Very nice job. I agree with you with carpet on the inside. It protects the rifles. I like the idea of the magnets not for the handguns but more for magazines. Also why not just drill a small hole in the shelf so the rifle can sit nice.
That’s freaking awesome! Cool thing is if someone broke in to your house. Really wouldn’t think it was a gun cabinet. Hiding in plain site. That stain really made it look good too.
Not much point in a plywood cabinet that's naked together. A strong kick would open it right up. Cabinets like this are to keep kids and house guests honest, not prevent theft.
If someone wanted to build this with a reinforced metal interior, how would you go about that? Obviously you would have to make it a little larger, but what sort of metal would you use (obviously nothing corrugated). Thinking about making this but since I live in an apartment complex I think I'd much rather have it up armored, and a safe is out of the question due to its weight.
I built mine like this but added a couple layers metal grid fencing stuff (corrugated would be even stronger, but heavier) on the inside and sandwiched it between the outer 3/4" wood and an interior 1/4" piece, to which I added felt lining. Beefed it up a bit if someone tries to take a saw to it.
Nice job, most people want their 2000$ gun safe that sits in thier living room to impress their friends with half a dozen low end guns in side. I'd much rather have a plywood gun cabinet with 2000$ more worth of guns inside.
The bad part of it is, I can't even afford a sheet of plywood, not because I'm broke but if I have an extra 50$ to buy a sheet I would end up buying ammo. LoL
Hello, I have the measurements from your video, however it doesn’t show the rack dimensions where the barrels go. I’m trying to figure the spacing from center to center of each slot as well as the center of the end slots to the cabinet wall. I lot of woodworkers are telling me to keep the slots at least 3.5” center to center and center of end slots at least 3” center to cabinet wall. I’ve sent you an email hope you got it and can give some more information. I do hav e scope on one gun and two are bolt actions if that helps. Thanks Maine Guide
Heck of a lot nicer than the cheap metal gun cabinets at the big box stores. Looks amazing!
Best part it only cost me $65 total, appreciate the comment
Nice....i.made one that's very similar to this one.
Man you just saved me a thousand dollars. Thank you for posting.
I've been trying to come up with a design for my own gun cabinet, and I keep coming back and referencing this video. Thanks!

Perfect idea! Wanting to do something like this but add a pistol wall. Thanks!
Make one you will love it
Awesome. I made me one awhile back .
That's awesome, I enjoyed it
@@LifeLessOrdinary yours looks much better than mine. Lol i just needed some whare to put my guns.
Funny part was i was thinking about doing a video on it this morning. And then your video came out .
Hahahaha do it, I'm sure it would be awesome
I hear ya that's what my problem was and why I made it
Inspired to make my own now. Thank!
That’s awesome good luck with it
Looking good! I made something similar for my air guns. Also behind lock because of kids.
Nice job crafting the gun cabinet! It looks great!
Thanks Chip
Nice work sir
Thank you
Hey man. This looks great. Definitely going to try and build one myself. If I can frame houses Im sure I can do this lol.
If you can frame a house this would be no problem. Good luck with it, let me know how it comes out.
@@LifeLessOrdinary i sure will man.
Nice, I am going to make the same gun shelf🤙🏻
Thanks for that comment
Great job! I'd use a beefier locking mechanism though.
Not much point in a plywood cabinet that's naked together. A strong kick would open it right up. Cabinets like this are to keep kids and house guests honest, not prevent theft.
Correct and that’s why I made this, to keep my little kids out of it. 👍
Simple and functional. 👍
Very cool.
Hey cuz boat looks amazing
This is a great DIY 👍👍
Thank you so much joy

It works great 👍 you should do it
@@LifeLessOrdinary I will I need a gun cabinet at my fiance's house
My guns are just leaning in a corner

