Mansour Alkmim then u just sell it n get that one. I just sold my series 2 for $250 so I wore it for 9 months and spent $100 Apple products r the only tech gear that holds a decent value. Everything else is worth next to nothing when it’s upgrade time.
everyone can rant about the negative parts...but come on people...expensive or not, this is what people have dreamed about for quite a few years, and apple does a damn good job at doing it right. they can't include every single thing that is presented to them. and the platform they are using seems pretty damn great to me. only thing more futuristic to me would be a hologram watch. lol
I'd be even more surprised if he didn't say that; Ben clearly has a strong grasp on the value of money; only a fool would be like "Yeah, whatever it's _only_ $1000 bucks" - it's a disposable item after all. Look at it this way, go cash $1000 from your bank, and keep in a drawer. Cash another $1000 and in 18-months, burn it. The former is akin to that Rolex you've got around (chances are, you'd be able to sell most Rolexes for more than that any day of the week - they do retain some value). Now that you've burnt that $1000, does it feel like a "whole hell" like a lot of money. I bet it does.
It’s really meant for quick trips to the gym or for running a few errands. Unfortunately battery tech still isn’t good enough to go a full day on LTE. Although if you’re around WiFi you can still ditch the phone for a longer amount of time.
True but it's handy for jogging, stopping off at a store and using Apple Pay for a drink or something, and still having connectivity for phonecalls without carrying your phone in your pocket. LTE, bright screens, Bluetooth, WiFi, they all take their toll on what is admittedly a tiny battery crammed into a wrist sized package.
It’s called “you’ll be on WiFi most of the time” 😂. You’re only ever using data basically when you’re driving or out on a walk. When you were in a building you’re on Wi-Fi which is most of the time. So four hours of data is awesome! Especially in that small of a device with that smaller battery
I love watches, and I have tried the Apple Watch twice. My problem is I get attached to the digital watch but then also feel bad for wearing it when I have spent money on mechanical watches. How do you find the balance in digital watch versus mechanical watch?
Correction: IN YOUR GEEK WORLD, all a watch does is tell time. A nice watch makes a person looks classy; powerful. Smartwatches makes you look like a teenager. Sorry. It's a different level.
"If you need a object to make you feel powerful..." Watches are about that. Watches are jewelry. Jewelry is designed to make you feel powerful (if you don't know). Smartwatches aren't jewelry. That's two different worlds. That's my point.
Can you take calls on the cellular version without the use of the airpods? Can u just talk into the watch? Is there an integrated speaker and mic in the body of the watch?
+Nicks Lcd or led screens or whatever they put on the apple watch are power gobblers. Meanwhile, I sneezed while I was working on a mechanical watch and the hands were so light thay they flew off. Never saw those hands again.
For everyone wanting a smartwatch from a person who has 3 because of enthusiasm and lack of knowledge on how to spend money wisely, this is my 2 cents on the matter: Apple watch (all series) - Styling, looks and the ability to turn heads. This is what I feel it's best know for. The health stuff is really good too but because I have an Android phone, I feel left out on some parts. It's mostly touch screen which I'm not too much of a fan for since my hands get sweaty really quickly when I'm jogging. Causes a lot of weird finger prints. The crown is good but it needs two fingers to make it work (need to push it from both sides of the watch). Tiny bit pricey but the looks match the price so I'm not complaining. App support is really good if you have an iPhone which I do not. Samsung gear S3 (frontier) - I love the spinny dial because it feels solid and I'm not touching the screen with my sweaty fingers. It has a sort of auto tap so you hover over an app for a second and it taps it for you. I have an Android but it's not a Samsung. That means that it works well with my phone but I still feel like I'm missing out on a bit. There's a lot of Banks that don't like Samsung pay so when I need to pay for something, I have to use Android Pay on my phone instead of using the watch which I can do with the Apple Watch. The OS isn't too bad but there's not really many apps available. I had to download the stopwatch and timer separately on a WATCH! Motorola 360 - its the lightest of the three, I can use Google pay, it has a cool circlular design. However, there's a tiny notch at the bottom that I'm not a big fan of. Again it's touch screen as well which means I had to get a screen protector for this one too. The big one is that there's not many out there. I had to search on the internet for a while to find one. Especially the gen 2. Not even amazon had it. PS this is from a person that is lazy, doesn't jog very often and doesn't like sport. I love the health features but I got the watches as a stylistic choice. I'll be honest, I love all three but the breakdown is for people who are a bit more responsible with their money compared to me. Honestly, you don't need three. Ive just not got enough brain cells to comprehend that.
