It's still insane looking back at the homegrown offense the Marlins had from 2015-2017. Granted, the '15-'16 seasons weren't amazing offense-wise, but they had the makings there, they just needed some help. But the 2017 Marlins? With better pitching instead of penny pinching by their owner, they easily make the playoffs. But instead of supplementing that homegrown offense with pitching (à la mid to late 2000's Brewers), instead they decided to blow things up and have a sale of all their quality pieces. And now 5+ years removed from that sale and mass acquisition of quality prospects, they have very little if anything to show for it. If Theo Epstein were ever looking to save another franchise, I'd love to see it be the Miami Marlins. Those fans deserve better.
Patrick Sandoval for Martin Maldonado. It may not look like it in on paper, but this trade might just be a really fair trade. Sandavol is on his way to bring an ace and Maldonado brought the Astros a WS ring with his pitch calling
The Rockies trading Scutaro to the Giants was a great trade for the Giants don’t think they’d win in 2012 without him! And had a good solid year the following year too
This is interestig to me. I'm oldish, 40, and was a big Jays fan when this happened. I didn't, and truthfully still don't, think of the Yankees as a 'rival'. I hate the Yankees, every Jays fan hates the Yankees, but that's because they're the Yankees, not because they're Bluejays rivals. Naturally we're closer to it than we are with teams like Oakland or Houston but we have never had real competition with the Yankees. A few seasons where we were both good but we don't have any playoff history and that's where rivalries are made. This could just be a classic case of differing definitions. Good video!!
I'd say it's more because that trade was almost a direct result of the still simmering grudge Roger had against Dan Duquette and the Red Sox for not resigning him. Just pitching and beating the Sox while playing for another AL East team wasn't enough so he asked for the Yankees trade. So I'd say that trade was more a Red Sox - Yankees rivalry thing. The Jays just happened to be holding his contract, and so they ended up as the middlemen of Roger's revenge tour trade deal.
As a Phillies fan, I declared the Realmuto trade a failure during offseason after the pandemic, and looking back at what I said, I stand by that, at least from the perspective of the GM at the time Matt Klentak. Realmuto had 2 controllable years on his deal when he was traded: 2019 and 2020. Realmuto was good, but the team missed the playoffs in 2019 after winning the offseason, then during the pandemic season, while the Fandemic Crew was making banners saying 'Sign JT' and there was a expanded playoffs, the Phillies both failed to sign JT and even make the playoffs in one of the most painful seasons to memory. The Phillies let JT go to market, and he lingered there for a long ass time. Based on the state of the team, comments from ownership at the time, and the amount of time he spent on the market, I believe that if not for the depressed pandemic market (and the Mets signing James McCann early in the cycle), JT would've left. Because he hit free agency and is only here due to luck, I don't count anything after 2020 for the trade. In total, a team that under Klentak had struggled to find reliable and clutch pitching, traded their best pitching prospect who was both controllable and proved to be clutch immediately (I don't wanna talk about that) for 2 years of a player that didn't align with a realistic contention window. I love that Realmuto is here in part because of that, but for Klentak, that trade was a terrible, stupid idea if you weren't going to sign the guy.
Realmuto was extended by the Phillies after 2020 so the trade value should have been cut off there. The trade is a big win for the Marlins considering they gave up two years of Realmuto and went to the post-season while the Phillies missed both years.
Nats and Phillies have an interesting trade history. In 2015 the Nats traded for Jonathan Papelbon and the Phils received Nick Pivetta. While that trade didn’t work out for either team, in 2017, the Phillies traded Howie Kendrick to the Nats for prospect McKenzie Mills. The rest is history.
Rick Dempsey, Tippy Martinez, Rudy May, Scott McGregor and Dave Pagan for Doyle Alexander, Jimmy Freeman, Elrod Hendricks, Ken Holtzman and Grant Jackson, although this was a million years ago.
Idk how you don't even mention the Braves trading Kelly Johnson to the Mets in back to back years. Neither trade had any significant but it was so weird
I know this wasn't in the past 30 years but Cardinals and baseball legends Lou Brock was traded from the Cubs to the Cardinals after his 3rd year one of the worst in division trades of all time
Because they'd have to actually act like a Major league franchise otherwise and pay their good players... Feel bad for the fans in Oakland. They are a great and fun fanbase when competitive and dont deserve this.
0:46 yeah that tells you right there Seattle’s front office doesn’t care about winning. I almost remember justifying that trade after other fans justified it…. It just benefited the Astros.
I distinctly remember hating Cliff Lee, First, for destroying us, then immediately collapsing against the Giants, then not coming to us in the off-season.
As a Yankee fan I feel the same about Eovaldi. He was totally mediocre on the Yankees then got injured, amazing on the Red Sox and helped them in the 2021 wild card game, and I know for a fact he wouldn’t come back.
Not a Franchise altering move, but the Twins and Whitesox swapped Francisco Lirianio for Eduardo Escobar and Pedro Hernandez. Escobar was a good to great player for the Twins, while liriano never caught on with the Sox.
Clemens was my favorite player when I was a kid. I even got to meet him a few times, so I’m still pretty salty about Dan Duquette letting Clemens walk out of Boston ‘in the twilight of his career’. I will never forgive him for making Roger so angry that he walked out and signed with a division rival in order to take his anger out on the Sox organization, on the field. And then it got worse, because that wasn’t enough to satisfy Roger’s desire to show Duquette how big his mistake had been, so he proceeded ask for the trade (mentioned in this video) from the Jays to the Yankees. The final insults after all that injury were that Roger proceeded to resign with the Yankees when that Jays trade contract ended, AND THEN in ‘07 he went back to the Yankees to sign his final season retirement contract. So, please excuse me when i say: FUCK YOU DAN DUQUETTE, I WANT MY ROCKET BACK!!!! At that point in time the curse was real to me. The JRY Trust era under John Harrington was a great era for the fans in the ballpark, but it was also heartbreaking because the the front office was just competent enough to keep the team competitive while also never being good enough to get past the Yankees in the east. The players, the team, and the city deserved better. I’m thankful that Henry bought the team and has renovated the ballpark to keep them playing in Fenway, yet most of all I’m grateful to him for paying to patch up the roster so they could finally reverse the curse. GO SOX!!!!
I was a kid in the 90s and remember Duquette being vilified by the media and fans alike, but he did bring Manny here and there'd be no 2004 without him. Also, Roger didn't enjoy his time in Boston. He had an opportunity to retire here and chose the hang up his cleats with the Yanks instead.
Said "within the last 30 years" at the beginning of the video and I realized there would be no Lou Brock on the list. One of the worst deals the Cubs ever made.
This isnt baseball but I remember when I was younger and I didnt understand fantasy football. I thought they were going to trade Steve Young for Troy Aikman in real life.
I’m very bias but I believe in 3-5 years the Jose Quintana and Chris Stratton to the Cardinals from the Pirates deal from this past trade deadline will be considered a great trade for the Pirates. While Stratton has been good in his 1 and 1/2 years in STL with a 122 ERA+ and 2.70 FIP Quintana not resigning changes the deal. As the Pirates were able to get their 1B of the future in Malcom Nunez and at worse a quality reliever in Johan Oviedo but I believe his future is as a starter and a good one at that.
As a cards fan i hope oviedo pans out, his stuff was always nasty but we needed the pitching right away. I have no qualms trading away nunez a between goldy and potentially jordan walker or luken baker, we have 1st covered for a while
@@jefferycraig5353 it certainly wasn’t a bad trade for the Cardinals. They got two good pitchers for two prospects that may not ever see sustained MLB success. But as a Pirates fans I’m going to say/hope they will 😂.
In Division trades are a big no no and I would never make a trade unless my "rival" was making a really dumb offer. If the Red Soxs offer per say Manny Ramirez and Big Papi back in the day for Brett Gardner and Ivan Nova I'd take it but not if I was a Red Sox. Prospects are iffy as well in division trades seem to bolster a players vengeance against a team for some wierd reason

