I actually feel that running 4-5 miles 4 times a week (varying speeds, some days ill jog along at like over 9 min mile pace and others at about 7-7:30 min pace, which to me is fast, Im not a fast runner by any means) a week helps with my lifting, makes it feel easier to get in more reps.

Fair point, but I do think combat arms, especially if you’re getting to the level of airborne/SOF, still require high levels of endurance that necessitate steady state cardio. Lifting is incredibly beneficial, too, but you can’t tell me that squatting alone and hitting only three runs before your test is going to prepare you to carry a 70 pound rucksack miles up a mountainside. You have to be a well-rounded athlete.
I used powerlifting as a quintessential example of “strength only at the expense of any and all conditioning”.
Look, Rip is great for one thing: getting novice lifters to an early intermediate level in terms of raw strength. But he’s gotta stay in his lane with this conditioning debate. Unless you are competing in a strength sport, you’re almost invariably better off sacrificing a bit of poundage on your total in the name of some conditioning. You can still emphasize strength to a massive degree.

3 runs only before a 2 mile test? No way that a person who doesn't have a serious base of endurance training in the past will run a competitive time after having ran 3 times. Something pathetic like a 18 minute 2 mile? Probably. Under 15? Nope. Sorry. That just doesn't happen out here in the real world where novice runners spend months building up to a 35+ minute 5 k.

I will agree that 3 runs in 14 days may not get the job done but for me, i would run every other day in a 2 week period. Each run i would increase the distance and pace. I was ready for the police recruit test every time.

When I was in my twenties I trained in karate 5 or 6 times a week. I never run for more than 5 minutes at a time only as a warm up before stretching. But if required would run 2 miles under 15 any time no problem! You do not have to run regularly or at all to pass that test. All you need is a good physical shape which can be achieved in many ways. I am 55 now and wouldn't do running if you paid me: I value my joints' health and my mobility. Kettlebell training gives me all the conditioning that I need and without taking much time!

Look here and you better believe it brother you better not cut out your strength training at all when you're going to get tested for your cardiovascular fitness test running a mile.
Fact that you are already in the military you are already adapted to running your mile.
so just get more adapted to strength training 3 days a week like he said.
And if you are younger than the age of 40 you should be able to go running 5 days a week along with strength training Monday Wednesday and Friday that's just my opinion.
But don't let anything interfere with your strength training!

We did this for cross country in high school. I’d pretty much take the summer off from running and lose much of my endurance. Then two weeks before school started we’d run every day and every other day was a two-a-day. Holy shit it’s amazing how effective those two weeks alone conditioned us.

You already had lots of conditioning from previous endurance exercise, which just shows that Rip's claims are silly. If you've trained for endurance for a long time and then stop, it comes back way quicker for you than for someone who hasn't done any endurance exercise at all.

It's no good just training for the test in the armed forces. On normal scheduled PT you cannot be seen to be regularly falling behind and gasping like your having an asthma attack. It just will not do. Especially of your an NCO or officer. Concentrating most of your time developing strength as a priority then when working on conditioning when you need it is obviously the best way to do things. But it is a luxury not afforded to most people in the military.
