Shout out to Jim. Dude is out here providing FREE, professional grade, rifle classes on YT
This is what the community needs. Not chest rig reviews.
Also a lot of credit goes to instructors like Bruiser and Ridgeline for allowing me to put out the content
He's the only person bring consistent spr content on UA-cam
I’ve fallen in love with it
Took a battle rifle course at Gunsite, so many couldn’t get into support positions at all or quickly transition in low positions. There comes a point where you can only upgrade your kit so much and have to actually upgrade your own capabilities. Thanks for teaching these field positions and not just spraying at close range like so many influencers.
Another good bit of Ridgeline content, thanks Jim. A good way to work on sling & unsupported is to go do an Appleseed shoot. You can shoot an AR, you can shoot a rimfire, you can shoot a rimfire AR. If you think you're a wizard you can try a bolt gun. But you'll get lots of sling use practice in kneeling/seated, prone, and even standing. It's all time-pressured which will be familiar to you from doing matches. I bet you would enjoy it.
I'll have to look that up
Rice paddy prone for the win 🇺🇸
That sling technique i intuitively picked up in the military. But The second kneeling position has always been preferable for me. I now know it due to hyper mobility. Its a more neutral position for my joints that gives me the most stable position .
Mobility helps a ton with precision shooting
I can't do the rice paddy squat or the laces-down kneeling, thanks to past knee & ankle injuries. That support bag tip from Larry was great.
Let's Go more stuff for me to try 😂😂😂
This is the way
@@jimmybrodriguez yessir doin my video tomorrow stay tuned 💪💪
3:33 the squat, also known as the haji shitter position.
Great stuff thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
I just found an outdoor range “club” non profit of sorts so I can do more things. Defo want to work on this type of stuff.
I really like the slings with a bit of bungie are best for me, gives it a good tight stretch, didn’t notice anyone using that type here though…
Slav squat 💪🔥
That’s an Asian squat, sir.
All that matters is that we ain’t skipping leg day
@@hajduk_lives Point/frame of reference wherever first encountered, but that doesn't mean nobody anywhere else wasn't doing it. SE Asia is a pretty long way from central Europe. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that archers thousands of years ago sometimes used a similar squat.
@@seanoneil277 I was just makin’ a light hearted joke.
@@hajduk_lives Figures! Sorry for being a geek.
Jim i have a question how much does your rifle in the video weight? With bi pod and everything.
I’m in for 12lbs 8oz. My rifle is similarly set up, but without a can and comes in at 11lbs 11oz unloaded.
13.8 no mag and no trigger cam. Probably add another 2-3 pounds with the camera.
@@jimmybrodriguez ... Okay I have a 16 in 308 with a scope and a light and it's around the 13lb mark best I can weigh it and everyone I hand it to always talks about how much it weights ... Thank you and awesome content
@@jimmybrodriguez Jimmy strong.
Seems like a majority of those guys are running offset dot versus 12 o’clock. Do they ever go over the why’s and why nots for either one?
What was the ir/range finder device (assuming) on the rifle?
Raid XE from Tag Firearms
@@jimmybrodriguez oh, I couldn't make it out. EXCELLENT IR laser. Hopefully I can get my hands on one someday.
Jim where is you sling? Its really hard to see.
As far forward as possible on the left side of the rail and the right side of the butt stock
One of the issues I've run into having the sling at the end of the rail is when conducting reloads. Grabbing mags from carrier or belt and trying to reload in the workspace would get caught up. Now I run it right behind where my support hand goes. I'm still able to get the necessary sling tension being adjustable while not sacrificing reload speed/ease.
Everything is trade offs, I would sacrifice a slightly slower reload for more accurate shots if the sling further out provides a better wobble zone. With that said if your setup works for you keep rocking it. What I do is wear the sling like a necklace and swim through when I need added stability/tension.
@@jimmybrodriguez For sure. The more you use the sling for unsupported positions, the better off you are with it as far out toward the muzzle as you can get it. That's where most of your ability to tension-up comes from, that bit between barrel nut and end of handguard.
The reload thing can be trained around for sure. I've never tried attaching anywhere but end of handguard, I don't really have reload issues. Maybe because I don't go too quickly. Maybe also because my mag carrier is at the waist near weak side hip, not on a chest carrier or appendix/center placed.
