- In this video I work out what is preventing me from resetting the oil level sensor on my Audi A4. If you are struggling to get your light to go off, this might help you out.

Thank you so much for this! I have the exact same problem with my 2003 A4. Looked at the hood (bonnet) sensor wiring and it was corroded in half just like yours. Did the reset and all is right again.
That's great to hear Adam. Glad it solved your problem, but annoying that your sensor wiring is broken - that sucks!
Daaamn, i thought i had some serious problem with my car and your solution fixed it 😂 thanks mate
That's great to hear David - really glad it helped. Happy motoring!
I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video! I'm having the low oil light issue on my Q5, despite having just done an oil change. I was thinking I may have a bad level sensor, but now I'll be sure to check the hood latch switch first.
It's an unusual system for sure and I don't think I've ever had it on any other cars. Hopefully you manage to get it fixed.
Very useful. All the above is correct. Even for a reset with VCDS, the hood sensor must be active (if it is correct). If not, follow the procedure shown here. Thanks for this video.
Thanks Tibor for this extra detail and for taking the time to comment. 👍
Thanks mate, worked like a charm!
That's great to hear - thanks for letting me know. Happy motoring!
Your a legend lad , thsnk you i taped my bonnet sensor closed as i knackered it need to open it up to reset the light
Thanks and glad I could help.
Same problem. Good bless you.
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it. Glad to hear you are able to fix yours too.
Very helpful, thank you! 😊👍🇿🇦
My pleasure, and thanks for taking the time to comment.
@@MostlyHelpful is the bonnet latch sensor repairable? Cheers
Massive help TY!!
Thanks for commenting and glad it was helpful!
I can’t believe that worked, I thought for sure my sensor was rubbish
That's great to hear Troy and thanks for taking the time to comment.
Many many thanks. Mine turned out to be bonnet sensor had become unplugged. Plugged back in min oil warning light gone and bonnet warning now working. My problem was Oil warning light came on topped it up but oil warning stayed on.
Thanks for letting me know and that's great to hear that it was an easy fix.
Mine came on right before my oil change and is a faulty cord like yours, but if I rest it will it make my car think I just got an oil change because It’s been like a month since so I don’t want that to be off.
It doesn't really matter if you reset the service light though if it's only been 1 month since your last oil change. All it means is that it'll remind you 1 month later than the normal schedule - I wouldn't be worried about that.
@@MostlyHelpful but I’m assuming they reset it after my oil change and it remains on. I just don’t get how it’s definitely a sensor since they tried to get me to fix it and by them resting it did not turn it off
This is so helpfull but when my light appears i open the hood, wait for half a minute and then light goes away, but when riding few miles the light just keeps coming back, what do I do?I tried service reset but it's just the same.i have audi a4 b7 2.0 tdi brd
Hi Dragan, thanks for taking time to comment. It sounds like your bonnet reset process is working correctly, but once reset something is triggering the sensor to show low oil level again. Assuming you have the right level of oil in the car I would check the sensor next as it might be failing and giving a false reading. Good luck 👍
Thanks
No problem and thanks for taking time to comment.
In my B6 this oil sensor error has been causing a lot of headaches because they can't find the problem, it has already been replaced by a new one and the error continues. I think the problem is in the quadrant.😞
It may well be a wiring fault if the sensor has been replaced already. Have you checked it on VAGCOM to see what it says?
I have an Audi A3 8p and found my issue with oil level sensor very frustrating, I have peiced together that it is somehow connected to the bonnet as I open and close the bonnet the light would go off and I would travel about 60 miles before the light comes on again.
I will look into the binnet catch and #ee if it is the plug to it that is eroded
Definitely sounds like you might have an issue with the catch. Any update?
How about the yellow "oil sensor" error? I replaced oil, oil filter and oil sensor two months ago, and last night i got that error showing up.. turned car on and off few times.. went for a short drive around.. still on.. (its not low or high error btw, it just sayz sensor next to that icon)
That is a new one on me for sure, and given you have replaced the sensor it must be something else causing the issue. Good luck with finding out what it is.
Did u find out ?!
I have a mk1 TT and it does it intermittently. Level is fine but sometimes after a hard drive it comes on, not always
Sounds like it might be the sensor getting affected by heat (due to engine temps of a hard drive) and then resetting once it has cooled down. As long as your oil level is fine then it's just an annoyance rather than the precursor to impending engine doom!
Myne rests and after a few miles comes back on and oil level is right can you maybe tell me why please
A couple of other people have mentioned this and I believe it's due to a faulty sensor.
Where i can i order a new sensor and how to install?
Depending on where you live the obvious answer is your local dealer, although it will inevitably be expensive. Alternatively remove the sensor, check the part number and see if any of the OEM brands sell it via you usual car parts store. As for installing it, I never replaced mine so I don't know.
Did the service reset as you mentioned and the light is gone 🙏🏻
Yes, exactly that, service light gone.
I don't get the point, why the bonnet switch is connected to the resetting of the oil level monitor. The oil level should be showing correctly independent if the bonnet is open or closed
If everything is working correctly then it actually makes sense as there is no additional step for the owner/user to perform - the indicator resets automatically. The problem comes when the bonnet open/close sensor isn't working, as in my case. But I get your point in that why can't the sensor just detect the level of oil all the time, rather than being triggered by a bonnet open/close event. I'm sure there's a reason but probably one for the Audi engineers.
Wiring issues on the sensor connector are fun 🙄 lol
Wiring issues are a nuisance full stop and as cars get inherently more reliable (better rust protection, better built etc.) the wiring increasingly becomes a more prevalent failure point. One of the "joys" of running and older modern car....
I have that problem whit "min oil "how can i reset ?!
Have you checked everything that I mentioned in the video, like your bonnet sensor?
I canceled the hood senzor in March because IT was draining my car s batterry ...
a few days ago i got the message "min " 😔
My car is a Audi A4 B6 gaz automatic 2001
Same for mine 😂
Frustrating isn't it. Hopefully you get it sorted.
The one i have making lot of noise and sensor light
3.0l V6 engine or something different?
You need to fix your roof lining as it looks like a saggy tent
It was always on my list of things to do, but I sold the car before getting round to it.
Hmm, going to try this on A6 2,5 AKE, oil lamp on for no reason. Changed the sensor today, still on, does it also have that think in front?
Assuming your bonnet sensor is connected, your oil level is correct and your oil level sensor is working fine then the warning light should go out. Takes a few miles/km of driving for it to happen though.
@@MostlyHelpful i will try but it is connected yes. Now im going to check. I have done quite a lot now. New discs front and rear, a lot of new stuff, horn, even the lightwash
@@MostlyHelpful the wire trick did it. Thank you. Very helpful!
This is great to hear. Well done and thanks for letting me know 👍
My B6's oil sensor don't even bother 😅 the last time it appeared was 40k km ago. BTW I'm glad that I'm not the only B6 owner with loose roof lining.
Ah yes, that roof lining was fine until it hit 40 degrees here in the UK earlier in summer. That melted all the glue and it's not been the same since. Very annoying.
@@MostlyHelpful I used coloured sewing pins. Now my roof looks like a giant pin cushion 😅 but it works
And do i see right? You cut the wire?
Not quite. I didn't cut the wire, it broke. What that means is that even with the bonnet open the "car" still sees the bonnet as closed. And it is this which causes issues with resetting the oil level warning.
Quindi tenendo premuto lo zero del kilometraggio si resetta?
Sì, credo di sì
