- Week 6 of the kitchen renovation is pretty much the last of the major work. Yes we still need a floor, and I still need to paint and the handles aren't on but...nearly there! I also collate Evry Single book in my house that I haven't read to create my official TBR list!

Kate Morton is really good. The House at Riverton was the first one of hers I read and have since found and read more at the library and charity shops. A must read. Xx
Ali, the kitchen is coming along well. One thing to check, which may support your fridge door opening the other way, is, can you pull out the salad drawer? I have to open my fridge door very wide in order to open the salad drawer. Best to check before it gets to handle fitting. A great vlog, enjoyed it as usual. xx
Ali, I also have a lot of books to be read - nearly 40 at the last count. Some are passed on to me by my friend, some are from charity shops or bus stop libraries, some bought as new because I couldn't resist - but what amazed me in your collection was your copy of Rebecca. I have exactly that same edition, published in 1948 and inside is an inscription to say it was gifted to my mum in 1951! I just can't get over that you have this book too! xx
I agree with Dan and the Builder about the fridge door. The Reading List - just finished it, lovely ready, waited forever for it at my library and so glad I waited it out. Snow Child is a favourite of mine too.
Kind of odd that the door the fridge door is attached to also is the door for the two shelves above. So to access those two shelves you have to open the fridge too... 🤨
I love those containers and the sticky black labels! It makes things so uniform and tidy!
I love the cream appliances with the white. I also like the 1st choice of paint color ALOT until you showed the two together! Now… I don’t know?? I see your dilemma.
Do you know how helpful showing your kitchen update is for those of us thinking about it? Not that I like to see other’s lives upended. But it give a good picture of how patient one needs to be. Thanks so much.
Penny
My parents completely gutted their kitchen to studs and designed it themselves. Every possible inch of storage space was used and it was brilliant. But yes, the months of living without a kitchen were really trying.
Watching your vlogs is always so refreshing Ali as it reaffirms what deep down we all know. I too have more yarn than I could ever use in several lifetimes, and more books than I am ever likely to read. But these are the things that bring us joy. And that was so evident from the big smile on your face as you picked up each book, remembering the occasion you were gifted them, or the charity shop you were in when you stumbled across the book. Memories. It was makes us human. Keep being you Ali x
I love the hardware you picked for the kitchen , the kitchen is already looking beautifully. Your not the only one with many unread books , I have a few myself 😅
A great collection of books. I was feeling smug thinking I don't have that many TBR books then remembered my Kindle list lol! I've had Wildwood by Colin Meloy on my wanted list for sometime. I love The Decemberists songs. Always have a story. The kitchen is coming along great. I bet you will be so pleased to have it all finished and the house back to normal.
Lovely to see the progress on your kitchen - the end is in sight!! Think carefully about moving the fridge doors though - they may snag on your oven handles 🤔……. X
Such a beautiful, interesting walk. Love the music too😊
Agreed, Kate Morton's books are intriguing, mysterious and plot twisting. Distant hours, lake house and forgotten garden are all amazing. You would also like Jodi Picoult. Thanks for sharing, lots of great books. I could live in a used book store and be quite happy with a huge garden of perennials out back 🇬🇧🇨🇦🌟🌻🌳🍄📚. Take care Ali,always good to see you. Best wishes from Ontario
All of the Kate Morton books are fantastic. Highly recommend them
Notion is brilliant, I've only come across it recently after watching a video by The Giddy Stitcher on UA-cam. She was explaining how she uses to track her crafting and I have shamelessly copied her and tweaked it to capture everything I have that's not on ravelry. I'm still adding to my non yarn stash but hopefully I'll soon be able to find that zip I swear I bought. Her video is worth a look as she demonstrates relational fields, very handy.
Loved seeing your kitchen nearing completion and it’s looking lovely! Enjoyed your TBR books too and several rang a bell with me. Sure I enjoyed House at Riverton but it was before I started Goodreads so can’t remember my rating! We have some the same to read too which will be interesting! Definitely read all Daphne du Maurier classics over the years. Happy reading - when you have time xx
Taste in books is very interesting isn’t it? I didn’t think The Snow Child or The Foundling were very good at all but other commenters have really enjoyed them. I love Daphne du Maurier and Rebecca is a classic and one of my all time favourites. If you enjoy it you should try The House on the Strand too but maybe you have enough to get through for the next couple of years without buying anymore just yet !! Kitchen is coming on so well 👏🏻
Hi Ali.
