Assault Mechs the answer to that age old question of screw you, screw that town and screw that hemisphere. Also can I make it bigger and with more dakka??
Starting off with the Zeus and putting it in B? Oh, we are cooking, lads. And the best thing about the Stalker is when you're using the advanced rules. Its Combat Computer quirk allows it to sink more heat than its loadout would initially suggest. And the Ubiquitous quirk means in a campaign setting, it's super easy to keep in tip top shape. I literally _always_ confuse the Gargoyle and Executioner.
Strongly agree about the Banshee. The 3S is one of the greatest mechs of all time. But the 3E and 3M are everything that Tex said the Charger is but better. It is THE in your face mech. Run in while shooting, grab the enemy, and smash. It's the Hulk.

I feel like the Mauler would feel more functional as an anti-air or anti-vee mech if they swapped the locations of the autocannons and the ER large lasers. But then again, losing those big laser arms would make it look a lot worse.
16:20 it is so unbelievably davion for them to make a mech that looks like they replaced the frontal lobe with an autocannon. I'm only upset that it has a torso cockpit
The Thug has for a long time now been my favourite, for exactly the points listed. It's never dead weight. If you need an assault mech, you can always grab a Thug and be reasonably sure that it'll do the job. That, and I really like its more brutish design.
I like a twin Large Laser variant of the Thug with some tweaks to armor and heat sinking - brawls at a slightly shorter range but can fire everything point blank consistently with no minimum range.
1. Epimetheus redesign needs to move the AC 10 down below the belt, because funny. 2. Thug should get a boost for dumb but funny name. 3. Agree on Annihilator, looks like derpy mecha Godzilla. 4. Long Bow I love because missile boats are just funny. I just love deleting things from range with indirect fire. 5. I won't make fun of you for mixing up the gunslinger programs. Also it looks like a Cylon. 6. Agree with you on anything below AC 10 being useless. Though most of my experience is in the video games, not so much the table top. 7. Great video, more of these please!
UAC/5 is great in Mechwarrior 5, especially if you have the mod by The6thMessenger that adds in a solid-shot version. The Clan version is just disgustingly good. Add it to any loadout and you can be sure it'll see effective use.
The Berserker is always going to be my favorite but hot damn the Tomahawk is an absolute monster of a clan mech, like this is actually just scary but he also ate all the damn points in the world
I had to jump on this video as soon as I saw the Epemetheus on the thumbnail. As a fan of the mechs in the Unbound adventure, I had to see what you thought of it. I want a really good stl of it to print. I do agree that it isn't perfect... hell, the original chart didn't even include the ammo for the Autocannon, and had unspent tonnage. This proves it wasn't finished yet. Much potential. Also it looks kind of like a giant Wyvern. When it comes to the Annihilator, never forget The Mech! The Myth! The Legend! Gausszilla! The Charger generally sucks... until you put a pilot with the right special pilot skills in it. Landing 4 9-point punches in a single turn to the punch location tables is funny as heck!
I have to disagree about the Great Turtle. It does one thing very well. Try and stop it from getting into a city or fortified area. It’s terrifying to try and stop. And all the time and fire going into it means its lance mates are not taking the fire. And if you don’t kill it, it just slowly chips away at you until you die.
Ok, i agree the Atlas is over rated, this coming from a major fan of the Atlas, but B tier!? Really!? Its A tier at least, it was designed by Kerensky, its been around through all the wars, and still very much feared on the battlefield, it has a crazy ammount of weapons and armor, all with enough heatsinks to keep it cool most of the time, to put it simply, theres a good reason the Atlas is the face of battletech
The issue with the introtech variant is that it has too many short range weapons. It's intimidating and it's also good at its job, no two ways about it. But its strengths can be mitigated fairly easily through use of terrain or faster units, and its less-specialized and possibly less expensive peers can end up contributing more to a combat encounter while the Atlas lumbers into optimal range; i.e. the Thug, Awesome, Stalker, or Zeus. There are later variants that remedy this, but overall its reputation is greater than its actual performance in practice.
