FOX5 Surprise Squad: Veteran Refuses Free Turkey Then Emotionally Breaks Down

- FOX5 Surprise Squad's Cassandra Jones visited a local grocery store in Boulder City, Nevada to surprise shoppers with an unexpected turkey-trot to get them ready for Thanksgiving... but it was one veteran's story that got us choked-up.
standing in line with nothing but water and says "give it to someone who needs it". thats a veteran.
Not gonna lie I always thought bottled water was for rich people growing up lol
A guy in need rather give it to someone else in need. This dude is a hero through and through.
Reminds me of my dad. He refused to get his surgery done at the VA because he said there are people that deserve it more then him. He served in Vietnam and got ripped up by shrapnel and still refused help, won’t even take a free meal from a local restaurant on Veterans Day.
@@notachance3444 Sending all my respects to your father, sir.
I don't get it, what's wrong with buying water? Poor people don't buy bottled water...
'Give it to someone who needs it'. The world needs more people like him.
No disrespect, but your sentiments are easily said through a UA-cam comment. Thank you for that. But, when you see a man/women in public that has served, please thank them. When you see a man/women that has served across from you in an interview, please hire them. When you see a prior service member struggling with drug abuse or alcoholism, find a way to find them help. It is the little things in life that mean the most for us. Most of those little things involve your personal help. The reason why that man cried is because that never happens for veterans in any capacity. Those tears are the pain of being ignored, looked over, disrespected, and ashamed. Thank a veteran in the best way possible. Help that veteran succeed in life.
This mister veteran broke my heart
@Roger Mckinney Yes Yes Yes 👍
@Roger Mckinney Roger that Roger. I’ve heard that a few times myself. My first name is Roger as well.
Stop saying ' the world needs more people like him'' and instead say '' i am going to be like him''. start with yourself and people will follow. don't just sit there and wait for everyone else
That vet at the end had me in tears when he said “ I’m just trying that’s all.” God bless you sir, and thank you for your service!
He had me laughing 😂 he porbally had a whole dinner at home all set

@Survivalist Dave I’m sorry Dave, which President are you referring to in regards to the VA? Obama ushered in the Choice Program for veterans. He began to address the concern of suicide amongst veterans.
@Survivalist Dave now this comment is reality. A very pathetic situation. Trump was the first President to really shine a light on the vets and there was a lot more to come. I have seen hundreds of YT channels spring up in the last four years who are getting your word out.

For Veterans Day I gave veterans a free buffet and drink at my restaurant. As I was standing behind the buffet replacing items I noticed a man in uniform with one arm and another veteran helping him put food on his plate. That image will stay with me until the day I die. Freedom isn’t free, thankful for all you brave men and women who serve, you’re amazing.
That man at the end is not just s hero, but an angel! Just incredible. Good lord we need more men and women like him these days.
As a Brit I admire many things about America and its people but I find it sad that so many of its veterans, like our own, struggle for so many years after they leave the service. It is about time that the Western democracies took better care of their people, and particularly those who have served. Shelter, food and healthcare are needed by everyone yet so many struggle on without those essentials, or at least with the minimum amounts of them. I applaud the Fox5 team for helping out those who require extra support, even if they are too proud to admit it. People do care but are often too busy making ends meet themselves that they have little time for others.
You are absolutely right!
Its crazy to see how selfless veterans are even outside of their service, they still want people to have more than them. Breaks my heart when i hear how the v.a treats them

I did that once and the way people reacted, you would have thought I brought back life! The women started crying and thanking me, other customers were telling me what a nice thing that was. I have to admit, it did feel good. I just keep remembering the time I got laid off, and my employment ran out. The phone company was turning off my phone. Then everything just changed. The owner of the complex I lived in stopped charging me rent, people just started bringing me food, a friend paid all of my bills. So my one act of kindness doesn't compare to the love and kindness these people showed. Everybody needs help every now and then. We live on this planet together so let's act like it!

I can’t even with this story… omg. This is so lovely. I remember when I was doing “well”, I had the notion to give the cashier at Walmart a gift card that I was going to use for her to spend on Christmas (I had a feeling she needed it somehow). People actually really can’t believe it. They say, “Why?… I don’t understand.” I’m now not in as well of a position but still give what I can. We all need love and unconditional help sometimes.

You're not alone. Thank you for your service, and even more so that you made it back and are here. There are still a lot more good people than bad in this world, and it's up to each of us to remember that kindness costs nothing. Wishing you & yours a very happy holiday season filled with laughter and love!
