Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thanks for the turkey talk.
Good teacher!
Man you are so right, I hunt a private farm and the Turkeys some days will not make a peep lol then some days they Gobble all around you Turkeys will be Turkey I know when I hunt Geese I can have the best goose Decoys out but the geese will go right by they know where they want to go, sometimes you can pull them in but it is better to be where they want to go. Good luck Dale.
Exactly my turkey hunting brother 👍👍👍u said it correct
Thank you so much for the video. This is my first Turkey season and I will definatly put this knowledge to good use.
Love your videos! I'm just getting into the world of turkeys and your videos have been an excellent place to start and learn
Everyday is a lesson. What have learned today?
I learned alot, now to put it to use. No two hunts are the same. Turkey being Turkeys.
Thank you for sharing Dale.
Right day Right bird bang😁😁
Should I hen yelp to a Tom gobbling from roost before fly down to let him know where I am or wait until fly down?
I really appreciate you Dale! I never had anyone to teach me how to turkey hunt! The first year I never seen a turkey. I watched you videos all off season and next season tagged out in Mississippi and was able to record my first turkey I ever killed and I done it all myself, called him in and everything because of your wisdom! This will be my 3rd year of turkey hunting! I just wish I had someone like you I could go with and learn. People that have that need to really appreciate it! Because it’s hard learning with no one and no experience! So thank you Dale! I’ll be getting me your box call! I got 8,000 acres in Mississippi to hunt if you ever find your way to North Mississippi come show me how it’s done!
I have had alot of success getting in where they just were. "That Road runner" bird. I have been busted a thousand times trying to get in front of them. I like to sneak in behind them where they were, minutes before, and turn them around. Love your videos Matt!!
I totally agree with you, I got my turkey late in may this year and 5 Gobblers came in silent. Hunter shy is more like it, good vids Dale.
I’ve heard over and over that gobblers get call shy. I just believed it cause it was told to me but damn I’ll have to say I never thought of it till just now how it’s not real.🤦♂️
I feel stupid actually lol it’s just behavior. Damn Matt you are a turkey hunting genius! I’m a new subscriber and been watching videos I’ve missed. This was the best yet!! So glad I found this channel. Why couldn’t I found it a few years back lol
Hey Dale....looking forward to put this knowledge to use up here...trail cam has been showing tons of birds but i get skunked every year, hopefully using this info this year will be different...thanks
Hi Bob
Any chance that you live between ottawa and kingston... would love to help you get that first gobbler.
Best of luck!
Nothing beats turkey hunting
I'm headed out to try my hand with my grandpa this weekend first time sense I was about 10. I started coyote calling a few years back and saw how cool calling animals is so I can't wait to learn this! Call shy is a term used a lot in the coyote hunting community. But I've found it's an excuse the best callers I've listened to say that's a myth too you just have to know how they think! Thanks for all the info
Dale, great last two videos. Been experiencing those "turkeys being turkeys" here in Iowa the past two seasons. Thanks for the info. Keep it coming
I've hunted spring turkey in Iowa a few times and never heard a gobble but always got a bird. They came right to me just silently
What about the turkey that gobbles on the roost can you get Tight maybe 100 yards and you do a soft tree up any shuts up for about 10 minutes and then he stays on the roost till 8 o’clock and flies down and goes dead silent
Just got your box call love it sounds good
Thanks for your purchase.
Glad you like it. It’s a good one
New here.Have hunted Turkeys for quite some time.Have experienced all of those behaviors. But never knew why.So thank so much for the knowledge. And I subscribed.
Hunter shy 👍👍👍👍👍
i know my property and i think i know where the turkey are and i've been calling and not herd anything but i did see one hen , will the turkey move around like deer ? is using a hen decoy messing me up or is that ok , am I calling to much ? They don't have any pressure on my property no one but me in the woods
Just moved back to the states from Germany... This will be my first year Turkey hunting and I can not wait to get out there! Been watching your videos to hope and be ready to go come April 1st here in South Carolina!
Dale thanks for your videos. I’ve Turkey hunted my entire life as well as my father. Many many birds killed between the two of us. We don’t use blinds or decoys like most people on tv. All the teach is sit in a blind with decoys and just wait. We don’t like that. Many people ask about calling. My answer is 99% of the birds we kill are based on getting in position. Not how good of a caller you are. Be where he’s comfortable going and you’ll have a greater chance. Especially with those 4+ year old birds that don’t talk much. Get where he wants to be.
Your preaching to the choir dale. I hunt that turkey most of time. You gotta now where they want to be.
Totally agree with ya man, always look forward to Turkey season and watching your videos.
I agree 100% on the henned up gobblers. I like to stay in listening distance to wait for the gobbler to fire up again. I use to go back to camp early not knowing I missing the best part of the day, the mid morning hunt!
I've seen heavily pressured birds in a field as soon they hear a call they run lol
I’ve seen this happen on heavily pressured birds too. One time I was able to stop a pressured gobbler that got spooked from a plain Yelp and started running away in a field. I got him to come back and take a look With a kee kee run sequence. A plain yelp almost scared him to death. He hung up 50yds out and Lost interest after a while
Same here. One Gobbler sprinted out of a field when,I called. Another of Pressure!
had a nice flock walk right by the house in the field. about 25 or so. that time is a coming
If coyotes are in the area turkeys won't gobble once they hit the ground
Another great video.