@cobalt968 fair points, im not saying its the best mech, but i am saying that it should be A tier because of what it can do, for instance, if i was going to destroy a base, my first pick is the Atlas, for the armaments, cost, and armor, if i was to be in solaris 7, Atlas, all the way (with modification), or if its lance vs lance, my mech of choice for me is the Atlas, sure its slow, but there are several other mechs who are as slow, or slower, but i think we can all agree, if you mod the hell out of it, it can become terrifying to deal with, so i agree with you on some points, but I still belive it should be A tier, but thats just my opinon
@@mageleader3699 your not wrong to a point, however to counter that , the Orion cant take the same punishment as the Atlas, and the orion has a good loadout, but the Atlas does bring more firepower to the table, my custom Atlas has eaten Orions for breakfast on MW5 (modded of course), and on the battletech side, my father in law is terrified by what i created on the mech sheet, and hes been playing battletech since it first came out, yeah...a Atlas going 70kph is kinda scary
I was following along as I watched and looking these mechs up as we went to see if I found any interesting variants. Interestingly enough I found the Executioner actually has another variant which is considered a different chassis entirely, Executioner-B the clan Burrock variant. It has the Poor Performance Quirk and is prone to overheating in all variants but it honestly feels just like a Stalker but with Clan tech, most variants having a decent amount of armor and the ability to deal damage at all ranges. I suggest you look it up
King Crab for S tier. I have deleted many Atlas and center punched many lights. Also, it was my first miniature that got me into Battletech. I'm just biased towards it. the joy of rolling 7 aginst lights with my AC 20s made me happy. My issues with the Fafnir is, if you can get within minimum range of the HGR it tends to miss. From my experience.
I still do not understand why S-tier exists. In my mind, it'll mean 'shit-tier.' We already have A, so anything above that that seems counter-productive.
@Stormeris Again, we already have 'A.' 100% of a score is 100%. If the score can go above it, then the brackets need to tighten up. 'S-tier' is just... Irksome in the extreme.
1:18:20 The biggest issue IIRC is none of the configs actually use the heatsinking capcity well at all, loading down on ballistics with tons and tons of free sinking.
Great turtle: drop lasers and 4 heat sinks, add Gauss and 2 tons ammo. If you need more spice, drop 2 tons of armor, add 2 ERML, if you were lucky at Huntress, upgrade from IS lasers to Clan lasers/gauss.
Annihilator is famous for its Gauss Rifle builds, the Clantech C2 variant with 4x Gauss (80 ammo) and 1x ER PPC is absolutely terrifying, and 1G with 3x Gauss (48 ammo), 1x ER PPC, and max armor is pretty scary as well. It's designed to defend and assault fortifications specifically, where you can't get close enough to use an AC/20 without being shot at and you need something to lay down concentrated suppressive fire at walls and turrets from a single angle without exposing the 'Mech too much. Or, it can overwatch a sector of a fortress perimeter from its walls and absolutely pummel in a single volley anything that dares to momentarily peek out. It's basically a Siege Tower. And it's brutally effective at that. Still, this job _could_ be handled competently by things like Marauder and Warhammer, which are more useful outside of this specific context, or by an Awesome, which is more practical overall. They just don't have the instant, one-button-push alpha strike of this monster. One custom Annihilator build I like has standard engine and structure, max standard armor, CASE, 2x ML in the center torso, 2x Ultra AC/10 in the arms and 2x RAC/2 in the side torsos, with ample ammo and DHS to run everything on full auto all the time. It goes dakka within 0/6/12/18 and doesn't stop, for just 1863 BV2.
@@p_serdiuk Yeah. Hardened armor on everything but the legs, which have modular armor installed instead, to avoid the movement and piloting penalty (patchwork rules). This also ensures that the mech won't be rendered totally ineffective by a lucky headshot.
I used a Tai-Sho in a fight, and the only thing I can say is, don't use it in a fight. The armor is good, but holy shit this thing heats up like crazy if you shoot both PPCs
Annihilator is just LRM food. It's just so slow and easy to blast. Mackie is great. Not as good as Atlas II, but the miltia variants will eat Kerensky's stock Atlas for breakfast. Makes you wonder if he commissioned the Atlas II because his Atlas group was getting pelted to death by PPCs in the Martial Olympiad vs Hegemony Militia. It is an easy target, but it has the trifecta of rugged, easy to maintain, and protected actuators making it one of the easiest assaults to keep running ever.
The brand new Charger C may very well be the apex predator on the field. Able to sprint at 140km/h with a battery of improved heavy medium lasers and an Angel ECM? It hides from things that want to see it, it catches most standard mechs even down to some mundane lights... its just... wow.
King Crab has some variants that can push it over to B or maybe even A tier. An all energy build is usually best but I’ve gotten great results with rac5s and a targeting computer on the table top. But the stock version? It’s ok. If you like running out of ammo.
The Thug I remember stripping the SRMs/ammunition in favor of Jump Jets and a couple of Medium Lasers. My Thug would later on receive twin ER PPCs with 18 DHS, JJs, Medium Lasers, and a hatchet.
