It's great seeing an enthusiastic female hunter who's not wearing makeup and pink camo to hunt, like some of the other UA-camrs. You're the real deal!! Great filming as well!

Great video and emotion. I've been there. Learn from it and get better for the next time. Most importantly, don't get discouraged. All serious bow hunters will find themselves not ready for a buck, missing a deer, getting busted, and landing a bad shot if they hunt long enough. I encourage you to ALWAYS be standing with bow in hand and release attached the last 30-45 minutes of a night hunt. I can't tell you the number of times I had a buck under me instantly at the end of a night hunt. The last hour or so right before dark/closing is prime time. Always be ready for anything to happen!

I would name that buck Heartbreaker, that's what he is! Sorry you couldn't get a shot at him but thanks for sharing your experience along with the map at the end. Hope you enjoy the rest of the season even if you can't get that big buck. You never know what else you might see out there or what fun experiences you might have. It was an amazing thing just to see that buck and be that close to him. I haven't had a shot at anything yet, not even a doe or yearling buck, much less a giant buck. Good luck!

Damn I feel for you! I'm still new to bow hunting and hunting in general. This is only my second year, so I haven't had a chance at a buck yet, but I did have a chance at a doe and it would have been my first deer so I was so excited. I didn't see her until it was to late, she was right under me, I mean with 5 yards off the tree I was in. I didn't want to spook her so I didn't move and she disappeared into the timber. I didn't know if she had a buck on her heels so I grabbed my bow. To my surprise she came back out but she winded me and booked it. It sucked and I still have my mind on that hopefully this year I can get something. You've learned from this so keep trying and as soon as you get him you'll cry again because you already have an attachment to him and I can't wait to see the day you get him!

They don't get big by being stupid. That buck zeroed you like a pro, smart deer. You just relearned the most valuable lesson in hunting, always have your bow or gun ready. You got busted and honestly I remember those intense stare downs with those big boys and my heart bouncing off my chin while powerless to move and time standing still more years later than shooting a big one. Don't cry about it, enjoy it. Some people hunt their whole lives and don't get to experience that. You got the skills and patience so don't worry, there will be plenty more stare downs where a big one outsmarts you and gets away and than some that don't. That is what makes it fun. Great video, I enjoy these more than a kill shot. I could feel that bucks stare through that branch in camera angle lol. Busted!!

I just killed an old twelve point I've been after for years. Nobody in this area even had him on camera during the day. A combination of hot does and a 🌽 pile were his undoing. Ten minutes later it would've been too dark to shoot. You're correct they don't get old being stupid.

Hah thanx for this. Wifey had the SAME thing happen to her this past weekend with a 10pt (roughly 175-190lb or so) walk right up from behind her about 25 feet. Right as she was getting ready to lung it, she clipped the blind window with her open jacket as she tried to turn around and it bolted like a rocket. She spooked it good and she started cryin like a baby. We dont expect to see it again, ever lol. They dont get that big by being predictable, bold, or dumb. He knows not to ever come back now. I sent her this and she said "see im not the only one that cries!". lol I think you'll see this one again, it was just lightly startled. It will be back for sure.

Oh my god I feel your pain. I went through the exact same thing last weekend. It was brutal. Agonizing. I’m still in a state of depression and mourning. Biggest buck I’ve ever seen on hoof. Came in from a direction I wasn’t expecting. I got excited and hit a branch above while grabbing my bow off the hook and he stopped dead in his tracks then bolted. Never got a shot. Name him “Second Chance” because lets hope you get one! Me and you both lol! Thanks for keeping it real.

@@robb5706 Doing what? Have a successful hunt? Or produce an enjoyable, quality video? Or both? Both can be achieved. We see that time and again on other channels; Chris' channel and on Kaitlyn's too. Then again, as we have here, a situation where trying to fulfill one results in the other being a failure. So, the question is: "Just what is your primary objective for an outing?" If it's to have a successful hunt, then focus on that and forget the other. If it's to make that great video, then focusing on that objective can seriously, negatively affect the other, the hunt. The hunt becomes pointless. Sometimes you can't have it all; something we all too often forget.
That said, I hope Kaitlyn gets the opportunity to take her deer with or without the quality video to show it.