I get more compliments on my Apple Watch than my best mates Rolex. I’m not even kidding. Personally I love my Watch because I’m a runner and a swimmer so it’s ideal. Function meets design. It’s funny to get so many compliments for a watch which only cost £369.
T- Smooth Well I use Apple Pay which means I show my watch off more. Therefore more compliments are common. You only notice a more expensive watch if you go looking for it and know watches.
I just ordered the black Melanese loop, which I thought was expensive enough, but what's the deal with ceramic? Why is it used, what makes it better? Etc..
Can you discuss in a Friday live about the position in todays market of a digital watch and how that leaves the market of the mechanical watch? And your projection about both industries in the future? Love to listen your opinion.
It doesn't affect the luxury watch market a whole lot, but brands like Fossil have had their stock price plummet after smartwatches became everyday objects
+Håkon Andreas Olaussen In fact, the smart watch market is expected to up the mechanical watch market in about 10-15 years. The problem with the current generation(before smart watches) was that they weren't wearing anything on their wrists. It is thought that they will get used to something on their wrist. And frankly, once you wear a watch everyday there is a tendency to feel naked without one. In the future they will look for that nice mechanical watch to wear during the times they want to be disconnected. Zenith, Rolex, Cartier, IWC have all said they are happy with the smartwatch market for the very reason of getting watches on the wrists of those younger people who would otherwise never wear one.
This would be awesome. I have some amazing watches but i tend to wear the Apple watch every day. It is primarily for the activity counter but also for the extra data I get around calendar, weather etc. My guilt of not wearing my 'real' watches is ongoing and somewhat immense.
I also read the article of Hodinkee about the Fossil’s crisis facing the rise of the smart watch industry and I understand that is bad for the quartz watch industry (just like that industry threatened the Swiss Watch industry in the earlier 70’s), but my preoccupation is about the change in consumption trends for watches for the next generations, let me explain a little bit better. I am a millennial that loves mechanical watches and haven’t thought about wearing a Smart Watch at all but now that you can have your phone at all times in that Apple Watch I’m seriously thinking about getting one, Also I’ve been planning to purchase a high end mechanical watch just because I love them but if I think deeper there’s no much of a necessity for one once I own the smart watch; therefore the purchase of a high end Swiss mechanical watch will be for a status statement purpose and Apple is going there with the Hèrmes versions of their Apple Watch. And I believe that the vast majority of the next generations will see this point. Rolex, A. Lange & Sohne, Cartier, Tag Heuer, etc. will have to invest in brand building to stay as the top of mind for top status brands. Also as the growth of the smart watches will have someway affect the sales of mechanical watches, people instead of using a sports Rolex during the week and a Patek for the weekends will swap the Rolex for the Apple watch. Don’t you think?
What is the difference between the ceramic and stainless? Besides the fact that one is metal and the other isn’t? What is a reason to opt for the ceramic?
The Apple watch is a piece of tech on a wrist. The Gear S3 is a classy look. One device looks like a mini phone, the other looks like an ordinary watch that happens to have multiple functionalities
Except it's not really "embracing the future" if it's obsolete within 2 or 3 years, a good automatic watch can go at least 5 years without a service, sometimes a decade, and with maintenance will continue to run decades later. With a smartwatch you're still limited by a finite number of battery recharges, and continual software updates that the hardware eventually starts to struggle with. I like the concept of smartwatches, and this one definitely does better than most with actual phone antennas inside now, but it's still yet another notification device that floods my mind with email reminders and other notifications when all I wanted was to check the time.
Good review Ben, I love the unbiased opinion, especially for you. It has its place and functionality in the industry. Thus it's still technology which will be outdated and replaced by a newer version. Undecided. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
The series 2 does this already. SOS button. No need to have he Cellular version. I just bought the series 2 stainless steel since I have my iPhone with me always. No regret. Period.
Dixie Normous I can’t imagine actually leaving my phone home. I like having the watch and Phone. Plus battery life is abysmal so far on watch OS 4 I can’t depend on the watch
Dixie Normous I cringe when I hear tech people say how their series zero is so slow and shitty battery when I too get a full day and barely any glitches.
How is the battery life? That’s the only thing that has me on the fence. I really want to get an Apple Watch and I feel like this is the one to get, but I need to be certain the battery life can hold.
Danny they really need that ...I think it's really stupid that u have to life up your watch just to wake it up to show the time, an It doesn't always work smh
soubido - just get the cheapest aluminum version like I did ~$450. Actually better in some ways because it is lighter. Ceramic is for people who don’t worry about the price. I think I should be able to get 2 yrs+ out of it and it is so nice to be able to go out without a phone. Really loving it.
