As a musician, singing and playing a song are usually the easy parts. The hard part, and where many fail, is capturing the heart and essence of the song. You did it. And, I think Joni would be proud.
Wow, this is THE MOST beautiful and heartfelt version of this song that I have ever heard. Just a man and his guitar - nothing else needed: perfection. Thank you so much! From a fan in Australia :-)
This song written by Joni Mitchell and made famous by Judy Collins covering it in 1968 was a huge hit and success for Judy Collins. I usually don't like to listen to most people covering such a famous song (and prefer lesson known songs when people cover them) but you have really done a great, great job with this song. I mean it's been covered by so many people that after awhile you don't want to hear it covered anymore I guess is the problem. But.....I thought, well just go ahead and listen to your cover and I am glad I did. Your voice is very good and so is your guitar accompaniment. A + for you on this song.
Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud's illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and ferries wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud, To say "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends they're acting strange They shake their heads, they say I've changed Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day. I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all I've looked at life from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all
I just came across this rendition from You Tube suggested videos. I've listened to many versions of it over the years, Joni's hundreds of times. This VONCKEN version, the singing and playing are for sure beautiful, however the lyric changes are distracting in a way. When he sang ferries wheels instead of Ferris wheels, I thought it was very strange. Even stranger is when someone posts the wrong lyrics, so I googled the lyrics and read along as he sang. I just think when a song is written so beautifully the correct words are very important.
Oh give him a break! Americans know what Ferris wheels are because we have tons of them. He is not an American is he? Do they even have them where he lives? Honest mistake.
I often ask myself how the heck does one write lyrics like this. Just a alchemy of words that turns a song to pure gold. Greetings from Italy. Rome december 2019. Ps. Great rendition.

Thank you for the nice feeling I get from listening. When Joni wrote this song as a 21yo girl, they told her she would need to mature into it to encompass it's true meaning.. This song was written for a much older person.. Joni proved the remark to be spot on by performing her latest version post 60+ yo.. The depth she was able to convey from a different point in life blew us all away..
Wow! Very nice interpretation of this timeless song! Your warm, clear voice lent itself exceptionally well to the subtlely needed to do this song well. Best of luck with your career.
Bravisimo! Such a clear voice and hit every note perfectly! And nice guitar too. You should be making albums of your own. I better check, maybe you have 🤭 Just keep singin, you‘re a natural talent, lovin it!
I was blown away by your cover of this classic and one my favorite songs. I love when you added an extra I really don't know life at all at the end. The song was performed with such emotion. It grabs and captures the attention of the audience even more. I can't stop listening to it. Phenomenal!
I have commented before. This is the most beautiful, classiest rendition of this song. Beautiful guitar, beautiful man and voice. Just wonderful, thank u!
I love the Joni Mitchell version, and I never thought I could love another, version, especially from a male voice. Great job. Fantastic voice and guitar. Did you use a particular tuning on your guitar?
This cover would deserve a LOT more views. It’s one of the best renditions of this song I’ve ever heard. Very clear harmonies and singing. Every note, every chord, every word are just put in the right way.
In the year since first hearing your version, and hearing many other good ones since then, this still ties with one other for my favorite cover. Your voice and interpretation are wonderful. If you happen to see my posting, or if someone else who's really skilled with guitar and knows for sure...I'd sure appreciate knowing the exact non-capo cord sequence that you use, along with the finger patterns. Our voice range is very similar, and I think this key would be great for me. I'd love to work on this and see how I do. Thanks! 🙂
I find myself too strictly in what I've wrote you last about your rendition....and I regret this. I think...I should to say to you that you performed this song in a real wonderful and beautiful way. From my point of view your perception recalls me the way of that other performer from the early years seventy....But it isn't a copy of it..no way...You have your own timbre and priorities...But maybe it is the intonation and frasering of the lyrics.... I don't know exactly.
I have just listened to SEAL's cover of 'Both Sides Now'. He sang beautifully. But somehow I feel that anguish of a soul in purgatory. And then I come up with this rendering by VONCKEN. A true performance from heaven. Moving but appeasing. Thank you so much
Brilliant cover. Firstly, it is generally surprising to hear this song in a male performance. Secondly, you managed to do it not in pop music (in the bad sense of pop music). You did not flaunt, you were in the song. I hope your singing will hear as many people as possible
As a musician, singing and playing a song are usually the easy parts. The hard part, and where many fail, is capturing the heart and essence of the song. You did it. And, I think Joni would be proud.
Wow!
Excellent treatment of one of the most beautiful lyrics ever composed; you do the song justice very well!
Same exact thoughts. I wanna hear it from a man's POV.
Wow, this is THE MOST beautiful and heartfelt version of this song that I have ever heard. Just a man and his guitar - nothing else needed: perfection. Thank you so much! From a fan in Australia :-)
There must be hundreds of recorded covers of this song. Out of the dozens of versions I have heard, this one sure stands out. Very well done.
I agree with you. Many covers and this is great done.

Nicely done! Thank you

Nope nope, listen to Keiko necesario
Me to self: A dude singing that song, I dunno ...
Me to self a minute later: Motherfucker this is awesome.
Same here....lol
even sounds better than the original!!!
I agree.
Ditto dude ditto
Lili Ventura: that’s absurd! I like this version a lot, but Joni will always be incomparable.

Anyone who sings like this has to know love and life. Beautiful..!

But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow

Ps. Great rendition.
And your comment is alchemy as well!!
@@elenasony Thankyou.
This is an incredible arrangement ... beautiful, simple and yet complex with emotion. Thanks so much for sharing this. Truly amazing.
It recalls me Don McLean. Beautiful version.

