    Took a battle rifle course at Gunsite, so many couldn’t get into support positions at all or quickly transition in low positions. There comes a point where you can only upgrade your kit so much and have to actually upgrade your own capabilities. Thanks for teaching these field positions and not just spraying at close range like so many influencers.

    Another good bit of Ridgeline content, thanks Jim. A good way to work on sling & unsupported is to go do an Appleseed shoot. You can shoot an AR, you can shoot a rimfire, you can shoot a rimfire AR. If you think you're a wizard you can try a bolt gun. But you'll get lots of sling use practice in kneeling/seated, prone, and even standing. It's all time-pressured which will be familiar to you from doing matches. I bet you would enjoy it.

    That sling technique i intuitively picked up in the military. But The second kneeling position has always been preferable for me. I now know it due to hyper mobility. Its a more neutral position for my joints that gives me the most stable position .

  • @Xinthisis
    @Xinthisis Рік тому +1

    One of the issues I've run into having the sling at the end of the rail is when conducting reloads. Grabbing mags from carrier or belt and trying to reload in the workspace would get caught up. Now I run it right behind where my support hand goes. I'm still able to get the necessary sling tension being adjustable while not sacrificing reload speed/ease.

    • @jimmybrodriguez
      @jimmybrodriguez  Рік тому +3

      Everything is trade offs, I would sacrifice a slightly slower reload for more accurate shots if the sling further out provides a better wobble zone. With that said if your setup works for you keep rocking it. What I do is wear the sling like a necklace and swim through when I need added stability/tension.

    • @seanoneil277
      @seanoneil277 Рік тому +1

      @@jimmybrodriguez For sure. The more you use the sling for unsupported positions, the better off you are with it as far out toward the muzzle as you can get it. That's where most of your ability to tension-up comes from, that bit between barrel nut and end of handguard.
      The reload thing can be trained around for sure. I've never tried attaching anywhere but end of handguard, I don't really have reload issues. Maybe because I don't go too quickly. Maybe also because my mag carrier is at the waist near weak side hip, not on a chest carrier or appendix/center placed.

    • @Xinthisis
      @Xinthisis Рік тому

    I noticed the first instructor had a different sling technique (sling on inside of forearm and inside of bicep) than you and the second instructor (sling on inside of bicep but outside of forearm. Is that intentional? I don't think you'd be able to get he same tension in the system with the second technique as with the first, which is exactly what the first instructor was saying... looks like an AR15 with a 13.967" barrel with a intermediate gas system but not the Noveske intermediate. JK just get a good barrel like a bartlein, Kreiger, or Douglas in a length that you want and go train you'll find what you like. I'd personally recommend a 16"+ so you don't have to deal with the BS NFA crap.

      No that’s the point I was trying to make that you don’t need to know the specs it’s an accurized AR-15.
      Buy a good barrel and fit it to a tight upper and get a strong rail. Buy a standard BCG and a good riflescope and bubble level.
      I have 2 accurized AR-15’s my favorite is a MUR upper, 18” rifle length gas bartlein spr profile barrel, 16” SOLGW m77 rail, LMT BCG, Vltor A5 buffer tube, geissele SSA-E trigger, CTR with Arisaka bag rider, 3 prong flashider. Running a vortex gen 3 1-10x in a badger mount with a badger bubble level and an acro on top.
      That gun is a 1/2” MOA all day with mk262. But you could do that with any built upper with the right parts.

      There's a bit of difference between first time trying out sling techniques, and half a day or whole day more of sling use focus. You're right that the sling works crazy good when it's done well and yes, the groups end up surprisingly small when you get it right. When you get it right. Which isn't always first try. In fact rarely, unless you used a sling previously but are sandbagging as if you didn't.