Thanks dale. For all the knowledge from a real turkey hunter. I just received my ol sly mouth call 2.5 yesterday it sounds great 👍
My 97 year old grandpa said that him and his friends would sometimes intentionally bust them off the roost the evening before a hunt, with the intentions of hopefully scattering the turkey's. A gobbler hates sleeping alone without hens, especially hens he knew he should've been waking up with the next morning. When he told me this years and years ago i thought the old man had lost his mind lol. Boy was i wrong! I've since tried it a few times over the years on birds that were "call shy" ya just gotta make sure you're the first hen he hears calling the next morning bcuzz he's gonna be trying to gather his harem of hens back up asap. I've had gobblers dang near run up my gun barrel the next morning, but ya better stay alert and ready bcuzz oftentimes they'll come running full sprint before another gobbler can claim that hen. "That "hen" being you. Now it doesn't always work, but, as a last resort I'll definitely try it. My favorite saying when it comes to turkey hunting is that "the only guarantee is that there are no guarantees". That pretty much sums up turkey hunting, as well as life in general. I love your videos, you should do one on busting them off the roost the evening before a hunt. I'll be giving them heck here in my hometown in Florida come opening morning. Good luck to all this spring, and remember to aim small, miss small.
The bird I killed last year wouldn't say anything. I spotted him at 100 yds and crawled into 40yds using trees and terrain. He come into 30 yds. Biggest bird I ever shot.
Nice job!
Where I hunt there is more than human hunters. I have had at least 4 hunts that coyotes have come to my calls. I think this will keep them from being vocal also.. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the turkey
Yeah, it's really annoying to see about 3 gobblers in a tree early season and Crow call or Owl hoot to them and they won't gobble. frustrating lol
Can't wait for Spring Turkey Season!!!
Great advice again! I'd add that you know the area enough to find preferred travel areas for those quiet mornings and have some pre-set natural blinds to use as a default for quiet mornings. Also, if it is unseasonably cold, they may crank up around 10 or so when the air temperature warms up. I've shot many that didn't make a sound, or gobbled as they approached hen decoys as they came up on one of my strategic blinds.
I have run into all 5 so far and im a first year guy man what chess match
100% correct
Hey I was waiting on U to gobble Chief!
I got the ol sly 2.0 mouth call and the double trouble cherry slate call as well for this year I’m a rookie hunter never had a dad to show me how to so I turn to UA-cam
Thanks for your purchase.
Appreciate it
Dale another trick for then henned up gobbler is stay in your spot . Depends on your time frame in my 3 years of doing this I’ve found around 11-2pm the hens sneak off for egg laying. And then he raises his head “ where did my women go ?” ( gobble ( gobble ) then I do your trick of make him gobble twice for every call . I haven’t been able to close the deal yet but that’s how I deal with this Turkey because it works .The quiet stalker scratching leaves whines clucks and purrs . And boom you hear the drumming
Again, more good content. I hunt smaller ' city' woods. Scouting is my best chance. The problem is, here in PA. the season doesn't start till May. The bigger problem is we cannot run and gun/ spot and stalk. Any suggestions, please. Thanks.
Later today the new video will address this very subject 🤙
Dale could you make a video showing how to make a turkey skin mount like I see hanging on your wall?
I plan on filling the walls in my house with them from the tips I’ve learned from you.
Good stuff Dale! Hit the like button gents
I agree with everything ..except I have seen feeding toms that are content hear a call and
Literally kick up dust running away..sometimes they know
Great video. I agree with you on the pressure. I hunt public land and times can be tough to say the least. I do not believe in call shy either as pressure is usually the trigger and yes if you are not a realistic sounding caller they can bolt. Got to be realistic so practice practice and patience. Don't give up. Remember that turkey still has to feed, strut, breed, etc. so use that in your favor. I'm not a professional by any means, shoot I would say novice at best but I consistently take turkey and deer on public land year after year while others say there are no animals lol, ya gatta be kidding right lol.
Dale if you ever get down around south Alabama shoot me a message. I’ve got sole turkey rights to 1k acres.
Private message me on Facebook I’ll be in Alabama next month.
Never know I may be in your area or close by.
Dale I'd like to share something with you, my neighbor ordered eastern turkeys to raise and he is a turkey hunter as well, we would play with calls an get them to shock gobble like crazy. But one of his gobblers couldn't make the sound he would throw his head an do the motions but he would barely make a vibrating sound similar to the drum sound, so after seeing that I wonder if any wild gobblers cant gobble?
My first season is coming up and You've expanded how much I know by light years. Thank you:)
That is exciting man, hope you have a great season!!! Number one piece of advice that every beginning turkey hunter needs to hear...RESIST THE URGE TO CALL EVERY 30 SECONDS LOL!!!
Turkey hunting is not worth it at all not fun at all
You keep talking turkeys you’re gonna turn into one
