Yepp, last time I was bored a burning man came out from my trash can and he was playin trumpet. Happens often around here, I guess I have to reduce my dosage. :D
This is probably one of the most favorite songs in my entire life. The music itself is great, cheerful, catching, and just envokes the feeling of joy in me :D I just love how her music is always creative like this.
Just randomly remembered this song! I was jamming to it all throughout quarantine, lol! I had discovered this woman in late 2018-2019 after listening to one of my favorite rock bands. Here I am again in 2024. I listened to this song ALL THROUGHOUT quarantine, and now I'm back. Such an underrated artist!
Regina was literally born one day after I was. She is a beautiful lady as are many girls from Russia, with high class and elegance, and a dignified sense of humor. She is a distinct talent, and I think she deserves to be better known than she is!
2013 was a pretty bad year for me, I was on sick leave and felt depressed and things didn't go too well in any way. Then in July I went to a festival for one day, checked the program in advance to be a bit updated on the artists playing that day. That's how I discovered Regina. @@qook1543 Wow a reply to a comment I made almost 9 years ago! Well I'm even into my 53rd year, but I'm doing fine. Healthy enough (that's the best you can do at my age) and I got a job I enjoy. So I'm doing allright despite the current unrest in the world. It's not all thanks to Regina Spektor that I got out of my situation back then, but she definitely had a role to play. And I do listen to her music every now and then. Thank you for asking!
It is true. For example, Florence don't sing well, doesn't have such voice and vocal skills. She is a bit overrated. Regina has enormous skills and likes to play with it.
This is the kind of music videos I want to see: Clever, Fun, Upbeat, Creative, Aweesome, and of course real Quality music =) It totally lightens your day. Oh, and Regina Spektor is incredible!
I kind of see this song about pleading her sense of childhood and youth not to "leave" - hence why she's doing all the crazy, kind of childish things in the video. The old man at the end represents adulthood and responsibilities suppressing the playfulness and random joys of being a kid.
I thought it was about friendship and how this extremely wealthy person who can watch amazing things from her posh apartment is sad because she's so utterly cut off from society. The old man represented her one chance at making a connection, making his rejection that much more heart breaking. Not saying I'm right. I just hadn't considered your theory which I like and is much more fun.
CHP This is interesting, because the thing about "Ghost of Christmas past" could link with the Scrooge/wealthy thing - whereas I was imagining "Christmas past" to be a nostalgic reference to childhood Christmases. So it'd fit both interpretations! This is what I love about lots of Regina's songs, they're so open to interpretation.
This has been on my mind for a while, and I was expecting someone to say it before me, but since no one has...I think i figured out the video. It's her in a hotel room/apartment trying to write a song, but she can't seem to squeeze out anything out of her brain. So she ends up procrastinating with all these weird things, with the excuse of them hopefully giving her inspiration. What you think?
+Travis Waluyo I don't know about the video, but that doesn't line up with the lyrics at all. www.streetdirectory.com/lyricadvisor/song/wlwffw/ne_me_quitte_pas/ The first paragraph talks about Bowery, a street in NYC known for being dangerous/homeless. It ends by saying "if you are a deity please don't go" which I think means that people there are looking for a deity/hope. The second paragraph talks about Lexington, a street in NYC known for older people. It ends by saying "if you are the ghost of Christmas place wont you stay the night". This is in reference to them wanting to keep their youth. I'm not sure about the Bronx paragraph, but I think that she's saying that the children there want a friend. The last one is about her missing NYC because she was on vacation to paris maybe.
I think one of the best thing about Regina Spektor's work is that she doesn't only appeal to the ears, her music videos are always so creative and interesting to watch, as well as being able to look at her beautiful face :)

Right!
I am surprised that this is nobody’s quarantine song. It’s mine.

#1 Quarantine Song Of All Time.
It's 4:20
When Regina Spektor sets a trashcan on fire she's an artist, when I do it I'm a pyromaniac and gets arrested.
best COMMENT of 2015.
+Dakota Weaver you can also be a singer ;)
Jack Black did that xD
