Love the base ideas. It makes it look more finished. Could use a coaster mold for a bigger base for a different look. Embellish that too. I use peices of plastic that people use to put over a nice table cloth to protect it from everyday wear. I got it at a fabric store. Works great!! And reusable. Not to thick not to thin ..it is just perfect.
I hope everyone is inspired by this ocean resin sculpture. Please acknowledge me and link my channel if I have inspired you - we are a band of artists who help each other grow
I already made a couple of these. I love making them. But I mixed the colours using mica powder into separate cups. Your method of putting the ink into the wet resin looks really good. I liked the way you made a firm base for it. Thanks for sharing. Regards, Jan 🇬🇧💕
This is beautiful! I gave it a go today. Fingers crossed for a good outcome. I wish I could post a pic to show you. It isn't finished yet. It's still draped over a form. I'm excited to see what I get.
I think for that big of a piece u should try a cup that has a wider bottom that way when u drape it over it will have a bigger bottom . Cuz it looks like a large piece of resin to put over a small cup. It looks cute tho❤️
Have you considered removing the paper backing on the contact paper when molding your pieces?. It will be a bit sticky but will be more flexible. What you have done is just beautiful but just wondering if removing the backing paper would make it easier to work with.
Cara Bullock Yes I’m sure it would. Resin definitely does not stick to freezer paper and as long as it is shiny it should work. I personally have not tried it. Hope it works. Perhaps try a small one first?
I have used sac art resin and countertop resin. I find that art resin takes a lot longer to set up, because of the extended work time. The regular countertop resin is better fo this project. Your piece is gorgeous.
Hi Jules, I love this piece and your creativity. I looked up the starfish on your list. They only show two inch starfish. How can I locate the teeny tiny ones in your sculpture? Thank you.
Omg was going down the rabbit hole of you tube and came across your fantastic videos...I am a complete nut for anything that deals with the ocean kinda sad since I live in northern Ontario Canada where we see at least 5-6 months of snow lol...After watching you videos several times I was wondering if there is a particular resin that I should use if I wanna try and make either a lampshade cover or light cover for my ceiling light...I just thought all those amazing colours and details would look so cool as a light fixture covering....not sure if this is possible or if it would catch fire or melt because of the heat from the light bulb...any suggestions/thoughts greatly appreciated ...many thanks from Canada
debbie dewey thank you so much. I’ve never done a lampshade but I did do a collaboration with a British artist- Louise Singleton. She has made beautiful lampshades. ua-cam.com/video/421uoenpBMs/v-deo.html
Thank you so much....I really want to try and bring the ocean in doors...it just warms my heart and soul :)..I will follow the link you provided to see what I come up with..thanks again for sharing and replying...look forward to your next adventure
Jules! YAY, I did a resin sculpture by accident! LOL I made too much resin, so I just poured the excess on top of a cellophane sheet. It's still flimsy, (day 3 since the pour?). I can pull off some of the cellophane, but not all of it, is that ok? I have it on a wooden turntable, taped in some areas, so it will harden the way I hope it would? Anyway, I hope whatever cellophane is on there is ok? Also, I hear it takes a complete month until it really hardens? is that right?
Lily Cessna I had a floppy/flimsy resin sculpture and placed it back on my bottle (my form) and just poured clear resin on it. Rock hard now. Video coming in the next few days. 🌸
Ooooh I'm so excited I went to your amazon recommendations and saw some mica powder.. I didn't see you add it in this video, can you? to add some extra bling? Can you use it, in place of the liquid colors?
Beautiful! I went onto your product recommendations site, and did not see the respirator you are suggesting? Can you please send me a link to the mask you are thinking about getting? As I do have lung issues that I need to protect
Hiya Jules, THANK you, Thank you! since you recommended not to use much of the mica colored powder, can you explain why? and how much you recommend we can use? I'm thinking of ordering the "Artisan" brand of colored mica powders from Amazon.
Hiya Jules, it's been about 7 hours. I tried to mold it over a glass vase, noticed the resin was starting to slide and when touched the resin lifted gooey on my stick. Noticed it was starting to slide just a smidge. So, I set it flat on the table. The touch should be tacky right? not gooey?
Jules Madison ArtPreneur gotcha! I think I’m getting the nack. Takes many many hours for the resin to get to sculpture. It’s been cold here in Kansas LOL.
It's cordless - and is available on My Amazon Recommendations - under the lighting section - LED Light Base www.amazon.com/ideas/amzn1.account.AE2VAQ56G46PV7I6WT6UBB4YVKQQ?ref=idea_yil_tab
Suzana Dancks Le' Rez Expressions absolutely! If you look at my video (51) I credit Sue and voice her many times in several other videos. She is a fabulous artist and one I may suggest to the many galleries that I represent in Europe and the USA. My main job is Art Advisor. Please read the “About Me” section on my channel. I’m always inspired by artists. It’s what drives me. I also love your channel - you are a wonderful artist. Thanks for watching 🌸 plus I have been making resin sculptures for over 20 years. I have a fine art degree majoring in sculpture.
Yes to the respirator!!! There is a woman on line..search for "resin is killing me" she does cups/cup turning using resin. She is VERY SERIOUSLY ILL because she was not instructed or taught to use a respirator. You will have to watch her commentary on it. Actually frightening the damage resin has done to her unprotected lungs. So please everyone do this in a well ventilated room with a respirator. Do not be fooled by low odor resins. You should still use these same precautions. You only get one set of your own lungs. Cancer or lung transplantation are things you just do not want to go through due to lung damage. Also you should only use neoprene blue gloves with resin. The chemicals do not penatrate them as easily. Do research into what gloves you should be using and never do this with bare hands. Wash any resin that gets on your skin off immediately. These points will help keep you safe and still creating with resin and doing what you love. 😉
I love it and thank you for sharing your techniques with us. each artist does something just a little differently which gives options. One question though. Was contact paper sticky side up or down?
I used to. I switched to Naked Fusion a while ago because of its clarity. I still use Stone Coat for resin sculptures sometimes because it is so tough. Thanks for watching.
Lily Cessna it is different. Bombay Ink is Indian ink which I use as a transparent tint for resin. It doesn’t have alcohol in it. Alcohol inks can be used for textures and different effects not just for tinting.
Very nice, just one comment. I would have enjoyed the video more if you had done more work off the camera. Watching you peel paper off gets boring. Sorry, just being truthful. However it was educational and I’m anxious to try 👍🏼👍🏼
Love the surprise at the end w the vase bottom. Starfish and the extra support. True artist! Mahalo for teaching!

