@@cthulholmhastur5317 Excuse me.. I posted that comment to the wrong video. This most definitely is a live performance. If you search there is a karaoke version of this song. But it sounds so dead on perfect I was wondering if it came from a karaoke library where they duplicate popular songs with real musicians, or it the vocals were simply eliminated.. Take a listen to how good this is -->ua-cam.com/video/nJHb5UKT5eM/v-deo.html Now this one here is the actual recording with Eric's vocals slightly eliminated.. It's not perfect because you can still hear his voice bleed thru ---> ua-cam.com/video/7duoUl0DtAE/v-deo.html
The song is played in the same key as it was recorded and vocals are spot on. Groups that can't do that anymore should hang it up. I am SO glad I ran across this video. Excellent! 🤩
I agree. It's very difficult to exactly duplicate the studio recording, especially with instrument effects, acoustics, and so forth. Good job, and the vocals have the same tenor and tone as the original recording.
I clicked for the same reason. Was curious. They still got it. A rare thing for sure. A lot of acts are not even a year out of the gate before they start adjusting the key. They get away with it for a while, but I agree, hang it up before it gets embarrassing. They had their moment in the sun!
This is just...one of those songs that hits you with a rush of emotion. Guitar sound, vocals.. dynamics high and low... Pure passion. And to those who think this is a karaoke track... Believe this. There ARE people out there who can sing and play this well.
What an absolutely class performance, bloody brilliant, even better live, not may artists can do that let alone decades later! ❤❤🎉 Oh no I’ve just heard that Eric passed away yesterday, RIP our brilliant and wonderful performer !

They sound closer to the record 50 years later LIVE than they did on live performances I have seen 50 years ago. Amazing!! Eric Carmen was right when he said: "The Raspberries are a better band now then they were then."
I had just graduated 8th grade and was starting to make the switch from AM radio to FM heading into high school. Of course all the family cars only had AM radios, so this and other AM hits were heard on car rides. This song was on jukeboxes pretty much everywhere. Dropped a dime in to hear it more than a few times.
I was 16 in 1972,The Raspberries were "The New Beatles"(as if anyone could be) but were a damn good band. I didn't get an FM radio till 1974,so all of my musical memories prior to that were on AM radio(WLS and WCFL in Chicago).

So glad that his music has been part of my life. Heaven got a good one...RIP.
Thank you for the beautiful music Eric. Rest in peace.😢🙏🌈💞💞💞
R.I.P Eric Carmen, You Will Never Be Forgotten.
The only way I will forget everything about my past especially all the loves in my life and music is when I die!
OMG I just watched this video last night and now I heard he has just passed away... I'm shattered.. RIP great man
How are these guys not in the hall of Fame wtf?
especially since they are from the Cleveland area...
I say the same thing about The Carpenter's all the time.
A little piece of me just died today you will always be remembered RIP buddy😢
Eric still sounds awesome after a come back, its just sad he passed away this year Mar 2024 RIP Eric 😢
RIP Eric Carmen. Thank you for the great music catalog that transcends generations. You were one in a million 😢
The man had incredible range. From the rocker Go All The Way to the ballads All By Myself and Never Gonna Fall In Love Again, he was an immense talent. RIP Eric.
Im 65, Wow this band and all their hits take me back to junior high school when these songs first aired. I fell in love with a girl in my class over this song.
Listening on Jan 12, 2024. Still one of the best songs ever!
Agreed 👍 👍 👍
Absolutely!!! What a voice!
One of the best songs EVER????? LMAO.
he just passed away, heartbroken
Eric Carmen just passed away over the weekend, in his sleep, today's date, March 11th 2024
Everything thing is perfect about this performance. This was an anthem for kids of all ages in 1972. We are still THOSE kids.
Yes I am right there with you.
Perfectly written. I am that kid forever. Timeless music!
‘Perfect comment -for a very interesting time in Music-history 🔱🇺🇸🎭🎶🎠#blessings
I'm with you.
Well said and right ON!
THAT IS KILLER! so good so many years later - the true test of greatness!
Actually had tears after the first 30 second. It hit me with a rush of emotion. Being a retired rnusician and also knowing this song very well I was blown away by their rendition 50 years later They have not lost one step in performance.. 👏👏
This was recorded in 2007, so 35 years.
Still sounds fantastic
Excuse me, but isn't this a karaoke track? Is this the actual original recording just with Eric's vocal muted?
