Just performed my 150 hour maintenance. At 100 hours I installed the 3D printed wipers and they do a FANTASTIC job. I highly recommend them. Hard to get in at first, but at 150 hours they came off easily and went back in easily. I used a thin rod to knock the 3D plugs out. Compared to 100 hours, there was hardly any dust in the ball nuts or factory wipers.
The fabric on the sides is a great idea! I watched the bottle opener video before this one and didn't even notice them since they blend in so nicely. After a few months, how are they holding up?
Appreciate the time you took to out this together. I’m just hitting 100 hours on my 1F and need to do the maintenance and this was a perfect example and breakdown - so thank you. Hopefully you’ve figured out how to salvage your bottle openers 😬🤙🏼
Hey just curious about your final thoughts on the ball screw curtains. I'm thinking of doing the same but before I dive in figured I would check with you since it's been quite awhile ago you recorded this
Excellent video. Just recently received my onefinity and am in the process of setting it up, but this video will definitely be helpful in the future! I’ve seen “ball screw wipers” on Etsy and debated purchasing them - do you think they’d do much in preventing dust from accumulating by the bearings or are they kind of a gimmick? Would be interested in your thoughts. Thanks again for a great video!
So I have seen those, but I've never used them. So I really can't say how well they work. But I do know that after a week of having run the machine with the curtains on, its soo much better!
quick question, I was able to clean my left y axis ballscrew but can not get the right y axis ballscrew to pull away from gantry.Same for the x axis ball screw. I removed the screws including the oil port. It seems like they are frozen on. I tried flooding with oil, blowing out dust with air etc and still can not get the ballscrew to move off the gantry. Any thoughts?
Lol that's what I was saying to do in a comment months ago. Glad you did it boy it didn't need the ol mother-in-law lol. Some pieces of cardboard could have done it. Way to go! Curious on how well it works.
Yeah the plywood or the cardboard I think would still be too thick. When the machine homes it knocks up against the side, so I know the fabric won't mess with it. Cardboard might still work though! Just think the fabric looks nicer. From what I've seen on a few carves at this point, it does a great job! But time will tell!
@@hcamardelle shop.sendcutsend.com/ham-crafted So its actually cheaper to get them cut than ordering just the material lol. I have mine cut at .75" in .125" thickness. Hope that helps! (I hand stamp the brass for each one, but a fiber laser could really do some cool stuff!)
No I don't. But I also didn't have a heavy water cooled spindle on my last one. So if you're going makita- I think no third rail is fine. If you're getting into mounting heavy things you might want to get the third rail
Have you ever looked for and found a collet replacement for the makita router? Maybe my brain is just mushy, but I couldn't find anything that was really specific. I had a collet bend on me when a carve went all wrong (bit got stuck in the work piece), and I think the collet got so damaged the bits don't spin straight. Ended up buying another dang router because I couldn't find a for sure collet replacement.
Yeah I've been able to find a few direct replacements, but I really want a different way to tighten them... I don't think they make too many upgrades for the collet, sadly.
Its mainly an average. I run my machine around 5 hours each day- so 25 hours a week and 100 a month, so this would be my montly maintenance. Wonder if Onefinity will ever update the controller to track machining time?
@@HamiltonDilbeck Thanks for the reply! I have the Journeyman ordered and I'm coming from a Longmill CNC. I don't have a regular usage schedule so I really don't know how much time I put into it. I'll have to try tracking my time somehow once the Onefinity arrives.
air is your worst enemy besides the dirt and grime. All you are doing is blowing the dirt deeper into the crevices. I use vacuuum and a quality synthetic bristle paint brush to remove all the dirt and grime then oil everywhere

OOO I really like the concept of the cloth over the sides lol. Might give it a go. I'd love to hear how effective it was in a future video.
Love those freaking curtains. I’ve actually had sawdust build up and block the rail and throw it out of square.

Appreciate this video on the routine maintenance, please let us know how those curtains work over time. And looking forward to the torture test video!
Thanks will do!
Only other maintenance I do is blow off any dust and do a quick wipe down after each job, takes 2 minutes. Great video by the way!
Thanks!
Hi Hamilton, great idea on the fabric and learning a ton. Thanks man! ~ Al

glad i subscribed ur channel...and ur video just pop up on my utube algorithm... just so I don't waste entire life to find information like this..
haha thanks!
i like your curtain idea. ive been doing the same thing. thanks for the idea
Always worth checking screws for tightness. I had a bolt fall out of the back of my gantry during a cut and still have no idea where it goes back!?!
Thats a good one! So many screws...
Wow this was so helpful! I've been running my 1F dry and should probably oil her up
Yep, thanks for watching!
Where's the link for the clips you used to attach the curtains? Excellent idea! Plus, I can sew (no MIL required)

here ya go!
I'm surprised you didn't tram the router before leveling the spoil board. I know my z is off. Trying to come up with anything else to do but go fix it

Good video! How wide is each piece of your spoilboard? I just upgraded to the X-50 and am starting my spoilboard shortly. Thanks!
Yep, ill have an update about it in the future!
@@HamiltonDilbeck also would love know a source for the brass logo inserts you’re using. Don’t make us beg. LOL

does your end mill have a shoulder stop on the shank?
I know you have the new elite series with the stiffy. Do you notice any difference with the stiffy

Thank you. That has been the debate for me when I order. I’ll be using them Akita so I guess I’ll save a few bucks and not get it.

So they recommend oil and not grease for the ball screws? Is that due to it being in a dusty application?
Not sure why, but they recommend 3in1
Does the Z-axis & router get bound up in the curtain when you're doing work close to the X axis extremes?
From what I've seen over the last few cuts, it doesn't get bound up at all. But time will tell!
You should sell those curtains. I'm in ordering mode :)
Lol, I told my MIL that she should sell them and a few people might buy them. She said $100 and shes in!
Do you want to come up the mountain and do maintenance on mine too? I've been avoiding it 😆
I'll be right there, lol!
@@HamiltonDilbeck then swing by my place in Johns Creek when you're done with his 🤣
Have you tried using 3d printed wipers.
I haven't tried those, but I've heard good things!
Hey Hamilton…did you receive my sticker?
Yes I did! Yours will be in the mail next week! Thanks for sending it over!
RE: Sadness. What's wrong with the bottle openers?
My dumb butt scaled the size off of the toolpath rather than the vector so they are all too small.
Was it a mistake with the machine or human error ?
100% Human error. Sadly.
wood putty fixes what duct tape cant lol
Me too brother, mistakes….

You're gonna try and make bowls, mess that up then totally toss them in the dumpster dude