No Olive is the goat of goats
Way to set the bar low
Shoutout to the editor for those nice transitions on Kimbrel and Quintana
I like his voice. Some people are hard to listen to. But Jolly is easy to listen too. Great content. Super smart about baseball. Really underrated
It's still insane looking back at the homegrown offense the Marlins had from 2015-2017. I like how the Mariners-Rangers trade is actually just a win for the Phillies
In-division trades can be super risky, but they can also be great, great video as always!
Patrick Sandoval for Martin Maldonado. It may not look like it in on paper, but this trade might just be a really fair trade. Sandavol is on his way to bring an ace and Maldonado brought the Astros a WS ring with his pitch calling
Greinke kind of low shoulder-checking that batter he hit was hilarious
Love your videos on trades. Always interesting to look back on
Jolly olive day!
That final major firesale killed my love for baseball.
Picking the Marlins as my favorite team was a huge mistake.
i love this month of trade videos. such a fun idea
that quintana and kimbrel transition was clean as hell
The Rockies trading Scutaro to the Giants was a great trade for the Giants don’t think they’d win in 2012 without him! And had a good solid year the following year too
Scutaro was a massive player for us in 2012!!
Just wanted to say I love your videos and appreciate all the work you put in dude, keep up the good work!
As a Jays fan it's just nice to be included.
great video as always jolly
Jolly keep up the good work!
trade videos in baseball are the best bc there’s so much player movement and development for the players is not at all a sure thing
The best thing about Realmuto going to the Phillies is that it gave us the head shaking meme.
I watch jolly will grinding Mlbthe show it’s amazing
Another banger Jolly.