The expensive ceramic version is for those who have that amount of disposable income. For the rest of people, a normal apple watch is much cheaper. Or just don't buy any watch.
What no one really talks about is does it cost extra to use it as a phone in other words does the carrier charge you like your adding another device or line to your existing plan so that you have to pay another monthly charge to use it as a phone???
That was a very nice video. Sadly i'm reading all kinds of disapproving comments (luckly it's just the vocal minority). As you guys said, this is a huge global phenomena that can't be ignored in the watch world, only old folks with older minds, refuse to accept this as a watch. Keep it up!
What is this about old folks and the old mind.....Resent the comment...I am old and have just ordered the newest watch Series 3 and will thoroughly enjoy it....I have had the watches since they came out.....
Good god. The review was perfect. It didn’t glorify too much, it didn’t dwell on useless rants, it was a balance on how the watch was used and focused on the human interaction with it. I’m a watch nerd and it is refreshing to have someone in the watch community review a product that is basically a computer on your wrist.
i can''t use any third-party app on my new Apple Watch Series 3, does it sound familiar to you? I believe the problem is from my Iphone 7 plus because it worked well when paired to my brother Iphone X. please help me if you have time, thanks.
Iliq Dimov I just got the iwatch2 and I will always carry my phone with it too. Not convinced a sim is needed for me since I hate talking on a phone anyway. I use Facebook messenger to talk to people.
the real irony is that all of the top phone manufacturers are making actual phone calls more and more obsolete. and in fact they really are i might use my phone 100 times a day but not make a single phone call. The second irony is that probably poop emoji will be much more required feature rather than a making a call via watch (sure, after novelty of talking to your wrist wears off) The third irony (which granted you have mentioned) is that super innovative watch will become obsolete in 2 years time, and will be replaced by much faster chipset, more cpu and ram... the fourth irony is that your cellular watch do not have a dual camera with optical image stabilization - so you have to carry your phone anyway probably the last irony is that none of the people (lets say vast majority) who actually work out (run, bike) who need GPS to take advantage of their workout stats don't use apple watch (check Strava for sources) rather they use an atual sport watch who don't die on you after couple of hours. and just an observation - are there any actual people who use AW to read magazines and/or long posts on tiny screen? if so - why?
Apple's intention is to replace mechanical watches on the wrist. By integrating it into every aspect of the wearer's life, the wearer must ask, "why should I take this off when it's more useful?" But as Ben says, the Apple Watch will be in a drawer in 18 months from either component failure or to make way for a newer version. Watch lovers must default to their inner identity here. THERE WILL NEVER BE A VINTAGE APPLE WATCH. period.
Apple's intention is not "to replace mechanical watches on the wrist". Quartz already did that. Apple's intention is to sell a piece of wearable tech. Exactly, wearable tech. Apple doesn't care about your mechanical watch, they're not a watch manufacturer, they're a tech company. People wearing mechanical watches are NOT the market for the Apple Watch. Somehow, you take this tech product as a personal attack. But guess what? Apple doesn't know you exist.
🤔Yada Yada Yada...but you never said anything about the battery & talk time & how after you made that one call you were at 30% battery and had to recharge your watch & you didn't show how you had one more thing in your pocket...your watch charger! 🤔
I hate to say it, mechanical watches will soon be relics, they only do about 10% of what the Apple Watch does. Ever since the Apple Watch 1 came out, it has not even crossed my mind about wearing a mechanical watch.
Mechanical watches are jewelry. Jewelry is designed to make you feel powerful. One little secret: You think what?! Rich folks buy mechanical watches to tell time? Noooooooooooo. They buy it because they appreciate the finer things in life. The craftsmanship behind it.
Cesar Saucedo so here's the issue. What's the point of a smart watch when I've got a smartphone in my pocket, the apple watch series 3 becomes useful when you leave your phone at home and take Just the watch. But battery life is horrible when it needs to connect to LTE, run apps, cellular networks and Wifi. After 4-6 hours of on wrist use... It's dead. And what good is that if I start my morning at 6am and have a dead $1300 ceramic & rubber braclet by 11am, With no phone. Elegant and beautiful quartz Time pieces that double as "smartwatches " with notifications and smart tracking, NFC pay and still maintain a handsome price o Lf jewelery. From cheap ones from fossil to expensive time pieces from Breitling.
try pulling out your fat phone from your pocket to check notifications while you're sitting in a meeting. Not so easy. Or even while you're walking down the street and your phone is stuck in your jeans pocket. Or while you're playing tennis and your phone is on the bench with your backpack. It's easier to just lift your wrist and see.
