Don't worry Geoff, more and more people are waking up to the scam because of energy prices. It's starting to cost everyone money now, that's how you get people's attention
When they're cutting down millions of trees to build wind farms, when you have Gates, Gore, Kerry etc living in beachfront mansions and flying around in private jets, it's pretty obvious reducing CO2 emissions is not the real goal.
The real goal is taking away your personal freedom. It's all about reducing your standard of living.

Hold on. This isn't taking into account real world miles per kWh - which plummet in cold weather while ice become more efficient thanks to re-using waste heat.
Or how about their extra weight which hammers roads more?
Or what about their much lower payloads which mean if you want a car to do the same job you need an even larger one with an even more overweight battery?
It also doesn't take into account that grid electricity usually (and moreso when demand is high) comes from a grid which uses - at best - 60% efficient power stations.
With a 95% efficient electric motor that sounds great.
What about getting that power from the power station to the road? Power station to transformer, transmission box, lines, local box, transformer, house meter, fuse box, charger, battery, controller, motor - at every point it loses a certain percentage of its power - between 2% and 5% usually - and most of the time the battery will need cooling or heating and if left in the cold or heat that need continues.
In a decent ice the motor runs at around 40% efficiency and by the time it gets to the wheels thats usually between 25% and 35% depending on load and use - almost exactly the same as the overall efficiency of the ev.
But with a much lighter car to move, a heap less emissions to make, no concerns about a massive battery that can't really be recycled efficiently, potential for well north of 200k miles if looked after and a fairly unlimited timespan in which to cover that.
It can also tow, carry a reasonable amount of people and cargo and doesn't need billions of quid of infrastructure creating environmental destruction everywhere it goes thanks to overly limited range.
Hybrids make sense because they allow an ice to operate near its maximum efficiency more often. Plug-ins make sense if you have solar because they can usually take on enough to make full use of that while keeping the battery much more healthy for longer than an ev and not needing anywhere near the capacity in the first place.
Battery ev's only make sense if you use them to pretty much the edge of their range every time over lots of miles and even then only if used on a lot of renewables - even then thats before we go down the rabbit hole of how clean renewables really are when you include the maintenance, lifespan and fragility of most.
Of course the more ev's the more demand on the grid and the less percentage of that power can come from renewables so its a catch 22 that sooner or later with mass uptake the ev will end up more dirty than an ice.
I think its fairly obvious to any sane person that ev's are certainly not the planet saving second coming they are made out to be.
Want to watch emissions drop through the floor? Stop people commuting into large cities for jobs which do not require their physical presense - especially from some of the larger distances which can be over 100 miles each way.
People who travel into London (for example) to sit in an office infront of a computer do not need to be there in the first place and certainly don't need to travel 25, 50, 75 miles each way in rush hour to do it.
If you have a look at the figures its astonishing how many people commute and how far from - all to sit on the internet in exactly the same way as they would in their living room.
Those offices could be used to aleviate the housing crisis and the time spent in traffic polluting the planet could be spent making a cuppa before work.
The rush hour traffic would be cut in half meaning less emissions from the people travelling as they don't have to sit in a line of traffic, overall average mileages would plummet - meaning far less wear and tear on cars, roads and far less fuel burn and people would get an extra hour or two at each end of the day where they aren't wasting it.
I understand that to some the office is a social club which is simply an extension of their school days but I feel like they need to grow up at some point - especially as these are usually the people with company cars who bleat on about how great their ev is.
Why is work from home when able not the norm and why should people who use their cars sensibly and when required be forced to pay a small fortune for vehicles we don't want to replace vehicles we already have which over our low mileage will be better for the planet in the first place?
I have no problem with high mile users but I have a massive problem with wasteful users.
No one is going to be bothered if you like to pop to the seaside now and then but why waste hundreds of miles per week going to a job which really doesn't need you there?
As an owner of a 53 year old car (and a 22 year old one),this is now becoming embarrassing as i'm nearly qualifying as a tree hugger!

You're doing much more for the environment by using those old cars rather than chucking them and buying a new one than any EV owner is.
2000 Chevy pickup truck with 282k miles. Nothing to benefit by getting rid of it since it still runs and drives great. BTW how can I haul the things I need in a little EV.

