    I would have added Seal's debut, George Michael's "Listen Without Prejudice", Deee-Lite's "World Clique", Paul Simon's "Rhythm Of The Saints" and Living Colour's massive "Time's Up" album. Still play those often. Logic, I was 16 and music really sticks at that age.

      Hey man! Yeah great picks.I’ve had a couple of suggestions for World Clique. I actaually bought that album day of release, but gave it away a few months later...to be honest I was a bit of an unpredictable mess back in those days..not like now! 😆 If I showed you a list of albums I just gave away for free back then you would weep! Some absolute classics, I remember giving someone Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins..that’s worth about £200 now! 😂 Cheers my friend , always appreciated. 😊

      Hi Maria! there’s been a few votes for ‘World Clique’ in the comments I actually bought it day of release on vinyl..& then gave it away months later, but that wasn’t unusual for me..I gave a lot of great (and now very expensive) records away in those days! Hope all is well with you! 😊

    Your mention of Our Price brought back memories of very expensive CDs. Yes, Bona Drag is fantastic. I missed out a bit on solo Morrissey at first so when I finally caught up with that album I wasn’t even aware that some tracks were b-sides.
    I have Heavenly Pop Hit on 12” - what a corker!

      Hello! Yeah as soon as I heard ‘Heavenley Pop Hit’ it was love at first listen! The prices of CDs back then was outrageous...but I kept buying them..it was fraud in plain sight. I remeber when Tomorrow’s World spread jam on them to demonstrate they would still play....half of mine were knackered after about 3 listens. In fact I’ve just played that ‘Chill Out’ by the KLF in the car..& it grinds to a mysterious halt with two tracks to go 😂 I’m off to spread some jam on it, Maybye that will help!

    Hi Harris, 1990 reminds me of Ninja Tune, Acid Jazz & Talkin Loud labels/acts. Some interesting musical fusions coming out and there seemed to be a wave of optimism in the U.K. Favourite album that year was probably Eric B & Rakim’s “Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em”.

    • @Harrispilton22
      @Harrispilton22  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi Ed! I started getting into Ninja Tune about 1994. I remeber buying an early Shadow cd single & a few comps, always seemed to work better on a single, the albums could bet a bit samey ! Yeah Eric B & Rakim were top tier, my favourite tune of theirs is ‘Know The Ledge’ which actually might be my favourite hip hop tune ever. The baseline on that is incredible, absolute neck snapper!

    El Segundo was the town I discovered John Fahey in. A girl in a bookstore was playing him. Also saw Pharoah Sanders there in a club.
    1990 gave us Vehicle by The Clean, great albums by Galaxie 500, American Music Club, Throwing Muses, Yo La Tengo, and the only Sundays album worth owning. I know there was more but my mind has gone blank. Happens more often the more senile I get.

    Hi Harris. Some fantastic records there. Prefab Sprout was one of those bands that I didn't really pay a great deal of attention to at the time, but I have really gotten into retrospectively. Morrissey is a bit of a dichotomy for me. Politically, he's a total arsehole but he's damn good at what he does musically. I would have included Jane's Addiction, Ritual de lo Habitual, and Slayers seasons in the Abyss too. Thanks so much for the kind words you left in the comments in Robs video, you're one of the genuinely nicest blokes in the vc. Cheers Harris 😊👍.

    1990 was one of the best years in music, if not the best. You could easily make another equaly good Top 15 with records by Happy Mondays, Pixies, The La's, Cocteau Twins, Mazzy Star, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Sundays, Pet Shop Boys, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Sinead O' Connor, The Heart Throbs, Inspiral Carpets, The House Of Love, Dead Can Dance and James.
    Additionally you had Loaded, Come Together, the Glider EP, What Time Is Love and Groove Is In The Heart.

