When I was 14 I went to the Red Sox opening day. A stupid policeman on a horse kept pushing the crowd into a brick wall. I was stuck between the wall and the people being pushed. I could hardly breathe. Thought i was going to die.I started crying and then a man picked me up and passed me to other people untili was safe. I always wanted to thank that man.
i remember that day well. you are welcome.
@@holymoly8718 i remember that day too. i am truly apologetic. i was the policeman
I too remember this day, for I was the horse.

Most of the people that die in these events are stuck in a non moving crowd (not a stampede) and will die standing up. If the people in the back are pushing into the crowd that can't move, your lungs can not overcome the pressure on your chest and you die from compressive asphyxia.
From Wikipedia:
"In fatal crowd disasters, compressive asphyxia from being crushed against the crowd causes all or nearly all deaths, rather than blunt trauma from trampling. This is what occurred at the Ibrox disaster in 1971, where 66 Rangers fans died; the 1979 The Who concert disaster where 11 died; the Luzhniki disaster in 1982, when 66 FC Spartak Moscow fans died; the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, where 96 Liverpool fans were crushed to death in an overcrowded terrace, 95 of the 96 from compressive asphyxia, 93 dying directly from it and 2 others from related complications; and the Astroworld Festival crowd crush in 2021, where 10 died."
One of the biggest disasters was not in this list: "The Phnom Penh stampede occurred on 22 November 2010 when 347 people were killed."
Get out of crowd if your are loosing your "personal space", before you get trapped.
That almost happened to me at a concert I told him to put me up and almost passed out as soon as the air hit me
Especially once you start panicking, it gets worse much faster!!! Must be a terrible way to die!!😢
Yes and it's so stupid of people to push others, for many reasons, this is one of them.
I got push into the crowd when I was small and my mother picked me up after, but it leaves my fear of crowd ever since.
This is why I avoid large cities and big crowd event area all the time. I always told my brother and friends to avoid big crowd since it's too noisy and too many people, you never know what will happens next.
I often joke "Big cities are the first targeted in war and big crowds are targeted by any organizations or individuals who want to make a point".
We all know about it from the Astroworld concert last year
This shows nothing.
Shows people dying
@@flammableelmo4966 I disagree. I see hundreds lined up like cattle.
Crushes can be slow, quiet, mundane, and as we saw here, massively lethal events.
If you find a video of the people getting crushed (it's brutal, dead people standing up), this puts that into context. This was the back of the line that was pushing and unknowingly killing the people up front.
Shows nothing? Even concentration camps have space to move around. This video shows how PACKED it was!
When people say they don't like large crowds, this is one more reason why
I remember attending the New Year's countdown in Shibuya a couple of years ago. It was so packed, and everyone was should to shoulder when suddenly there was a huge force from the back that pushed us. I couldn't breathe and thought I was going to faint. I never wanted to be in any crowded place since then. Just watching this video suffocates me.
Do your brain fog somehow ? Scary
@@shannonlim6204 Perhaps, because I honestly can no longer remember anything else except that I was praying and trying to tip toe to get some air. Being stuck in a crowd with no way out and no room for breathing is really scary.
How do you see something like that and decide to go in anyway?
I was taught at an early age to never push my way into a crowd, too bad others were not told the same or think it doesn't pertain to them.
I think culture has a lot to do with it. And by that, I mean that big crowds and people being shoulder-to-shoulder with each other are a lot more common in Korea than many other places. So I would imagine that the density of people required to concern someone used to living in a densely populated city is a lot higher, which led to something like this
😂
Cavemen never had this problem...
They’re also young kids who are out to have a fun night and prob don’t consider how very dangerous this situation is.
Why in the world would u put yourself into that crowd????
You are in a crowd like that before you know it. In NYC the one year at Christmas, in front of Rockefeller center, people kept stopping to see a light show on the building at Saks there were buildings and crowds to the right, a fence to the left, us in the middle, and people who saw the crowd pushing from both ends.
The trouble is the people on outside who keep pushing.