Mate it's not about control, it's about greed. The car manufactures see that gas powered cars are on the way out and this heavy lean into electric cars is them trying to hold on to their profits like the good little capitalists they are. This is despite the fact that no infrastructure network on the planet could even handle a full switch to electric. The real solution has been around for a long time now and it's trains, trams and metro's. They are way more energy efficient than an electric car and can transport way more people in one go.

Wood chips are burnt at Drax power station, and yes they are produced in the USA and shipped over here to be burnt at Drax. Fun fact Drax does not have to count any emissions from its own power generation process as part of its annual emissions report etc.
And from Canada and they are chopping down forests then processing the wood through a factory to make pellets. Bio mass requires approximately four times the amount by weight of coal to produce the same amount of steam to power the generators. Coal power stations have their chimneys go through a scrubber Wood stations do not it’s all a scam

Most Wind Farms and Solar Farms in the UK are backed up by diesel generators - the wind don't blow and the sun don't shine enough 85% of the time so the wind and solar farms are backed up by diesel generators - because these diesel generators are backing up the solar and wind farms they are counted as GREEN RENEWABLE ENERGY - so 85% of so the called GREEN RENEWABLE ENERGY is actually diesel generated.
You forgot to mention that Drax receives over a BILLION pounds a year in taxpayers money vis subsidies for being so “green”. Oh yes they do. As the saying goes, you couldn’t make this sh*t up.

At Primary school in the 1960's we were taught that the motorways would be a good thing because the cars trucks etc making long / fast journeys would basically be in tree lined "valleys" that would absorb the carbon to make our towns safe.. As a "Dinosaur" now I think we need to stand and be counted as this all tax and fk all to do with climate etc and I'm now more bothered about the BS my grandchildren will have to endure.
It would be great if trees had actually been planted along motorways instead of being cut down.
A 100ft 'safe zone' would be an improvement from what I remember of traveling M4 pretty regular (in case high winds blew tree over)
It would be pretty simple to have access points at all the 'Police observation' area's and fast growing pine or slow growing deciduous planted to absorb carbon emissions with very little impact on the farm land. plus, there are already subsidies for tree planting (that way you wouldn't need new access roads across farmland)
Geoff, we can't plant trees as we need that extra space for the houses we need for all our new friends!

Study in a migration hotspot near Gibraltar found the only birds slow and dumb enough to get killed were Griffon Vultures - and hardly any of them.
I like the point made by Geoff. If they were honest the first decision would be to ban short term car leasing. However in today society banning a financial product is perceived as pure blasphemy
The whole conecpt that you should change your car every three years is just bonkers. I'm 44 and have had three vehicles (all pre-owned) in my lifetime (4 if you count the old Nova borrowed from my Mum after I first passed my test!). Doing so saves hundreds of thousands of pounds and reduces overall emissions hugely. I do expect there to be a limit on how often you can replace your car at some point, but the climate will have to be perceived by the public to be getting a lot worse before such a move would be supported at the ballot box, so at least 10-15 years away.
Having the wrong political view is bad for your wealth, just ask Nigel Farage. BTW the best thing for the planet would be to stop felling rain-forest, or better yet, stop breeding people.
There is no climate crisis and no need for EVS, solar, wind.
Just like if they were honest all these tree huggers would only have one child and be reducing the population pressure. Notice not one of them wants to discuss that sacrifice: better to lecture others.
@@gingermattb I have kept my last two cars until they were 10-11 years old. I plan to do the same with my recently purchased used electric car. As you say, it is so much more cost effective.

Nonsense. The Government couldn't afford to lose the £35 billion they rake in from the UK motorist each year. The jobless total would also rise by at least 2 million, possibly more, with 800'000 jobs lost in the UK car making industry alone. Then there would be the jobs lost in the associated sectors, such as car dealerships, oil refineries, garage repair shops, tyre fitting depots, petrol stations, car washes, places like Halfords, thousands of jobs would go in the car insurance industry, Local Authority road maintenance crews etc etc. And you thought it was as simple as doing away with cars.......

