This will always be one of my favourite episodes and Lucy's voice is so incredible in this song. You can hear the emotions in every word. When watching the scenes you can see how both she and Renee are putting everything they have into that moment.
BTW: I just love that we're having this discussion because of "Xena" - that's the sort of thing that makes the show so great. Forgiveness was an EPIC part of the show. The heroine was a mass murderer - how did ANY of her victims forgive her? Or Gabrielle forgiving Callisto, or Virgil Livia (in a cut scene, but still happened)? It's one of many reasons this show rocked. Vengeance is easy. Forgiveness is hard. You should always fight for what is harder - it's worth it.
Well, they cannot even _meet in the other side, or in a new life now.._ since Art. was under my 'protection' (read: _hostage_ ) this whole time, while 'Xena' most likely already died while trying to enter our lands during the war, to find her.. Now, for the victory to be _Final.. all that's left is for Callisto to kill Artemis.._ *cue evil laughter* and Morgan will be forever unable to find her again..
Artemis was so desperate to find Morgana in this life.. _but only I knew her secret identity and I never told her_ she couldn't use her pact powers, because they were several borders _apart_ so when she failed to hunt me down, she lost her pact with M. ..and as M spiraled out of control when my own pact awakened, and she was defeated by Love (probably too good a fate for Xena, she doesn't deserve to be destroyed by such a noble power)
It happens all the time. You should look up reconciliation in Rwanda - that will blow your mind. Genocide survivors forgiving the people who savagely murdered their families. There's one woman who now does theatre with the man that murdered her 5 children during the genocide. If she can forgive him, then anyone can forgive.
Probably not the same for every person but there's two things I'd say factor for me: 1) You understand the other person is a human being and, like you, they make mistakes. You see how events in their lives led them to the place where they caused this harm. 2) Forgiveness is as much about freeing yourself as it is about the other person. Not forgiving leaves you in an ugly place, trapped in the horrible event. Doesn't do you any good. That said: forgiving isn't forgetting.
Time and self reflection are a big part of it too. It can take a very long time before you can be in the place to do it. If you can't even understand how people can, then you haven't found that place yet. And that's okay. We all find it in our own time. It's impossible to give you clear 'instructions' because feelings don't work that way. There's so much that goes into growing as a person and finding that place. And it takes that time every time you are wronged. The very best of luck to you.