@@John_Michael2000 NO. IT IS NOT. LIVE PERFORMANCE ALL THE WAY. Lol no pun intended hehehe.
Take a listen to how good this is -->ua-cam.com/video/nJHb5UKT5eM/v-deo.html
Now this one here is the actual recording with Eric's vocals slightly eliminated.. It's not perfect because you can still hear his voice bleed thru ---> ua-cam.com/video/7duoUl0DtAE/v-deo.html
RIP Eric Carmen, thanking you for the music you have shared with us all!🙏❤️
The song is played in the same key as it was recorded and vocals are spot on. Groups that can't do that anymore should hang it up. I am SO glad I ran across this video. Excellent! 🤩
Absolutely!!! Just like the recording, nothing better than that ~~ love it!!!
So people who don't sound exactly like they did as kids should quit...lol
@@kerryloud4703 You're dadgum right, sonny! lol
Their voices and music are so close to 50 years ago when this song hit the charts. They're all so impressive!
I believe they sound even better! What a great band!!!
Super cool song!
Crank it up.
nooo... It "could not" have need 50 years ago. ;) geez...
it was 30 something years when they did this though
That's what I said till I did the math that rip van winkle story is true.
Oh no I’ve just heard that Eric passed away yesterday, RIP our brilliant and wonderful performer !
I'm a lifelong Clevelander. Eric Carmen is Cleveland (grew up in the suburb of Lyndhurst) proud and never forgot where he came from! Pride of Brush High School!!! Go Archs!
WTF just happened. I was completely blown away like I haven't been for years. I didn't expect Eric Carmen to sound 30 years younger than his age. Older rock bands just can't pull off what Eric just did. I got chills listening. And no it's not in a lower key. Simply amazing
I'm inspired by this performance. Can't wait to share with my older rock buddies. Eric Carmen -Amazing... Thanks!
Eric Carmen was fantastic in this performance. I would have loved to see it. He is a very talented singer; music keeps you young.
Eric Carmen is the Man! I still have the 45 of this..he sounds the same.
WTF..yes..back seat..foggy windows..begging..come on. come on baby..such great memories..
@@julieeadie3105 , mostly, I remember feeling guilty about making out. I never went “all the way,” but I certainly felt guilty about all the petting, etc.
I did go on to a bad marriage but two wonderful sons, though!
R.I.P. , Eric Carmen.
Amy, his wife, said he passed in his sleep, on March 9 or 10, 2024, in Gates Mills, Ohio.
He was 74.
Cleveland's favorite son stayed in the neighborhood, nice.
They sound closer to the record 50 years later LIVE than they did on live performances I have seen 50 years ago. Amazing!! Eric Carmen was right when he said: "The Raspberries are a better band now then they were then."
I was 10 in 1972. This was AM radio at its best. I loved the 70's. This is a great live performance.
Same here!
When this came on I got the biggest adrenaline rush!
@@PC4USE1 dude graduated in 73 from highland ind seen cat stevens in chicago 72 the grateful dead same year I've never been the same lol
I was 9! Raspberries and The Sweet were my faves.
Wow. Just saw Eric passed away and went straight to this video. Dam I started crying 😅 god bless you power pop legend
DAAAAAAM........
Watch Wally Bryson still slaying it on a double neck guitar - Outstanding!!!
And Eric still sounds (& looks) Fabulous!
THANX Eric, Wally, Dave & Jim for getting together & making a "night to remember" !!!
We loved you then & still do❤
What a legend. Sounded the same after so many years. RIP Eric. Thanks for the music and memories.
50 freakin years and they still sound like they did way back then....and live yet! Awesome!
GREAT SONG
This was recorded in 2007, so it had been 35 years.
Oh yeah❤
Yesssss 😁❤️
😊
What a beautiful song. Such passion. RIP Eric. You will be missed.
R.I.P. Eric. This song is very special to me. Summer of 72, I was 17, she was 16. We did, it was beautiful and even though we didn't end up together, after all this time, I still think about her.
One of my favorite songs ever,my heart is breaking over his passing. Saw him in 1980 at the Stone Balloon in Newark Delaware. Always one of my favorite songs. RIP Eric and thank you for great music and memories
Eric Carmen’s voice is awesome . Beautiful song .Thank for sharing
Rest in peace, Eric. Thanks for the music.
I grew up in the 70s watching him in local clubs. RIP Gone to young.
Easily one of the best rock pop songs ever to hit the radio ever. Sounds great here. Cheers.
Vocals surprisingly tight 😃
Agreed
I think this was 2005.