It just seems to happen that way sometimes. I had a giant 10 pointer at 15 yards and went to draw back on him and the arrow comes off the string. I caught the arrow before it hit the ground. I was having a hard time resetting the arrow on the string because I was shaking so bad. He looked up and saw me fumbling with my arrow and took off. He ran about 80 yards and started blowing at me. He spooked pretty bad. Your deer wasn’t too spooked. He knew something was wrong but didn’t know what it was. You’ll get another chance at that deer if you hunt him hard. I’ve been bow hunting for about 35 years and I’ve seen a ton of deer. That deer will be back I promise. Good luck.

Hello Kaitlyn, hope the season is picking up for you. I recently came across your site and must say your site is very enjoyable for several reasons. One is that you do not do all of that cutting and pasting of B footage into your A footage. Thank you. It is nice to see someone putting together hunts that are genuine and not full of hunt spoilers. They are the worst! If I may, I do have few suggestions for you. For starters,, buy yourself a HECS outfit, maybe two. The deer are sporting you, even when you think they are not. They see your aurora that surrounds your body due to the electro output of your muscle movement. Second, I think you should trade in the tree saddle for a regular lock-on and a lite weight climbing stand. I would love to see you start tagging some of those bigger bucks. That's for sharing your hunts.

Having hunts that are “unsuccessful” Make it that much sweeter when you do succeed. I just found your channel today and love it. So much better to watch someone showing all the struggles and not just the day you get a big one on the ground. I think new hunters have a false sense of deer hunting being easy from all the videos of hunters posting one hunt of walking to a tree and killing a big deer.

The little spray bottle for wind direction is ok, but try this and you will never go back. Pick a piece of cotton and tear off the smallest piece that you can and hold it up and turn it loose. You will instantly see wind direction but also as far away as you can see the cotton. Wind direction at your tree stand is great but what is it doing 10 to 20 yards away? You will be amazed at what you see.

Great video, much better than mine ever are. So you did everything right, clearly…. Right spot right time. Perfect set up. He just got by you thats all. Its happen to every hunter many times. Wrong side of our tree is their specialty. Looked me like he wasn’t spooked bad at all and will without doubt will still be in the area. Use them skills that put you there in the first place (skills we all want BTW)and you’ll have another chance. I would bet, based on your video and deer travel you showed us that he has that scrape set up so he can cross the main deer trails on his way to hit that scrape and scent check them to see what deer are in the area, bucks and does alike. I would bet he will just swing a little wider down wind of the area and maybe show up a little closer to dark to that specific spot but still come back. You will figure out your next move. Good luck keep us posted and keep making awesome videos.

I was googling a tree in front of me and I heard a trotting clipity clop. He stopped at 10 yards under me while I was reaching for my bow. Totally surprised me. He was searching for does. You have a good strategy set up. You can't do any better than what you are doing. Sometimes it feels like the animals have a sixth sense and can tell where you are looking and they just show up in the most unexpected places. That's hunting. It is always exciting. The good ones always seem to show up where you least expect them to and usually where getting a shot off is next to impossible. That's one of the reasons I keep going. If it was easy I doubt I would still be hunting them. It's all about the challenge.

That setup with the yellow pin looks like the place to get a shot. The water should give you a safe place to blow your sent and try to stay low on the hill so the thermals don't get you! Good luck and great video.

You should try a spray called nose jammer. Because when the wind changes you will be happy to no that the deer will never smell you.

What you filmed with that big deer was amazing! I wont even attempt video on a deer I plan to shoot. Its all I have just to not get busted. Girl, you have skill, determination, and grit. So you cried a bit. How was that adrenaline dump? Keep at it! Great video!

Those big bucks always have luck on their side. You name it and I’ve had it go wrong for me over the years! You just have to keep at it and enjoy the ride along the way. Good luck hope you kill a monster!!!!

You got that right. My personal favorite was as a kid the first big one I had a shot at my deer grunt on string around neck rolled over drawn bow string shooting at slight angle around tree. I pictured my family and friends cheering me as I showed my huge buck later that night as I released the arrow. Than my neck got burned, the arrow shot into the sky never to be found and the deer grunt flew at buck almost hitting him. He looked at me almost laughing and walked away while I stood there self defeated. Now decades later I pass bucks like him yearly with a smile, he was a moderate 8, and still get surprised by how smart those big ones can be. Bow hunting is something else, love it!

From looking at that map I feel he may be bedding in and coming out of those cattails and walking down through or along the willows you talked about and then cutting in and hooking back towards the field. I've never had boots on the ground there so do not really know the lay of the land but that is my initial gut feeling from looking at that map. All a big buck needs is a muskrat house to lie on out in a swamp and he is pretty much untoucable out there.
Definitely a high racked monster so good luck on trying to zero in on him.
