I agree with everything you said. I am still willing to take this opportunity to share my opinion on this song. After watching your video I came to the idea that post Malone had his tongue firmly in his cheek. maybe he came up with the poppy sounding lyrics and liked them and did it ironically. That explains his double thumb move, the clean guitars and vocals, the drums, and would probably be a lot of fun, boosting it's carmic chances of becoming a hit.
i think rock guys do listen the lyrics or at least try to ( in my experience anyways ) the thing is if the music along with it is bland and un-interesting then why would you listen to the lyrics? or any of it for that matter, you want the full package of good meaningful lyrics and good musicianship. its not poetry afterall its music ( not that music cant be poetry but poetry on its own cant be music )
@@dainbramage3558 Yep, I think one of the few albums I've been blown away with the lyrics is Aqualung by Jethro Tull, but it was the music that got me interested and was a while later that I noticed the lyrics were so outstanding (bit of an oldie but worth a go if you've not heard it)
Awesome guy, kind, talented. It’s a shame he’s making the music that he does because I genuinely think he’d be capable of making a banging rock n roll record. But if he’s happy, who are we to judge

@@jiveassturkey8849 What?? Why should you judge if you don’t like it then don’t listen to it. That music is still there. You think if you pay to go see an artist play songs you like that means they should make music that like and if he doesn’t you bash him? And he is the one who created the music it’s not all on the fans like we made you guys famous and made you rich. He is the one who started it. It’s on him.
Here's a fun fact. Post Malones father used to be a pretty good pro baseball player called Sam Malone who bought a bar in Boston after an injury forced his retirement from the game, and that bar was called "Cheers", "where everybody knows your name", That little post edit sequence in rhe middle about the difference between hormones and opiates was quite educational and 1000 times more entertaining than Sam Malone jnr's song. I have to ask because it's killing me for the last few episodes, who is the cardboard cutout? Please tell me its knightrider era david hasselhoff, or maybe post malone because that buckle looks familiar. P.S. that fun fact might not actually be fact, it's just something I heard (when I opened my own mouth and the words just fell out),
He did a duet cover with Angus Stone at a performance in Australia and that is the Posty that is great. Wish he would do more songs like that or rock or country. But the labels love the poppy sound.
Wow some of these comments. Just because an artist starts with one genre that you loved doesn’t mean that’s HIS genre. It’s one of them. More and more artists are staying away from being pigeonholed because that’s not all they are. A true artist has many influences and is knowledgeable about all types of music. I guarantee you’d be surprised to know the influences of some of your favorite musicians. They’re well rounded and open minded. That’s why they’re successful. Just because some generally stick to one genre doesn’t mean they don’t listen to and enjoy others. Have you never seen a musician interviewed? I’m always surprised to hear who influenced them and what’s on their playlist. Get over yourselves. If you actually knew much about music, you’d know that. And if you don’t like one song, skip to the next.
Hi Justin. I'm sitting here with my guitar, noodling on the couch and when you did the "nothing wrong with my eyes" bit, I laughed so hard, I couldn't play anymore. I had to put the guitar down and just watch your video. Well played, sir!