I especially don't want any damaged EV's in or around my premises, mainly due to the fire risk.
Plant a tree in 73 we had when I was at school, they are still in my Dads garden.
I think at school in the 70s we were taught better about the environment than they are today. kids today think it is all new, but we had classes in environmental studies in the early 70s. And they were not political nor did they have this modern agenda. I remember the trees planting. They have to thank or generation for a lot of todays trees 👍

@@Mark.D.H. that depends on the car you were going to buy in the first place. Car prices are high now. If you are buying a 3 series BMW it's comparable to a Tesla M3. There's a difference but you way over state it.
Can somebody tell The Electric Viking that we in the UK don't want EVs. According to his latest video, sales in France and Germany are taking off and they get can't enough of them. These people in these countries must be well off to afford an EV. I could ramble on all day about them but I'll leave that to you.

He’s talking garbage. We drove right across Germany and France in April and the number of EVs we saw was less than 5%.
Every charging point ( that offers ten spaces and under cover ) that we saw was empty.

They have a huge number of unwanted car's and loads of workers will be laid off. From what l can gather through comments on UT, the German folk are not interested in EV's due to the high cost and low range of distance. I'll stick to my diesel straight 6 twin turbo!!!😊😊😊

EVs are a scam.
EVs sole purpose is to drive up the cost of vehicles. Average EV is 62k. Average gas vehicle is 40k.
And government is forcing manufacturers to make EVs and not invest in gas vehicles so the prices will continue to rise.
EVs are worse for the environment as they require you to destroy the earth to mine for the metals needed in batteries.
EVs don't reduce carbon emissions until you drive over 100k miles. If we all drove an EV it would only drop carbon emissions by 0.4%
EVs also require a compromise in driving. They can't tow. They do horrible at highway speeds as they lose efficiency. And they're awful in inclement weather like wind or cold.
EVs are a scam.....and thats before the repair bill hits because repairs increase cost of ownership way over gas equivalents.

Definitely seems we are being priced off the road and evs are being used as a lever .There is only one issue , which is that of towing . I saw a white tesla last week towing a reasonably sized caravan .

Incorrect. The average price of an EV is £50k. No one is telling to go out and buy a 120k ev. The 100k mile figure is just made up garbage.

And the 100k number is absolutely accurate. You should look at how your blood batteries are produced with child labor, slave labor, and huge machines, plus the energy used to charge your blood batteries still produce carbon and fossil fuels.

100%. Even when I was in school (a long time ago, 1980s/1990s) the class brown nose would do talks about why we should get rid of cars. Then at the end of the day their mum and dad came round (two streets away) to pick them up in a large 4x4 vehicle whilst I had a half hour walk home.
Yep, was speaking to my mates wife the other day and she was like "Yea we need to get cars off the road for the environment". I then asked her about her car and she said "Yes I do use my car too much actually". It's all just virtue signalling but it's someone else that needs to stop driving, not them.

Absolutely agree that nothing is carbon neutral but it is about sustainability. You can absolutely say there is toxicity involved in EV manufacturing but you can never say that an ICE car is less toxic.
So if you are saying we shouldn't have either car, then I can agree. That would be the best for sure. What I don't understand is the sheer fear/loathing and dread of EVs. Can't we have an alternative? This channel is all about old cars. There will be old ICE cars on the roads well after I die.
I just don't understand the need for such derision towards what is just a car at the end of the day.

@2:25 if you read the article its only really coal that is the major culprit to CO2, the article noted Poland & China, which is majority powered by coal, which takes 77,000 miles before payback. However it missed out the UK, which is 1.5% coal, the real figure is approximatly 10,000 miles or a year. Once you take into account that many EV owners charge overnight which is near 100% Nuclear / Wind etc, then its not as bad as you, mail, macmaster etc are making out. Look on the back of your electric bill for the real figures. We're with EDF, and only 16% is from fossil fuels, with 63% french nuclear! :- which kind of makes me happy, not only that it cost 1.6p / mile to run, but also that our french counterparts are sorting out all the nuclear issues for us brits👍

I drive a full size American gas guzzler but it's 24 years old so I'm an environmentalist. I've only ever driven cars that were at least ten years old. I've been saying for 20+ years that people that drive classic cars as their daily are the true environmentalists.

