A little trick I learned from a professional chef 👨🍳, rinse raw onions in cold water after you cut them. It removes some chemical in onions and makes them less harsh.
I think it is crazy that 87 people liked this, and no one commented (in over 6 months.) This trick is real. My mother did this all the time as a kid. I do it now whenever. It does something; I know it does.
I just love Ron that he honors God, by praying for his meal...you both are so precious and that you have faith in Jesus.
Thankyou!!
That’s, honestly, one of the reasons I continue to watch them on both channels! It such a breath of fresh air to see a young couple continue to honor God in their lives. Just beautiful!
Me too! This couple is such a wonderful example! Salt of the earth.
🙏So truly sweet🙏
Honoring God with their lives would be better if they didn't sleep together
Dear Lass, I am so sorry for your Mum. I hope she has found much happiness here in a America. She is very rich because she has a very beautiful , deep hearted daughter. She is truly blessed with a very capable and talented son in law. So she has much richness! God Bless you two youngsters! Ann
You two are so cute together.
Thanks Ron for the prayer.
That really does look delicious.
I am Italian heritage, and grew up eating potato, eggs and onions, we cooked a little different, we cooked the onions with the potatoes and added the eggs
Same. We would occasionally add sausage as well….
It was wonderful hearing the story of Justine's family. So good to see you both enjoying the food . I think the egg and potato meal looks delicious 😋 🥰🥰
You two are adorable and perfect for each other ❤️
I agree. Very cute couple.
Definitely couple goals!
I come from a family of eight children and we were raised on fried potatoes eggs made with bacon grease, also mama made a cucumber and onion salad marinated in vinegar, it was very economical back in the 60s and 70s, she was very creative when it came to feeding her family. This brings back memories for me, thank you
Oh my gosh, my mom made the cucumber and onion in vinegar too! I’ve never seen anyone else do that!
Cucumber and onions pickled with vinegar, was always a summertime staple salad as a child in the sixties... A must have with certain meals such as, ham and beans ,fried potatoes and cornbread... memories
Ate many suppers of fried potatoes, eggs and bacon. And the cucumber onion mix is still my favorite summertime dish.
I was born and raised in east Los Angeles ca. in the 70’s and we had the same meal! My mama would make a big skillet for all us kids…
My mother grew up with the onion cucumber and vinegar salad also! All her family and relatives loved it!
The cabin looks so cozy. I love these mealtime episodes.
thankyou so much!
I love looking through the cabin and seeing the bed with the quilt.
Justine Dear, you have such an interesting history and family. This does look very tasty, but simple too. Thank you... You can eat well because you are both so talented andcresourseful. Justine is certainly a unique young woman and has so many interesting skills. You are not typical young people and that's a compliment.
Minus the lemon juice, I've eaten this exact meal many times growing up and to this day! A very nice meal and fit for a king! This video as well as Justine's video of making it brought back so many memories of my mom making it growing up! Thank you for that!! Much love from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Canada. 🇨🇦
Same here. My family would mix up one or two ingredients just to experiment, but it was, and still is, a classic meal to this day.
You are so cute together! Nice bedroom too. Love the bedding. ❤️
Breakfast Is ANYTIME food. Growing up, my dad would sometimes cook or help cook breakfast for dinner.
Onion is a health food.
I simple adore watching you guys, thank you for sharing all those amazing family stories❤
I am so glad I found your channel! I am all about history and love the fact that you are not afraid to show your faith. Lovely couple 💖
Thank you so much!
My parents made eggs and potatoes like that all the time. Yumm♥️
I love fried potatoes with onions. When my grandma was growing up, she was poor and sometimes all she had to eat was a slice of onion on bread. It's probably why she always made us (brother and me) clean our plate before we could get up from the table.