High and drunk
that's the alley to the street where there are bars and clubs
Crushes happen every now and then when you have huge crowds of people that get funneled into a chokepoint with SOLID unmovable walls/barriers. I do not know why we cannot learn from the past. Crushes on this scale have already happened in the past and lessons were learned at the time but seem to not travel very far or are quickly forgotten.
It's like watching people run to a line and trying to convince others to not start running
I mean, we have learned from these. A lot. Unfortunately, they're caused by a series of unfortunate events that lead to tragedy, and many of the factors that cause them are, by themselves, innocuous. As with almost all of these events, the people causing the most problems (the ones entering the crowd and compressing those in the crush zone) are too far away from the deadly area to realize there is a problem. And its too loud and chaotic to pass information back to them in a quick enough manner to stop the crush before it becomes deadly.
This event seems like it was a hard one to manage. Tens of thousands showed up because of the no mask policy, however I imagine they expected way less. No RSVP system when it's a public event. I imagine entrance fee's were limited. People showed up in groups. Vendors and entertainment full display as you walk around. Maybe the solution is you have MORE mandate on public events, limiting number of attendees. or Charge
We are overpopulated and my comments keep getting deleted when I say this!
I’m in my twenties just like the victims and I didn’t know disasters like this were possible until this one happened so they probably didn’t know :(
All because they heard a celebrity was at a nearby club? So sad. I will never understand youngsters' obsession with celebrities...
I don’t understand it either. I’m 25
No, it’s because this was the only exit/entry point from the train station to the streets.
Praying for God's peace and mercy upon this tragedy.
One of the worst crowd crushes was the fire at the Station in Rhode Island, the video is horrifying
Surprised no one mentioned this until now. I thought the exact same thing when I saw the video footage of the pileup here. Something viewers don't realize that you can easily see from The Station fire footage is how fast these things happen. The Station fire engulfed the entire nightclub in flames within literally 3 minutes. If people don't observe, react and escape within the first minute, they are basically doomed.
@@GengoSenmon and there was an emergency exit in the back but people panic and head for the way they came in.
I was crushed at a concert in the 80s my ribs bloody and bruised I was almost a goner until security saved me I was in so much pain 😭 those poor people had no chance just wayyy too many bodies with nowhere to go because there was no crowd control. That area will be haunted.
it's a sloping alley- i bet it's hard for other people to control their movements once one or two people started stumbling at the front
Horrible way to die. Reminds of that soccer stadium human crush in England
One year (I think 2005?) I attended West Hollywood Halloween parade and it got super crowded at one point. I was 16 and with my mom, I easily became claustrophobic and started to panic and scream. My mom told me to look up to the sky and it helped but I remember almost fainting there were so many people pushing and shoving and this crowd is twice, maybe three times as crowded as the one I was in, it was not a good feeling at all. I cannot imagine.

Why were all those people in that one spot??
People claiming different reasons of crowd crush:
Someone says because of a celebrity who visited there. Someone says because of overdose food or drink.
But I don't think these are main reasons. I don't do drinking, I am not a fan of any korean celebrity, I even don't know any single korean celebrity even after been here for 3 years. But still I was also stuck in the main narrow street for 20 minutes where most number of death reported. I was close to Hamilton Hotel wall and realized that I would be died.
The actual and first reason was that young boys, foreign guys, and some other naughty korean boys realized that people are stuck in the Hamilton alley so they tried to join the crowd and wanted to entertain more by pushing girls. Just before joining the crowd even I saw numbers of American guys running to join the crowd to get more entertainment pushing and pulling people. The people who were at side/corner of the crowd, they didn't realize the pain of people who were almost unconscious in the suffocating environment of the crowd.
Second reason: the victims were completely helpless and disappointed from their life😥 they were not asking for help, so how people outside the crowd could know their pain?
Third reason: people who escaped their life from crowd including me, didn't inform police to take initiate step to save lives 😓😰
Fourth reason: majority of people were drunk so their mind was not working properly therefore they couldn't struggle enough to save their life.
thought so, something about this incident didn't click in my mind until i read your comment

That young American nursing student from KY, Anne Gieske, who was killed, was GORGEOUS!! She celebrated her 20th birthday on Friday!
This is not the first time Korea has had shoulder to shoulder crowds. 2002 worldcup, protest marches, and city hall plaza civilian gatherings are super crowded affairs. This was different on a night and location with mischievous intents and undiscerning excitement. Korean Government never had an issue with disorderly crowds crushing each other. Their subways at peak hours are crushing but nobody dies from it. This is mob interest. People looking for celebs and their idols and fueling worse crowd dynamics in a narrow alleys.
Except this is not a celebrity citing. This is an alley that is usually packed because of lined up clubs and restaurants. That is the spot that young people go to to celebrate halloween annually.
@@mariazippy233 and it's also the alleyway that leads to the subway

if God that you love so much is omnipotent and omniscient (all-knowing and all-powerful), why did He let such a horrible accident, or any other catastrophe throughout human history, happen?
@@buddy94445
Why does *God* allow catastrophes? Only *God* knows. Every catastrophe has a reason and or purpose. Example: *God* saw that human wickedness became so extensive that judgment was required, resulting in Noah’s Flood (Genesis 6-8).
On the other hand, Job was an upright man and in spite of that *God* allowed a disaster in his life. In one day Job’s ten children were killed. He also loss his seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and his servants. On top of that Job then gets sick with painful sores all over his body.
How we respond in life when disaster, catastrophe, tragedy, sickness, or anything of that nature hits our lives says a lot about who we are and if we have a relationship with *Jesus Christ.*
Job a blameless man who feared *God* responded like we all should. He said "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked shall I return there. The *LORD* gave, and the *LORD* has taken away; Blessed be the name of the *LORD,”* Job 1:21.
Job’s wife reaction to what had happened to them was totally the opposite. She became angry and furious. She said to Job, "Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse *God* and die!,” Job 2:10.
Read the book of Job, in the end *God* doubled everything Job had lost.
Proverbs 2:22
[22]But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
Yes, that’s EXACTLY what is happening. Did you hear about the 133 pple who died in India when a bridge collapsed!