Seeing you sorting out your books made me to do that too right away but then in a different way: I have an E-reader (so I can enlarge the text) with lots of books on it making it difficult to decid which book to read next. Seeing you sorting out yours popped up an idea in my head. Now I have marked the books I really want to read with a star so I can find them easier in the big digital pile. Why didn't I think of that before???
So thank you for helping me! I probably will now think of you every time I search for a book with a star 🤣.
Greetings out of the, very hot, Netherlands.
Marjan 🌷
12:22 oh yes those are my favourite door handles.
Lynn here on Hubby's phone mines playing up 😏, Hi Ali , Loved the walk 😊, definitely the right choice of handles 👍, and thank you for sharing the work tops , we're going to have them instead of wood , I was a bit unsure of the wood ones , just because of the oiling all the time , neither of us would want to do it and they would just get recked , so we're having your ones ,well our own ones obliviously 😊😂😂, hope the rest of your kitchen goes well 🤞, and thank you again for the tips , Take Care x ana Love to Dan and the girls x x , Oh and your Mum too x , let's not forget her and her poems 😂😂, Love em 😂😂❤❤
Thank you Ali. Nothing quite excites me like a pile of books. There's something comforting about it. Your kitchen is coming along beautifully, how exciting, All best wishes to you and your lovely little family. XXXX
Must be a relief that the kitchen is almost done. Sorry, but not sure I agree with you regarding the fridge door, but that's ok. Great walk with Dan (I really liked the music in this video). Fantastic book collection! Always inspiring to hear what others are reading. Thanks for sharing it all!
I have the same set up. If you change the direction of your fridge door, your oven door could scratch the fridge door when both are open. That's what happened to me and I have a large scratch on my fridge door.
I loved The Foundling by Stacy Halls and Mrs England. Very fast reads too
Love the shout outs, lots of new stitchy sites and ideas for new retails. Have you any sea, mermaid themed charts for that stunning 20 count? The weeds are growing faster than my flowers at the moment 😂 Happy stitching 😊
Love Kate Morton and have read all of her books. They are always big, quite easy to read.
I love the Flavia DeLuce books. I reread the whole series this past spring. The newest Kate Morton book, Homecoming, is great.
Oh the kitchen looks great so far. The girl on the train is such a good book. So much better than the film.
Thanks for sharing your TBR pile - I've just counted mine and I have 48! I also have a virtual list in the form of my Amazon list, which has now gotten a bit bigger, and some books waiting to be read on my kindle too. I've read The Foundling by Stacey Halls and it was brilliant, as was The Familiars. I'll be asking for her next one for my birthday and making my pile bigger still....
Loved the flick through of your TBR pile Ali. It’s so difficult to give books away. Kate Morton is one of those authors who I’ve always wanted to read but never quite managed it but I can see from the comments that she’s getting a lot of love so may have to pick one up. Delighted you’ve cracked Notion!
The kitchen is coming on on a treat. Am I alone in being excited about the big window transfer reveal? 😬😂
I loved The Miniaturist, I think you will too x
The Snow Child was beautiful and The Miniaturist very interesting . I also enjoyed the Billy Connolly book and Girl on a Train. I’m in the middle of reading Lessons in Chemistry and enjoying it and Rebecca is on my tbr list !Phew!
I loved reading The House at Riverton. I have a few of Kate Morton’s other books to read, and plan to collect her more recent books that I don’t have yet. I am sure you will enjoy it if you decide to give it a read x
Absolutely love the Alan Bradley series. There is so much in them worth looking up from art, to music, plants and places that he just casually drops into the narrative. Definitely read these and I bet you will want more. Lots of fun and a fast read.❤❤❤
I love to read, it looks like you have some good books in the TBR pile. I wrote down several to all to my TBR pile. Your kitchen is looking great. I am surprised that you would not paint your kitchen yellow as much as you love yellow.
Don't you find that there are not enough hours in the day to do everything you want to do?!? Love your stack of books. I live in a very, very small space and so book stacking is not really an option. But I have books on hold with the library lined up like planes landing at Heathrow! Your kitchen looks just lovely!
The fridge door, if it opens the other way it will be right where the hot oven door opens? Would that melt the front of the door if someone opens it while the oven is being used? Just a thought. The kitchen is really looking brilliant, I agree the cream appliances don't really look right with the fresh white. Can't wait to see the handles you chose... I voted for the curved ones 😊 I like the colour to the left of the olive...a pale green which would look really fresh and compliment the white cupboards and sandstone benches nicely.
