My experience was listening to Parabola for years on the radio without actually hearing Parabol until I actually listened to the album. Basically I thought 'this just got twice as better!'

The closest I have ever been to God was at Tool concert last year at Aftershock right up front and center thinking it might be my last concert ever because I was just diagnosed with stage 3/4 leukemia a month before and they waited to start treatment so I could go to this concert. Standing up there a little stoned surrounded by strangers that were friends and they played this song. I sobbed like you’d see someone do in church, it was such a spiritual experience. If I would have died that night and would have died happy. I did get to see them again their last concert in Portland. All is well with my soul.

I've always found Maynard's vocals a fourth instrument.
They are.
And he treats it as such. He stands in the background when they perform live, and he forces you to hear him rather watch him as a frontman.
Vocal performances are a musical instrument.

I had my pelvis crushed about 5 yrs ago. Unimaginable pain. These songs helped me so much, reminding me that God is in this broken meat suit with me, with my own soul, and that the pain I was currently going through would end. Saved my life, man.
I had a similar experience in 2001. The album came out 2 weeks after I got out of the hospital from a lung surgery that resulted the removal of 10% of my left lung. I was in so much pain mentally and physically...I got a copy of this CD and these songs literally saved me from depression and gave me the strength to recover from the surgery!
I am glad that this music has a similar place for someone else!
I think a lot of Maynard’s inspiration came from watching his mom struggle.

"That’s Tool, man." Couldn't agree more. It's their crowning achievement, especially for Maynard. Watching you guys react reminded me of listening to this back in 2001 and 2002. It feels like my gut is churning.

Disposition has probably the most beautiful bass line I've ever heard and reflection's drumming is mesmerizing

This is a TRIP to see live! The entire crowd slowly swaying to Parabol looks very cultish then rocking out to Parabola looks awesome.
On their last tour they had that big projector curtain that opened up as parabola ended to reveal the whole band unobstructed. Their live show is the best.

Don't be embarrassed about almost crying. This song always gets me emotional. Live shows and the tears flow, it's very cathartic. Like a cleansing.
It's always so freaking awesome to see when people discover the greatness that is Tool. I've been listening since the beginning and their music has been a huge influence in my life and deeply woven and connected to so many experiences. It is the soundtrack of my life.
After these reactions are done, you guys should definitely buy the physical CDs and listen without interruptions.

This band has raised generations of better humans. I’m convinced of that. Since I was 12 in 1992 I haven’t stopped and now my kids have joined the army. It’s a beautiful thing and their music endures.

The Holy Gift is a rearrangement of Lateralus. Since the Fibonacci sequence was so important to the writing of the album, someone figured to try and rearrange the track numbers to the sequence, and found that there's a tiny half second at the beginning and ending of each song that blends seamlessly into the next in a way that the original Lateralus track listing doesn't. And in fact, the nickname the fans have given it, The Holy Gift, is taken from Parabola.
Tool members has said there is no holy gift and track listing is as intended, not to be rearranged or it would’ve been already and fans just over thinking.
Thank you guys for seeing, hearing and feeling all the is Tool... and giving them the respect they deserve. And I’m saying that in such a none stereotypical Tool fan way...
their music is what is mean to be human... it’s psychology... they have a song for every human experience. They have been trying to wake us up for so many years. All the answers we need to figure out how to be and heal are covered within the music of Tool... it’s the textbook to life

The trinity is definitely on Lateralus. Y’all need to put that album on, top to bottom once you’re allowed to freely listen to all songs on the album. Put on the headphones and kick back for 80 minutes. It’s been a great album to trip to for me.
Use to do this at least once a day my entire senior year of highschool. It was like meditation.
@@Andrew46_2 I worked a delivery job in high school and could listen to it all the way through each night. I basically just did the same for Fear Innoculum - spent a little over a year hooked on it daily. Now it’s every other day.

My friend worked at a movie theater when this album came out. We went up there after close and cranked this up and sat in the middle of the empty theater and I was blown away. Imagine experiencing this for the first time at 110 decibels.

Ive done more psychedelics and drugs than most will ever see, and after having a family, music means something totally different on a level that no drug can touch. having said all that, i have lost a daughter to chromosomal disorder, she was 5 months old....we are now expecting our fifth child. life is a parabola, ups and downs... have a family, make kids, be a good person, teach, learn, love....i will see her again, we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion.

Disposition-reflection-triad is gonna be amazing. That's probably their best work imo
My two cents: to add to Hollywood's interpretation, a parabola on a graph is a shape that will rise, then fall. If we make zero the start and ending value of it, it essentially maps out one's life. From birth to death. However, the parabola extends infinitely to either direction beyond zero. The song is a message to cherish the life you have, but perhaps in relation to the theme of Lateralus there is some kind of spiritual connective tissue that holds us together that transcends reality, consciousness, and life. We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion
I've never tried DMT, but I have eaten 7g of mushroom, and nothing I've found describes it better than these songs and Lateralis. It was a holy experience.