I wasn't aware of current drama in the VC but I guess I'm not looking in the right places. I'm glad you're not really trying to start anything with us Canadians, even though I'm a non-ponytailed, non-Rush fan type of Canadian. I think I'm actually on some sort of watch-list because I posted on the internet that I think the Rush singer sounds like a cat being mistreated. I had to look at what I had from 1990, and I had The Pixies, Pogues and Waterboys among my favourites, as well as the Hindu Love Gods - a one time only album by Warren Zevon with REM (minus their singer).

Her collaboration with The KLF is fun, but hardly her finest moment. I just got her album Ways To Love A Man from 1970, a fabulous record. The title track, is immense. The only thing I can identify with here in 1990 (I was out of the country that's my excuse) is that I used to have the 23 Envelope/4AD posters set and one of them was that Breeders album cover. I must have missed the recent drama. There was a little drama from time to time in the early days of this community. This is going back eight to twelve years. But it was always corrected quickly. Most to all of the parties involved are gone. I knew that you were going to pull out Bona Drag Harris. You just had to. I was hoping and depending on you to do so. It is a brilliant collection of some of Moz's strongest material. Speaking of which. His two new albums that are completely completed are still waiting for a label to bite. My guess is they will not see the light of day. But he can release them as a double record set. Or use the tracks as b-sides. Now that Alain White is gone I will not expect much. Alain is playing with ex-Moz members Gary Day, Spencer Cobrin, Gus Manzur and ex-Smiths member Craig Gannon. Brilliant lineup. I never heard a bad Tribe Called Quest album. Wonderful 90's selections Harris. Stoked that the VC still has some top notch channels like this one~

I may try & pick it up next time, it ran from the fifties to the eighties, looked great! Hope all is well mate. Have a great time in Leeds, look forward to hearing about it! 😃

    Hey, Harris. Nice selections! If you like The Caution Horses but not keen on the production, check out the album Sharon, issued in 2022. It’s the original performance of Caution Horses captured on a single mic a la The Trinity Sessions. Why they scrapped it in favor of the full-blown studio recording, I don’t know. Anyway, highly recommended. Hands across the water! Cheers

      Wow, that’s interesting. Going to Definately check that out as I feel this was the peak of their songwriting, I’m actually a bit hit & miss with The Trinity sessions, probably need to pull that up again & listen with fresh ears, I was hitting my grunge phase when I bought it 😂 Thanks, much appreciated! 😊

    Predator is the peak Ice Cube record. Until Westside Connection’s first album, that is (aka the last gangsta rap album worth a sh1t). Surprised any elderly people didn’t get lost on the hip hop shown here. Maybe there’s hope for the vinyl community after all! 😂

      @Harrispilton22  7 місяців тому

      Hey Chance! Yeah Predator is still underrated imo. That opening track with the Queen sample (When will they shoot?) just knocked my head off when I first heard it. The DJ Muggs stuff has aged better than The Bomb Squad production. Beleive it or not I’ve never heard the WC album, will hop on Spotify now! Cheers Chance appreciated as always! 😊

    Ah, the Bomb Squad. Revolutionary at the time, but even then they always had the potential to overload their tracks with noise. At the time, my friend Brian said Public Enemy sounded like "a traffic jam." Fear Of A Black Planet pretty much walked that line, sometimes teetering toward the cacaphonic (not a word) side of things.
    As for the VC - I love seeing all these people complain about it. I don't understand it. It's like a bunch of grade school children screaming at each other, where they all look ridiculous in their seriousness, but you stand back and sorta giggle to yourself.
    Harris, is that a wall-phone in the background?! Was this video recorded in 1990 and beamed into the future?!

