I actually just bought these tiles from IKEA yesterday (inspired by your first patio video). I’m glad to see they’re holding up and excited to clean up my little bedroom balcony for the first time! 🥰
Are your rails more than 4 inches apart? My inspector said if they are greater, you can legally put up a screen because new codes say rails can’t be greater than 4 inches apart
Thank you for showing an update. I knew the IKEA tiles looked really nice, and I wanted to know how they lasted. You have convinced me to do my own balcony 💗
thanks - was looking for this as I am ready to buy some - but I wonder if it would last for years. Great Idea to fill the "space" between the door and the terrace with little stones. Looks nice. I have the problem that this part of my terrace is not "flat" so I need something to adjust to the "fall" of the terrace
Hi Eunice, new subbie here! Adding those pebbles around the borders to eliminate the need for cutting has to be the best idea I’ve heard in a long time! Truly a stylish DIY project! Thank u!
I just recently put the wood ones down on my small balcony. The wood ones have wider openings and you can easily see what’s between them. I just roll my Dyson out and vacuum them!😁
I bought the light grey tiles . I have had these tiles for almost 6 years and they have held up well. Although i liked the brown wood ones I felt they wouldn’t last given the winter in canada are bad. I noticed these tiles have definitely faded a bit over time . On hot summer days they heat up pretty quickly. A lot of dirt and grime builds up very quickly under these tiles.
I felt the same with the wooden ones! Great to know that they have held up well for 6 years. Thanks for sharing your experience with them and for watching 😊
I don't have a balcony and stumbled upon your video by accident. I watched it all the way to the end and I love how you made it so aesthetically pleasing. What a shame that you couldn't keep the privacy screen on the railings but I really like how you managed to put beautiful planters and greenery there instead. Your balcony looks so inviting and calm at night with the pretty lights you hung. Thank you for sharing! Bisous. 🥰🪴
Thank you for answering the questions and concerns I had regarding the deck tiles. I really like your balcony and will be purchasing them today. Thanks!
So excited to try this out. My balcony is a sad dump yard during the winter. This is definitely something I want to try for the spring/summer (I hope to cover them over the winter and heavy snow)
Not sure if the Balcony privacy is still an issue. Ikea also sell free standing privacy screens. Wood or metal. They wouldn't be "hanging" on the balcony but provide some privacy
Hi, thank you for your video. I was wondering if these tiles get uncomfortably hot if there are on direct sunlight? I mean to the phase you can't step on it without shoes.
What a beautiful balcony. Glad the tiles have held up & your plants 🪴are pretty. Thanks for the waterproofing recommendation-- I'd never heard of that spray before!
After watching this video I realized how great an idea it was to scotchgaurd your wooden items. I've looked online and can't seem to find that this can be used on wood though. How is it holding up?? Thank you!
Oops 🙊 I just assumed wood was okay because a lot of outdoor furniture has wood! They’re holding up fine though. I noticed when it rained the other day, water droplets forming above the planters and not getting absorbed into the wood which is what you’d want. I noticed spraying it slightly darkened the wood, I sprayed from a distance to evenly coat it. Hope that helps!
Thank you for this great update! I was wondering how is it with the outdoor carpet? We also have balcony without roofing and with the rain making everything wet and moist we get insects living under moist spaces - is that not the case for your carpet? thanks in advance!
Thanks for watching! We haven’t had any problems with insects underneath, maybe because there is some space between the floor and the tiles that allow air to get through? It also doesn’t rain heavily where we are so we get good enough time in between for the rug to fully dry. Hope that helps :)
Hey Anna, here is also same problem and i could not decide what to do to my balcony, plastic grass or wood-pvc tiles. A piece of bread under that tile would be enough to attract bugs around here. What did you decide on ? And if you did it how is it so far?
@@us3804 Hey! I actually bought the ikea pvc tiles that are being used in this video as well ( just a small batch for testing). I checked after about 3 months how it looks down under - whil there were still bugs it was way less than when I had an outdoor rug outside (the rug was alive haha). so if you dont mind a bit of bugs under, that could work. I would refrain from wood tho as that material seems to stay moist longer and moisture is what usually attracks those bugs (at least those Im dealing with) - hope you will be able to create a nice outdoor space!
I did save your original balcony makeover video.. it was quite inspiring! 😀 I think the deck tiles are so worth it though I have’t done any makeover yet.. hopefully soon
Loooks beautifulll 😍😍 I was always curious about the ikea tiles and how they hold up! I can hardly tell that those plants are faux, looks like a great option!
So happy that the IKEA tiles are holding up well and that you definitely think that they are worth it! I definitely loved how easy the installation was! Oh that is unfortunate that you all had to take down the privacy screen, I would love that! I'm loving all of the plants! Succulents are always a great option! I love how you swapped over the chairs! It looks like such a peaceful balcony I would love to go out there and just read a book!
I'm from Canada and it's almost impossible to get the runnen deck tiles! They're always sold out, especially the grass one so I'm super jealous! Your balcony looks amazing btw
I remember they were selling out so quickly here in the states too bc of their popularity! Hope you can get your hands on them soon ❤️Thanks so much (:
Dang those tiles last! Surprised the underside wasn’t more dirty tbh! Love the succulents there! Hahah having seen on IG the behind the scenes I was already curious what you filmed in that tundra 😂
Looks like the tiles have weathered the weather well. I actually have 2 balconies at my current place. I have always wanted to build one of them out to create a bit of a retreat space. Even had the HOA approve some trellis for privacy years ago. Don't know if it's still possible as I no longer see other units have that. I've also been contemplating some faux plants for the rooms that don't get much natural light. I think it'll make those spaces much more inviting.
That's so nice you have 2 balconies, should totally transform one into a peaceful retreat! The faux plants have definitely helped with making the balcony more inviting 😊Thanks for your support Mike!
I’m glad the tiles held up very well. The plants look good on the railings. And succulents are just great just about everywhere. :) water resistant spray is brilliant, will follow that on our balcony. Result Looks beautiful!!!
We have had no issues with the wind lifting them! The tiles are interlocked + furniture on top keeps them secure and it can get very windy where we are. Hope that helps! 😊

Did you line the boxes? Great idea.🤩
We did! With the privacy screen tarp we had to take down haha thank you 😊
Yea I remember u brought that down
Hi, what about the wind? Does it get underneath the tiles and lifts them?
We have had no issues with the wind lifting them! The tiles are interlocked + furniture on top keeps them secure and it can get very windy where we are. Hope that helps! 😊
Do you think mold could accumulate in a humid area like Florida ?
Hmm there’s holes and space that allows air to pass through so I’m not too sure - we live in an area with lots of fog and haven’t had mold issues!
Use Concrobium from The Home Depot.
The black chairs DO look better on the railing side
Why don't you make a framework inside your planter boxes and hang your privacy screens on them instead ? That way your HO can't have a problem with it and it'll help to block the wind.
Oooh yeah! I could line it with more planter boxes too so the privacy screen covers the entirety 🤔Thanks for the suggestion ❤️
