Shane was born with a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy that requires him to use an electric wheelchair. He is the author of several award-winning books, the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah is a senior at Carleton College, studying sociology and anthropology. She works as a researcher for an educational consulting firm. Her future aspirations include attending law school and owning a goat sanctuary. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog.
Shane and Hannah have been dating for over 2.5 years and living together in Minneapolis in recent months. Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.

@@83loveanimals I see her eyes light up whenever she looks at him, she leans towards him and touches his arm all the time and he makes her laugh heaps. Body language is a huge part of communication so it's hard for us to see Shane's affection for Hannah due to his lack of physical gestures. That may reduce one's ability to see their connection but they so obviously have lots of fun being with each other.

I have to say & I’m ashamed of myself for it now, but I had doubts about the legitimacy of your guys’ relationship. I think I mostly thought that Hannah must’ve had some deep insecurity where she wanted to date somebody who was needy and would never leave her. Which I feel horrible saying that aloud because I feel like it shows my judgmental nature :-/ But after watching so many of your videos and seeing how cute & articulate & kind & hilarious Shane is, I see that you guys are so much more on the same level than I realized, & that the physical element is just a single element that is different, like in every other relationship that is multifaceted. I started watching your guys’ vids like it was an educational video but now I just love and adore u guys and wish you guys were my friends!!!!
In this video, we learn Shane is a *hero* and saved Hannah from falling in an even worse position. He suffered injuries but thanks to his bravery they still were able to ride the Ferris wheel.

Everytime I watch your videos I can't get enough of the way how Hannah looks at Shane. If someone ever has any doubts about Hannah's love and admiration towards Shane, just simply needs to look at her face expressions and the way she looks at him. It can't be mistaken for anything else. It's pure love.

That’s such a cute picture of you two!! I’m glad you weren’t hurt thanks to Hannah !! Can’t wait to see the next video !! Shane is such an inspiration to me. I was raised by my mother and step dad who has cerebral palsy, but worked at a very physically demanding job for many years. He never slowed down and worked many “able bodied” men under the table. Because of him I feel like I’m a better person and don’t see people but who they are and not their disabilities, if only other people were as lucky as I was to have such a great role model as I had!!

I'm in Southern California and we are born with a built in aversion to the cold so yeah, I may never meet them. Lol but I'm moving to Idaho soon so I'm going to get the whole snow thing down. It's literally snowed once in my lifetime in the city I live in. We usually have to drive a couple of hours to go snowboarding. Lol so sad...

ive watched this video several times and im sorry but its funny every time. now, though, ive had a different perspective of this story. the fact Shane can laugh about this, hes understanding of Hannah's situation and Hannah is understanding of his. This is just another thing that shows why your relationship works so well. Instead of him being mad, berating her, or her blaming him for wanting to ride the ride, they both handled it so wonderfully. with respect, understanding, love and best of all laughter! Honestly, yall could give relationship advice for everyone, not just interabled couples like was spoken about lately. Yall are def couple goals 😊💕❤💕❤💕