Wow. Well done. I’m going to make my own now. What wood is this pls. Pls reply well done
3/4” oak plywood, have fun hope the video helps
@@LifeLessOrdinary is it expensive wood ?
Hmmmm I think I paid about $50 for it at Lowe’s
Great job. I just build my own as well. Would we need Eva-dry gun dehumidifier for the wooden cabinet or is that pushing it?
I don’t do anything with mine and it seems just fine so I’m sure it’s up to each person.
What's the size of the cut outs where the rifles lay into? Nice cabinet..
So, based on the video it actually took you two pieces of the plywood? And I’m trying to see how much I could take off at the store to fit in the car
I’m trying to remember, I think I was only short on the shelf I put in
You should start selling them be cheaper then a store and people who live in apartments and what not who ain’t got space to build it can buy them
Man nice job , how about making another and put it up for sale
I wish I had the free time, I appreciate the comment
Turned out great 👍
What were the exact dimensions? I would like to know so I can scale it up 2x awesome cabinet thanks for the info and video
At the very beginning he shows the dimensions on paper.
How much did this total set you back? This is fantastic what a steal it was to do-it-yourself
Great question it’s been a while it was maybe 50 bucks. Between the wood and the lock mechanism and the hinges
@@LifeLessOrdinary thank you!
I like it I need one about 3 times as big
Thanks John
@@LifeLessOrdinary How did you mount the hinge? And which hinge did you use?
Sorry I didn’t see your comment until today. I just used a simple square hinge three of them mounted on the inside.
Can you please share the dimensions in the description please? This is very nice work!
I don’t have the sheet of paper anymore but if you look at the video right after the intro you can screen shot the dimensions
Keeps them away from the kids. Good job.
Thanks Tony safety first brother
Very good project. 👍 I need to make one. I'd like to make one that can hold our bows too, but that might be too big.
Thanks I wanted to make one bigger but the wife needs her space lol
@@LifeLessOrdinary of course ✌️
Thanks man!!!
How did you install the door hinges. Any video footage?
No I’m sorry I don’t have video of that, they are just basic small metal hinges
Was this done with a single sheet of plywood?
If I remember correctly I think the shelf was from a scrap piece
BaMmm at 3:05 had me 🤣

Is it fireproof?
Just kidding lol, this is great! Been racking my brain on how to put together a kid-proof Gun locker... I forgot that wood existed...
Lol, yeah been great to keep them away from the kids
im just getting into woodworking and diy building. i was hoping to clarify: you did this whole thing with just 1 sheet of 4'x8'?
i just read the description a bit late 😅 so im assuming yes. this is great! thanks
Will these measurements work for thinner plywood?
Yeah that wouldn’t be a big deal 👍
@@LifeLessOrdinary thanks this helped alot!
built this with one single sheet of plywood ?
No either the shelf or the bottom was a scrap piece
What did you use as a hinge?
I just used basic door hinges
Your talented
Thank you so much
Did you ever put anything on The door for your hand guns? If so how?
I never got around to adding that lol.
Looks like the door hinges are on the outside. I would move them to the inside. A lock does no good if you can remove the hinges easily
They are on the inside now, I changed it about a month after I made it 👍
Really nice
Gun laws are changing in my state. Anyone know if such a cabinet would pass muster of safe storage laws in general and MI in particular?
I’m in Texas let me know what information you find on those states 👍🏼
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Cool case...im doing same following you... only not as deep to hide better in closet... thanks brother
Good luck with it 👍
What wood did you use
Please reply I am trying to make one tomorrow
4x8 sheet of oak I got from Lowe’s 3/4”
Dude that looked nice, You could probably make and sell those for a little extra income.
Thanks bud I've been super busy making rustic burnt wood flags.
Same board today is 138..😢
Starnge question but can i have your exact measurements. Lol
I’m really sorry I can’t find my original drawing of it.
how many people have a wood working shop at home though?
You don’t have to have a wood shop to be able to build stuff
You can use woodprix instructions to build it in the cheapest way.
Nice, I've been thinking about doing this vs $700 to $2,000 safe:) I don't want those cheap metal cabinets for $200
That was exactly why I made mine lol
I checked a lot of handbooks with woodworking plans. Instructions from woodprix are the best I think.
He didnt sand anything... my autism is getting the better of me
Not going to bore anybody with the sanding part. 🤣 I didn’t use a dropcloth either 🤫
Just go to woodprix if you want to know how to do it yourself.
I've heard good feedback about the Woodglut plans.
I did it with Woodprix.
What type of hinges did you use ?
Just picked up some basic ones from my local ace I used three
Ok thanks
I made it mostly to be safe for my kids so basic hinges will work no problem. 👍
Thanks man!!!