I think that as well as planting trees people should reinstall the living boundaries around their houses. No more panelling and brick walls and more hedgerows and bushes. Everywhere was green when I was young in the 70s, now it's and wood panels and driveways.
Some new builds are terrible for this. Luckily who ever planned our neighbourhood actually thought about the environment somewhat...
When I was a small human in the 1950s. my uncle Ray had a Bentley like the green ones in your vid, don't know the model, and an SS Jag. I remember being burned several times helping to strip the green paint off the Bentley with Nitromors for repainting. Great times, had much fun. He was a founder member of the Mid Cheshire Motor Club. Spent many happy hours at Oulton Park. How green were we then.? (No Armco then)

If people don't remember to charge their cars. It's very similar to petrol really isn't it? You look at the gauge. You refill! It's not tough. I think RAC should charge a delivery charge.
We go to the woods on Sur Ron EVs, some lads charge them in the car park using petrol generators whilst having BBQs. These bikes are more exhilarating than ICE, easier to use, cost about 25p per hour to run if you charge at home. Motors don't need oil or new pistons every 10 hours. More fun than Karting at £1 per minute for the basic ones.
I have a petrol car with nearly 600 miles range. So before I get to the motorway I have enough fuel to complete the journey. As much as anything to avoid the high prices. But if I had an electric car with maybe 150 or 200 miles range on the motorway, the chances of running out is far greater.
Not sure how many EV's can be towed, I think they need to be transported
To my mind both of those organisations are failing to represent and support their (motoring members).
They tread a political path and won't challenge the "sacred cows" (ELUZ/EVs/road charging/ Fuel Duty/etc.) that the government raise to frustrate and limit our enjoyment of our vehicles.
Try telling this to old Top Gear's Quentin Wilson. He gone full-on for electric cars.
Problem is as well - this a policy that governments around the world want to push. There seems also to be a vested interest in it. All the major car manufacturers have laid down plans for electric vehicles.
At the moment, I think a lot of public are blind to the problem.

Great video Geoff, it reinforces what I was saying to a startled youngster the other day that I am going to be green by staying driving my Skoda diesel because to generate the CO2 of building an EV I would have to drive my car for more than 22 years by which time I will probably be dead and certainly not driving. I can imagine if you charge your EV if there is a surplus of solar/wind generated electric energy only on your network. In NL, this occurs at certain days in spring/summer autumn during daytime. However, most EV owners charge their vehicles at night, and drive during daytime. In NL, CO2 emissions by charging your EV are 252Gr/KWh on favourable days, and about 500Gr/KWh on other days.

BEV make a great second car for local use, but they will cost at east 50% more than your main car to buy, and lose money a lot faster.
Brand new MG4 fully electric £28k. Brand new mid spec petrol Astra, Focus or Golf £28k Where is the 50% more?

Council were surveying trees in my area, they need to cut down the tall ones so the 5g can keep the surveillance grid (internet of things) functioning reliably. The frequencies need a clear path to us so a lot of the trees are going to cop it.

We like our Kia Niro EV - it's small but drives nice and quietly, (and very very quickly) we bought it cheaply because it had high mileage, we get paid to drive it when octopus pay us to use electricity on windy days, and cheaply because of our solar panels on sunny days, and best of all, we can't be stopped from driving it if you're right about the end-game. Get them now while you can I say !!

Back when I was an Aeronautical Engineering student at uni I felt a bit embarassed that I rode a motorbike - with drag coefficient of 1.2 (worse than a brick) - so I set out to design as "slipperier" shape, which then led on to looking at engine design and fuel efficiency for the vehicle; time and time again it all came down to one simple answer - weight. This turned out to be the single most crucial element. To reduce the weight of the vehicle you need lighter components, starting with the engine... It is easily possible to make a full vehicle capable of carrying 4 adults and ample luggage which weighs less than half a ton, instead of the nearly 2 tons which we are seeing for typical family cars now. Japan tried with their Kei cars, Reliant made some really capable 3 wheelers (and light for wheelers), which not only delivered up to 70 mpg but ALSO saved the additional stresses on roads (and car parks) which we now have. We need light durable cars to address the whole issue of personal transport and the environment. EVs are a misguided distraction - not the solution. Make light vehicles which can last 40+ years