Great vlog. I'm really pleased you like watching the BookTubers, I've had loads of great recommendations from them. I definitely recommend you read Half A World Away by Mike Gayle, it's one of my favourite books that I just reread recently. Looking forward to seeing the finished kitchen x
Really enjoyed seeing what's on your TBR :) I have eight perfect hours, the reading list, letters from lighthouse cottage, the girl on the train, the readers of broken wheel, underbelly, lessons in chemistry and half the world away (which the lovely Jo has told me im going to love!) on my TBR and haven't read them yet. I have tried fern cottons books but I just couldn't get on with them! I love the rainbow grey series! I cant remember if you use Scribd, but the series is on there :)
Love your kitchen updates! I love how you show such a lovely kitchen on a non-ridiculous budget! It looks fantastic x
OMG! Yes, David Attenborough panic is real. Same with Paul McCartney.
I love Laura Ellen Anderson ❤
Hi Ali .. another fabulous vlog. Your kitchen is looking so lovely .. I’m so loving your bookish content in recent months. I recommend The House at Riverton (was titled The Shifting Fog here in Australia) .. Kate Morton is a great writer, her novels always feature threads through different time periods, which is something I really enjoy - my favourite books of hers are The Forgotten Garden and her just published Homecoming .. if you can get your hands on that I recommend read that one first. Her books are all standalone novels - not a series as someone else suggested.
Please prioritise The Foundling - I think you’d like it .. I recently listened to the audiobook and it was great - will inspire you to visit The Foundling museum in London 😊 I plan on doing so when back in London in November.
My personal opinion is skip Girl on the Train .. overrated!
Anyway - as always I look forward to your next vlog and also look forward to seeing which TBR you choose to read first. 😊
Enjoy that lovely new kitchen. The Kate Morton is part of a series I think. From my American view it's a very Brit trad that I love. Seems you might enjoy her books when you're vacationing in the English country side sometimes. Do read The Reading List and Lessons in Chemistry. One very England and one very American!
Hi Ali, your kitchen is looking lovely, you'll be glad when your back to normal, whatever that is 😂. Ive had a rough night with this heat and pain in my foot. I started a lovely easy shawl yesterday the pattern was recommended on another youtube I watch. It's called the Simply Curious shawl on Ravelry it's just knits and purls so nice and easy. I should be finishing the pile of knitting and cross stitch rather than casting on another project 😂. I was feeling sorry for myself with this nasty fall I've had so I thought why not teat my to the pattern. Anyway I'll look forward to another video and take care. Love Sarah ❤
*treat
I dread to think how big my TBR pile is, but it would be good to do when I'm mobile again 🙈
The snow child is one of my FAVOURITE books, it’s absolutely beautiful and so emotional ❤️❄️
If you like Downtown Abbey you'll love The House at Riverton! I read it a couple of months ago and loved it!
It is so lovely that your whole family likes to read Ali, it's not that common these days. You are not spoiled for choice of what to read, happy reading. 🥰
Flavia books are fun. I didn't finish Girl on a train. I wouldn't change the door of the fridge but why is it one big door to the top? It looks as if the fridge door only would not hit the wall. My idea would be to cut the door in two parts. But who am I, I still have my own renovations to worry about 🙂Decisions about almost everything 🤯
I listened to all of the Flavia audiobooks and loved them so much that I bought them all in paperback to read in the future (and I tend not to reread very many books, so that's saying something). I thought the audiobooks were fantastic! If you don't already know about it, you should look up how the idea for the first book was born and how everything seemed to fall magically into place for this series.
Love the handles you picked
I like a light colored kitchen. Remember that light colors means brighter, and looks larger. Darker colors means more artificial lighting, and the area appears smaller. 😀
I was told that you shouldn't have a fridge next to a hot oven for obvious reasons. Hope yours is well insulated.
Talking have a Anton du Beke, did you watch his show with Giovanni their trip to Sicily, their friendship is a beautiful thing to watch.
Reading has always been my favorite activity, even more than knitting (gasp!). My TBR encompasses all the books I want to read, whether I not I currently own a physical or digital copy. I read 217 books last year, which includes physical books, ebooks and audiobooks. I focus on the classics, modern classics and book prize shortlisted books. I have a Pulitzer Prize project, with about 30 more winners to read. When I was five, I actually thought it was possible to read every book. Now I know better, but I still read as though it were possible. I follow a few booktubers-had to cut back because it was eating into my actual reading time. Glad to see a fellow knitter with a healthy TBR! Great vlog!
I love Kate Morton! Also enjoy Anita Shreve…
I love your choice of door handles and knobs.