You know Trap, it's 808 kicks and lawn sprinkler hi-hats, and you've heard it for 25 years already. Anybody who doesn't believe me, go listen to Slob On My Knob, and check the date on that, and then realize that wasn't underground. That was still a fresh sound when that was released... but it was definitely mainstream. It's older than dubstep. Somehow each generation of kids thinks it's "their" sound, it's funny. There has been some evolution during that time, but the last technological revolution in hip-hop was DAW production, and since then they've been homogenizing everything (acting as if there's some ideal form and ideal production techniques/aesthetic). Sparse subby 808s and lawn sprinklers... you've heard trap a million times in the past quarter century plus. EDIT: screw autocorrect. WTF would "stubby" 807s sound like?!!!🤣
I'd never taken any notice of post malone until he did the lock down nirvana set, then I realised he's actually pretty good. I'm not crazy about every song but in general he's not bad.
Not a terrible song. Definitely not ground breaking at all though. It sounds like a thousand other slow pop songs. I predict that you will hear this at the dentist office very soon.
His vocal is so heavily auto-tuned it sounds like someone playing a human voice on a keyboard, absolutely no idea if Post Malone has any talent at all but I'd be very surprised. In fact, before posting this I just searched Post Malone Live on UA-cam, clicked the first live gig, and his vocal is so heavily auto-tuned in live performances as well that it sounds horrific. Fake it til you make it lads, then ride the gravy train.
I'm not much of a fan of his work and musical style, but he doesn't have to fake anything. If you took a little bit of time to research Post, then you would see he can sing really well without autotune. He can also play guitar quite well, there's a clip of him playing cliffs of dover (slowed down of course) and that's probably more than a lot of people in the comments can play. Again, not a fan of his music at all, but he definitely has a lot of talent.
Just look up the Nirvana livestream he did during lockdown that Justin references, zero autotune and he smashes it. Assuming you like Nirvana that is...
Oxytocin is also released when you are petting your dog and he’s staring into your eyes all lovingly, in both you and your dog. It’s a great way to bond with the animal. Much more nuanced than that pal, well the good stuff anyway, it’s like saying if you wanna play rock, give me 2 chords, a 4/4 drum beat and some mong to sing over the top of it, but it’s not that simple is it…. Or is it??
@@dosedwav I mean my comment wasn't really meant to be taken seriously but you can obviously comically oversimplify any genre like that and it will stil hold a grain of truth
I saw video on youtube of this man singing betterman by Pearl Jam, I think on the Howard Stern Radio show with a guy on acoustic guitar. My ears bled. A crime against music.I nearly threw up.Truly truly biblically awful
Post Mallone actually is a genuine likable artist on a personal level...the sort of guy whos really down to earth etc.....but gotta say I was let down when I gave the music a try....it just sounded like a lot of the other modern mainstream sound that all the genres seem to conform into these days....even a lot of the more "alternative" music just sounds like people singing in a very generic way....over that style of auto generated background music thats been used so many times....that it sounds like the same song over and over. I think thats the problem with over reliance on software in the context of music....there is more potential diversity of sound when artists just make it more about raw creativity.....no matter what the genre.
I couldn't get that impression out of my head either. It's the same song, it's genre-less. I could imagine anyone singing it in any style. It doesn't engage me and quickly annoys me.
It's.....bleh. If you just listen to the song without the video, what would you think? With all the autotuning it could be anyone of a 1000 different singers from today's music landscape. This is as vanilla as it gets. A great philosopher once said something like "it has as much edge as a balloon" and that applies here.
I don't think I could commit to an "always tired" tattoo on my face. I can imagine having a really good night's rest and feeling like a fraud in the morning
Funny thing is... Post Malone is arguably the best country artist we may never actually get to see do any original country music 😅 his cover of a Brad Paisley song for Matthew McConaughey is just fantastic
It would be cool if he released an album where he was just playing an acoustic guitar, maybe with a little band or something. Some of his fans would go ape shit, they're already frustrated that he is becoming more pop and less hip hop. But if you want to country or rock, he would lose some of his core to be sure. But obviously he's experimented with it
I like him. My 23 year old son turned me on to Post Malone. My hubby and I turned our son on on to the Foo Fighters. My hubby had a brain injury in 2020 and was in a coma for a few months. I look forward to the new Foo Fighters on June 2nd. Sorry.... back to Post Malone..he is a good guy. I will always think of my son when I hear him.
He has addressed “auto tune” many times and he uses it as an effect not his voice quality. It’s likely not even auto tune but effects on voice as he is well documented with clean vocals where he crushes it so there should be no debate he can sing. The vocal effects don’t need to be for everyone

Long time fan, first time commenter, love the videos!
Post did a cover of a Brad Paisley song. He did an awesome job. Man has a good voice. Has anyone else seen it?
Yes it's amazing!
Problem is most rock guys don't really listen to the lyrics unless the music is memorable so this would completely pass me by unnoticed.
The lyrics can be outstanding to read, but in a song music still is an important part.
i think rock guys do listen the lyrics or at least try to ( in my experience anyways ) the thing is if the music along with it is bland and un-interesting then why would you listen to the lyrics? or any of it for that matter, you want the full package of good meaningful lyrics and good musicianship. its not poetry afterall its music ( not that music cant be poetry but poetry on its own cant be music )

Who are we to judge? We are literally the people who buy his records or buy tickets to his shows. We are the collectively the people who made him rich and famous: I'd say we are the exact people who should be judging him.

Post Malones father used to be a pretty good pro baseball player called Sam Malone who bought a bar in Boston after an injury forced his retirement from the game, and that bar was called "Cheers", "where everybody knows your name",
That little post edit sequence in rhe middle about the difference between hormones and opiates was quite educational and 1000 times more entertaining than Sam Malone jnr's song.

Worth pointing out that the smoking ban in England actually contained an exception that allowed for smoking on stage and other production sets.

