a ink cartridge from hp online seller but after replacing the black ink it does not recognize anymore
this is not working for me, thanks anyway
or just use hp instant ink...
instead of breaking hp tos which can just get your printer banned.
