great review. the most in depth and sophisticated I've seen for this mattress. i bought the casper element a few weeks ago, before seeing this review, and I feel you were accurate and fair.

Thanks for your kind words Moses -- that is very gratifying to hear. I'm sorry to hear that the Wave isn't working out for you so far. How long have you had it?

Your welcome, an I have had the casper wave for about a week an a half, I know it takes time to get used to it, so I'll give it a while longer. But something does not feel right when I sleep on my back or my side

Excellent review as always. In my opinion this seems to be a bit overpriced based on how it's made. I recently picked up a 12in memory foam mattress on Amazon for only $260 that seems more significant than this one in terms of build quality, and quality of the foam inside. Even in the "bed in the box" ecosystem, it seems that certain name brands hike up the price now.

Hi Greg -- Thanks for your comment. As a general statement, I would totally agree that a brand name is a brand name, whether you're buying online or in a traditional store. And just as you would expect in any other product category, you will tend to pay a bit more for a brand name. That said, I do also think that the benefits of buying a brand name -- eg, a company that values its long-term reputation, stands behind its products, and has the resources and willingness to resolve any issues that may arise -- are certainly applicable with mattresses as well.
In terms of the mattress you described from Amazon, I would need to know more about it to have an opinion on how it measures up to the Essential. That said, based on the information you provided, one thing I would presume is that it was made in China. If so, to be fair, I feel obliged to point out that this is really at the opposite end of the "brand name" spectrum. On the one end, you have "premium" brands like Casper. Then in the middle you have US brands that are lesser-known but still play by the same rules as Casper. Then at the other extreme you have products that are made in China and sold primarily (if not entirely) thru Amazon. This last group is really the Wild West at this point in that it is very hard to know what you are actually getting, and there is no one that is really accountable in the end.
Of course, I certainly don't mean to give you any buyer's remorse about your Amazon mattress (which may be totally fine and all the mattress you need), nor do I mean to suggest that the Essential would be any better for you. I just wanted to offer some broader context on the subject of pricing and brands in the mattress world these days, given our unique vantage point on this industry.
Thanks again for your comment. I realize that this may have been a bit more perspective than you were looking for, but I hope it was useful information nonetheless.

No problem, and thanks for the in-depth details. I fully understand what you mean by things like this being "The Wild West" when on Amazon. And yes, this mattress I bought is indeed made in China. I decided to buy it for these reasons anyway, though: 1) It has a 25 year warranty. The company has been around a while and a good number of established comments verified they gave no-hassle replacements for defects, etc and were easy to deal with. I called their customer service line just to test them out and they do have a U.S. based, English speaking service center here. 2) At least in their description on Amazon, they say this: "The mattress is Certi Pur Certified which means it has been independently tested in the U.S. to make sure that there are no harmful chemicals in the mattress." (I can only assume and hope they are not providing false info). And 3) I use a full cover over my mattresses once they are aired out fully, so hopefully that helps contain any nasties still left (?).
I guess I'll find out the hard way if I grow a third eye or something. lol. But I do appreciate your response and details - I learn a lot from you.

Hi Greg -- Ha, I wouldn't worry too much about growing a third eye -- heck, maybe 3 eyes is better than 2 anyway! 😉 FWIW, I totally understand your logic and reasoning and once again didn't mean to make you question or defend your decision. Also, thank you very much for your kind words.

Hi there -- Thanks for your question. I'm afraid we haven't done an in-depth review of their Nod mattress so I can't speak to its characteristics in as much detail as I can the many mattresses that we have reviewed. You are actually the first of our readers to inquire about the Nod, however we do prioritize our reviews based on reader input, so your interest in our review of that mattress will certainly be noted. If you haven't already, you can also subscribe to our UA-cam channel or follow us on Facebook to be notified when it comes out.
Sorry I can't be of more help on this one.

What wld be some good inexpensive ($500 or below) full size mattresses for guest room?

Marianne Zemen I slept on a $100 mattress through my childhood and up into college. I thought sleeping was meant to be a painful thing and never questioned it. Not only was I on an old mattress, I was also on one that wasn’t made to support anyone over 100 pounds. These $100 department store mattresses are good for guests if they can deal with a bad night of sleep. Wouldn’t suggest it for myself though.