5:36 The G-Man (Greinke) squaring up against hoss Carlos Quintin and held his own haha
Should’ve mentioned the Cubs trading Lou Brock to the Cardinals for veteran pitcher Ernie Broglio
He said last 30 years
It’s interesting to see where players started off

A sequel to this video would be great with old timers like babe Ruth Lou Brock and more
Rick Dempsey, Tippy Martinez, Rudy May, Scott McGregor and Dave Pagan for Doyle Alexander, Jimmy Freeman, Elrod Hendricks, Ken Holtzman and Grant Jackson, although this was a million years ago.
He specifically said the video is only covering the past 30 years.
I think it’d be fun to look at trades where a talented player was traded, just to free up a full time spot for a top prospect
Idk how you don't even mention the Braves trading Kelly Johnson to the Mets in back to back years. Neither trade had any significant but it was so weird
Just throwing it out there that a video on Carlos Zambrano would be neat
Stephen Drew for Kelly Johnson in 2014. It was the first Yankees-Red Sox trade in 17 seasons at that point.
Trade videos were 🔥what a month
I do not remember Cliff Lee ever pitching for m’s?!
Damn. Frank Thomas and Sammy Sosa would've been pretty cool to see in the same lineup
I know this wasn't in the past 30 years but Cardinals and baseball legends Lou Brock was traded from the Cubs to the Cardinals after his 3rd year one of the worst in division trades of all time
surprised there’s no mention of Braves Marlins. Alex Jackson for Adam Duvall. Alex Anthopolus was the 2021 BASEBALL MVP 😂
You should look at past teams’ fire sales and whether it helped or hurt the team years later
Why are the Athletics so poverty? Traded away Jonah Heim? We seriously haven't kept a single good player since like 2015.
Because they'd have to actually act like a Major league franchise otherwise and pay their good players... Feel bad for the fans in Oakland. They are a great and fun fanbase when competitive and dont deserve this.
Clements causally got a triple crown in 1997.
I remember thinking Justin Smoak was gonna be so good lol
As an Oriole fan, I would trade for Andrew Miller every single time. The one trade I don’t really regret from that era
We would've never developed Rodriguez into the pitcher he is now anyways.

Holiday weekend way pre-game Jolly.
I can’t remember the last Red Sox Yankees trade
Not a Franchise altering move, but the Twins and Whitesox swapped Francisco Lirianio for Eduardo Escobar and Pedro Hernandez. Escobar was a good to great player for the Twins, while liriano never caught on with the Sox.
"The cubs and cardinals have not made a trade since 2007" lmaoooo
I remember when the Reds traded Travis Wood to the Cubs for Sean Marshall. Wish we could take that one back.

Was wondering if we were gonna see Sosa on this list
Cliff Lee is a classic case of someone getting traded because people WANT you, rather than the opposite.
Another big cubs white Sox trade was the Jon Garland deal.
11:34 Uhhh my dude that’s not the Cubs fighting the White Sox that’s the Royals.
Said "within the last 30 years" at the beginning of the video and I realized there would be no Lou Brock on the list. One of the worst deals the Cubs ever made.
If you wanna go far back babe ruth was traded from Boston to the Yankees
Can we get a video about players leaving for in division rivals in free agency
You forgot about the lou brock trade
Can you do the highest signings bonus for international prospect who turned to be a Bust
Did the Mets make a trade for Kelly Johnson AGAIN from the Braves in 2016?
Just wanted to point out, The White Sox gave away Sosa…. Imagine a White Sox team in the 90’s with Sosa and Frank Thomas… 🎉🎉
whos the pitcher at 0:57?

2010-2016 Tigers PLEASE
David Wells has a Career ERA OVER 4.00. He's one of the most over-rated players in the history of baseball
Bro batted 320 with a 97 ops+ 😭😭😭😭
Angels/Astros: Sandoval for Maldanaldo?
Red Sox-Yankees, Easler for Baylor
Once I heard the name JT Realmuto I wanted to throw my phone into a wall
Make a video of the rise and fall of king Felix
JT is clearly the best catcher in baseball. Who else is there?
“You gotta wonder why the marlins disbanded this core…” cause we’re the marlins ownership and all we wanna do is make money
Mike Piazza Marlins to Mets
Can you do trades with in same state
Let me tell you about Cleveland trading Jhonny Peralta to the Tigers.....ugggghhhh
Yeah Sammy is a cheater but who cares ! He gave me so many memories as a young kid.
🔥🔥🔥
NO KELLU JOHNSON AND JUAN URIBE TO THE METS??😮
mets trade Lenny Dykstra to the Phillies along with Roger McDowell for Juan Samuel and minor leaguer Tom Edens.
You forgot also that Sosa was caught using corked bats.
the dodgers and padres arent rivals both teams actually have to be good. not just the dodgers
Babe Ruth to the yanks
Sixto Sanchez doesnt exist
Cleveland Andrew Miller was the fucking boogeyman.
Be careful calling San Diego and LA rivals, Doyers fans' brains can't handle it.
Padres aren't a rival, more so an annoying younger brother.
the dodgers and padres arent rivals. the padres havent won anything
Dodgers and Padres isn’t a venomous rivalry lmao
I would turn off the music , then I would be able to hear what ur saying