I love the contrast of the cream against the white tile.
This was exactly what my brain needed today, so thank you 💛 I really like the handles you settled on and I’m sure that whatever colour you choose for the walls, it’ll look beautiful. Yay for book content! For the ones you’re not sure of, you could read the first chapter and see what you think? 💛
Yes get the door changed Ali. Get the door changed - I am with you on this. So exciting that the kitchen is nearly finished. I’m like you and have to wait and see if the items have the final place in the cupboards etc. We are lucky this house we moved to before Christmas has a pantry…… it’s the best room in the house and I even have labels on the shelves - oh my goodness it’s label heaven in there 😂. Great going through your books with you. Loved that. Thanks for spending time updating us. Just loving the kitchen. ❤
Love Tranquil Dawn. I have it in my sewing room and would have it in any room in our house x
Have to say I agree with Dan and the builder about the fridge and freezer doors….opening towards the kitchen makes more sense for ergonomics….but you get the final decision 😉 The wall thing would bug me slightly too.
Kate Morton is a great author!
Love your vlogs
Kitchen is coming out great and your handles are perfect. I have read all of the Flavia DeLuce series and I enjoyed them.
Alan Bradley series is great!
Hello ! Your kitchen is turning out so beautiful ! I have to say I enjoy the contrast between the white and cream color appliances . I love the handles that you have chosen ! Beautiful kitchen for your family to enjoy! I love to see book reviews ! I have read Lisa Jewel and I really enjoy her books and so many others ! I love to hold on to my favorite books for my own mini library . Thank you always for sharing your family and home ! Lots of love to you all! ❤🏠❤️🏠
I have read Body Surfing, House at Riverton and Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. I liked them all enough to read more by all of those authors. Good luck getting everything back in the kitchen! It looks great.
Really, really loved the Kate Morton - this one is my favourite, I think!
Also love the new kitchen- these handles are going to look just fab. 😍
Hi Ali. Have you tried making a toasted sandwich in the air fryer? They are amazing and you won't use the toasty maker again. I speak from experience 😅 your kitchen looks fantastic so far. Thank you for another brilliant vlog. 🤩
Thank you for the book ideas. It's good to get out of a rut of reading the same genre. Your kitchen is beginning to look so good!
Agree regards new fridge door 🙂Love your book selections too. I have my Dad’s very old chambers dictionary that he used everyday ( he was a crossword fiend), cannot part with it. The kitchen looks great 😊
I am a FAN of the "cream colored appliances against the white"!
Kate Morton is always such a good read. Loved The House at Riverton. I read all of Daphne du Maurier when I was a teenager. Rebecca is a classic. The girl on the train is a must read since you love Lisa Jewell. Loved Home Stretch. Graham Norton is so good at creating characters that you care about. I adored all of Alan Bradley's Flavia books. Such fun! I think you will especially like them because your dad was a scientist. Thank you for the book tube!
Like Anita Shreive too. I thought The Girl on the Train was depressing and didn’t finish it. ( should I turn into a book critic? 😳🤔🤭😁 Richard Osmond is good too.
I've just started reading "The Thursday Club" and I really enjoying it. Also looking forward to reading " A Spoonful Of Murder" by J.M.HALL. Similar vein, 3 retired school teachers solve a murder...I can see a theme staring here. Not long until you'll have you kitchen all sorted. My friend's bought a bungalow last year, moved in in Oct, moved out in Jan as it needed complete renovation doing...with hidden things coming to light along the way. Only original parts of the dwelling ar the bricks and rood tiles...for now. They were hoping to move back in last week...mmmmmmmm. 😂😊😂 Have a lovely week, looking forward to next weeks video. P.S. watched the podcast for "Little Drops" last night...thinking of having a go at the "Amma" crocheted top...😊
Your kitchen is looking good already! You had a beautiful walk thanks for taking us along and thank you for showing us your lovely kitchen! Hugs Liz x
The Farrow and Ball paint in the Mizzle pairs really well with white trim. We love it
The kitchen is coming on a treat. I live Kate Morton's books, but The House at Riverton was not my favourite. I absolutely love the Flavia De Luce books. I have them all and was so sad to come to the end of the series. Like you I have a huge TBR stash. A while back I made myself a book jar. Wrote down all the titles on slips of paper and picked them at random to read so I mixed up the genres and didn't just pick the newest or easiest reads. It worked well. Haven't kept up with it for a while, so might need to revisit the idea I think
You have made many recommendations of books to read that I would not have chosen but thoroughly enjoyed on Audible
I find it hard to read an actual book these days but oh my I LOVE AUDIBLE I can listen cooking gardening dog walking knitting & insomnia times so THANK YOU ❤
Your kitchen is really coming on! It’s looking great! My daughter’s bedroom is mizzle and we love it, but the dulux one looks fab too. All depends on the light in your room how the colours actually look!