We've ended up green by totally accident, but not the virtue signalling green, we're always on a low income we've always driven old cars and kept them and fixed them, years since we had to scrap one.when we did ever get any money we put in solar panels with a grant to help (just to save money) we mend, repair, grow our own veg, upcycle, recycle, swap stuff, use free sites. And do you know what, our carbon footprint *and our bills* are the lowest they have ever been in our lives by ignoring all the virtue signalling greenwash and just living greener when it worked out as a money saver or quality of life improver. We even brew our own booze, and that feels like a tax dodge lol. Not quite the "good life", but one more step away from the rat race.

If you think about it, it's even worse than those figures state because a lot of the carbon footprint is up front in the making of the vehicle. Therefore, if you take into account those EVs that are written off long, long before they hit their carbon neutral milestone, you need to add that mileage on to the EVs that are left. Take care, Poo

Years ago I had an Opel Manta GTE.
It split a fuel line, sprayed fuel all over the hot engine and exhaust. (I had driven about 15 miles so it wasn't 'warming up')

In your example you were fine but data shows on average 300 ICE vehicles catch fire DAILY in the UK against 0.2 EV’s. Also manufacturers are moving away from lithium batteries into thing like LFP which don’t support thermal runaway, and research is going on into new battery designs all the time. All this hysteria has nothing to do with EV’s it is all to do with you being forced to buy one which by the way I do not believe will happen

A recent survey in Norway showed that ICE vehicles catch fire much more frequently than EVs.

I should also point out the difference in intensity between ICE fires & EV fires, the special equipment required to deal with them, transport them, isolate them, etc, etc.

I confess my Mk2 Astra had a couple of big fires during my ownership (only one of them my fault) but was repaired on both occasions & went on to be sold as a runner. I don't see that happening with an EV.
I can't comment on the aluminium block statement but I doubt engine blocks often get hot enough to catch fire. After all, you can weld the stuff.

They’ve been hassling us in France for about 5 years to install « Linky » meters of this type. If you are unlucky enough to have a meter in a box outside your house they just do it. I got letters and phone calls repeatedly telling me they had to have access to my property so they could install it. After menacing spurious legal action (strangely they weren’t able to come up with a legal text to support that),they then threatened to charge me if they had to come and read the meter. I reminded them that in my contrat there is already a charge calculated to cover meter reading. In any case they never physically come more than once every 2 years because they either estimate consumption based on previous figures, or they ask ME to read the meter and send the results to them. They seem to have given up, just waiting for the next episode.😂
Just tell them you do not accept their (government initiated) offer and to 'B' Off. They are only obligated to offer you a meter there is currently no legislation that requires you to accept the offer.

Roads are engineered for lgv, 7.5tons unladen to 44tons laden. My battery adds 350kg. I don't think that's a problem to the roads.
The only thing you got right is that it's 40% more energy to produce an electric car than an ice, but on uk energy mix that loss is gained back after 12000 to 15000 miles.
The new factory was announced on the local news last night. It seemed to be a great leap forward. Of course none of the environmental issues were raised. But, the biggest issue was not mentioned at all: namely that they will be too expensive for most people to own. It is about time that car ownership is enshrined as a basic right, just like a bank account. Even the most simplest tasks are dependent on personal transport. I can't think of any aspect of life where freedom of choice in a free market economy is so reduced.

The brand new cars of today are the used cars of tomorrow, so assuming we aren't locked in our pods eating bugs in 10 years time , the cars that are on the dealership forecourts today are the cars a lot of us are going to be buying in the future. Honda and Toyota do not list one regular petrol or diesel car (with the exception of the Landcruiser or Type R) on their website. So assuming that the hybrid and electric models that they have for sale right now haven't been sent to landfill or recycled into cheap Chinese junk destined to end up in landfill a few years later, due them being no longer economical to repair thanks to the exorbitant cost of battery replacement, in the not too distant future there will be no motorised personal transport for the average guy in the street.
The cost of used petrol and diesel cars will sky rocket, any old petrol or diesel car found in a field or a barn will be classed as a 'barn find' and people will be patching together rusty old pieces of junk just so people like nurses, teachers and carers can do their jobs without having to take out crippling loans or lease deals just so they can get to work.
I'm not going to be driving a crappy EV in a decades times. Not happening..You can get around this totalitarianism...