If you play with fog of war rules, that thing is proper spooky. It can break contact and flank with ease due to its speed belying its size. And if you forget about it, ignore it, or lose sight of it, you can be sure it will reappear later to savage some unfortunate unit in melee.
Putting the Annihilator in E, which carried me from Tier 4 to Tier 1 in MWO alone by itself is already getting me salty ^^ ...easiest personal S tier for me
Please re-design the mech Oswald! Or at least make an .stl of it. I actually paid Brian Banzai to 3d model the Wildfire from the same RPG module book Unbound, and it's ok, but loses a lot of detail from printing. He also made the Prometheus Clan Frankenmech too, and the model looks great! But the legs are broken. They won't print properly and as far as I know, he hasn't fixed it.
The Tai-sho is a mech that's needed to make all the c3 systems work. You can't think of a battlefield as 1v1 when dealing with C3 systems. Don't be daft.
It's also my favorite assault mech Genuinely good mech, the quirks you mentioned only apply to the Primitive variant and the introtech one has none of those issues
Doesn't seem very fair to knock it to F tier for the performance issues of the Primitive variant, when most Primitive variants have had similar issues including the Longbow iirc
Putting the great turtle in F tier too. This is just anti-quad propaganda like big commie 40k videos! Horrible. Horseshoe theory confirmed true once again!
Barely 4 minutes in and talking about the Atlas. I for one, at one one, was one of those people that was not familiar with Battletech/Mech Warrior. When I thought of the franchise. I thought of the Mad Cat. Only to learn of the clans and really how terrible they are. Even worse than the Inner Sphere, somehow. I dislike the Mad Cat for being a Clanner Mech. Now I when I think of Battletech/Mech Warrior. I think Urbanmech. It may not be an Assault Mech. But it assaulted my heart and I love the little killer trash can of death.
I fucking hate playing against the Fafnir in MechWarrior Online, I have yet to kill one despite being an assault mech player. I have ran the Kaiju, the Marauder 2C, the Blood Asp, the Awesome, the Stone Rhino, all with ERPPCs, and NEVER FUCKING KILLED ONE
I disagree, the atlas, is solid. Look I grew up figured the skull mech would be mediocre after coming back from my childhood… Then I realized its philosophy is max armor and heavy armaments. Sure at standard it s abrawler and often later it gets confused from the ideology, but Ive learned it is respectable
I'd switch the Thug and HMC, Hatomoto is cool but I like the Thugs aesthetic better and I don't have to kiss Kurita's ass to get one. The only interaction I want with Kurita is done with my Gauss Rifle.
Wait how can you put the HMC at S-tier and say "you can make a good charger but why would you?" When the HMC is literally a charger armed like a Thug with armor designed by a weeb.
@asimplenobody7797 But we already have A! You can't go further north than the North Pole, so why is there an 'S-tier' when A is already a 90-100% scoring? If the highest score increases, then the brackets schould be tightenee.
"Versatility" funnily enough is why I dislike many of the mechs you guys praise higher than normal. I find the SL style "here is short range, long range, and medium range!" design philosophy utterly worthless. It inevitably makes a mech that isn't great at any of those, after all. I'd almost always just rather have a mech great at one task, and plan accordingly. Though maybe that's because I don't do single lance stuff.
Highly disagree with the Thug being above the atlas. The thugs combo of basic PPCs + SRMs make it very difficult to get all its weapon systems on the same target wich makes it highly situational. Not to mention that outside of the royal variant you only get 2 ppcs and 2 srm4s... thats really not much for its weight. Not to mention it was nearly extinct in 3025 wich you guys docked points from the shogun for. Basically no one had Thugs outside of comstar. So if one nearly extinct mech gets thrown into D tier i cant see how another allmost extinct mech lands in A tier. Especially considering its weaponsloadout is really nothing to write home about just like with the shogun. If you want a PPC boat go Awesome, if you want a SRM platform on an assault mech... what the heck is wrong with you? XD
I have nothing intelligent to say so... Stalker is Pants mech. Also your wrong and dumb, the charger deserved to be higher on fun factor alone. (Can't wait till next video, love ya)
The Epidimious was the Final boss of a Mechwarrior RPG Module. The tech was stolen by a ROM agent, and it eventually became WoB's Domini tech.
I, for one, am glad you kept the ending ramble in. Too many people try taking this stuff way too seriously. Sometimes, you just need to cut loose and laugh a little.