You feel liberated and you can do more because you are not carrying a cellphone? Well thank you Apple for releasing this man from slavery I’m glad you were saved from carrying that 500lb phone around, what a Apple paid statement that was, did you get that watch for free.
It is however only useful in my opinion if you are a 1 watch guy/girl. If you wear different watches then it becomes in a sense pointless to have this as you are eliminating one of the main reasons to buy this watch; which is because you don't need your phone.
I have the series 3 Black Stainless Steel...I was wondering if you had advice for selling in preparation for the new model. Like when would be good to sell? Probably the month before series 4 is released? And general thoughts about if it's worth it ect
Buy the standard watch for $300. Use it for 5 years and then get a new one :) Apple products don't go obselete after 2 years like pretty much all other pieces of tech. They get updates for years to come. Don't get fooled by your blind hate.
How can you justify spending $1,300 on a device that will be totally obsolete in two years time at best and will not be even working at all when the battery is almost dead after five years? You may ask the same question for smart phones as well. However, phones have become necessities in today's world unlike smart watches which still cannot offer anyting more than a luxurious convenience. I wouldn't mind paying $8,000 for that Zenith, though.
Halid I'm still using the original Apple Watch with the newest OS on it and it works just fine. You people are silly if you think you have to upgrade your devices every 1 or 2 years. My iPhone 4, I had for 4+ years before upgrading to my iPhone 6 which I'm now starting my 4th year with also. I have the original Apple Watch, it's over 2 years old. I have someone that will but it from me now for $100. I'm thinking about it. HomeKit support in the Apple Watch it great!!!. It would be nice if Siri worked faster. It's still usable, but faster would be nice. Not sure about cell service as I almost always have my phone on me. You get get a Apple watch for a fraction of that ceramic Apple watch version. I still have zero interest in wearing a pain old watch. I stopped wearing watches when I got my first dumb phone as it showed the time. Why have 2 devices that show the time?. The Apple Watch does so much. You could even call it your portable echo device!
Landon Dodd Except that once the battery is down, and it goes into power save mode, it becomes a regular watch, and just tells the time. And it will do that for days.
Well.....what can i say? Charge it for 10 hrs...receive a call...talk for 1 hour ...again charge it for 10 hours....WTH... work on battery life APPLE...but will definitely get it if they short this problem out real soon
If u talk for an hour on ur watch, u have bigger issues than battery life. Apple can only go with what will fit the Watch with the best battery tech at the time. I was pleased with series 2 battery life n with my 3 I only intend to use it to get texts and calls for the hour that I workout n leave my phone at home because it weighs me down. I don’t expect for the battery to be less then 80% when I get home from my run, the series 2 was at around 92% after morning run. I will take a 10% battery loss to be connected on my runs instead of missing them. Idk, guess it’s all about how it’ll fit into YOUR life. I’m betting it’ll fit into mine better then the 2 did n I loved that. I also hope they get Better Battery life but the size factor is the limiting factor. I mean, I want better battery life on EVERY product. Battery tech is far behind n needs to catch up. Sorry for the book.
Cory Thayer dont get me wrong...i love the watch....and i know i will buy it....but my need will be a little more battery life....so that it can fit into my life style...not the other way round...the features are lovely and i wudnt want to take it off....i would hate it keep it charging all the time ..that all...i want to enjoy the watch....BTW..thanks for the detailed battery useage...that helped a lot to understand how can it be used...
Please, please do not compare mechanical watches such as Zenith to smart watches. It is an insult to horology. In 10 years when the tech is completely outdated and useless, no one will remember the apple watch.
locutusv1 well said. Plus it's ridiculous that he tries to justify a comparison by both having ceramic material. Luxury watches are about longevity , a time piece for life. This Apple watch will be useless in 5 years if your lucky and the battery life at that point in time will be laughable
Mechanical watches are a dying breed. Only old fogeys think they are doing something cool by wearing them. The new generation won’t even know wtf a Rolex is.
David T, it’s sad though. In an age where everything becomes obsolete in 3 years at most having a piece such as a Rolex/Omega/Seiko feels like an anchor, something to slow you down and apreciate design and craftsmanship that can least decades. Don’t get me wrong , I do love some new tech but it getting so crazy it’s hard to keep up.
@cerus98: Misconception: a view or opinion that is incorrect because it is based on faulty thinking or understanding. Kia sells more cars than Ferrari per year. Kias are better than Ferraris? Nope.
@David T: Rolex it is the first brand when people think about luxury (research about it). So, you should wrote like this instead: "Me and my geek friends don't care about Rolex; powerful people do"
You can also carry a portable keychain Apple Watch charger. The ones that give 1 & 1/2 full charges on the go... They come in hand if you do a lot of talk time with Apple Watch + bluetooth/airpods for all calls.