A great radio song I remember on our National AM transistor radio in the kitchen as I was getting ready for school. I was 8 or 9 at the time.
@@Phil1stalk Yeah but the song was a 1970s Raspberries song.
Not too hard to understand, surely??
I dunno, perhaps you're trying to point out through 'apparent' inconsistency that I'm a liar, which would actually make you a garden variety tool.
As everyone has already said, this performance is just outstanding. I’m 63 and it took me back to 1972 but I’ve just come to learn recently is that Eric wrote all his top 40 hits!! so he sings beautifully. He writes his own songs. He plays the piano and guitar beautifully. And he hasn’t broken stride in 50yrs!
Girl I couldn't have said it better. Heard it as a young girl..63 as well. Still love it!!!❤
61 here and i love this song!
63 here too. I loved this song then, and this is an amazing version. They still sound great.
65 here and this song right in the middle of my girl chasing years
And he's smoking hot
God bless Eric Carmen for all the the wonderful music he shared with us for 50 years
The 70s had some of the best music ever, and this song epitomizes that.
Talented, handsome man with a beautiful head of hair.
Why do so many good looking men age like fine wine? Is there a scientific reason?😊
RIP to Mr. Carmen✝️🌹
It's a Cleveland thing, some of the finest looking men were born there. 😉💖
Yes he had a facelift
He's obviously had a facelift.
@@farrington7971 At LEAST one.
He was a hottie for sure❤❤❤
Holy hell, that was fantastic! Did not expect it to sound like that. Love, love this song. RIP EC 😢
Some of the most perfect power-pop ever made. R.I.P.
Carmen is such an excellent, well-rounded musician and singer. The song is timeless. It caught my ear as a boy and has never really left.
The Best Rock and Roll song ever written! I remember when it came out. I was in the 7th grade. Loved it then. I'm 62 now, and love it even MORE!
Haha greatest song ever??? Come on people it's a really good pop song along with the 372,876 really good pop hits ever released, and it's not in the same key as the original as someone said
@@reneguzman2853 I have perfect pitch. IT IS in the same key as the original. (A major).
@@reneguzman2853 Nope, that's the original key.
Same here Bill. 62 also. Best song ever and I so appreciate more now!
I was in the 7th grade too.. Love it then and now.
Thank you Eric for giving us the music and memories.
Since I learned of Eric's untimely death March 11th I've listened for the most part to nothing else but songs from Eric's solo career and The Raspberries. Still cannot comprehend he is gone. Heartbroken.
Eric Carmen has such a powerful voice that has not changed since his days with the Raspberries, or as a solo artist when he recorded "All By Myself". Love his guitar work as well. Thank you for posting this gem of a classic jam.
yes, he still sounds very good.
I agree with you. That double neck guitar is cool
This song is a classic, Eric is a legend in music for sure!
so true. brings memories of "Walk Away Renee" by The left Banke, or Incense and Peppermints.. or even modern pop heroes like day Belle & Sebastian who might not exist without these original troubadours. ua-cam.com/video/4de-RHHLCBA/v-deo.html
Well it's been 15 years since this performance. I'm certain things have changed ....
Man, after 50 years this is as solid as it gets. Guitar licks, vocals, harmonies. All are spot on.
Talent. I love this era of music.
I never saw sooo many people enjoying that song. That song was a hit back in 72. I was shocked when he passed away. Very talented and gifted man. Now he singing in heaven with the other rock stars, throwing free concerts in heaven ....RIP Eric Carmen.
Got the 45 in 1972. This is just as fresh in 2023!
Wow. Getting the band back together almost never sounds this good. I’m not a musician but I can recognize professionals who’ve “put the work in”. Love it. Thanks for sharing this.
I know! I was kinda expecting this to suck, but they sound awesome!
All these years, I've heard it a thousand times and it still sounds just like it did the first time I heard it in the summer of 1972 when I was 15!!! Rest in peace Eric, you were one of the Best!!!
I’m 67 now but for a few minutes I was back in HS at 16. Amazing video, it sounded just as it did during the days of cruising and FM radio. Fantastic job, God Bless guys, and thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Thank you Eric for all of the beautiful music. Rest in peace.
It's astonishing how he's kept his voice in shape for so many years. Eric's voice sounds no different than it did when I was 13! Great artist that gave me so much joy when I was young.
I bought a KTEL album in 72 or 73 with this song on it. I don't mourn the 80s but the 70s were a musical era never to be repeated