The Annihilator is called a specialized mechs. Mostly because it is often considered in mechanized infantry line up. The combination of Urbanmechs, Behemoth tanks, and Burke’s. The brand new Charger C may very well be the apex predator on the field. Able to sprint at 140km/h with a battery of improved heavy medium lasers and an Angel ECM? It hides from things that want to see it, it catches most standard mechs even down to some mundane lights... its just... wow.
Happy Bagpipes from Above
Huh! I'd never thought of it that way, but yeah, the Kodiak is just an Atlas IIC.
Learn something new every day.
Just faster and with claws.
The Banshee is a city Anti Infantry , and Anti Mechanized Infantry unit . The Banshee can even make a good city Command Mech .
Everyone makes fun of the Banshee but it's often the last one standing.
King Crab has some variants that can push it over to B or maybe even A tier. An all energy build is usually best but I’ve gotten great results with rac5s and a targeting computer on the table top. But the stock version? It’s ok. If you like running out of ammo.
Easy litmus test for Annihilator usage. Can you do the same thing with 4 Urbanmechs
The Thug I remember stripping the SRMs/ammunition in favor of Jump Jets and a couple of Medium Lasers.
My Thug would later on receive twin ER PPCs with 18 DHS, JJs, Medium Lasers, and a hatchet.
Sounds brutal. Might be worth to lower the amount of DHS to add a supercharger and TSM.
Or partial wing, Improved JJ, and TSM.
I aould love a follow up where gou cover other assault mechs. The fact that the Awesome and the Victor is not on this list is a crime
I'll save you some time. Awesome is S tier and the Victor is D tier.
What is the weirdest and wtf battletech mechs
Yeah not sure when it will happen but someone might pay me to rebuild the Epididimus
Banshee not being in f tier is wild.
If you play with fog of war rules, that thing is proper spooky. It can break contact and flank with ease due to its speed belying its size. And if you forget about it, ignore it, or lose sight of it, you can be sure it will reappear later to savage some unfortunate unit in melee.
Putting the Annihilator in E, which carried me from Tier 4 to Tier 1 in MWO alone by itself is already getting me salty ^^
...easiest personal S tier for me
MW4 mercs is my all time favorite!
I am early into this episode and I will be disappointed if the Blood Asp doesn't get S tier
Have you heard of the huntress mech it is not cannon but I think it is cool as hell
I use the annihilator as a sniper… I load it down with ac-2s and headshot cockpits all day.
Time stamps please?
Jumpjets guass executioner er large lazers. It will out rang medium and heavy’s and pick them off.
1:16:20 Tiki Megatron.
6:17 bring the Fire Fist SPA. Don't shoot the LRMs in the shooting phase. Come melee get two punches AND point blank LRM15 shots in on em!
Xanthos is at least B tier for me. It's essentially a quadruped Atlas with a PPC instead of the LRM20.
It's also my favorite assault mech
Genuinely good mech, the quirks you mentioned only apply to the Primitive variant and the introtech one has none of those issues
Doesn't seem very fair to knock it to F tier for the performance issues of the Primitive variant, when most Primitive variants have had similar issues including the Longbow iirc
I mean if we're talking about quirks, Mackie has the oversized quirk which is easily one of the worst quirks to have
Putting the great turtle in F tier too.
Let me guess every mech there is a Clanners mechs no respect for the Inner Sphere!
Look I grew up figured the skull mech would be mediocre after coming back from my childhood…
Then I realized its philosophy is max armor and heavy armaments. Sure at standard it s abrawler and often later it gets confused from the ideology, but Ive learned it is respectable
I still question how the shogun reloads its missile tubes… with how aqward the placement is
Stalker is so s tier! The Dreaded Dildo of Devastation!!!
So. Would a new war crime be a sexual assault mech SAM
I still do not understand why shit-tier is a thing. I mean, why is it above A? We we already had Alpha, so... why? So confused.
...This is a joke, Right?
@asimplenobody7797 negative. I am legit confused.
@@Deridus S-Tier is the highest tier something can be, it has nothing to do with shit
@asimplenobody7797 But we already have A! You can't go further north than the North Pole, so why is there an 'S-tier' when A is already a 90-100% scoring? If the highest score increases, then the brackets schould be tightenee.
@@Deridus Ok then, troll or kid you are.
Hot-take, the Thug is Just a shit Awesome xD
XD
How dare you lump the atlas in with that piece of shit zeus its an s tier assault like the stalker
I have nothing intelligent to say so... Stalker is Pants mech. Also your wrong and dumb, the charger deserved to be higher on fun factor alone.
(Can't wait till next video, love ya)