There’s no chance you can message for long periods on the watch, I have the series 1 and it’s ok for the odd short message, you still need your phone with you in my opinion.
Lol. Different, not better. The old Android vs Apple argument. They r both good, just what suits ur lifestyle better n what ecosystem ur bought into. The S3 wouldn’t sync well with my devices nowadays. My stuff works across everything my tablet, phone, watch, computer. Android n windows there is no such thing. The S3 is certainly better looking IMO tho. .
You really have sunk to an all time low. There are so many real watches you could have on this segment including real budget watches but no, you choose a ruddy apple computer ( i refuse to call it a watch), This along with your elitist stance, I gave you guys a third chance but this is the final straw . So many many watches you could have chosen, heck, how about a humble Timex, at least that has credibility! Unsubscribed... Again! Not that you will care a damn. Oh and I am sure there will be a bunch of sycophants calling me a troll or such but I don´t care. If critisim now is defined as trolling then this is indeed a sad world.
ianmedium I don’t consider criticism as trolling but as smart watches progress and become more adopted they become the primary, and for many the only wrist device for an entire generation of people. Not covering it would be a mistake.
I think you misunderstand, it will never replace the watch. But i think it will replace the phone. If that was the case, the phone would have replaced watches many years ago. A mechanical watch is not about having the time, it's so much more. It is a statement, and the last accessory a man can wear! It's a beautiful piece of engineering that reconnects us to the past, and reminds us what marvels lay behind us and never to forget them. It's a well lubricated machine, that only works when every single insignificant part works together to create something magnificent. All these things.. a smart watch will never be.
Hi Ian - we always welcome feedback and though you refuse to call it a watch, the truth of the matter is it really could be one of the most important things to happen to this industry in years. You may not like it, that's fine, but us being us, doing what we do, and ignoring this important product simply isn't an option. We are aren't switching philosophies, or changing anything about what we do - we are covering an important introduction in the only way we know how - thoroughly. Come back tomorrow and you'll see some great stuff on mechanical watches again, promise. We'd even be happy to talk to you offline about your concerns if you feel like it - email us at contact@hodinkee.com to chat.
I do have a question though. I get that you like smartwatches, but why always apple? Are you paid by them? Because from an outside perspective, it sure seems like you are pushing their product down our throat.
Would making the Apple Watch a little bit bigger be out of the question? I know it’s supposed to be small but I feel like the overall screen size could be just a tad bigger.
my only problem with this watch is that next year there will be an even better version of it.
Mansour Alkmim then u just sell it n get that one. I just sold my series 2 for $250 so I wore it for 9 months and spent $100 Apple products r the only tech gear that holds a decent value. Everything else is worth next to nothing when it’s upgrade time.
agree also apple doesnt always make huge updates on their apple watches as well so you should be good for at least 2 years.
Exactly
I bought my series 2 in March assuming there would be at least an 18 month gap between the S2 and S3 like there was with the S0 and 2
how do you like the Series 2 so far , im thinking about getting the 3 but im not sold on it yet.
its a damn shame the airpods dont come in black.
everyone can rant about the negative parts...but come on people...expensive or not, this is what people have dreamed about for quite a few years, and apple does a damn good job at doing it right. they can't include every single thing that is presented to them. and the platform they are using seems pretty damn great to me. only thing more futuristic to me would be a hologram watch. lol
Randy Schanck exactly!!!!!
Randy Schanck well said
👍
Randy Schanck it's not that the watch sucks. It's about the price.
T- Smooth you devices don’t have half the features Apple has while still maintaining class
“That is a whole hell lot of money” I thought I’d never heard Ben say that
Widman Calderón
I assume that Ben says that constantly.
Mike S I totally agree with you! 1500 bucks for something that will be dated in One or two years tops, IS A LOT OF MONEY
Nice but it's not watch
Pedro Velasquez Chilet it’s a smart device that You can wear on your wrist that also works as a phone but can tell time as well
4 hrs on LTE is not very practical if you leave your phone at home
r56mini its 1 hour on LTE. 4 for talk time while hooked up via Bluetooth to your phone.
I think the comparison to an actual watch regarding price and functionality is really interesting .
Good music choice man
for real, i was surprised lol
Great music, it fits like a glove, is it from Terry Divine King?, what track?
Reminds me of American Beauty
Jumanji 2017
So my wireless plan wouldn’t be affected by having the cellular version correct?
I love watches, and I have tried the Apple Watch twice. My problem is I get attached to the digital watch but then also feel bad for wearing it when I have spent money on mechanical watches. How do you find the balance in digital watch versus mechanical watch?