Hello!! I love how you corrected yourself with the oxy.. You are a good good man!!! (I didn't know as well ) I am enjoying your videos.
I think I'd need to take OxyContin to like this song 🤔🤔😬😬
Love the video though Justin.
Curiously off topic here, but has Justin told us why the Hoff cutout is now prevalent in the background? It seems that it is new in that last week or two.
You ended the theme song, you used the chord that is the beginning chord of Emerson Lake and Palmer's song; "In The Beginning" LMAFO!
I don't get it really. His music sounds like all the other crappy mainstream stuff today. Nothing special at all, except he does seem like he has a good attitude. He's always smiling.
I am 55 fem, and I love this man! His music is refreshing, his personality is even more refreshing! So down to earth and just a lovely person, Do I wish he had less tattoos, sure, but he makes you look past them, and well it wouldn't be him without them anymore. I have not bought an actual cd in years but i'm buying this asap! Sweet voice, sweet music, sweet lyrics, the sweetest man! Most albums now a days have one or two decent songs, I can listen to him all day , a whole road trip! 🥰🥰😻😻😻
I have the same microphone. How do you get it to pick up the guitar in addition to the voice? Mine cancels basically anything not direct to voice.
Would love to hear your opinion on the Norwegian band Kvelertak. Love their new song

I'm glad he corrected himself on the "oxytocin" take lmao. I was like no way he goes on without fixing that 😂
Let's be honest, Ren set the bar massively fucking high! Everything I've heard since hearing his work has been pedestrian, grating, or both.
Ditto
I think he definitely encapsulates the spirit of Nirvana. Although, to be fair, the Foo Fighters have gone in a similar direction.
@@boofert.washington2499 😂 same
He will be glad to know you think he's not bad
Not a terrible song. Definitely not ground breaking at all though. It sounds like a thousand other slow pop songs. I predict that you will hear this at the dentist office very soon.
Knowing Posty's love of rock history & guitar hero, he's most likely a fan of yours and can probably play I believe in a thing called Oxytocin ❤
It is distinctly damp. Your brain also makes oxytocin when you cuddle a pet...maybe he should just get a dog?
His vocal is so heavily auto-tuned it sounds like someone playing a human voice on a keyboard, absolutely no idea if Post Malone has any talent at all but I'd be very surprised. In fact, before posting this I just searched Post Malone Live on UA-cam, clicked the first live gig, and his vocal is so heavily auto-tuned in live performances as well that it sounds horrific. Fake it til you make it lads, then ride the gravy train.
I love when people write a paragraph long opinion with little to no education on what they’re giving their opinion on
I'm not much of a fan of his work and musical style, but he doesn't have to fake anything.
@@taylamariea It appears most people disagree with you. Nevermind.
Just look up the Nirvana livestream he did during lockdown that Justin references, zero autotune and he smashes it. Assuming you like Nirvana that is...
@@taylamariea I enjoy a paragraph long analysis. Someone who actually does a bit of research instead of reacting with their own feelings.
Oxytocin is also released when you are petting your dog and he’s staring into your eyes all lovingly, in both you and your dog. It’s a great way to bond with the animal. OxyContin is something I take five or six times a day for some health issues i have, but it also makes me feel very good, much like oxytocin. 😊

@@dosedwav As always, people hear the 2 chords and the back beat and forget simple syncopation. Without it you aren't rocking anyone.
I saw video on youtube of this man singing betterman by Pearl Jam, I think on the Howard Stern Radio show with a guy on acoustic guitar. My ears bled. A crime against music.I nearly threw up.Truly truly biblically awful
That song was dope. No. Wait. It was just fuckin dopey
^ I second this.

Love the videos. @Daxflame whats Alejandro’s video of origin in the Daxflame Universe?
Funny thing is... Post Malone is arguably the best country artist we may never actually get to see do any original country music 😅 his cover of a Brad Paisley song for Matthew McConaughey is just fantastic
It would be cool if he released an album where he was just playing an acoustic guitar, maybe with a little band or something. Some of his fans would go ape shit, they're already frustrated that he is becoming more pop and less hip hop. But if you want to country or rock, he would lose some of his core to be sure.
But obviously he's experimented with it
The little “Lambsy” part of his voice…so sweet.
Good song. Music is so universal: its captures our heart. I'm a metal-head but very good
Not my cuppa Char but hey Ho. Much love tho Jay Hawk you are a dude of the highest calibre. Loving the longer format stuff btw. 😎😎😎

I like him. My 23 year old son turned me on to Post Malone. My hubby and I turned our son on on to the Foo Fighters. My hubby had a brain injury in 2020 and was in a coma for a few months. Our son and I could not listen to the Foo Fighters because it was a trigger... (once happy band we shared) Thankfully , we are okay now. Yet.. it is hard now due to TH passiing.. I look forward to the new Foo Fighters on June 2nd. Sorry.... back to Post Malone..he is a good guy. I will always think of my son when I hear him.
All I can hear is auto-tune, and I'm sorry, but I just can't get past it.
So work on growing up 🥱
bro just literally throw shit on the nicest musician because of autotune
He has addressed “auto tune” many times and he uses it as an effect not his voice quality. It’s likely not even auto tune but effects on voice as he is well documented with clean vocals where he crushes it so there should be no debate he can sing. The vocal effects don’t need to be for everyone
I thought that at first. Took a few listens to get over it. Now I love it. Stick with it 🤘🏽