Love this and I developed a real bad cough as well working with resin, so I highly recommend a respirator which I did purchase 💜

Can you use the brand resinart for these?
Would it be ok to use shiny side of freezer paper? Thank you for sharing. Beautiful

@@JulesMadisonArtByDesign I ended up throwing my piece away, I used cellophane for the pour, and I couldn't get the resin separated.
Lily Cessna I hate cellophane too. I use a very thick plastic or the shiny side of contact paper. Keep on though.
Jules Madison ArtPreneur thank you! I have a FB Friend Who uses pieces of a shiny shower curtain, And at times can reuse them!
Ooooh I'm so excited I went to your amazon recommendations and saw some mica powder.. I didn't see you add it in this video, can you? to add some extra bling? Can you use it, in place of the liquid colors?
Lily Cessna absolutely! Just don’t overdo it. Thanks for watching 🌸
I've never used or seen the base lights before...are they thin enough to put right under you vase or do you need to make a base?
Julie Rathe They are about an inch or just under thick. As long as your sculpture has a flat bottom you wouldn’t need a base.
They sell cute little jelly fish on AliExpress for resin art they are so cute and small they would go perfect in doing this piece💜💜💜
lucy Gutierrez I love jellyfish. Thank you for the feedback. And thanks for watching 🌸

Lily Cessna too much affects the results of the resin. 10% pigment to resin is a good rule of thumb.
Can you tell me what make your torch is please, love the ease of use, thanks
Sharon Chandler I cannot remember but my list of recommendations for supplies is in the description below the video and it’s on my Amazon list.
Thank you very much for the reply I will have a look 😊
Do you have a link for your red Petri dish molds ❤️

I want to make a bowl but 10 times bigger than the one you made. Do you know what I can make the form in?
Well you make the form in a huge tray maybe and then you'll need a really tall vessel to hang it over - plus a LOT of resin - good luck 🌸
Could you please tell me what kind of light it is? And is it cordless?
It's cordless - and is available on My Amazon Recommendations - under the lighting section - LED Light Base www.amazon.com/ideas/amzn1.account.AE2VAQ56G46PV7I6WT6UBB4YVKQQ?ref=idea_yil_tab

Can we use polyester resin to make this? I also wanted to ask what is the amount of catalyst that you used on this?
Sirapa Shrestha I’ve never used polyester resin, but probably. Each bowl is approximately 10oz
@@JulesMadisonArtByDesign is it that the layer should be really thin because mine one broke apart when i tried to bend it.
Sirapa Shrestha you perhaps let it set too long.
