      That would be really cool, but then you'd have to position it so the grinder fed into the filter basket and also incorporate a means to level the bed. Maybe have the coffee filter rotate with a servo motor so the grounds are fed in a bit more consistently? You could also run the servo during the brew cycle to ensure that the bed is being wet evenly. It would also be great if there were a butterfly valve at the bottom of the filter holder that would close a set amount of time after the brew cycle has concluded so it doesn't keep dripping into where the cup should have been. Unfortunately, using a pressure displacement brew mechanism like this does mean that you lose out on a lot of the brew variable controls that you have with pump-style mechanisms, since it's difficult to halt the delivery of water to allow for a bloom or granularly control the flow rate of the water to the brew basket.

    Back in the early 90’s I was a widowed single mom of three that worked and went to University. I had some cheap little four cup coffee maker that brewed into a thermal carafe. My alarm would go off, I’d hit the switch on the coffee maker, hit snooze on the alarm, and fall back asleep. Before the snooze alarm went off I’d slowly wake up to the smell of coffee brewing. There were many days where I’m pretty certain that was the only thing that was able to wake me up in the mornings!

      someone else above suggested a version with a grinder so the coffee doesn't oxidize overnight. like have the grinder on the back side so it can dump the grounds into the filter, maybe a vibrating mechanism to level the grounds just before brewing, or connect the grinder to the filter holder stand so the grinding vibrates the grounds level.

      a lot of that palate comes from repetition and focus. it happens a lot in alcohol as well. if a person isn't well versed in different tastes they can't focus on those tastes so they take a backseat to the much stronger standard 'coffee' taste.

    actually! from what I've read up on the internet, this might be for people who have trouble waking up in the morning! it might not be the case of having a freshly brewed cup the second you wake up, but stimulating more senses.
    usually people wake up with only an alarm, so they wake up their sense of hearing- which might not be enough. others recommend setting up lights to switch at a specific hour so that the eyes get stimulated as well. I can imagine the smell of a pour over right next to your nose (and the sounds the machine makes) will work wonders! i know i wouldn't hit snooze lol

    • @GraemeGunn
      @GraemeGunn 3 роки тому +9

      Actually, that sounds like how they marketed the product. It's not some new way that someone discovered to help people wake up in the mornings.
      Willpower is the best thing for you in the morning. You don't need "extra excuses" to start your day (unless you're clinically depressed, in which case, this machine won't help.
      It's totally for people who want a fresh cup of coffee as soon as they wake up.

      Other people are built differently. When someone tells me they have trouble waking up, I don't judge them to lack willpower. I assume it's simply more difficult for them than it is for me.

      Aye, I got a teasmade while I was in sixth form so I could have something to roll out of bed with. It worked well, and probably still does wherever it's ended up. Obviously it wasn't anywhere near as pretty as the Bariseur with its wholly Bakelite exterior and it only really boiled water and poured it into a pot, but it did the job and had a flat top so I could keep things on it and not lose beside table space.

Say you only have 5 minutes in between meetings (or, no time at all), you can set it at your desk and set it to brew at a specific time since you don't have time to go and make coffee. You'll put the fresh coffee grounds only a few hours before at the most, so it won't oxidize as much. Cool!

    Most coffee makers have a timer built into them anyways. So although this item is beautiful it doesn't seem to have any actual practical real-world applications. Just a cool gimmick if you feel like wasting money. I am amazed that it doesn't come with a stir stick after all the thought put into this machine, even with the refrigerating section for milk, it's weird how they forget to include a stirrer.
    Also, this machine reminds me of this one contraption on an inventor reality show where they wanted to wake up with freshly made bacon. It was a clock attached to a frying pan that you would put on your nightstand. Very silly very impractical.

They've been around since the late 30s and i am surprised it took them so long to make a coffee version. The difference between the Barisieur and the Teas made is that the teas made retails for about £50 ($67) whereas the Barisieur costs £345/$445 and is made of glass.

    I feel like the desk idea is best. That's probably where you're taking your coffee anyway, and it would encourage me to get to work.
    If I had this I would immediately take it apart to see how they made a tiny refrigerated container for milk.

    Something like this for tea was somewhat common in England in the 70s and 80s. I stayed in a B&B in London in 2004 that still had them in some of the rooms. (Regrettably, due to the difference in frequency British alarm clocks don't work in America, or I would've bought one years ago!)

      Like I also have one for my Japanese DVD player and my mom has one for her French espresso machine

    It's a cool piece and looks amazing. We have a similar thing here in the UK called a teasmade back in the 70s (seem to be quite popular again buying vintage ones). Love the idea of this as a desk feature though.

    It's a cool idea. Personally if I wanted coffee brewed when I woke up, I'd wire up a relay to a solid drip brewer and use If This Than That to brew when my alarm is deactivated. Or alternatively, drip brewers like ones from Sage/Breville let you directly set a time. I do love the chemistry-esque design. Reminds me of my favourite way of making coffee, my siphon brewer.

    So, most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman Grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill, I go back to sleep again. Then I wake up to the smell of crackling bacon.

    I can imagine setting this up on a dresser or sideboard under a window would be nice. The alarm and the coffee give you an incentive to get out of bed to get the coffee and maybe open the blinds but you still have the luxury of getting back in bed and drinking it. My depression says yes loool

  • @louisd95714
    @louisd95714 2 роки тому +2

    This is a beautiful coffee maker! It reminds me of the MoccaMaster. But in my opinion it is simply overkill, and not sure how safe it is working next to a bedside. Even if it doesn't cause any accidents in itself, there is always an opportunity for human error to accidentally spill the hot coffee onto the bed or onto the owner. In my opinion, it makes more sense to set a regular alarm clock, and set a programmable coffee maker to the desired time to wake up.

    I could see this in the studio apartment I had as an undergrad. I had an automatic/timed percolater, but it tended to get jammed up and overflow, which was never a fun thing to wake up to.
    Also, putting this on a nightstand just seems like a situation waiting for you to knock it off in the middle of the night… or your cats to.