Amen
Honestly don't think I'd ever heard a man sing this one before. Very nice!
Neil Diamond did
Leonard Nimoy (aka Spock) covered this song in a late 60's album he released.
Seal at Joni's 75th birthday. By far the best rendition.
Though I would have liked to hear the typical Joni tuning for this song, I LOVE this rendition, the voice, the timing is awesome., the interpretation is really beautiful.,
Paul young sang it as a duet
Good lord what a fantastic tribute to that song! Great Phrasing!
This is just incredible. Your timbre is mind blowing!
It’s rare to hear perfection from an artist.

"...And if you care, don't let them know. Don't give yourself away." That line hits deep every single time.
It's been quite a while since I was moved to unstoppable tears. Thank you for taking me there.
Great song choice, great voice and GREAT interpretation. Really love how you delay a bit on the down note. Just great!!
Lovely! As with the original, your rendition has left me speechless.
Just beautiful. Arrangement, tempo, and your amazing voice. I’ve allowed my new guitar to gather dust in fear- you have burst that bubble. Forever in gratitude to you and your rendition. Magic 🙏🏼❤️
Absolutely beautiful cover. Amazing talent.
Voncken has a voice like velvet, doesn't he?
More like soft flannel?
Brought me to tears. Wonderful cover of a great song. Thank you for sharing.

Ok who was brought back here by Joni Mitchell’s Grammy performance? LOVE THIS COVER!!!
Yeah, but where is he now? Can‘t find any new videos from him . . . hope he‘s okay
I didn't need the grammys to care about this song.

It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life
I really don't know life... at all
Excellent cover. any way we can listen to this on spotify :)
Oh myyyy, oh my! The heartfelt rendition was amazing. The voice, feeling and the version was definitely one of the bestssss. Loved it. ❤️😀💐👍
Beautiful job. Your phrasing, tone and emotion are just right. 💖
Wonderful version! Love it more than Joni's. Saw Seals version, impressive, but this is so touching! Thanx! wkr. from Germany / Bonn. Lothar as ELPI
Came upon this by accident, and thankful that I did!! fantastic. (in my favs now)
What a very beautiful gift of voice you have, Beautiful!
When Joni wrote this song as a 21yo girl, they told her she would need to mature into it to encompass it's true meaning.. This song was written for a much older person.. Joni proved the remark to be spot on by performing her latest version post 60+ yo.. The depth she was able to convey from a different point in life blew us all away..
please consider an amazing song: Lush Life.. it is from the 1920's
I better check, maybe you have 🤭 Just keep singin, you‘re a natural talent, lovin it!

...wooww...its so flowing like water...but very elegant..👍🍂🏞
Mee eens!
I was blown away by your cover of this classic and one my favorite songs. I love when you added an extra I really don't know life at all at the end. The song was performed with such emotion. It grabs and captures the attention of the audience even more. I can't stop listening to it. Phenomenal!
This almost makes me cry. The emotion, the perfect beauty of your voice just captures this beautiful song so well. Thank you!!
Tovah Brinton me too
I cried
A Lovely and Heartfelt cover of a timeless song. Absolutely beautiful. Talented guitarist as well. Thank you!
I've heard Joni play this, so many times, and enjoyed it. This one gave me the "feels", for some reason. Tears in my eyes, still.
Pretty obvious that is standard tuning. The chords are standard, with little nuances added here and there.
Any sheet music?
Very nice indeed, excellent performance and rendition......a classic song (when shall we hear their like again?)
Even Joni Mitchell didn't made me cry so much on these verses. Amazing feeling in your perfect voice.
Those lyrics are truly something…Especially when sung by a great artist
Nice song.I love the lyrics andre you sing it well.Beautiful voice and beautifully played.I like it andre I subscribe.
What an absolute beautiful song. What a voice, gorgeous guitar! Thank u!

Wow. I love how you made this song completely your own. I'm just sorry it took me so long to find this channel!
So beautiful. Shed a couple of tears. This version made me think a lot about life and love.
You sing wonderfully.
Wow! I’m amazed. You touched my heart. Awesome rendition. ♥️
Very Very nicely done, bravo
Why have I only just heard this ???
What a beautiful version 🙏🏻
One more of your interpretations that hit home for me.
Music is a language that you really speak the way I understand.
Thank you for your art.
Man, you really got talent, that's for sure!
I like the way he puts so much emotion ..for me he's the best.

meaning of the lyric come into my heart straightly. beautiful, thank you.
Second time I came across this video and second time I am mesmerized at the passion and beauty of this version.
WOW ❤️❤️❤️ Became your fan the second you sang the first note!!! Love your guitar skills also!
New fan of your covers. Especially this one. This is so mellow..both Leonardo Goncalves and yours is sweet version to my ears.
I have listened to many and few but this still is the best version.
What an incredible, and heartfelt voice!
I have just listened to SEAL's cover of 'Both Sides Now'. He sang beautifully. But somehow I feel that anguish of a soul in purgatory. And then I come up with this rendering by VONCKEN. A true performance from heaven. Moving but appeasing. Thank you so much
Beautiful, thank you!!
What a beautiful rendition of a classic
Amazing rendition of a song that is suprisingly hard to sing. Beautiful , Bravo
Brilliant cover. Firstly, it is generally surprising to hear this song in a male performance. Secondly, you managed to do it not in pop music (in the bad sense of pop music). You did not flaunt, you were in the song.
I hope your singing will hear as many people as possible
