Rivian needs to get the R3 out as soon as they possibly can. If they can get a car out that can start at under $40k msrp I’d buy it immediately. A good electric car that competes with the rav4, crv, and cx5 in price, side, and cool factor would crush at least in the ev market.
I’ll join the chorus of voices eagerly requesting the arrival of the Rivian R3 and R3X sooner rather than later. If nothing else, Rivian should open reservations to gauge interest in these two highly anticipated vehicles. I have a hunch that they’ll be pleasantly surprised by the response.

I think the rear wiper should be tucked under the lift gate spoiler. Other than that, I already started saving for the R3, can't wait for the reservation to open!

Very clean lines with attention to detail to the exterior in a smart package. Also really appreciate the extensive attention to detail in the beautiful design and choice of materials for the interior. It will sell very well on its release. Should be a blast to drive, especially the R3X, and I’m guessing will be comfortable and quiet for those longer road trips. Another two or three years development should give Rivian time to fine tune the steering and suspension for great driving dynamics, including excellent steering feel and feedback as well as straight line stability (assistance from Volkswagen?)

Great coverage, as always! I’m a huge Rivian/RJ fan and immediately reserved an R2 when he rolled it onto stage at the reveal event. The one feature I really wish Rivian would do, that I think RJ’s dad has also wished for, is not a fixed panoramic glass roof, but one that opens, like GM and Kia/Hyundai offer. I’m tired of all the EVs with fixed glass ONLY, which all started with Tesla. For an adventure-focused brand, at least offer it as an option, to further distinguish Rivian. The best feature of the now-defunct Fisker Ocean is California Mode, where all the windows go down and the sunroof opens. At least Henrik had that right. It’s the one thing I’m not happy about with the R2/R3/R3X.

Agree! Once had a 06 Prius and a 2013 Nissan Leaf on a two year lease when Georgia had the $5000 tax credit. To keep Leaf clean the Prius mainly became my dog hauler. Sold the Prius to a former coworker when I retired and hit the road in a RV in 2017 and it is still going strong with the only major repair to have the battery back replaced. It’s his wife’s car and she still loves it. Had to get off the road to take care of a family member and now driving a 2014 Leaf SL that still has adequate range for my local daily travels. Will be ready to trade up to the R3X when it is released for sale
Awesome car, awesome brand! Just wish they would have more physical HVAC controls and buttons. Adjusting the air direction through the screen is a terrible design choice that should be phased out from all cars ASAP!
Absolutely in love with the R3! However for the designers, I don't like the split in the rear seat window. They need to redesign that to be one glass panel that can still roll down completely. Also, they should really keep the R2 features like the air compressor.

Rivian is one day going to overtake Tesla in overall EV sales. VW, one of the largest automakers worldwide is on board wit Rivian and re-defining itself to incorporate a direction in EV that it will employ Rivian technology to get there. VW may even do an M&A of Rivian at this pace...

With over 200B debt doubt it but as the Chinese are making tremendous progress in the EU VW may try such a Hail Mary pass. If Volkswagen survives wouldn’t be surprised if they offer a rebadged version of the R3/X, assembled in Europe of course
@@billthomas8994 Not sure what your point is? The top 2 automakers by sales (Toyota & VW) both have debt over 200B. Floating debt for operations is a normal course of business. Accordingly, both companies balance sheets also show assets offsetting that debt so you need to look at the entire picture. Perhaps you may not understand what to look for when making investments.
@@VWDen67 what you say could be very well true as I don’t have a deep understanding of such macroeconomics. Just going by what some industry insiders have said elsewhere. VW is negotiating hard with their unions for concessions and appear to be getting them as they claim their survival is at stake, thanks to intense Chinese competition. No matter what side you take the future is clearly EV and those not prepared will be left behind.
@@billthomas8994 The negotiations ended weeks ago with VW and the Union agreeing to a long-term labor attrition and plant closure deal. It achieves a minimum savings of €4 Billion Euros annually for the next 13 years through said attrition and assembly line closures in several plants. The savings is said to grow as much as €10 Billion Euro annual savings over the next 13 years. The most significant element I see from VW is they are using their cash war chest to establish key joint ventures in both the US and China (Rivian and XPeng, to name two.). I think we agree that the move to EV is the eventual long-term salvation of any legacy automaker.