Wear both :)
I do not find the balance.
Mechanical watches can make you feel powerful.
Digital watches make you feel like... everybody else.
Hipster is wearing a smartwatch with a fake dial that tries to imitate a REAL watch.
Real watches are timeless.
Apple watches are soulless.
Correction: IN YOUR GEEK WORLD, all a watch does is tell time.
A nice watch makes a person looks classy; powerful.
Smartwatches makes you look like a teenager.
Sorry. It's a different level.
"If you need a object to make you feel powerful..."
Watches are about that.
It would be really interesting if Apple can implement an automatic watch's rotor to power its smartwatch
The amount of energy a rotor is generating is far too little to give any substantial charge.
Wouldn't work even in you wildest dreams, at least if you don't stick the watch at the end of a spinning drill
SeaJayBelfast lol
+Nicks Lcd or led screens or whatever they put on the apple watch are power gobblers. Meanwhile, I sneezed while I was working on a mechanical watch and the hands were so light thay they flew off. Never saw those hands again.
it would be better solar.
For everyone wanting a smartwatch from a person who has 3 because of enthusiasm and lack of knowledge on how to spend money wisely, this is my 2 cents on the matter:
Apple watch (all series) - Styling, looks and the ability to turn heads.
How can you not mention the battery ?
Gavin Kilduff because he is hiding it's performance... just like that ;)
nilts1975 Battery lasts 2 days
If you use cellular function, it will die in half day.
smallgi2002 You got data to prove that statement?
On direct LTE connection, you get "over an hour" of talk time with that battery... It's on apples page
How do you keep your AirPods so clean.? You have had yours for a year?? I’ve had mine for six months and they’re dirty dirty dirty.
I get more compliments on my Apple Watch than my best mates Rolex.
I’m not even kidding.
Personally I love my Watch because I’m a runner and a swimmer so it’s ideal. Function meets design.
It’s funny to get so many compliments for a watch which only cost £369.
T- Smooth
Well I use Apple Pay which means I show my watch off more.
Therefore more compliments are common.
You only notice a more expensive watch if you go looking for it and know watches.
R C, yeah but you can trade a Rolex for a car. Good luck with doing that with something that's worthless without electricity
oscar e so what's your point?
Lol bruh you lying
So true. People always notice my Apple Watch and ask what it can do.
I just ordered the black Melanese loop, which I thought was expensive enough, but what's the deal with ceramic? Why is it used, what makes it better? Etc..
Love the illmatic reference. Respect.
How long will the battery last while using all those functions in 1 day & without the phone?
Watching this in 2019 and the video still has a great value! Interesting thoughts, good work! Thanks!
I’m planning on getting an Apple Watch, but won’t need the LTE version. Should I go with a Series 3 GPS only? Or even go for a series 2?
According to hodinkee's facebook, Fossil has gone from 83.75$ to 9$ since the launch of the Apple watch
Really good video! Well done.
Would it be viable to actually not own a phone and only the apple watch (cellular) ?
It's called honoring the past and embracing the future, you people need to understand business....
I'm glad there is people like you who can explain things to us of lesser intelligence.
Can’t you make phone call without the earphone?
Doesn’t the the watch have speaker? And mic
Good review Ben, I love the unbiased opinion, especially for you. It has its place and functionality in the industry. Thus it's still technology which will be outdated and replaced by a newer version. Undecided. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
How many complications does this watch have? Is there a version of the watch with a moon-phase?
This is for fitness people looking to do a short run without their phone and to use the lte in an emergency.
f22shift this is exactly how I see it being used also!
f22shift if only apple said that.
Yeah but it's not automatic 😂😂
imoutof yourleague it's automatic charging now 😂
what do you mean by automatic ? educate me about smartwatches for i am a virgin !
Bakr Znagui wireless charging
Bakr Znagui The Zenith mechanical one is an automatic watch... that’s what he meant.
huh?
What was the battery life like? I heard it drains very fast with calls.
Great video. Once Apple knows how to display the time continuously, the only ones left buying an $8000 timepiece will be watch enthusiasts
Danny they really need that ...I think it's really stupid that u have to life up your watch just to wake it up to show the time, an It doesn't always work smh
Will probably happen next year since Apple is finally starting to use OLED displays which will allow this.
QsiN all Apple watches use OLED displays
Captain Danny wow, 2 years later, exactly this happens. (Minus the price)
Can you link the watch with other Bluetooth devices?
Couldnt they come in 36mm like vintage apple watches???😅
Can you listen to music without your phone or earphones? Just from the watch itself? Like the Gear S3?