Your new kitchen is looking lovely 😊 I'm a fan of Mizzle, its such a beautiful colour. I know F & B paint is very spenny compared to the other brands but it goes on like butter and is worth every penny!
We used dulux in our kitchen and it chips and marks at every turn. We would never use it again.
Loving ur kitchen,,,,!
Will be great to have it finally done,,,
Love books, but can't read much these days,,,for some e reason,,,
IT will come back,,,
Elaine🏠🐾
Haven't read alot of your books,,,,
Miranda Mills has a lovely youtube channel
The Reading List and Lessons in Chemistry are great audiobooks! Both great books!
It really is hard to choose a paint color. I'm having the exterior of my house painted and I selected a trim and deck color that was just a bit too dark. It cost $1000 in extra charge to change the color one shade lighter. My house is also full of dust because three decks are being constructed and one wall is being taken down. After that, the master bath will be remodeled. I can't wait until it is finished.
Rebecca is excellent, one of my most favourite novels ever.
Hi Ali, the kitchen is looking great and I like your choice of handles. I also have a collection of books to be read but I have lost my reading mojo which I hope will return soon. I watch Miranda Mills on UA-cam who is an avid reader and who has a monthly Comfort Book Club. She has a vast collection of beautiful books which she reviews every 2 weeks or so along with her mother, Donna. I have purchased some books on her recommendation which I hope to read at some point. Looking forward to your next video. Regards, Alex
You can’t go wrong with the green paint in the kitchen!
The kitchen is looking great ❤ I’ve just started the decluttering in an effort to make space to store everything when our kitchen re-fit starts at the end of July - I can’t get my head around what order to do everything 😅 I loved The House at Riverton and have read several other Kate Morton books. I’ll be heading over to watch your latest video on Little Drops of Wonderful later 😊 xx
A year after my kitchen remodel was mainly done (backsplash has been put on hold), I still find that I'll rearrange some cabinets. Because you really do need to live with it for a while and then change your mind. Maybe live with the frig handle for a bit and see if it makes a difference to be able to pull things out and put them directly on the counter to your left.
Lots of great books. That Anton Du beke book, I think, is in the series of books that you have already read one of, there are a couple of books before that one. Or, I might be wrong and it might be his new series. You might water to check before you start it x
I'm still thinking about that book retreat story you shared on IG. As a first step I'd be up for joining in with reading a book in a day alongside you! Maybe we could chat about them afterwards. Mind you, I'd probably need to forego most of my 18th and 19th century favourites to stand much of a chance!
Great choice of handles Ali for your kitchen 😊
42. The meaning of life! Tho I didn't hear you mention The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams 😉
Letters from the lighthouse by Ali McNamara is such a good book I have read a lot of her books and they are such good reads really positive books …. Plus Kate Morton books are all good especially the one you have …. ❤ I have The family upstairs by Lisa jewel ti read as you said it was good so have to get to that 😊… love all the books 💞📖💞
I can’t remove my shelves for cleaning or the salad drawer unless my door is open more than 90°
Same here
Read Girl on the train and Rebecca
Are all refrigerators in the UK that small, I live in the US and I must say my refrigerator is probably 3 times as big as that one. And it’s not the biggest refrigerator you can buy. I think our stoves are also quite a bit bigger then your. I love seeing the differences in our countries.
I’m in the UK & that is pretty standard for a fridge freezer .. I think mine might be a little smaller! 😂
@@jowatson2607 you must have to shop quite often? We only shop about every 10 days to 2 weeks. And I could never fit a 20 pound turkey in your little oven. But I could really use a smaller oven except for thanksgiving day
@@terrizimmer4808 we do a ‘big shop’ every week and then a top up shop once or twice a week. It’s not my favourite thing trying to fit all the shopping in the fridge/freezer I must admit.
My mum always bought a turkey that had been boned & rolled by the butcher so it would fit in the oven 😂👍🏻
You can buy big fridge freezers here in the UK but they are marketed as “American fridge-freezers” or “American Style”, traditionally ours are smaller. We own an American style on but it’s still half the size of my friend’s in Michigan. 😂
Hi! You have inspired me to start reading again. Thank u. 💜🌸🌼🌻
