I heard "Go All the Way" on oldies stations many times growing up, but didn't understand what it meant until I was an adult, and I've loved it ever since. Everything about it is what a 70's power pop record should be. I forgot he wrote "Almost Paradise", too. RIP Eric.

As great as Eric was, I think it is still only right that I point out that Dean Pitchford wrote the lyrics to Ann Wilson and Mike Reno's "Almost Paradise." The great Eric Carmen wrote the music. RIP Eric.

Yes it did, it was such an emotional tear jerker of a song. Frankly I 4got CD covered it. Her version didn't quite touch me like his did. His version touched my soul just like Almost Paradise. The kinda songs that tugs at ur ❤, they simply just "get to you".
His version is perfect. Celine’s version was bombastic and bloated.

Clive Davis made a special trip to Cleveland in the early 70's to listen to Eric in his apartment play a few songs. The next day he was signed to Arista.

The story is true. After leaving the Raspberries in '74, he couldn't get arrested. Clive Davis, who had just taken control of Bell Records and would change the name to Arista, picked three newer artists to lead the charge of his new label. Barry Manilow, Melissa Manchester and Eric Carmen would have much success on the label.
A great loss. I'm glad he's not forgotten in death.

The Raspberries’ 4 albums from the 70s are fantastic. A blend between the Beatles, The Beach Boys and the Who. They had a bunch of unforgettable hits, and there are also tons of hidden gems on their albums as well, especially on their “Starting Over” record, which is rock and roll at its finest. Even John Lennon himself was a fan! RIP Eric!
I love Eric Carmen l live here in Cleveland l always hoped that l would run into him. But l never did. He was so talented and he will be so missed . I loved his music and his voice. For the young here: the song All By Myself was a radio hit when he sang it. This makes it sound like he didn’t get radio play for it and that then it did when Celine Dione sang it. I loved when it would come on the radio back in the 70’s. Also listen to another lesser hit from the 80’s called Lose Control. Kind of long song:
That's the absolute truth. Shows like GMA and the like have a way of telling things to give glory/credit to the pop stars of 2day instead of giving the full history behind the song/artist. That song was a classic in it's own right B4 CELINE.

All of you here just go and find his original version and listen to the whole thing. The only bad thing is the quality of the recording will sound worse because they were using the technology they had at the time.

Carmen wrote a ton of great songs; there were his own hits and ones for several others. The first two, "All By Myself" and "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again" are classics. And never forget "Go All the Way", "Let's Pretend" and "I Wanna Be With You", which he wrote with the Raspberries. Peace for Cleveland's finest. "And love, so distant and obscure, remains the cure..."

The first 45 single I ever bought as a kid was "I Wanna Be With You" - Raspberries. Been listening to Eric Carmen ever since - my fondest teenage memories include coming home with the Eric Carmen 1975 solo album (with the incredible gold and black cover), then my delight when I first played the Boats Against the Current disc on my turntable. Those records are still on my regular iTUNES play list and I've bene playing then over and over - with smiles and a few tears too. God Bless and RIP Eric

One song you missed talking about was never going to fall in love again. On one of my trips to New York City I went to a conversation bar. After having walked 40 blocks to get there I walked in and nobody was talking. I then ordered a drink and went to the bathroom when I came back and sat down still nobody was talking which I thought was really weird. There was a jukebox and then Eric's song came on and everybody in the bar starts singing to the song that was the weirdest thing I've ever encountered no talking just singing very odd but it was an experience. I will never forget it.I was and still am a huge fan of Eric and his music 🎵🎶 I am so sad to hear about his passing😢 but his music will live on forever❤🎉😊

So sad to hear about his death. Eric Carmen's music was a big part of my adolescence and early adulthood. It seemed like every summer the radio stations where I lived would play "Go All the Way" to the point that I still associate it with watching the "cool kids" at the public pool. I used to drive to my HS internship to "All By Myself," singing along in the car.

A 45 is Revolutions per minute . Records were before CDs . 78rpm , 45 rpm , 33 and a third , and 16 rpm .