I still can't see myself spending over $1k on a watch that will be outdated in a year....
You could just like...get the cheaper version that does the same things
soubido - just get the cheapest aluminum version like I did ~$450.
That's a simple one,, if you can't afford it, don't buy it.
MrMelvins if you can’t afford one, whine about it.
Do I have to use Apple Music or can I load Spotify with it?
That tom ford wallet ❤️❤️❤️
How was the battery for daily use? Thanks.
1:10 my man doesn’t have any condoms on him rip
What no one really talks about is does it cost extra to use it as a phone in other words does the carrier charge you like your adding another device or line to your existing plan so that you have to pay another monthly charge to use it as a phone???
Amazing I have this watch in space black stainless Steel 😎❤️
Tell us about battery life while you using cellular ? Can watch handle the same volume of phone calls as your phone ?
The original feels aster with the os4 upgrade.
Do you pay for additional device on your carrier
That was a very nice video. Sadly i'm reading all kinds of disapproving comments (luckly it's just the vocal minority). As you guys said, this is a huge global phenomena that can't be ignored in the watch world, only old folks with older minds, refuse to accept this as a watch. Keep it up!
CaptainSeebas I am 23 years old and for me this is not a watch- it's a smartphone for your wrist.
Simeon Aleksiev why not just call it a smart watch? Lol
Yes, such a nice video... just ignored the battery life... that's all... how naive could be a person, how?
What is this about old folks and the old mind.....Resent the comment...I am old and have just ordered the newest watch Series 3 and will thoroughly enjoy it....I have had the watches since they came out.....
Good god. The review was perfect. It didn’t glorify too much, it didn’t dwell on useless rants, it was a balance on how the watch was used and focused on the human interaction with it. I’m a watch nerd and it is refreshing to have someone in the watch community review a product that is basically a computer on your wrist.
This was really good and honest video - I'm sold :-D
i can''t use any third-party app on my new Apple Watch Series 3, does it sound familiar to you? I believe the problem is from my Iphone 7 plus because it worked well when paired to my brother Iphone X. please help me if you have time, thanks.
I prefer to have my phone in my pocket and my watch on my wrist.
Agreed. Strapping an antenna to your pulse is about as intuitive to strapping your phone on your forehead...
Iliq Dimov I just got the iwatch2 and I will always carry my phone with it too. Not convinced a sim is needed for me since I hate talking on a phone anyway. I use Facebook messenger to talk to people.
Iliq Dimov I would rather have my phone on my wrist and my watch in my pocket
Sry but this is not even silly :D
Just wondering what brand of eyeglasses you are wearing??
the real irony is that all of the top phone manufacturers are making actual phone calls more and more obsolete.
and in fact they really are i might use my phone 100 times a day but not make a single phone call.
The second irony is that probably poop emoji will be much more required feature rather than a making a call via watch (sure, after novelty of talking to your wrist wears off)
The third irony (which granted you have mentioned) is that super innovative watch will become obsolete in 2 years time, and will be replaced by much faster chipset, more cpu and ram...
the fourth irony is that your cellular watch do not have a dual camera with optical image stabilization - so you have to carry your phone anyway
probably the last irony is that none of the people (lets say vast majority) who actually work out (run, bike) who need GPS to take advantage of their workout stats don't use apple watch (check Strava for sources) rather they use an atual sport watch who don't die on you after couple of hours.
and just an observation - are there any actual people who use AW to read magazines and/or long posts on tiny screen? if so - why?
I just bought an AW. But I agree with everything you said bro down to the last word 😂😂
Is that a reflection on the watch at 4:44? Also the digital crown looks “scratched” at 03:18, but can be just some dirt. Thank you for the review!
THERE WILL NEVER BE A VINTAGE APPLE WATCH. period.
iimaniDAVID
www.vintagelcd.com/
Never?...
iimaniDAVID you’re trash
Component failure. Right.
Apple doesn't know you exist.
does it work with normal BT earphones? or only Apple Earpods?
🤔Yada Yada Yada...but you never said anything about the battery & talk time & how after you made that one call you were at 30% battery and had to recharge your watch & you didn't show how you had one more thing in your pocket...your watch charger! 🤔
Can you connect to Wi-Fi on the Apple Watch Series 3?
What's your opinion on the strap that Sinn offers for combining an Apple Watch with a mechanical one.
Never would I buy that. I like my original stainless steel with link bracelet
to bad I have a google phone are they compatible with android yet?
You feel liberated and you can do more because you are not carrying a cellphone? Well thank you Apple for releasing this man from slavery I’m glad you were saved from carrying that 500lb phone around, what a Apple paid statement that was, did you get that watch for free.
