  • Let's explore how and why we treat area as a vector. The direction of area vector is always perpendicular to it. For open surfaces, we have to arbitrarily choose between two perpendiculars, but for closed surfaces, we choose the outward direction as our standard. This helps us define the flux to be the dot product of electric field and the area.

      @@Mahesh_Shenoy he's a great guy to be influenced by. I can hear echos of his speech patterns in this person's vocabulary, like they must have watched hundreds of hours of Khan lectures. I can hear Sal's influence in 3Blue1Brown, as well.

    Please can you explain why in some textbooks, electric flux is Φ = ∫ E dA and in other textbooks electric flux is Ψ= Q, and in this video too? Which one is correct and which is wrong?

    If your area is a result of a vector cross-product, you could define the direction of the area as per the right-hand rule.