How about the land grabs, tree cutting, and flood producing cement car charge parks, and solar array and wind turbine fields totally depending on weather for our energy? Our climate doesn't support the use of 100% renewables since there are long periods in autumn and winter when there is nowhere near enough sunlight to power the nation even with deployment of panels on every bit of green space and rooftop. Not only that but we have long spells in winter during which there isn't enough wind either and since hydro isn't a backup since there aren't enough locations to flood (weirdly enough people don't like being forced out of their houses and farms to have the land flooded), we're in a tricky situation with renewable energy.
I came across a picture of a 1925 Rolls Royce Phantom the other day. True it is coach built but it looked like the serious big brother of the ZZ Top Eliminator. It was fantastic.
Various places are making it illegal to park on the pavement, London is like this already I believe so this is a huge conflict with Emergency Services access. Of course, it is a good thing, both able and disabled people need to use the pavements so the result has to be parking on only one side of the street, in the process losing an enormous amount of parking spaces.
Of course, cleaning the air in congested towns and cities is a laudable thing to do. It is very clear that something has to change, our entire relationship to car ownership has to change, it's just a simple fact that something has to give so why aren't we as a society talking about this? It is one of the largest conceptual changes we're going to have to go through and it appears to be right around the corner. Not the usual manana just around the corner we usually have to deal with, the actual next corner. This is going to be tackled with opaque and draconian legislation, seemingly by choice. All of this should be one of the biggest conversations of our time. The simple fact that it must happen would energise some of the more civically minded to do their best. C40 cities should be being sold to us wholesale in the media rather than appearing to be a conspiracy theory.

Why are they only doing this now? Because the agenda was never to get everyone switching to EVs, it was to get rid of ALL vehicles.
I completely agree, plant more trees, the giant redwood trees grew so big because they were massive carbon capture devices.
An important point is that EVs should be measured against the actual marginal fuel used in electricity generation, not the average or imaginary. The UK grid, like most grids, uses up the wind/solar that nature delivers, and then balances on gas generation. This swings between 10% and over 50% of total electricity depending on wind/sun/demand. At present EVs account for a few % of electricity demand. So if there were more/fewer EVs in the UK, the grid would simply burn more/less gas. At present EVs in the UK are all effectively gas powered.

Most people charge their EVs overnight, when there is over-capacity. Some others charge from home solar panels.

Another thing worth mentioning is that a very high proportion of this generated energy never makes it to the end consumer as a very high proportion of it is utterly wasted while it travels through the cables. Also not all of the power that goes into the batteries comes out of them. This is why electrically powered cars were abandoned shortly after their invention over 130 years ago, the entire concept is fundamentally inefficient and that principle still applies today but in many ways even more so. Indeed internal combustion engine has never been more efficient and less polluting than they are now, and there is plenty of reasons to expect them to become even less so in the future. Indeed there is no reason why they can not be designed to produce ZERO emissions if the will, capital, and incentives were even close to that being wasted on EVs.
If Co2 immissions were deemed a priority then investing in a technology that physically removes the Co2 from the exhaust would be massively more beneficial. However, as extra Co2 immissions are actually a good thing for the environment then this won't be even allowed to happen. I understand that such a technology already exists but was long since patented out of existence.
All Government and corporate institutions work a simple principle of NEVER actually solving the problem that they were set up to solve. If they can get away with it, to positively make the problem worse if indeed the problem actually existed in the first place. I won't insult your intelligence by explaining why this has been the case since the dawn of civilization itself as the reason is so clear and obvious. OK, I will insult it as if the cap fits, wear it, and if not, don't, and as a lot of people stubbornly remain ignorant of how this world actually works.