This is my comfort food! I was single for many years and also a nurse who worked nights. After I slept during the day I would get up and cook up a potato, onion, and add scrambled egg in my electric skillet. If I had some smoked sausage on hand I might slice up a little of that. An easy peasy meal!
simple foods at a low cost can be some of the best meals, I'm a meat and potatoes kind of guy ,these simple meals are quick to make and one pot wonders. I like this two Chanels of your ,thanks🇨🇦
Hello from Ohio! I love your channel because it shows a true view of the American foundation. Keep up the great work at keeping history alive.
thankyou so much!
Hello from Ohio also! I so much love the channel!! I sometimes feel I was born in the wrong century because I'm so captivated by this era. You both capture the true essence of what it was like back then. You both are so knowledgeable about that time! I watch both channels. Sometimes, I see Frontier Patriot here and I have to watch it, but then I have to go to Early American to see how it was all made!! Lol I so love seeing the other half of the cabin, plus the new bedroom addition. The quilt is beautiful!
OH...Thank you for praying. ! Love and hugs! Tonda in Ohio
@@tondamalone3303 I truly understand. I wish time travel existed. I am south of columbus.
I had family down around Great Soutgern shopping center, friends in Obetz, etc. I grew up first in Upper Arlington, moved to Grandview Heights at age 19 where I graduated from moved to Galloway and married and had 4 sons. After their graduation, I moved from my home to Hilliard to care for my elderly parents until I moved to Upper Sandusky with my partner. We're now moving to Indian Lake in a couple weeks.
Greetings from central Texas🌟Thank you for sharing this delicious looking dish! Can’t wait to make it.I enjoy your videos. Looking forward to the next one. Bless you both🌞🦋❤️
I absolutely love that you pray!💓 and the more I know about you the more I love you💓
Jackpot! Ron loves it. You guys are great to watch. Like your new bedroom too.
"What better way to teach history than to live it?".....so right!! Love this show. Thank you.
Glad you enjoy it!
I love both of your channels! Thanks for sharing with us! 💙❤️
the lemon juice is acid and will cook out most of the rawness of onions. along with the dill it will change the texture(?) of the onions most onions have a Lot of Sulpher which is what upsets your stomach
I enjoy watching y'all cook like they did back in the old days !
Fried potatoes and onions was a main stay at my Grandma's. Another dish was potato / flour mix dumplings fired up with onions . Served with sour cream. Makes my mouth water !
sour cream makes everything better!
Thank you. That looks and sounds so good. Thanks too, far sharing about your families and where you come from, it really helps us to get to know you guys. We very much enjoy visiting with you all on your channels.
You guys are awesome. Thank you for doing what you do. Your channel is a joy to watch.
Thanks for watching!
Another delicious video! When I was a kid my Grandpa would make eggs with hotdogs and onions. I have made them but they never were as good as his
I make meatloaf too. I am Italian so I do a little of this and a little of that. my family says my meatloaf is excellent but it never tastes the same twice. i have been making it for over 25 years lol
Same here. I can't give a recipe for it when asked. It's never the same. It's whatever I'm in the mood for or whatever I have available. 😁
Me encantan verlos comer esa riquísima comida y apreciar lo bella que está la cabaña...la habitación quedó maravillosa ... gracias 🙏.
cozy as heck in that cabin. enjoy the fire and quiet times
we love it!
Truely interesting times we live in, that you can enjoy the wonders of the past and still come back to the present. I live in Wyoming so I appreciate the fact you know we exist!
This is a really nice recipe and I enjoyed hearing about your family heritage. I have a recipe for orange drop cookies that was my great grandmother’s recipe. Love family recipes. The view of your new bedroom just makes me smile. (I add Worcester sauce in my meatloaf and BBQ sauce over the top. But I’m a vegan now so I guess my meatloaf days are behind me. Ha)
I also add Worcestershire when I add meat
Lol I thought everyone used Worcestershire! Those orange drop cookies sound amazing! I’m going to google a recipe (at a more reasonable hour of course!) Thank you for the suggestion!
