- Good Morning, Reptilians! This week, I was finally feeling up to setting up a couple of enclosures. First, we’re looking at the hognose’s new, upgraded tank. He’s not quite big enough for his 40g breeder yet, but he’s also almost too big for the tank he’s in, so I’m giving him a nice in between size. He’s really digging all the extra room so far! 🥰

This is great - he has SO much room :) My hognose also likes to climb - i've got cork flats resting up against the sides of the tan and he loves them :)

I found when it came to digging the top soil mixture didn’t hold burrows like aspen shavings (which I was using before) and my hoggie definitely become less interested in digging because of it. I did use different percentages though so you might have a different experience. 50%top soil, then I don’t remember the percentages but Eco earth, play sand and spaghnum moss
I can definitely see that about the burrows! It hasn't deterred him from digging, but I could see how constantly collapsing burrows could. 😅
I think when I get him in his final enclosure, I'm going to try something like Lugarti's. I used it with my first leopard gecko and it seemed to hold nicely.

Hey Elle. How big/old was your hoggie when you upgraded ? I made the mistake of upgrading to soon once and my girl went off food. Now she’s back on food (in her tiny tub) and 28grams. I was told 30grams was a good size but I’m nervous to change her up again!
I know this isn’t the video to ask this on, but I wasn’t sure how else to reach you Elle. I am looking for some advice… I will be going out of town in April for 6 days and I can’t take my beardie. I mentioned maybe hiring a sitter but husband is Leary about letting strangers in our home. Do you have any recommendations on resources I can look into? Or tips on how to make sure my dragon will be okay til I get back? Thanks so much for your time!