      Hi M! Yeah I listened to ‘Fear’ again last night & it was pretty exhausting..but when it’s good it’s sounds like no one else. That is a wall phone, it’s the old security phone for my flat (apartment) now if someone rings the door my phone goes off, unfortunately everyone in my block has linked there door to my phone...my living room now resembles an Amazon warehouse! 😂

    So Breeders were doing this whole quite/loud, but not on there. And it has you fave Beatles song, but in a pretty weak version? Sorry Harris, you didn't get the job.
    FIVE alBums I would put in a top 15 of 1990 ^^ : Meat Beat Manifesto 99%, A guy Called Gerald's Automatik, Unique 3's Jus' Unique, Sonic Boom's Spectrum, Loop's A Guilded Eternity

      Hey Stunty, I’ve never heard ‘Automatik’ I got burned by Hot Lemonade! It’s not my fault the Breeders did a bad version of ‘Happiness’ 😂 I’ve got the 12” of Loop”s . ‘Decision Time’ which is my favourite of theirs. Actually ‘Doe’ is a bit Quiet Loud Quiet and ‘Glorious’ has a very Never ind baseline! I’ll redo the whole video! 😆

    Lucky I am here in the Outer Rim of VC. So disharmony waves are very lame when arrives here... Early 90s were full grindcore for me... Public Enemy is only I have, and maybe Ice-T as CD. Nowadays In listen 90s brit pop quite a lot, because I have common spotify list with my daughter, who seem to like 90s stuff.

      Hi Tommy. I had a brief moment with Grindcore as John Peel was playing loads of it. In fact I showed my Napalm Death Peel sessions album on here. I used to listen to A.C (can’t type the name 😂) I like the idea of you & your daughter listen to Pulp & Elastica! Thanks my friend, hope all is well! 😊

      @@Harrispilton22 Yeah, John Peel introduced grindcore with Napalm Death. Still remember the late summer night in our cabin listening Peel session from radio and Divine Death starts playing.... Pulp is regular in our playlist.

    UK US VC friction surely not?! Wonder who started that up? Not me or you for that matter. Some is friendly rivalry some not. I'm not dishing the dirt here thats for sure I'd text you rather. 1990 was the year I think i went from zero to hero record shop minor celebrity at least in my mind...... I still liked Madonna but bought things like that Codeine not fully understanding what it was all about.
    New Kim Gordon album out next week sounds good it's rare i buy new stuff but this one I'm going for.
    My mate went up at Anfield last week he's a saints season ticket holder looks like the red machine is back in full effect and my lot the arse(nal) will struggle to keep up now. Hopefully their next manager will be Graeme Souness like......

      Hey Martin, I agree, I’m really enjoying the new Kim Gordon stuff. ‘Bye,Bye’ is a great tune, almost like industrial hip hop, I’m thinking of getting the album too. Yeah this video was slightly tongue in cheek, but I did watch a stream where USA v U.K. seemed to be becoming a thing. I just thought it was a bit daft! People continually talking about channels they don’t like....well don’t watch them then 😂 Are you going up to Leeds? Feel free to ping me a message, or I might message you even later today! Speak soon fellah! Sheffield on Monday..potential Potato Skin for The Gooners! 😂

    I just logged onto utube to check out this RAYE character who won some awards tonight. Mindnumbing AI generated pseudo Jazz pastiche. Your singing is better than hers. What a bleak time we live in for pap muzak, as bad as the 80's? Drawing a blank for 1990, although I did buy the Peaks vinyl, as to why?, soon found out as is usually the way the music without the visuals lacks purpose or merit. Depeche Mode, are you going to embody the psyche of a 14 year old girl until the grim reaper arrives!

      Someone said the was the Brits last night? I had no idea as I threw out my TV after three weeks of watching Johnson’s 5pm Covid updates & not surprisingly my mental health improved instantly, never felt the need to replace it. I get all the entertainment I need from watching the wonderful VC 😂 I literally cannot remember if I watched Twin Peaks or not?

      @@Harrispilton22 What is often overlooked about Twin Peaks was the lovely ladies in tight fitting attire, which subliminally enticed a certain calibre of viewer and explained why it was callled Twin Peaks! If Boris has performed a rap tune in a shiny tracksuit about Covid you'd have kept the TV!