@@lisahughes8779 I’ll happily give you Great Grandma Foster’s recipe for Orange Drop Cookies: 1/2 stick butter, 1/2 cup sugar, cream these together and add 1 egg and zest of an orange. Separate bowl mix together 2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon each of baking powder and baking soda. Add small amounts of flour mixture to butter mixture alternating with 1/2 cup orange juice(add in small amounts). When completely mixed together, whip an egg white in separate bowl to stiff peaks and fold into cookie dough mixture. Drop from tablespoon onto lined cookie sheet(parchment paper or silpat). Bake 350 degree oven 8-10 minutes. These cookies are just barely sweet. You can top with powdered sugar icing and a bit more orange zest to make them sweeter. Enjoy!
@@sallycormier1383 thank you!! Will make❤️
Thank you so much Sally 💙
I think I commented on a different post that my mother was Israeli and so maybe I’ll be able to return the favor with a recipe of hers, although what Justine has shared is quite similar to one my mother used to make. But for the time being, I’m going to screenshot this recipe and try to get those ingredients so I can bake those delicious sounding cookies this weekend! So kind of you to type it all out for us. I hope you have a marvelous weekend my new friend, and hopefully I’ll run into you on a different video and be better prepared to give you (and all) a different recipe from the Middle East. May all be blessed!🇮🇱🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️
Looks delicious! Loved that you prayed before the meal.♥️
Your setting is beautiful with the new bedroom in the background. 😍
Glad you like it!
I thinks it's wonderful that you give thanks to the Lord for the food. God bless you both. Nth Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 ♥
Very nice bed room you've built and the bed is sooo sweet to the period,.love your coziness, and how you use your walls to store necessities that also are decorative...
Love both our channels! I have my mom and dad watching now, too : ) They're in their 80's and I'm in my 50's. It's just wonderful. I love that you pray together as a couple. So awesome. Keep the videos coming! Thank you.
I love rice, pudding with raisins, yellow rice, white rice, brown rice, fried rice,it goes well with so many things,as a side or in the main entree. I like a good meatloaf myself...yes need a good lean beef, but I wrap mine in bacon. My Mom sometimes added a green bell pepper, and oats if we were out of crackers, you need to add the egg to bind it,my husband made one one time and forgot the egg,it came out like Sloppy joe so we ate it on bread. There are just so many things we can cook without recipes, like soups and stews, meats and vegetable combinations, with a dish of beans, rice or corn, young folks today need to cook in pots on whatever heat source they can like a campfire or hearth so they know how to survive if needs be. That's why I love your channels, you are teaching.💞💞
We have a lot of Assyrians here in Northern California. I once ran into a large group at a local lake picnic ground who were dancing. The dances were very similar to some Israeli folk dances that my friends and I know so we joined in. LOTS of fun!! PS: Yes, Ron, Bacon makes everything better!
I make my meat loaf with oats too. I used to be a great cook but my culinary skills are kaput now. My wife's Asian and is totally into anything that goes with rice, rice and more rice. My food is generally southern American and French Creole. I would watch Justine and Ron all day! A great couple a great show.
Really enjoying the videos and hooked on the story lines! Love the cabin, you've done an amazing job taking the viewer back in time.
Thanks so much!
My grandmother use to fry potatoes and onions in butter. She called it a depression-friendly meal.
I love onions lemon juice and salt. I make this ' onion salad' everytime I eat fried catfish. It's a wonderful combo and I agree the lemon juice mellows the onion . Its almost as if it breaks it down a bit. I've Never tried it with dill but I will have to now . Love your channel ! Thanks for keeping our history alive .!
Fried catfish with fresh onion is amazing!
It is great to see that yall have a comfortable bed room the food has my tummy grumbling
The favorite things my mother made where 1. Meatloaf and 2.Kafta my mother learned some meals from when she married a man a while back from Cairo Egypt. He was Arabic even though they're no longer married she'll make that kind of food that ones my fav. Funny because she's Irish and my father is native American.
“What is it with moms and eating raw onions??” Lmao!!!!! 🤣
Until you mentioned it, I forgot about how much my mom loved raw onions. Thanks for reminding me.