I drive an ev but I’ve never ever, ever clammed it to be green, planet saving or whatever people claim these things are. I charge the car inside my garage for free which means my commute to work and leisure around town has been free for the last 3 years and I’m able to avoid London’s daily £15 congestion charge and that’s why I got it. I’m looking at a second car I can take for camping trips and long trips which will be a Toyota pick up so no, not every EV driver thinks they’re saving the world by driving a 2,4 tonne metal suv with a battery underneath. Just saying

There seems to be a lot of misinformation being pushed at the moment, the daily Mail compared a Tesla model Y against a Kia Nero hybrid saying it has 20% more tyre wear, ignoring the fact that it has 200bhp more, also forgetting to mention most EVs create over 90% less brake dust because of regen braking. Whilst I agree some EVs are ridiculously heavy, mainly the German monstrosities with there huge 100 plus kWh batteries to make up for there embarrassing efficiency, there are plenty of sensible options that whey about as much as a typical bmw 3 series & won’t rip up the roads.
I'm surprised that the Daily Fail actually managed to mention Tesla. In the article that found it's way into my Google feed today, it mentioned that Audi Q8 eTron and Mercedes EQS dominate the SUV EV sales while not a single mention of the actual best selling EV in that segment. No Tesla advertising revnue, no mention.

The USA biomass train goes from Bootle (Near Liverpool) to Drax power station (Near Selby in Yorkshire) being pulled by a diesel locomotive nearly everyday, and often several times a day. The train must be 1/4 mile long. I suppose the ship and train in the USA is also diesel as if the machinery used in the forest.
Insiders made a fortune when Drax were awarded the Biomass grants. The share price trebbeld iirc. It also doubled since the USA started the proxy war with Russia.
Blame the DfT / Treasury - they won't support rail electrification and persist in these duel mode things which waste electricity carrying fuel and engines around when under the existing (limited) 25 kV wires and then pollute the atmosphere and passengers with high levels of NOX and carbon emissions when on un electrified track.
It's the transportation that is most ludicrous here. Burning wood that generates CO2 that grows more trees that can be burnt, etc, is potentially better than burning fossil fuels, since no carbon captured millennia ago over hundreds and thousands of years is being released. Instead, the trees are a shorter term storage medium, and if it's done right, the new trees help compensate for the carbon released. However, the transport of the fuel is a problem, and using local renewable energy from whatever source will always be more efficient and less damaging.

I was speaking to someone today who was also mentioing to me, regarding EV cars, that car insurance companies are starting to get concerned with insuring these vehicles because they can't repair them in a number of cases after they've been involved in accidents [and possibly the fires?]. Might be worth checking this out?
My friends dad had a EV van for his charity work but the insurance was crippling compared to a standard van so they only had the EV for about six months before getting shot.
Two months ago renewed the insurance on my Ev and it came to less than £400.00, so I guess they are not too worried
I have just gone electric purely due to the massive tax savings I can make as I lease it through my employer under a salary sacrifice scheme. I can also drive into ULEZ areas and charge up for work for free. Yes, madness, but would be mad not to take this option. It is good that toxic emissions are 0 in urban areas, but apart from that there is little green benefits that stack up.

@@Sp_75-76 Yes I am right, before the fuel gets in a combustion car it's already used more electric than an ev and they use cobolt to refine fuel.

About planting trees: It is not only about planting trees, but also about growing them. Just planting a tree after cutting down the previous tree on that spot will not help much. Just planting a tree and not providing water ( a practice commonly executed by our local council in the past ) will lead to small dead trees and expenses and even emissions for planting them. You will need to plant them, make sure they will survive and let them grow before converting the wood into something else than wood chips... To reduce CO2, maintain your old car if it's relatively fuel efficient or buy a Kei car...
Thanks Geoff. Keep up the fantastic work. We are all missing a trick tho. One that has been starring us in the face all along. LPG is 15% greener than petrol and can produce more power. Calor is now producing Bio LPG at a similar price to normal LPG. Its now called Futuria liquid gas. It is Calors` "Sustainable Energy Solution For Homes." Well im gunna put it in my 35yr old motorhome. Great argument for keeping our beloved combustion engines as the carbon to make them has already been spent.

I remember when 4-Star Petrol was abolished and there was a bloke at the car boot selling plastic filling nozzles with a small lead block in them. Can't wait until I see the bloke selling small diesel generators that you stick in the boot to extend the range of your EV. Legally driving on Red Diesel 🤔... simply unplug it for the MOT.