@@jimmybrodriguez gotcha. Yeah when I was running it end of rail I necklaced it as well and would swim hand for necessary tension.
Thanks for the free knowledge Jim🫡
Love your channel! I couldn't see a way to contact you on your website. Do you accept emails or no?
I noticed the first instructor had a different sling technique (sling on inside of forearm and inside of bicep) than you and the second instructor (sling on inside of bicep but outside of forearm. Is that intentional? I don't think you'd be able to get he same tension in the system with the second technique as with the first, which is exactly what the first instructor was saying... Interested to know your thoughts.
Jims Goon Sesh.
Jim's Goon Cave
Whats the specs on the instructor rifle?
looks like an AR15 with a 13.967" barrel with a intermediate gas system but not the Noveske intermediate. JK just get a good barrel like a bartlein, Kreiger, or Douglas in a length that you want and go train you'll find what you like. I'd personally recommend a 16"+ so you don't have to deal with the BS NFA crap.
@@dhena8112 so you don't know the specs on the instructors rifle?
No that’s the point I was trying to make that you don’t need to know the specs it’s an accurized AR-15.
Buy a good barrel and fit it to a tight upper and get a strong rail. Buy a standard BCG and a good riflescope and bubble level.
I have 2 accurized AR-15’s my favorite is a MUR upper, 18” rifle length gas bartlein spr profile barrel, 16” SOLGW m77 rail, LMT BCG, Vltor A5 buffer tube, geissele SSA-E trigger, CTR with Arisaka bag rider, 3 prong flashider. Running a vortex gen 3 1-10x in a badger mount with a badger bubble level and an acro on top.
That gun is a 1/2” MOA all day with mk262. But you could do that with any built upper with the right parts.
@@dhena8112 got it, so I'm not allowed to know the specs on his rifle but you'll give me all the specs of your rifle complete unsolicited.........
I don’t know the guys specs Griffey. Besides AR’s are like Barbie dolls for men dress them up like you want 😂
Reminds me of USMC bootcamp
Can’t relate lol
The first stance is how i group and zero my pistols
i wish i could be as skilled as you
Bro, if you’re shooting from the sitting, put your legs straight out, put your bipod legs all the way down and rest them on your toes pointed straight up! It is the most stable sitting position if you have a bipod! Give it a try you’ll thank me later
What if you have to shoot at elevated targets?
@@jimmybrodriguez then you should probably find cover lay down suppressing fire and call in an air strike or artillery…. Or get longer bipod legs.
Hahaha copy
@@jimmybrodriguez all joking aside give it a try. Once you practice it, you’ll be able to set up faster and more stable than your traditional sitting position. Just like any type of shooting it’s a technique, terrain and situation will dictate your tactical decision on how to properly engage your target! And the next time you shoot a match and it’s a sitting only stage, the chances are a lot better to clean the stage!
@@Burton3375 I bet for people flexible enough in hamstrings & lower back it's pretty rock solid. I don't think I'd make the position work without at least 12 mos of daily stretching, and even then I have my doubts. I picture a lot of wobble from my straining, twitching, almost-cramping muscles in my hams & lower back.
Anyone's knees hurt now? Lol
Yep!
Always
Knees and back.
Ass to grass! 💪
I hope those groups aren’t at 100 because they are dogshit lol. With a tight sling support and kneeling/sitting you should still be shooting at a minimum 3” groups. Don’t give me the whole it’s harder than you think, bro every rifle qual in the USMC we used this. These are extreme basics
I’m down to learn from anyone and since I never had to do any usmc quals so let me know what match you’ll be at and I’ll hop your squad you can help me fill in the gaps
Imagine citing a qual that requires you to hit a target the size of door at 200 yards from the kneeling as a standard and basis for a comment like “your group is dogshit”. What a dweeb.
There's a bit of difference between first time trying out sling techniques, and half a day or whole day more of sling use focus. You're right that the sling works crazy good when it's done well and yes, the groups end up surprisingly small when you get it right. When you get it right. Which isn't always first try. In fact rarely, unless you used a sling previously but are sandbagging as if you didn't.
That's called the Asian squat. Lol