I would buy your dads spoons for sure 🥰 I am going to make this meal. Looks yummy 😋 thank you for sharing some of your family history 😊
My grandma use to say that had taters and beans for lunch and beans and taters for supper to change it up!
Love that!
That's hysterical.
My mom's best meal is teriyaki turkey or chicken. she is 77. It was nice to hear more of Justine's and Ron's background.
There's something about a mom's cooking .I can never make my food taste like my moms ! This was a great video .T.F.S. !
Glad you enjoyed it
Very true
I make this for breakfast about once a week. So good.
First off, love how you prayed before eating. I prayed right along with you. Secondly, I’m going to try Ron’s meatloaf style. And third, where can we get some of the early American bowls, pitchers, and other kitchen tools that you use?
Omgosh, I love you and your Christian hearts so much!
I am going to try to watch Christian only channels.
My goal in life is to get past my sinful past and present and get closer to God. Thank you for all you do. May God bless you always. 🙏
My grandparents, born in the 1920’s, grew up on beans, fried potatoes and onion… cornbread too. I still love that. It’s a comfort food.
My mom was a young widow on limited income with the three of us. We had potatoes and eggs quite often! We don't use lemon juice, and we fry the potatoes with the onions. Now that I've seen this, I'll have to make it for supper tomorrow night!
My father’s family also made potatoes and eggs for breakfast, they were Dutch, my mother later added cheese to the dish, a favorite family dish
Growing up, my Mother would use left over baked potatoes, diced up with onions in it and eggs. She called it "ugly supper" and would throw a bit of meat in if we had it. This was in the 50's and 60's, Dad was in the military and money was tight.
I can't wait to do this dish,I've decided to put bacon with it ,and along with the onion I will do cabbage..
I live your chats so much xxxx
Really enjoyed this. My family is from Lebanon. Very similar ingredients in some of your recipes..
Ron you have great recipes also. Looking forward to your next video.
I love to make potatoes and eggs-I fry the potatoes then put the eggs in and scramble all together until eggs are done. Serve with plenty of ketchup 🥰❤️
I tool a lesson from Justine and Ron for last nice dinner. I took a huge potato, a very large vidalia onion and added garlic, bullion and French herbs. At the end I added cubed ham. OMG DELICIOUS!
Good stuff!
Bedroom looks amazing. Good work!
Glad you like it!
I just love you too the way you talk to each other and share the stories. I'm from a family of eight mom and dad was 10 and the best thing we love too is fried potatoes and onions went in the while cooking. And then a treat for my dad was at fried egg sandwich and coffee on toast. I miss those good old days you guys keep doing what you're doing I know I'm babbling on but I'm feeling overwhelmed because I really love your videos how hard you work
Thank you so much!
I really loved this and I'm going to sound so corny but I cast it to my tv, sit close to it and it feels like I'm on the other side of the table. I enjoy your company, your sense of humour and the fact that you love the things that really matter in this life, and at 66, I learn something every time I watch you both. Loved the bed video, never seen a rope bed before. Love Dad's wooden spoons, of course the cooking videos and Ron you know I loved the cookie press creation. Oh the clock, would love to hear all about that gorgeous clock sometime. I'm sorry for the novel, keep safe, have a great weekend and sleep tight. Love from the land down under.
I watch all my UA-cam channels on my smart tv. But I do cast videos from other apps as well that aren’t supported by Apple TV or Chromecast.
Hubby and I laugh that we get so excited to watch someone cook then eat! We really enjoy having dinner with you both. Your channels are developing so well and we look forward to all your videos! And I would LOVE a spoon!!!!!
yes eggs and potatoes go great together...I pan fried sliced potatoes in vegetable oil then poured eggs in the pan with them, if I have red onions on hand I add them...a little salt and ketchup, so so good!
I really like these videos. It's almost like we're sitting there with you. The food looks great and conversation is interesting. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
That meal looks very good and me and Jackie are always getting fresh country eggs and always keep plenty of potatoes and onions on hand those three food items make a good base for food! And rice!
