    Check the throttle body for excessive space between the valve and the bore. If excessive, it can cause high idle.

    Nice explanation. Any short circuit between +5 and ground is possible and gives damage to ECU, instead you can just test the sensor measuring the resistance between pins.

    Hi and thanks for your fine videos. I checked the terminals of the throttle position sensor on my 1988 Volvo 745, only to find that 5.0 volts was being provided on pins 1 and 3, with no voltage from pin 2. As I understand, the tps on the volvo 240 that you made a video of, only provided one pin with 5.0 volts. What may I conclude?

    Hey, this was great! Replaced my TPS because it was consistantly reading 3.39v on the center wire with little to no variation. After replacing the TPS, same thing! I then diconnected the TPS and found the 3.39 volts is coming from the wire, not the TPS. I got on a corvette forum, tried an Olds forum, got a service manual (89 caprice 305) followed the wiring looked for shorts, replaced the ICM. The code reader is still reading 21, TPS voltage to high and 45, rich exhaust (make sense).
    Any Ideas? Thanx Much!

    Throttle plate was sticking, so I turn little bit throttle stop screw. Now no more sticking, idle rpm is now 1000, but problem is continuouse rumbling sound inside my car.
    Following checks were made.
    No air leage in intake air. Air Filter is clean. TPS voltage is as per manufacturer recommended. Spark plugs are good no mechanical fault. How can we reduce idle rpm without throttle stop screw adjusting?

    Great videos...subscribed and been watching many...appreciate the content and straight-to-the-point-methods! Quick question. I have a '91 Camaro with an LS1 engine. It has a new throttle body with new IAC & TPS. PCM threw a P0122 code which is low TPS voltage which should be around 0.5v-1v at idle up to 5v at WOT. Using your video, it read 0.13v at idle (which explains the code) and only 3.94v at WOT. Since the TB was new, the manufacturer sent me a new TPS under warranty. When tested, it was perfect...just under 1v at idle and 4.95v at WOT. A day later, the new TPS was back to the same range (0.13v at idle & 3.94v at WOT) which threw the same code P0122. Any ideas as to what could cause this voltage drop? FYI, this is a newly swapped engine. I am at a point of "crank, no start" and am troubleshooting that as well. I do have voltage at injectors and coils, spark and 58psi of fuel at the rail. Thank you!

    • @myRatchets
      @myRatchets  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, if the reference voltage from the pcm to the tps is as it should be (measure with connector unplugged) and there are no other components that use that ref. voltage in the same circuit as the tps than the problem is more than likely the tps again. as far as your crank no start problem I would check for injector pulse next than compression. gl

    • @davidlubin7389
      @davidlubin7389 2 роки тому

      @@myRatchets Thank you...going to check pulse & compression. Think MAP and/or MAF sensor could be a contributor? If so, can they be tested without running engine?

I own a 93 Grand Cherokee 4.0 L and with the connector disconnected I am getting roughly 4.3 volts coming from th ECM through the return signal wire and to the TPS connector. My constant hot from the ECM is 5 volts and my ground is good it is my understanding that there shouldn't be any voltage aside from just below 1 volt on the signal wire. Can anyone please help. I have a 97 Camaro 3.8 and it loses voltage to the tps. I have a brand new Wells tps and a bunch of used ones and they all show the correct voltage. Sometimes when the motor is hot and sometimes even when it's cold it will rev itself but seems worse when hot. 3000rpm sometimes and I have to put the clutch in. When the car revs itself none of the wires at the tps show voltage at all. And usually a off and on will reset and bring the voltage back. To me it almost seems like the pcm could be a cause but I don't know enough. Anyone have any idea?. It actually hasn't done it all this week but i'm sure it'll be back.

      Sounds like it could possibly be your idle air control valve. It is an electronic part, but it is something that can be cleaned usually.
      While you're in there, you might as well clean it all.
      Do the Throttle body (Not the sensor, but the actual Mechanical Part), EGR valve, IAC valve, and MAF sensor.
      If you have never done any of those task before, it should make a hell of a noticeable difference that you will feel in your vehicle's performance.
      I'm not a Mechanic, but I study as much as I can, and it certainly helps having certified mechanic friends that I have watched work on my vehicles over the years....
      You kinda can't help but learn shit. Lol. Hope that helps.
      You shouldn't have any problem finding videos on how to do each one of those things.
      Personally I always watch multiple sources for similarities, and differences in what they have to say.
      Sometimes you just run across someone that really stands out with their knowledge, so if they're are numerous people saying one thing, but that one person says something unlike the others. If they strike me as having a better understanding of the subject.... that's who I'm rolling with...
