Pay per mile is just ridiculous. How many taxes do we pay on top of our taxed money. For a car, taxed income at source, VAT tax 20% on the purchase, road fun licence tax, fuel duty tax. One item, four taxes. Now that's not enough, now a super tax per mile, which can obviously be tiered, and raised at will. Why do we pay tax on tax on tax when the government is wasteful and irresponsible with the money? No accountability is the reason they don't care if they waste it. Time to change what we allow them to get away with.

This one didn't appear in my 'watch' list. I found it by chance.
I read that and was really angry . if its not true then the RAC should take legal action because I was thinking about changing my breakdown cover over this news article.
We already do pay per mile, it’s on the tax that you pay for fuel every time you fill your tank up.
You pay per mile by the amount of miles the gas you just paid for and put in your tank will get you. The Tax is just free money for the government
Like no how it's enforced 🤔🤔 reg plate 🤔 well soon sorted bit duck tape
Perhaps if we went back to just funding and caring about our own citizens, we wouldent need to be charged so much tax. But unfortunately this speck of a country goverment is doing its best to financially cripple all us working people to pay for the rest of the worlds problems and and their people to come here and live a free life, and offing the pensioners this winter, to keep them warm in hotels instead of ensuring thoes who helped build this country stay warm, and yet we're still hated on the global forum!
I must admit, I was very surprised by the article saying that the RAC backed 'Pay per mile' as they are normally on the side of the motorist. The article you refer to here is far more what I'm used to from the RAC..
The RAC are not the Royal Automobile Club as it was known. It’s a sly use of name, look it up.
Just wait for the Budget and all will be revealed.
Inaccurate media report…….well I never.
That was close, I was about to change to the AA this weekend!
Will Commercial vehicles delivering food, medicines etc be exempt or will the inflationary costs be passed on the the consumer too?
Wow lazy reporting who would have guessed lol. Keep it coming Geoff
The LEZ cameras should be reconfigured to send bills to EV owners so they can pay their fair share of taxes
Are you talking about the RAC or the Royal Automobile Club? As I believe they are no longer the same thing - one is the commercial company, the other is where it all started but they sold off / spun off the commercial arm some years ago.
I did think this as I said it..!
Can anyone answer does pay by mile include hybrid cars ?
nice!! At least you can get a response, I'm finding this Home Office/Govt to be very hard to get an answer, so getting the RAC to clarify was good but other "youtubers" may still be repeating your vid so this could still effect joe public into thinking/accepting the RAC are backing it
So the RAC can support what they want. Who are they anyway?
Is coming I am wondering whats next the boling everyone and no one is caring accept we hare watching you Geoff
I think that Reeves sent a press release to the telegraph who then copied and pasted it into the paper.
Good point though….. when pay per mile comes in for everyone, (which it will) do you get charged when you’re being towed?
Saw you on UK Column 👍👍
so does that mean no more advance excise duty payment ?
Isn't something like 67p the full duty/tax part of the price? Not checked for a while but that's what it was pre CV..
Used to work in the motor trade - Rent A C**t they were known as.... Looks about right... Broke down in mid Wales, came out messed up putting MY foam in the tyre and then left me to it!
I was once a "Priority" recovery for the RAC as a result I was only sat on the Hard Shoulder of the M49 for 3 1/2 hours🤬
Simon Williams from the RAC said the fuel duty freeze should be scrapped ( or the government had no option to impose it) because the retailers were not passing on the freeze in fuel duty. If it is reimposed the duty escalator that is it will just be added to the current cost by retailers so they still make their margin which they should because there is no point in supplying if you do not make some profit.
I am not in favour I should point out, seems that the RAC are in favour of the catastrophe that EVs will be.
Thank you
Well done Geoff !! One question why did it take the RAC a long time to correct the article in the paper ?? It seems a fishing article by the government 😮😮😮😮🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴✝️✝️👍
Sweeping statement, I can see a winter of discontent leading to the demise of the current administration of this country by the Labour Party.
Evening Geoff. I see tonight 10 September 2024 that oil is under 70 dollars a barrel. So why are petrol prices so high - a government tax grab on motorists perhaps? And as oil prices are linked to gas prices - why is Englands gas prices so high? More Labour tax grabs perhaps?
Just a note geoff
A few years ago it was announced and confirmed now that from 2025 most evs on the road will be paying £190 road tax see current details gov website
Electric and low emission cars registered on or after 1 April 2025
You will need to pay the lowest first year rate of vehicle tax (which applies to vehicles with CO2 emissions 1 to 50g/km). From the second tax payment onwards, these vehicles will pay the standard rate. This is £190 for 2024 but is subject to change for 2025.
Electric and low emission cars registered between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2025
You will pay the standard rate. This is £190 for 2024 but is subject to change for 2025.
Electric and low emission cars registered between 1 March 2001 and 31 March 2017
These vehicles will move to the first band that has a VED value. This is £20 for 2024 but is subject to change for 2025.
Road tax doesnt exist
I've just made-up a new headline "In order to avoid pay-per-mile you have to prove that you've despatched a WFP receiving OAP . . . with extreme prejudice . . . of course" . . . oh, wait a minute, that's almost true . . setting one group against another.
I think there's a problem with the word in. Taxation on drivers. It should say taxation on vehicles. Drivers are tax separately on their earnings.
Rachel reeves needs to be sacked
We pay enough simple ❤
Great vid Geoff, just what I needed with my cuppa and fag, having a break from mundane household chores, phonecalls, emails, etc etc rains stopped but still a sky clad in thick cloud!
This is good because had you not highlighted the starting point.
How about the amount they receive via fuel usage by vehicles stationary in the huge amount of traffic jams everyday. Still paying but not moving a fraction let alone, milles.
There is no "Black Hole" left from the previous Government at all.
The 22 Billion is the forecast figure to cover the benefits cost of the 1.7 million Non-British in the country claiming benefits.
I think people, all of us even foreigners who living in the UK we should do something, protests or something brake few windows. Nothing will change with a peaceful approach. The government is testing the waters...
My understanding of vat is you can only charge it if your service, product etc is available elsewhere. If you wre rhe only person or company that can provide it you cannot charge vat. I hope there is someone out there who can clarify and correct me please
so did simon williams of the RAC not say it then that he backed the pay per mile? yes or no?
Pay per mile is just ridiculous. How many taxes do we pay on top of our taxed money. For a car, taxed income at source, VAT tax 20% on the purchase, road fun licence tax, fuel duty tax. One item, four taxes. Now that's not enough, now a super tax per mile, which can obviously be tiered, and raised at will. Why do we pay tax on tax on tax when the government is wasteful and irresponsible with the money? No accountability is the reason they don't care if they waste it. Time to change what we allow them to get away with.
You're compelled to buy car insurance which has an insurance premium tax of 20% added to it
Pay per mile is not ridiculous at all. You already pay it via fuel duty. A system that charges people according to how much they actually drive is obviously fairer and probably cheaper for a lot of people.
Owned a Saab aero! Flipping awesome car
In the RAC's "rebuttal" they use the word "additional". I would question that.