Sassafrass was a traditional root beer flavoring.
And sassafras leaves are used in Cajun gumbo cooking !
Yes, my grandma used to make Sassafras tea for me. They grow wild here in West Virginia.
I sure would love to be sitting at the table with you and sharing cooking stories!
I love potatoes, eggs, and onions, some of my favorite foods! Thank you for sharing with all of us, you guys are great!
I love these conversations over your meals. You are doing a great job.
I make basmati rice, I wash and soak it for at least a half hour. I cook it with soy sauce or chicken stock and add several cardamom pods. It is one of my favorite things to eat. The cardamom pods really kick it up.
I love this channel! My husband and I are big Colonial Williamsburg and spent our honeymoon there 34 years ago. We have been there many times and our style is that. My kitchen is decorated with Tavern items!
Loved hearing your family's story. The food looked so good I made it tonight for dinner. The onion, dill and lemon was AMAZING.
My Grandma and mom made potatoes, onions, and scrambled eggs at least a couple times a week when I was growing up. I make it for my kids even now after they are grown and on their own. They absolutely love it! I cook the onions in with the potatoes for few minutes before adding the eggs (salt & pepper only). Yummy goodness!
My meatloaf secret is add a little yellow mustard, like you'd put on a hot dog when mixing. Trust me, it's really tasty. Simple too. 1 or 2 eggs, hamburg, mustard, ketchup, dash of worcestershire and breadcrumbs or oats. Bake loaf at 350 for 1 hour. Mustard adds interesting flavor. Edit...I forgot to add onions.
that's exactly how I make my meatloaf. I use saltines for the breadcrumbs though 😊
Just recently found your channels and I’m hooked! Thank you for providing such lovely, uplifting, and educational content. God bless!
Bacon yeah… I am going to make this, I never would have thought to put lemon juice on this. Thank you Justine.
That looks so yummy. Ron looks like he could have another 2 plates. I am going to make this.
Good people good food good times. Love this channel ❤. Thank you for existing ❤.
I am going to try this recipe! Thank you Justine for telling us about your mother, that is so interesting to me as I am interested in genealogy and history. How fascinating that you're descended from the ancient Assyrians!!!
This is a great video with a lot of interesting information and no awkward lapses in conversation and many good questions to each other that keeps the audience engaged. Very enjoyable. I learned about the Assyrians that which I never knew and it was great! I really like onions, potatoes and eggs and to have them put together like they were was delicious looking. Thanks for the recipe and kudos to a great channel that's bound to grow from the folks involved as much as it is the content.
I wonder if the root beer man's the same one who comes to the "Feast of the Hunter's Moon" in Lafayette, Indiana. It's also to die for!! There's always a long line for his root beer.
Hey Ron and Justine how can I get into living history? You guys have really inspired me. Especially when I found out that you are people of faith. I’ve always loved Early American history.
Great looking meal, thanks for sharing! I love potatoes and eggs, so it sounds like a winner to me!
This looks incredibly delicious! I want to try it this weekend. I love you guys. You two are precious and make the channels easy to watch :)
I am Jewish. My grandmother grew up in Jerusalem before the state of Israel. She used to make it too. We loved the smell! You reminded me how good it was!
That looks good! One thing I would do different is leave the skin on the potato.(that's where the vitamins are).
I'm really loving all your videos.
I would love to live that way.
I love the work you put into your videos. I'm a history buff so watching you enact our early American life is awesome. Please keep up the great work. I have ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War, some who were the first to Jamestown and even on the Mayflower. Roots.
Thanks Dear ,Nice video its wonderful listing to you.\,greetings rom the nederlands.
Root beer is created from the roots of a sassafras tree. Home made root beer is the best!! New subscriber here from NW Ontario Canada.
I’ve been enjoying both channels! But would love a cabin tour, land tour. 🙂
I cook rice with chicken broth for my dog. She loves it and it's great for her when she has allergy outbreaks.
Thank-you again.Another great video. You are both so knowledgeable. Xx