Everything is sounds great, but, battery. It does not last long. i didnt see u use a charger and in less than hour u would need one...
It is however only useful in my opinion if you are a 1 watch guy/girl. If you wear different watches then it becomes in a sense pointless to have this as you are eliminating one of the main reasons to buy this watch; which is because you don't need your phone.
Jack Doran I agree. I’m a Watch one guy so it’s perfect for me. I just change bands.
I have the series 3 Black Stainless Steel...I was wondering if you had advice for selling in preparation for the new model. Like when would be good to sell? Probably the month before series 4 is released? And general thoughts about if it's worth it ect
Wonderful commercial
Was there any cons for the Apple Watch in this review?
wristphone
Can it last the whole day, what is battery capacity?
It's not a watch.
It's a gadget that tells time.
Matt Hatter If it’s a gadget that tells time and it’s strapped on your wrist it’s a watch.
It is wrist computer. Not a watch.
juhva Complexity It’s definitely a watch.
Matt Hatter Casio watches are not watches?
r56mini Casio watches are not smartwatches. Smartwatches are smaller smartphones for your wrist
Hi..does before going to any water park..if someone select as water mode on watch then will it become water proof
I'd rather service my watch every 5 years for a few hundred dollars instead of spending 1300 every year to have one that wasn't obsolete.
Buy the standard watch for $300. Use it for 5 years and then get a new one :) Apple products don't go obselete after 2 years like pretty much all other pieces of tech. They get updates for years to come. Don't get fooled by your blind hate.
What about Samsung S3 Frontier? Did you compare the two watches?
How can you justify spending $1,300 on a device that will be totally obsolete in two years time at best and will not be even working at all when the battery is almost dead after five years? You may ask the same question for smart phones as well. However, phones have become necessities in today's world unlike smart watches which still cannot offer anyting more than a luxurious convenience. I wouldn't mind paying $8,000 for that Zenith, though.
Halid
I'm still using the original Apple Watch with the newest OS on it and it works just fine.
You could even call it your portable echo device!
whats the point of cellular device application?
Ceramic? That looks like gray plastic
What about battery life? While only on cellular? This compared to wifi
And absolutely no mention of battery life whatsoever.
No power, might as well be reviewing a bracelet. This review is a #miss
Landon Dodd Except that once the battery is down, and it goes into power save mode, it becomes a regular watch, and just tells the time. And it will do that for days.
Ben, does this watch sit right next to the TAG Connected in your collection?
DID HE SAY 1 300 DOLLARS?1?!?!!?!?
Jared Linares $450*
Depends on the model this one did cost 1300
what about battery life when you use it for talk or streaming music, you didn't mention that.
What wallet is that??
George Costanza's
$2000 for a wallet? I hate this planet.
darude sandstorm
Rolex
How about navigation? I still need my phone for that though.
Well.....what can i say? Charge it for 10 hrs...receive a call...talk for 1 hour ...again charge it for 10 hours....WTH... work on battery life APPLE...but will definitely get it if they short this problem out real soon
Watchfreak Kumar charge it for 10 hours? It has a tiny battery, it charges very quickly.
6644pmr well....gist is ....just want a longer talktime or something....
Radio transmitters suck up a *lot* of juice. By far the most battery-draining task on a cell phone is transmitting via the cell connection.
But does the bezel rotate?
@cerus98:
Misconception: a view or opinion that is incorrect because it is based on faulty thinking or understanding.
Kia sells more cars than Ferrari per year.
Kias are better than Ferraris? Nope.
@David T:
Rolex it is the first brand when people think about luxury (research about it).
Not a watch bro
And you have to recharge it how often from your use?!?!?!
What wallet is that, i need to know right now.
Zhemin Lin it’s only $2,000.
george that means my wallet will be always more expensive than my money in it
Dennis 370 that’s crazy to think about.
What does the red dot on the screen mean?
A lot of Millennial comments in here...
There’s no chance you can message for long periods on the watch, I have the series 1 and it’s ok for the odd short message, you still need your phone with you in my opinion.
The gear s3 is better
Vivaldi Jean I have a Gear S3. It’s not bad.
The S3 is certainly better looking IMO tho. .
Cory Thayer it doesn’t even run android though.
HEY!!!! What's going on there at 4:42? Is that a chip in the lower left-hand corner?
>*being this mad*
Does it have the geneva seal?
Excellent Review! Can this watch operate golf gps apps? If so, do you recommend a good golf app?
Would making the Apple Watch a little bit bigger be out of the question? I know it’s supposed to be small but I feel like the overall screen size could be just a tad bigger.
